Paia Fish Market Restaurant

Tried Paia Fish Market today for lunch and the food was amazing! I ordered a seafood salad with the garden salad option, Caesar dressing on the side, and mahi-mahi. The fish was perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned, and so flavorful. The salad was super fresh with crisp, healthy vegetables. I also got a side of deep-fried shrimp, which was phenomenal, crispy, light, and not greasy at all. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying, and the portion sizes are generous, so I even had leftovers to take home. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!

First time visiting Maui (and Hawaii) with family. There was a short line, but it moved quickly. I ordered the charbroiled mahi mahi (or ono) burger with a garden salad. Others at the table ordered fresh catch plates (mahi mahi and ono, sautéed and charbroiled) with Cajun rice, plus the seafood pasta. We shared everything family-style. The seafood pasta was very rich and heavy — glad I didn’t order it myself. The fish burger was good overall. The fish itself was fairly mild, but it paired well with the sauce, lettuce, and tomato, making for a satisfying meal. Overall, solid seafood and a reliable stop in Paia. Not the closest location to where we were staying, but clearly the most popular — and for good reason. I finished my plate, felt great the next morning, and placed 4th overall in my race, so no complaints. Last visited: January 17, 2026

Delicious! We have been eating here for 15+ years and have always loved it! Today, I enjoyed the fish tacos, my husband had Mahi burgers, and my son loved the veggie quesadilla. It’s a nice environment with plenty of seating options, especially if you come in for an early dinner or late lunch.

Great experience here overall. The staff were incredibly kind, food was really good, and we found the prices to be quite fair. Would recommend this place and we would stop by again. The wait looked long, but it was actually quite quick. The staff keep everything moving efficiently. We arrived about 11:50 - 12:00, took not even 10 minutes to move down the line, place our order, and get seated. Had a group of 6 and we were able to get in and out in 30 minutes tops. Great spot.

I got really lucky and walked in with no line, but literally 10 minutes after me a long queue had already formed. I ordered the seafood pasta for $26, and honestly, it was worth every single cent. Huge portion, rich and flavorful, lots of Parmesan, and they were very generous with the seafood. Everything was perfectly balanced and incredibly satisfying. I left extremely happy — definitely a place I’d come back to.

The literal best fish sandwich I've ever had in my entire life. Great menu to choose from. Many options on how you want your fish. Everything was fresh. Homemade tartar sauce. You're gonna wish you could take a bucket of it with you. The staff is SO nice. They will take care of you. Also get the local fruit drink. Get it. It's so good. The place is very comfortable. Great stools that actually fit your butt and very clean. Sit at the window bar and you can people watch. We will be going back, definitely. Update: we went back almost every day of our stay.

Worth the wait! I had to wait in a line out the door into the street to be seated for about 30 mins but it was worth it. I ordered a grilled pink snapper sandwich and was impressed. The flavor was amazing with the grilled snapper, tomato, coleslaw, and shredded cheese. The only reason I would not give the service a five star is because I was not a big fan of the style of service. The atmosphere was very chill and family friendly. Would come again.

We were there for a late lunch. The food was good and unique as I had never eaten a ahi burger before. It was good and odd at the same time. The burger had cold slaw on it as well which was gave it a crispy and tasty touch. My wife had fish tacos with cubed fried potatoes and rice. I tried hers as well and it was very good. Have to love crispy cold slaw! The staff was friendly and prompt. There was plenty of seating pic nic style tables. Out door seating as well. Seems like a great place for casual dining occasions. Plenty of parking around back.

Wow! Great food for a great price! We just got there in enough time to still get one of their signature sides potatoes & rice..... some covered seating and also some outside along the street. Great place to have a family dinner!!!

I liked this place a lot. Possibly the best bang for your buck in Maui as far as grilled fish goes. I had high hopes for the burger, but ended up preferring the taco. Would 100% recommend if you want something light, fresh, full of protein and no BS. Flavor is on the bland side like most fish grill places in Hawaii, but they have a good condiment selections for you to dress it up however you like, in addition to the classic salt and pepper. Food came pretty fast for us, but we got there right after they opened at 11am. The line during peak hours is INSANE. I wouldn't dare to try. lol

Paia fish market is totally a bomb place to go. Everything everybody had was absolutely fantastic. I'm not sure how other reviewers gave it a one star. Maybe they don't like fish. Everything was so, so very fresh and seasoned perfectly, delicious, moist, flavorful, and it was quick. We had the calamari, fish, fish tacos, seafood, pasta, onion rings, fish platters, besides the regular fish. Everything was so so tasty. Matter of fact, we might go back before we leave again. If you don't go, try them out, you'll be missing out. They have their system of seating down dialed in. You can't sit down until you order but by the time you order, there's always seats available. They rock it !!!

We've been to the Paia Fish Market in Waikiki and just loved it so while in Paia we had to stop here for lunch. Food is always good here and for Maui it is very reasonably priced for a good fish meal. We ordered the fresh catch lunch plate with sautéed Opakapaka and blackened Ono both with their Cajun rice and coleslaw. So good! Best to get here early because when we left the line was very long! A must stop!

We ate here last night and the crowd was not bad. There was no line but the dining room was still 80% full. I have eaten here from when they first opened. The service was quick and friendly with the cashier and the girl that was dining room they did an excellent job. The food was good but the plates came out kinda sloppy maybe kitchen was tired or just an off night. Like I said the food was good. My Opakapaka (Red Snapper) was prepared well and was fresh and tasty. The rice was good and so was the Cole slaw. Portions were decent. We also ordered the Ono which was also well done cooked to perfection and also fresh a little firmer than the Opakapaka but definetly had a rich flavor. I like how they have expanded the dining room over time and I love the decorations on the wall. They definetly needed more room. I remember when they first opened the dining area was half of what it is and they have brightened up the interior. The old decor was fun but we are here to eat fresh good fish. So I recommend this place.

Always love coming to Paia whenever in Hawaii. This time I tried the ono instead of the mahi mahi and though it was good it definitely was not as soft and flakey as mahi mahi but I'm glad that I tried something new! It was more tough and rubbery. Cajun rice and blackened is that way to maximize the flavor. So I always go with that order. Calamari was delicious! Could taste the freshness and chewiness of the calamari. Just wish it came with more. Can get busy inside the restaurant but the tables come and go quickly. Restaurant is located in the corner spot but always a line out the door. Can get lively and busy.

Always love Paia Fish Market for fresh seafood at a fair price. This is the original but used to love going to the Front St location and look forward to a hopeful eventual return to Lahaina. Also enjoy going here when in Honolulu (and even when on the other side of the island in Kailua!) as it's conveniently located in town and makes for an excellent food choice when traveling in business. As for the original Paia location, definitely my favorite as I've been going there the longest and rarely have a bad meal. Highly recommend the seared Ahi as it's just melt in your mouth deliciousness and along with a side of potatoes, it makes for a perfect amount of food if you feel like pivoting away from mainstay staples like Mahi or Ono. Only negative is that Paia parking can be atrocious so keep it in mind that you may be walking there from a considerable distance, and most likely further than you initially imagined. To that end, I recommend driving up the hill to the post office and use their public parking which is typically easier to find a spot and not a terrible walk down the hill. Enjoy!

This place was packed when we got here, and for good reason. We waited in line for about 20min before we were able to order. I Got the Mahi Mahi Cajun style with fries and coleslaw The fish was very flavorful. A tad bit dry at the edges but overall very good. The coleslaw that was included is very refreshing and the fries were seasoned very well. Highly recommend getting extra tartare sauce, that was one of the best tartare sauces I've ever had! Tip: A good way to skip the line if you don't want to wait is to call in and order to go. Take a walk around the cute town while you wait for your food

Yum! This was one of my favorite meals of the trip. I love a good fish, well-cooked with delicious flavors and the Cajun rice was bomb!! They were quick, efficient, brought out the food quickly. It's a seat-yourself type of situation. But a solid healthy meal, and best believe I'll be back next time we visit Maui again! :)

Paia Fish Market is INCREDIBLE!! It's our first time visiting Maui and we wanted fresh fish. This is the place to go if you want that. AND you can decide how you want it cooked: charbroiled, blackened, Cajun style, fried. It's amazing and I tried both the blackened and Cajun style ways-- loved em both! For fish I tried Mahi Mahi and first time visiting got the Mahi Mahi Blackened with the French fries; second time I got the Mahi Mahi Cajun style with house potatoes. They also serve it with coleslaw and a lemon. It's honestly one of the best restaurants I have been to in Maui. The fish is incredible! Ambiance is loud and you kinda have to eat quickly and move on since they get really busy. But it's worth it. Very tasty spot and the staff is really nice and hard working.

If you're looking for fresh and affordable fish on Maui, look no further and go to Paia Fish Market. The OG store is in Paia but they also have one on the southside. Service is fast when it's not busy. I went around 4 pm but usually lunch time and dinner time can be the busiest. Purchase your food FIRST before seating yourself or saving a seat. If you don't dine in, they're strict about seating. I always recommend the fish taco plate, fish special plate (which you can get any style!) and their fish burger with fries. I always do a fish taco plate (1 taco is lunch and 2 is for dinner if you're hungry). You can do whatever side you'd like but I'd recommend half pilaf rice and half potatoes. Make sure you add their signature Magic Sauce for a dash of sweet and spicy and their tartar sauce.

Love how casual and yet always busy this place seemed to be! Was so good went twice while on Maui! Went to both restaurants on the island ordered different things each time and was absolutely amazed by how soft buttery and well seasoned the fish always was. So fresh so well cooked honestly I wish I could have this back home! Fish was so buttery so flaky seasoned so well I cannot stress enough but how good it is!

There's a ton of great food on the island, but Paia Fish Market is a must eat. The Vibe IS Paia. The team is welcoming and service amazing for fast casual. The food is awesome! Order in front and find your own seating. This place has delicious fish at the small town of Paia. We ordered the blackened salmon plate with Cajun rice, and tacos with fries. All were extremely fresh and flavorful. Their tartare sauce complemented great with the food too.

One of our favorite fish restaurants on Maui, always fresh and well prepared and we always make a point of eating here at least once when we're here. Not a full service restaurant but their pricing reflects this and the person at the counter is always friendly and cordial as are the servers. The fish is always fresh and well prepared and looks and tastes just as I expect or even better. If you are looking for a great fish lunch or dinner in a clean and casual setting, give them a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Back here again after at least seven years, and the place is still packed with people. This place must be a real cash machine for the owners. As before, the food was very good, but it was a little bit aggravating to stand in line for 15 to 20 minutes. Fish and chips were quite good. I think the fish might've been mahi-mahi. My wife had a snapper fillet on burger bun and it was delicious. Coleslaw was good. They had a pineapple beer that my wife liked and I had an interesting pineapple-orange soda. Ambiance is stand in line and then try to carve out a spot to sit at one of the tables.

5 star fish and chips that is a must try. The fish was fresh and had great flavor. They were breaded instead of beer battered where you mostly get the batter. The pieces were lean and filling. The tarter sauce complemented it perfectly. We also got the shrimp and calamari plates that were good but not as good as the fish and chips. My daughter also got the ahi plate and it was so much food and so yummy! Service was extremely friendly, attentive and it was an enjoyable visit. The restaurant was super clean with plenty of seating. The bathrooms were also clean!

Enjoyed the Mahi burger this time ($14). So filling. Got calamari ($10) which in this case are large breaded strips. Gotta respect the OG location. Lunch prices until 4:30pm

Hmmm... I think i may have just had the best fish sandwich ever. That does not happen every day. I ordered a char broiled Mahi-Mahi on a brioche bun with coleslaw, side of fries. Washed it down with a nice golden ale. Damn! That was delicious! I also tasted the Ahi which as also outstanding. The fish was perfectly preprepared, flavorful, succulent and had a nice char on it. The brioche bun was fresh soft and big. The coleslaw was (despite my preference for NY deli style coleslaw) ... well it was outstanding too and perfect for this sandwich. Order off the menu board, choose fish, choose platter or sandwich, choose side, choose drink. The draft golden ale paired with the sandwich well and the whole thing left me full yet wanting more. So we will go back in a couple days for another helping. We went at 5:00pm on a Thursday in July. There was a line. We put in our order and waited for a table. By 6:00 pm the line was out the door and down the side of the restaurant. Seating is limited so you have some choices here. Since IMHO this is quite possibly the best fish sandwich on Maui or anywhere else for that matter... you are going to have to come here, you will need a strategy. 1. Don't worry about it arrive when you like stand on line and hover for a table or 2. Take it to go or 3. Go on off hours to avoid the mealtime crowds. This place is hopping and for good reason. They have the best fish sandwich on Maui. (Get it? Don't miss it...) Park in the municipal lot a block and a half away for free. Double highly recommend.

Are you joking?! This place is crack. Absolutely hands down so good. I tried everything on the menu and I can say my favorite dish was the "snapper - blackened - w/ fries"

After a long day on the Road to Hana, this was a great place to unwind. My husband dropped me off to wait in line and parked down the street in a free lot. The line went out the door but gave us plenty of time to decide what to order. \\ blackened ono - the cajun flavors complimented the mild taste of the flaky white fish - ordered it with fries that someone said were as good as McDonald's in all the best ways--and I agree heh - I used to dislike coleslaw until I visited Maui and Paia Fish Market. turns out I just don't like when the cabbage is completely swimming. this coleslaw was a surprising star of the show for me \\ blackened ahi (medium rare) - we were imagining pink ahi thinly covered in a layer of cooked flesh and cajun seasoning but parts of it were definitely well-done, maybe because the fish was uneven in thickness - got this with the roasted potatoes which were hearty and delicious We sat at a bar facing out the window towards some street performers. Overall a well-lit, warm place to linger a bit.

Had never stopped in town and the family wanted to come back to this spot for lunch. I had the fish and chips which was delicious. Probably the best tartar sauce I've had. My husband got the fish tacos which we said were okay. My BIL got the chicken fajitas which were very saucy and little chicken. We took home more magic sauce, that stuff is delicious. All in all not a bad spot to get a meal.

This was the very first place we visited after arriving in Maui! I'd been so curious about this spot while planning our trip, and the long line outside definitely showed how popular it is. We ordered a variety of dishes to try, and everything was incredibly fresh -- the kind that just melts in your mouth. The Maui beer was ice-cold and perfect, too! Service was quick and attentive, and the interior had a fun, welcoming vibe that really appealed to tourists. It was such a satisfying and memorable first experience in Maui!

We stopped into Paia Fish Market on our last day in Maui--about three hours before our flight home--and honestly, it was the perfect final chapter to our trip. Pā'ia is such a cute little town, full of character, cool shops, and a laid-back vibe that makes it feel like more than just a pit stop. And with it being so close to the airport, it was an easy call to swing through one more time before heading back to the mainland. We grabbed a quick table seat and ordered one last plate. I got the blackened snapper sandwich with fries--no frills, just fresh fish cooked right. The snapper was tender and flavorful, with that perfect crust of seasoning, and the fries were golden and crispy, the slaw was crisp and well dressed, adding that much needed bit of freshness. It hit all the right notes: comforting, satisfying, and just enough heat to keep things interesting. They house sauce was a unique addition and a must try. I honestly don't know how to best describe it. Sitting there, taking that last bite of island flavor, we couldn't help but soak in the charm of the place--the easy energy, the sound of orders being called, the smell of grilled fish in the air. It felt like the kind of local spot you'd go back to again and again if you lived nearby. Big mahalo to Paia Fish Market for giving us one last memory (and meal) to carry home. It was the perfect send-off.

Absolutely delicious fish tacos. Fish is flavorful and cooked well. Not over cooked!! Never disappoints and always fresh veggie slaw on top. Tortilla are fresh too.

Good corner location in Paia. Longest line out of all the restaurants in Paia so we ate here. Good food & good portion. Wait in line, walk up to order then grab a table. Easy place to find & eat before exploring the north east side of Maui.

Stopped here for dinner after our Road to Hāna adventures and glad we did. The fish and chips my husband had were delicious (of course I snagged a bite before he doused them in Tabasco) but I was exceptionally pleased with my fish tacos. Absolutely delicious. The Cole slaw was a vinegar/dill based slaw with big chunks of cabbage. We both had a bowl of the clam chowder and it was okay but nothing spectacular. We also shared the calamari and it was cooked to perfection as well. The breading isn't heavy so whatever you are enjoying still shines through. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu and I'm so glad we stopped there for dinner tonight. Perfect and to a perfect day.

We saw lines out the door multiple times during our 24 hours here and so we came For dinner before we left for the airport. Definitely worth the hype. Our last meal in Maui and my groups of 3's favorite. Everything on the menu looks good.

We tried a ton of restaurants in Maui during our stay in December, but this one may have been my favorite. Practically no wait to get your food, good prices and the taste of the fish... incredible!!! I got a piece of sautéed mahi mahi and it tasted incredibly fresh. Worth the drive!

Hot, fresh and delicious. We arrived here mid-afternoon after Road to Hana. I'm particular and don't often indulge in home fries and coleslaw -100% worth it. I'd definitely come back. Yum!

Yuk, husband was sick all night after eating here. (We did road to Hana all day and this dinner was all we ate all day, totally fine before dining) We split an opakapaka dinner plate and he took several bites before we noticed the fish wasn't cooked thoroughly. Our plate was removed and fish thrown back on the grill and same piece brought back to us on our now cold, contaminated potatoes. We picked at the edges and decided not to eat any more. Also ordered onion rings and although appeared normal, tasted burned signaling the oil must be burnt/dirty. Coleslaw yuk.

The continual line out the door says it all. The wait is worth it - food is absolutely fantastic. Bonus - good value for the island!

I've been here half a dozen times, each time getting different fish with different way it's prepared, it is excellent every time and continues to be a place we will visit. Super flavor, fresh as can be. There are another couple of locations but this one is the one we keep going to. There is usually a line, so be prepared to wait, as there isn't a ton of seating.

Always fabulous! Fish n chips were spot on and staff was very organized. We stop in everytime we come to Paia. Get there early if you do t want to wait in line. The place is fairly small and li scan be long.

Fresh fish, we tried their snapper dish with cajun which we liked more than charred snapper , though both are great. We also tried their shrimp pasta which tasty too. We were lucky to get the tables early. Its a small place but clean, well kept.

We had a long wait, but once we ordered and found seats by the window, we got our food quickly. Nice employees and good service. Hubby got some amazingly fresh, local caught grilled fish with delicious homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw. I got fish tacos, which were fine, but not my fave, I'd still recommend this cute place, but don't be in a rush. The line is long!!

Lining up before lunch opening was well worth it. We'd seen (and heard about) the lengthy lines so we arrived just about 7 minutes before opening on a Sunday morning and were the second party in line, with a party of 5 in front of us. We were served quickly and with very friendly and helpful service, including assistance with purchasing a t-shirt. As reported by others, the dining room isn't particularly large for the volume of guests they receive, but it was clean and bright since it's a corner spot. We quickly scored a table by the window. Almost as quickly as we took our seats, our grub started making its way to our table, as it was ready. First, the order of onion rings ~ hot and crunchy. Next, his ono burger ~ epic portion! Lastly, my mahi mahi fajitas with fixings ~ yummy and again, super generous helping. All tasty and served piping hot! Would definitely return, especially arriving early to avoid a lengthy wait seems the way to go.

One of my favorite spots this trip. The food was fresh and light and full of flavor. The home fries/potatoes were so buttery delicious! We ordered a variety of dishes and enjoyed every one of them. Add some magic sauce to the tacos to make them even more delicious. You order at the register first then grab a seat at this location and they bring your food to you. Inside there are tables and window seats available for a quick bite but there could be a bit of a wait. Staff was attentive trying to clear tables as soon as they opened up.

Good food, multiple options, casual dining and a great spot to get a bite on your way back from Road to Hana. Highly recommended. Reasonably priced.

Pretty good spot for lunch after the Road to Hana. I had the chicken pasta and it was good. My boyfriend had the chicken burger and he thought it was good too, just needed a little seasoning. We paid extra for fries but they were not very good and were a little soggy and under seasoned. We really enjoyed the crispy onion rings though! We finished them before taking a picture. I also enjoyed the pasta.

Original start in the carefree beatnik town of Paia. Parking is difficult but everything is nearby in this small hippie compound. No beach view, fast food tip first counter service, self seating if you get lucky; not good for groups. The get your own water station needs a cleanliness monitor. The food also comes out pretty quickly despite the long line of orders. Atlantic Salmon? Oh well, expectations lowered. Menu states "charbroiled to perfection". Really? Plate comes out ~ large portion presentation over a bed of Cajun rice and a side of slaw. First bite is of the coleslaw ~ mild cream, crunchy cabbage, nice. Small spoon of the Cajun rice ~ enjoyable chewy texture, just the right amount of butter, nice. Fish ~ it was to perfection! The large fish was flavorful and char was a clean delicate crisp compliment to the tender filet. All three so good together. No need to sprinkle any sauces that are provided on the table; they are very dirty anyway and need a good cleaning. Gobbled it up. Excellent dish. Local lager for a satisfying finish.

I had previously gotten the fish tacos and was shockingly disappointed - and have diagnosed it as an issue with the tortilla. This past weekend I had them again and they were the best of my life. But I did have a very crispy delicious tortilla - I noticed some coming out were not that way, much more raw. Thats definitely the make or break of my fish taco experience. This was the best meal we had while in Maui! I got the charbroiled Mahi Mahi and fish tacos. The Mahi Mahi fish plate was perfect, the flavor and even the Cajun rice and potatoes were all cooked to perfection. My friends got the blackened salmon and charbroiled salmon, also really good! All of the fish tasted very fresh. Honestly I think whatever fish plate and preparation you get you'll be satisfied. The tartar sauce tasted really good too and it paired amazingly with our food. The fish tacos were okay, I wouldn't order them again. Highly recommend the fish plates though! We had to come back a second time during our trip and were still left craving it. The line can get long, but I'd say it's worth the wait. There's not many seats inside either, so we just took our food to-go and ate it at a park nearby.

Great seafood, fun atmosphere. Long line at lunch but well worth the wait. The cute Argentinian gal at the register was fun, particularly en espanol. Actually one of the best value lunches we've enjoyed on this visit to Maui. Will definitely come back again. Mahalo!
