Where to Find a Marvelous Mid-Week Lunch in Portland

"This Deaf-owned Lents spot is one of the very few Portland restaurants that actively accommodates Deaf diners, taking orders in American Sign Language; the team also uses speech-to-text software for hearing diners. Pah! is also a strong spot for a burger — not caught up in the super-thin smash burger trend, these are thick, juicy burgers, particularly the Champ, a barbecue-bacon cheeseburger. Those up for a challenge can start with the restaurant’s take on a blooming onion." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

This place is amazing! The food was so freaking good! I can't recommend this place enough. The staff are so sweet and I can't wait to come back here again. The grilled cheese was so buttery and the Muenster cheese was so melty and yummy.

Google
Food was just ok. Not seasoned at all with salt or pepper (burger, fries, or blooming onion) and they left the middle of the blooming onion on there which was hard and undercooked and it made pulling off the pieces nearly impossible so had to use a knife to cut it out myself. The rest was cooked fine. I would have much rather had the inedible part cut out/taken out like it is in the photos. Atmosphere was nice and the food was significantly better with added seasoning!

Google
Vegan burger was delicious! I had the beyond patty w/ sauce (no vegan cheese) and it was so good. I also enjoyed having the vegan special sauce on the side for the fries

Google
Fries were terrible. Stale and chewy. Burgers were ok but pretty basic. Way overpriced for what it was.

Google
Another great food place inside the Zed. Been wanting to try their burgers. Fresh, made to order, and delicious. Had the bacon bbq burger, w/Swiss cheese instead of meunster, not a fan. Fries were great as well. Burger was messy, just the way they should be. It was a burger kind of night again, had same thing, flavorful, delicious, dribbled down my arm, messy, worth it, and oh so yummy. Photo does no justice, but slopped up my phone after taking a bite, then remembering to take a picture... LMAO 🤣

Google
Fish and burger both kinda perfect. Generous portions neither could finish. Staff- Sometimes it’s nice when people are simply not obnoxious or off putting. Place is cool because we also got a beer and a soup from different venders. Have variety of seating from sofa to quiet table. Wish I lived closer.

Google
Highly recommend checking out Pah! We had the BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger (Champ) and Vegan Cheeseburger (Kissfist). Sauces were amazing and the fries were extra crispy. Fresh squeezed lemonade and amazing owners. If you are Deaf, sign, or are interested in ASL and love great pub food, check them out.

Google
The food here is fantastic! They had grilled chicken tacos as a specialty and they were so good, I wanted more! Eating here supports a very good cause and we enjoyed our experience very much.

Yelp
The food is amazing. My wife and I came here and was pleasantly surprised at what this establishment had to offer. We came here on a Friday and they had live music. They even have board games for the kiddos. We ordered the bacon cheese fries and the bacon cheeseburger. The gal who took our order was deaf and was able to take our order and had no problems whatsoever. Then we noticed that the cooks were also deaf. This is awesome we'll definitely comeback and support this business

Yelp
Pah! Was delicious. My husband and I had the vegan sliders, vegan cheeseburger and fries. Everything was flavorful, the fries perfectly seasoned and crispy. The Zed is better than I'd hoped for. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Phenomenal fish and chips. One of the best I've had in my life & trust me I've had my fair share. From the coast to Seattle ports to the UK in wimbeldon. Pah! Is a deaf own restaurant with superb service, extremely friendly. Wasn't sure what to order, so I went with their specials and now I want to try the rest of the menu! You bite into the fish and you get this delightful crunch as the fish literally just melts in your mouth like butter. It's incredibly moist and you can see it even in my photo. It's accompanied by a tartar sauce and their special sauce which resembles a spicy aioli. Hands down would recommend, I think I just found a new guilty pleasure.

Yelp
We were looking for someplace to eat and Pah! fit the bill. It was located inside, in a food court in the Lents neighborhood. We both ordered the Fish & Chips and split a salad, which was a perfect size salad for both of us. The Fish & Chips were excellent & huge. I'm talking about between 5" - 7" long. There were of course, no tartar sauce and ketchup for our fries, but it did came with Thousand Island for our fish/fries. We have to ask for it. There's a single any gender restroom, across from Pah! Which was very convenient, because we've been working all day, and we couldn't be bother to go further, looking for one. It was long day, having lunch/dinner in the middle of the afternoon. I was only able to eat one of my fish, since it was equivalent to 2-3 size portions if they were bought at Burgerville.

Yelp
We made a point to check Pah! out during our brief way through Portland on a road trip and I'm so glad we did. Very happy to see a Deaf-owned business thriving. The space is accesible to everyone, whether you know ASL or not as they have things written out you can point to for help with ordering. Or brush up on your finger spelling before going and practice your ASL when ordering! They're happy to show you signs if there's something you don't know and you're interested to learn. It's also great how the menu incorporates ASL "slang" for names of their sandwiches. The burgers and fries were great. My wife got meat and I got a beyond burger, and I'm so glad they had vegan options. It'd be great if they added a vegan cheese! Pah! is in the Zed so we grabbed a beer from the brewery and it was a perfect lunch.

Yelp
Food was great!!! We will be back. The bacon burger was great. Overall nice local area for all. Pet friendly

Yelp
To the one guy that held down the fort on September 25th, 2023, thank you so much!! You deserved all of those tips man! We appreciate you so much. You deserve a loooooong vacation! We love you! The food was delicious, and you really pulled through!

Yelp
Really good chicken and fries. Simple comforting flavors and huge portions to get the cravings satisfied while quaffing beers. Also really nice staff. Big thumbs up

Yelp
Finally I made it to Pah!! Had the "Do Do" a flavorful take on the BLT Be sure to check out Pah! Delicious!

Yelp
Delicious burgers! I got the day's special, Smoky Pah, which had smoky salsa, chile poblano, bacon, muenster cheese, grilled onion, lettuce, and tomato, along with a patty. It was very flavorful and filling. I ordered it with a side of fries ($3), and the fries were great and crispy. I also tried vee-vee (bacon-topped cheesy fries), which was pretty good too but did not have as much bacon flavor as I expected.

Yelp
I go to the Zed a lot, and was super excited that this new place had opened up inside, for some more food options! Pah! has lots of delicious pub food-type items (burgers, fries, a blooming onion app I didn't order this time but saw others order--and it looked so good I want to try it next time--etc.), perfect for pairing with the Zoigelhaus beers on tap at the Zed. I got the fish and chips and they were really tasty (fries well seasoned, fish perfectly battered and crispy, a spiced dipping sauce)--and the fish serving size was super generous (my partner had to help me finish it)! Pah! is Deaf owned and operated, and even though I don't speak ASL, the cashier made communication super easy and accessible, and I was easily able to order and get my delicious food! Definitely check Pah! out at the Zed (just note it's not immediately visible: you have to turn the corner past Sherpa Kitchen to find it at the end of the food hall corridor).

Yelp
Pah! is a new food stand within The Zed brewery and food hall. The Zed is also Zoiglhaus Brewing. Pah! has pub fare, burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips-skinny fries. Their special sauce is a lemony variation on French dressing. I had a tasty BLT, though we have not reached peak Summer tomato. They have a little wireless blinker-buzzer for when the order is ready and the Zoiglhaus counter has metal knives and forks. The owner is deaf and pah! is American Sign Language slang for finally, it's about time, success, or eureka. Pah! has a strong positive meaning in the history of the deaf rights movement. Finally there is a hangout for deaf families. Opening day was really a happy event in the community. I'm not deaf and it was easy to order, this new spot welcomes all! All their dishes have unique deaf names you can look up too!

Yelp
The staff are so nice and welcoming and the food was amazing. The prices are very reasonable consider you get so much food. I highly recommend this place and will definitely eat here again.

Yelp
Truth be told, I was not in a good mood the night I discovered this place. It was a cold, dark, winter evening, and it seemed later than it was. Hit with a burger craving, a google search ensued, and the result was Pah! Finding the place was a little tricky -- it's in the back left corner of the Zed -- which if you've never been there, is a Portland-hip indoor food court. But picking up my order was just like picking up an order anywhere, except that the friendly, charming person who greeted me, rang me up and gave me my food indicated I should speak into what appeared to be a microphone of some kind on the counter. There were two people behind the counter preparing food and putting orders together, but instead of the usual chatter I'm used to hearing in restaurant kitchens, it was quiet. As for the burger? Oh wow. I'm telling you -- if you're like me and you eat a burger once every four of five years...make it the KissFist. It's a plump, juicy, flavorful, honest-to-goodness burger, no BS. Absolutely, phenomenally good burger, and it came with fries, which were warm, toasty, crisp perfection, even after the drive home. It may be years before I crave another burger, but you better believe I'll be back to Pah! to check out the rest of the menu. From my brief glance at the pictures and descriptions of the other items, I already know I'll have a tough time choosing my next Pah! entrée.

Yelp
Thank you for making us so comfortable as we navigated our way through ordering! Zoigl-haus is a fave spot for beer and so happy to read in Oregonian about this new venture so we had to stop by! Freshly made , price, quality, quantity on point.
google avatar

Gretchen K.

Yelp
In a city teeming with burger joints, this one stand above. While the fries were a little too done, the bacon cheeseburger blew my mind. I wished I lived closer so I could go all the time!
google avatar

Mitchel K.

Yelp
Thank you for the tip. The Fish & Chips more then outstanding. Very English like Unseen somewhere else.
google avatar

Frank U.

Yelp
Amazing burger Week burger! Delicious and smoky and gooey-cheesey! Nice people running the place. It's inside Zoiglhaus brewing Co. Oh and they don't speak, they may be deaf or mute.
google avatar

Sharon C.

Yelp
Burgers were amazing definitely better than any other burgers I ever had! My boyfriend loved the sauce especially!
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
Awesome food and nice friendly people! I had the "Do-Do" (bacon lettuce tomato sandwich) and the "For-For" (fries) and it was so tasty! The atmosphere is open seating and it shares space with other small eateries but the TVs were big and the decor was a fun pub-feel. I'll definitely go back!
google avatar

Corina V.

Yelp
People are nice. The food..... meh. The burgers taste like they are made with cheap meat. Heavy grease. Not very flavorful either. Probably wouldn't come back.

ken b.

Yelp
Came to Pah! For burger week and we got the Smokey Pah. The burger was juicy with bright green veggies that really made the burger balanced. Hint of spice and a big chew. The beacon was lackluster compared to other ingredients used. Had it with a tart cherry drink. Would recommend
google avatar

Yelp
PAH (Finally) made it to PAH! This has been on our list for a while! Absolutely loved our entire meal! The Zed food hall is a great location for this fantastic PDX best of! Best fish & chips we have ever had and we are soccer fans who eat fish and chips for breakfast! Not sure how they got such massive fish pieces to be perfectly flaky and too greasy but we are here for it! Cheeseburger and french fries were also 7 year old approved and the game hall has games so SORRY game piece is pictured for scale only-- you will NOT be sorry you came here! Highly recommend you support this deaf-owned restaurant because eating awesome food made by awesome peeps is rad!
google avatar

Brittney K.

Yelp
Right now these are my favorite fish and chips in Portland! The breading was delicious and the fish flaky and perfect- dipping sauce yes please. I split this along with the fried onion with a friend and there was plenty of food. Can't wait to try some other items!
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Food is champ! Fish battered and fried to perfection, juicy, flavorful ‍. Burger-week burger a wonderful mouthful - that salsa is . PDX Deafies finally have a spot for delicious food & good drinks fully accessible to us. Hearies can easily order as well. Overall good food, good people behind the counter, and good vibes at the Zoigl.
google avatar

Mari M.

Yelp
We were perfectly happy with our selections and the quality. Hungry for a BLT and sometimes these can be meh. Excellent choice at Pah! The bacon was perfectly cooked, the sourdough bread was the right thickness and toasted. Fries were delicious and they were seasoned well. Good choice!
google avatar

Scot P.

Yelp
Champ burger very delicious and I love there. More open social too. Recommend go there .

Yelp
As an ASL student at PSU, Pah! had been on my radar, but it wasn't until today that I managed to get over there with a friend for a weekend lunch. We had a great time and the food was delicious. It's definitely a burger joint--we split the Big Louie (which is Pah!'s patty melt), a bloomin' onion (the #258), and a salad (the That-That) and all were excellent. The salad was a surprising hit, totally fresh (we had the house vinaigrette dressing) and I would rank the patty melt highly. The bloomin' onion was a mess but that's part for the course and it didn't stop us from eating it! Was a great opportunity to test out my ASL abilities, the guy at the register was so friendly and accommodating, and only at the very end of placing our order did we realize there was an option for voice-to-text ordering onto a tablet. I was super glad to have made the effort and we would happily eat here again when the deep-fry craving hits!

Yelp
Food is really good!! Excited to explore more of their menu. Victor provides amazing customer service, this is a passionate restaurant that deserves your attention and support!

Yelp
Great fish and chips, large portions, and reasonable price! was very satisfied with my sliders, and onion flower appetizer

Yelp
I discovered this place through Portland Burger week. I had their Smokey Pah which I think is a special creation for Burger week. It includes bacon, a roasted poblano chili, and one of my favorites, Muenster cheese (among other ingredients). This is a deaf owned establishment in the Zoiglhaus brewery space. The burger was fresh and tasted great. The service was quick and the owners were very friendly. I loved my experience there and will definitely be back to try their other items.

Yelp
Doesn't look much as to pass, I was super hungry and had to stop by since I do love phug food. The food is very tasty very delicious, it does take a little overwhelming to wait for the food but however it's because they make it and prepare it with a lot of love. I promise you you won't regret it you should try it out for yourself.

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Seen they were open and highly rated. Drove out of our way to go there and try it. Their business hours clearly had them listed as open. We get there and see all the workers just standing in the back. They then proceed to tell us that they have randomly closed for 2 hours for a "special interview" Whatever that means, maybe the best cashier in Portland had applied and they all needed to be involved.

Darren H.

Yelp
This is such a fantastic place, I'm very excited to have a deaf owned restaurant here in Portland. I went and the restaurant is located in a large building with lots of options for alcohol, and some other foods too. But Pah! Has the best food- the burgers are fantastic and they have plenty of vegan options! But the fish was my favorite part. These are HUGE and juicy on the inside with the perfect amount of crispy outside. Melted in my mouth, fantastic. Definitely my new favorite spot. DEFINITELY try this restaurant!!!

Dead H.

Yelp
I ordered the fish. It was way over cooked. Portion size was a big. The person was very friendly. I thought the drinks were on the high side compared to other places. Personally I would not recommend this place. I won't be back.
google avatar
