Korean Noodle Chain Hongkongbanjum Opens New Restaurant in Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"I noticed Paik’s Noodle has moved from the Zion Market food court into a standalone storefront on Convoy Street. Previously known as Hongkongbanjum, the chain was founded almost 20 years ago in Seoul and now has more than 300 outlets worldwide, and it was renamed Paik’s Noodle after South Korean celebrity chef and television host Paik Jong-won. The local franchisees relocated San Diego’s only branch to a full-service restaurant space next to Hive, and they’re performing upgrades to the site that are expected to be completed by early 2025. The menu still revolves around jajangmyeon—chewy noodles topped with a thick black bean sauce—often paired with yellow pickled radish and a plate of tangsuyuk (crispy fried pork with a sweet-and-sour dipping sauce); other specialties include jjamppong, and newly added items like fried shrimp in a sweet-and-spicy chili sauce and a jajangmyeon with extra pork." - Candice Woo

The jajangmyeon noodles were bland, and the wings were salty. I was disappointed in the single banchan offered of pickled diakon. The beef jjamppong was unexpectedly spicy and we couldn't feed any of it to our child. The serving sizes of the noodles were large though for the price. The space is a drab concrete hall that is too brightly lot. It shares restrooms with the bar next door. Service was okay, if a bit understaffed and we were given a refill of water.

The spicy chicken here is to die for! I stumbled across this new restaurant when another restaurant I was going to add a wait time so I decided to eat here and then it was a great decision. it was me and my wife each got a entrée and a appetizer each. I got the beef soup and the spicy chicken. Both were phenomenal. My wife got the sweet chili shrimp and the stirfry noodles with some extra spice added to it. I was able to take a bite of each one of her items, and those noodles were so good. They just opened up so the waiter said their men is gonna have more items and they’re gonna have a full bar and karaoke at this location. Can’t wait to come back.

Wonderful experience with delicious food. We had their food when they were at Zion Market, and it was always delicious. We ate at their new location, and the food was still delicious and flavorful. The new location is great, and the restaurant offers plenty of seating, and you order from a tablet on the table, which was very convenient. The staff members were all friendly. 1. Jajangmyeon 2. Beef Jjamppong 3. Fried Dumplings (8) 4. Sweet And Sour Pork

I am an avid fan of this restaurant and have been a frequent customer since they opened at Zion Market. Glad to see their quality has remained consistent and even more tastier as their own sit down restaurant here. My friend and I ordered to share the sweet and sour pork and chili jajangmyeon which was the best spice kick I could ask for. This portion was perfect for two! Definitely will return and bring everyone I know here :)

The seafood jajangmyeon was a banger, but the crispy pork was a miss. It was a bit too dry for my liking and the sauce they provided wasn't that good. I would recommend you give it a try but it didn't feel super special amongst all the other options on Convoy. I might be back in a bit to try it again.

Just keep in mind I came here on a Monday at 6 PM so we didn't have to wait for a table or battle for parking. This parking lot was not turned into a paid lot try. It's where Chorus and Hive are. It's still fairly new so the menu is slightly limited. We saw photos of dishes on the wall but were told they were not available until next year. The jjajangmyeon was slightly watery. I got the "meat" one so there were strips of grilled pork. My husband got the "spicy" one which was green chili on top. It was not crazy spicy according to him but it was not that painful spicy. We got the chili shrimp and I really liked that. It was crispy, fried jumbo shrimp over with sweet chili sauce on a bed of cabbage. It had enough heat making your lips feel some heat. I liked it even though it's not a fancy dish. If I don't have to come on a busy weekend night I'm down to come back. Oh just be ready to order on really slow tablets but your order gets through as long you're patient with the tablets. The tables are far enough where you feel like you're not on top of each other like at other restaurants in Convoy.

Google
Amazing food and service. Better jjajangmyeon than most other places in convoy. Noodles tasted fresh and sauce was great. Tangsuyuk was the best, not too deep fried with tender pork on the inside. Ambiance wasn’t the best but for affordable quality food this was great.

Google
The first time I had Paik's jiamppong, it was in Torrance in a HMART food court. Safe to say, it did not leave an impression on me so I would avoid it. Coming here, it has completely changed my mind. Their jiamppong is hearty and delicious. Filled with seafood and veggies, I usually get the regular jiamppong and sometimes the meat version. The meat version has tons of beef on top. Service is great, and they check up on you regularly to make sure everything is ok. Ordering is easy, done on a tablet so you do not have to wait for a server to come take your order. If I am ever craving jiamppong, this is the place I will go to.

Yelp
Food: First time trying the black bean noodles and it was so good! It's a pretty large portion too so my friend and I shared and it was perfect. It's super flavorful and the sauce is more on the thick side rather than liquidy. Service: They're pretty helpful but ordering takes place on a tablet. Ambiance: It's large with multiple tables and decently busy. It's also bright and has tv's displayed around.

Yelp
I came with some friends and they've been before, so I was pretty sure that it'd be good, but I was pleasantly impressed! The service was pretty nice; we got there around six and there weren't many people yet, so we got seating really easily. The servers would check in from time to time, to give us a new water jug and to check in on us. We ordered through the little machine at our desk and it worked wonderfully. I got jjajangmyeon, which I usually don't like thattttt much, but this was good! Really good! The portion was good; sauce to noodles ratio was also good. What more can you ask for with a good jjajangmyeon? We also got sweet and sour pork, which was delicious! The fries and chicken wings were also a hit at our table. I'd totally recommend for a party of any size to come here! It's got high ceilings, lots of space, and a lot of seating options. Their service is also quick, so it shouldn't be any problem to host a larger party. I think they also apparently have some karaoke rooms? So if you're feeling like you want some jjajangmyeon and some karaoke, this is the place for you.

Yelp
We had the following in multiple visits: Jajang Rice Jajangmyeon with extra meat Creamy Shrimp Sweet and Sour Pork Pepper Beef Jjampong Five stars for all the meals when this place was new at its original area. The jajangmyeon was balanced and the noodles were chewy. The shrimp, pork, and beef were crispy. Since they moved to the karaoke area due to air conditioning issues, the shrimp and pork haven't been crispy. Really greasy. And most of all the jajangmyeon dishes have been loaded with sugar. Not sure if this is a completely different person now cooking.

Yelp
Went for lunch, got seated right away as it's a huge place, service was quick and super friendly (you can also order on the table tablet), and there were lunch combos. For two, we shared the jajangmyeon, sweet and sour pork, and a side order of the jjamppong. Food came out quick, came with all the necessary utensils and flavors were delicious! Looks like they have karaoke and special events in the evenings.

Yelp
Paik is located inside a plaza on convoy st. There's plenty of tables. Once seated, every table had a kiosk that you can order from. Once we ordered, our server brought us our water and our food followed shortly. I ordered the jjangmyun (black bean noodles). The sauce was on the sweeter side. The noodles were a bit hard so I wished they were cooked a little longer. While my sauce was a good consistency, I noticed that my boyfriend's jjangmyun was very watery. The service was quick, but the food was just okay.

Yelp
HUGE comfort dishes. Jjamppong is one of my favorite soups - thick noodle, spicy seafood broth, with lots of seafood pieces and pork. I really liked that they had a 'more meat' option on the menu, they PILED on the pork. Portions are huge and I took home half of it. Love the free daikon radishes as a side dish. My group also go sweet and sour pork to share, which again was a huge portion. I like their crispy fried coating. The sweet and sour sauce was nice and tangy and pretty light. Others in my group got jajangmyeon, the black bean noodles, and they enjoyed it! Service was pretty good, and food came out fast. I would definitely return to Convoy next time I'm craving jjamppong!

Yelp
TLDR: Served lies from the door to the meal. Tofu jjampong tasted like lazy mix of chili sauce and water, while the sweet and sour chicken tasted like fried chicken dipped in honey. When confronted about the spicyness, the staff promised to make a new dish and did not offer a substitute item; instead, it was a watered down and overcooked version of my previously lightly eaten meal. 0 / 10, cannot recommend. This Paik's Noodle makes me wish the Korean - Chinese / Hong Kong is best left as two separate cuisines, a forbidden fusion. - - - - - - I've been craving Jjampong for a while since I had it in Korea, and I knew I needed to stop by. I've been wary of Korean takes on Hong Kong food for a while but decided to overstep it. Parking was easy to find even on a weekend afternoon, and a sign saying that Paik's was the best Korean take on Chinese food welcomed us. Ordering was self-service, and I had their tofu jjampong and split a sweet and sour chicken with a friend. The tofu jjampong was probably one of the spiciest I've ever eaten; in fact, after a few bites I asked for a substitute since it was way too spicy. The broth was fairly watery, best characterized as a lazy mix of chili sauce and water. The waitress at the time was disgruntled and only offered to make a new order of tofu jjampong for me. Without any other option, I accepted only to be offered a lazy "watered down" version of the meal I was currently eaten. The evidence was so clear from the bowl colored by remnants of the first offering that it was NOT a new order as promised. The veggies were even returned burnt, and the other meat textures were overboiled. The sweet and sour chicken were alright, coming out flavorless outside of a fry since the sauce was on the side. The sauce reminded me a mixture of honey with a light take on the "sour" portion. This dish also easily ranks at the bottom of all sweet and sour meats I've ever tried. Given this experience, I'm not sure if I'd ever return again.

Yelp
Honestly.... SKIP. This place was on my list for so long and I finally go to try it. That being said, I would never ever come back here again. The food was not nothing special. It didn't taste bad but it also definitely wasn't good.

Yelp
No frills casual eatery serving very filling bar food, overall I liked the vibes but the dishes just adequate . 1st time having Korean Jajangmyeon. It was good but i prefer the Beijing style zhajiangmian in flavors, ingredients & colors. jjamppomg was ok but not memorable, imo adding chili powder to any seafood soup will overpower the umami flavor . Sweet & spicy wings were excellent even though they were not the classic Korean double fried crispy wings. Cream shrimp just meh, the shrimp was not poppy, batter was weird. I prefer the classic walnut shrimp over this. Prices were reasonable, fast friendly service, clean restroom. Finding parking at peak dining hours can be a challenge in the small parking lot. Remember first 2 hr are free parking in Convoy

Yelp
Very disappointed in the flavors of the food here. Everything was so sweet and the noodle texture was over boiled. The food wasn't even hot. Service was nice and food came out quick. The lighting inside made it feel like a warehouse.

Yelp
This is a super well known chain but special due to the bar next door. We appreciate the tablet ordering system that seems very convenient but if only we could use it to pay. We had the staples here , jjajanng noodles, fried pork and jam pong . Compared to chains in Korea this is spot on taste wise just that the IS portions are larger . They do not offer his special kimchi as well as a few add ons that you are used to there. Overall still a great experience and ample parking here

Yelp
~Food/Drinks~ Jjamppong: We ordered two styles: stir-fried noodles and soontofu. These weren't that spicy but every now and then, I felt a kick in the back of my throat. The portion sizes are huge and it comes with a generous amount of seafood. 4 people could easily share the two dishes and be satisfied. I did like the soontofu a bit more because of the silky tofu and soup base. Very good for a cold day! Chili Jajangmyeon: Extremely spicy! If you only want a bit of a kick, make sure to remove some of the chili sauce before mixing everything together. I'm sure it was delicious but it was so hard for me to appreciate the rest of the flavors with my mouth dying. Cream Shrimp: Their version of honey walnut shrimp. The sauce didn't really coat the shrimp and it wasn't until after we finished that we realized all of the sauce was under the cabbage. The shrimp was crispy though and was good enough without all of the sauce. Black Pepper Beef: This tasted more similar to Panda Express Beijing Beef. It looked like the beef was breaded and fried but it wasn't that crispy when it got to our table. Most of the beef was good but there were a couple of dry pieces. Chicken Wings: We ordered two sauces: Garlic Soy and Sweet and Spicy. Each order comes with either 5 or 10 pieces, with 10 pieces being the better deal. These were very good...crispy, moist, and the sauce sticks onto the wings very well. ~Service~ Extremely fast service. All of the food came out at the same time and it probably took less than 10 minutes! Our server was also amazing. We were constantly checked on and they even offered us aprons without us asking for them. He just noticed that some of us were wearing white clothes and thought to offer them to us. ~Atmosphere~ The restaurant shares the same space as Hive so it might be kind of loud during weekend nights. I'm not sure how sound-proof the space is but considering there's a full bar and karaoke going on in the same building, it could get loud. But we went for dinner on a weekday and never noticed anything crazy. As I mentioned earlier, some of us were wearing white clothes and we would end up with random little splashes of sauce or soup. Either use the provided aprons or come in dark color clothes. ~Logistics~ The restaurant is located in a very busy plaza and during peak hours, it's a nightmare. I usually look for parking in the cul-de-sac behind the buildings. The city is going to start charging for parking in all of Convoy but a sign at the restaurant says it will be free for the first two hours. There actually aren't that many tables inside so if you want to be safe, you can try calling to see if they can do a reservation. Everything is ordered through an iPad and when you call the server, you can even specify what you need, like extra utensils, to-go boxes, etc. ~Conclusion~ Overall, a decent meal and we left with a lot of leftovers. The portion sizes for the noodle dishes are huge so you're really getting the most bang for your buck.

Yelp
Craving a bowl of the humble, homestyle noodles in black bean sauce known as jajangmyeon in Korean (a version of Chinese zha jiang mian), and this place hit the spot. Paik's is a worldwide chain originating in Seoul, and there's ample seating at this particular location. Ended up sharing the Chili and the Meat versions, and it occurred to me that a combined option would've been even better! Pro tip: order extra noodles (extra cost) or you'll end up with too much leftover sauce as the proportions are rather off. Complimentary danmuji (yellow pickled radish) was the perfect accompaniment to break up the savory richness of the sauce. Service was fairly hands-off in that you order by screen and the server just brings your food and a water carafe, but not sure why you can't also pay via screen. Perhaps it's an angle for a larger tip, but I for one would appreciate the convenience and tip well regardless so please consider adding that functionality!

Yelp
Came here with friends and their kids on a Saturday evening. We got there around 6PM so the parking and the table was easy to find. The service was really nice. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly, he's a keeper! unfortunately I don't remember his name. The food was ok. I wish they have more variety but the stuff we got was not bad. The highlight was the dumpling (potsticker). It was really nicely made and nicely fried. The rest of the stuff was kinda forgettable. Not bad but nothing memorable either.

Yelp
I absolutely love their jjajangmyeon! The flavors are rich and satisfying, making it a must-try. And I can't forget the sweet and sour crispy pork--it's simply divine! The perfect balance of sweetness and crunch makes it a standout dish. Very spacious with good music. On top of the amazing food, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, which made our visit even more enjoyable. I can't wait to return for another round of these delicious dishes!

Yelp
Cheap and shareable items, perfect for bigger parties or even just for 2! The restaurant is spacious and definitely gives a super casual vibe. It is self seating and you order at the table on the tablet, which is pretty convenient. The parking can be tough in the plaza though. The dishes came out pretty quick. I think next time I would choose the regular non-spicy Jjamppong instead of the spicy version since I feel like the spice kinda overpowered the dish itself? The jjajangmyum was good though, it wasn't overly salty and had a good sauce to noodle ratio. I would come back for something quick and convenient, as well as try their other dishes.

Yelp
Food was so so. Got the black bean noodles and the sweet and sour pork for my daughter and I. She ate the sweet and sour pork, but did not eat much. Went to Panda Express and she ate all the orange chicken. I know for sure she was hungry lol. It was not as good as instagram and tiktok made it look like, but the service was great.

Yelp
I revisited but this time with my mom joining us. They had more choices on the menu! I found it a bit odd they gave us plastic cups to drink from rather than the metal like they had before. We got the Tangsuyuk: Sweet & Sour Pork. The sauce was more sour and was topped with vinegary onions-- I thought this was a strange addition and not needed. I didn't enjoy that flavor so much. The consistency was the same as last time, but it felt like they gave less. The crispy pork was nicely battered and mochi chewy! My mom said she wasn't a fan of this dish though. We also got the Jajangmyeon: Black Bean Noodles with Meat and Extra Portion of Noodles. We still had a lot of sauce at the end of the bowl so I think another portion would be great but the price is a little much. I really enjoyed the green peas in the bowl because it added vibrancy. The sauce is a little heavy although we were given delicious juicy yellow pickled radish which cut the heaviness down. In addition, we tried the Sweet & Spicy 5 PC Chicken. It was plated beautifully with minimum sauce. I kind of wanted more. There wasn't a crisp, but nice amount of chicken. Visually as I ate it, I did not appreciate the shattered bone. The color and how it just broke -- made me not enjoy it as much. For this reason, I wouldn't get it again. Overall, the service was good. The space is clean and organized and the ordering system was easy-- as it was a tablet. My mom said it was just alright and she only liked the noodles. If we ever go again, I think she'd prefer the soup. Give it a try with friends and see what you think!

Yelp
Parking is tough but the food is on point. It was a surprise how good it was. Ordered the noodles, dumplings and sweet and sour pork. Super yum

Yelp
After watching "Culinary Class Wars" I have been wondering if Paik had any American Restaurants. When she said the name I was had sold on accompanying her to her San Diego. Honestly I was hijacked to join her in a JHOPE BIRTHDAY party with members of the San Diego Bantan Army Fan Club. My cousin and I pulled up into the parking lot. It had many signs for paid parking. It's very confusing because many of the other people parking there didn't know they had to pay as well. The location was easy to find for me. This venue is located to many good restaurants I have frequently in the past. The entrance is makes it appear like it's small. This venue is huge. I honestly couldn't stop telling our waiter how nice the place was and how huge it was. There was a restaurant area which we sat at. Adjoining there is a whole bar and dance floor. They also offer Karaoke nights & have rooms to rent to sing your little heart out. Our waiter was so gracious. He was very accommodating to our party. The food was easy to order with the iPads. Food came out hot & delicious!

Yelp
My sister and I love coming here whenever we're craving Korean food, specifically jjajangmyeon and crispy pork. But this time, we decided to try their spicy stir fried jjampong noodles to pair it with the crispy pork. I never really enjoyed the soup version of jjampong but the stir fried noodles were a hit! You can taste the seafood flavor in the noodles, so savory and spicy (just a little kick)! The yellow radish is a nice cleanser to ease the spice but also a great, refreshing snack! The service is always so kind by checking in on us to ensure we're satisfied, and they refill our waters and yellow radish without question. The space is very open and casual, right next to a karaoke bar so after you eat, you can sing your heart out. Love this place! Also excited they opened one in National City as well!

Yelp
Overall: 3.5/5 Jjampong 3.5/5: For the amount of seafood and portion size, the price is decent. The soup is quite mild, mostly tasting of gochujang and hint of seafood. If you're not a fan of fishy seafood, you probably won't like this. The minute this dish was placed in front of me, a huge whiff of fishiness hit me in the face. I liked this dish though, and would get it again. Tangsuyuk 4/5: I like the chewy, soft exterior which is a stark difference from chinese sweet and sour pork with a crispy outer layer. The sauce is a little sweeter than I like but is mostly balanced out by the sour taste. There are self order tablets on each table so ordering is quite easy. And, the staff is friendly and comes by every now and then to ask how everything is going.
google avatar

Catherine Z.

Yelp
Fantastic and quick service and the food is reasonably priced ($10 for jajangmyeon and $13 for jampong) with huge portion sizes. Both noodle dishes were delicious and flavorful. The jampong also came with a pretty good amount of seafood inside too. The pork was freshly fried and paired perfectly with the sauce Would definitely return again in the future!
google avatar

Soyeon S.

Yelp
This place is connected to the Hive karaoke bar next door. The parking is a little tight on the weekends but the first two hours are free. We enjoyed the jjajangmyun and the sweet & sour pork! The sweet & sour pork had chewy bread coating which made it special compared to the regular ones, and jjajangmyun was a classic. I wouldn't order the jjampong again next time though, as their broth was salty & heavy without much flavor. The service was fast and the server ladies were really nice! I would come back for the pork dish and jjajangmyun.

Yelp
What a satisfying dining experience, as always! My updated review is long overdue due to work and other logistics. Because I have some downtime in the meantime before I return to work, I need to update my review because Paik's Noodle of SD has gained my loyalty as a customer. Per my last review, "If you like a blend of Korean and Chinese food, you need to come and explore this restaurant." And sure indeed, I still stand with my claim. Korean culture values appearance seriously and makes a science from it, especially when it comes to food. Service continues to be fantastic. The interior is clean, modern, and cozy with good music playing in the background. After my first few dining experiences I couldn't resist coming back and ended up trying the rest of their menu. They have expanded their menu to include more protein options such as chicken. In addition, prices are still the same and portions remain generous. Since my last review I have happily and excited to explore: * Meat Jjamppong: This is definitely a must try for meat, seafood, and spicy lovers. This noodle dish consists of fresh noodles in a beef bone broth with plenty of seafood, vegetables, and shredded pork. For $16.95 this is enough food to satisfy several appetites. *Jjamppong: This dish is similar to the Meat Jjamppong, but minus the meat. * Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings: There's no need for you to go to a fried chicken spot. You have the option to select either 5 or 10 pieces. The wings are fried, submerged in a spicy-sweet seasoning sauce. I'll definitely be back to try the Garlic Soy Chicken Wings. * Cream Shrimp: This dish is for non-spicy appetites and consists of fried jumbo size shrimp in a creamy sauce. This is also my top-favorite favorite, besides the Spicy Shrimp dish. * Vegetable Stir-fried Noodles: This is a must-try for vegetable lovers. For only $13.95 you will get a full plate of stir-fried noodles in a special oyster sauce. This is sure enough for 2-3 appetites. * Pro-tip: You can request for no meat when ordering the Stir-fried Jjangmyeon. You just need to inform the server of your preference. With great comfort food at a reasonable price and amazing service, Paik's Noodle is my favorite dining spot. If you're looking for a casual Korean eatery with delicious and unforgettable food, this is definitely the place. Make sure to plan ahead as the place gets busy for many good reasons.

Yelp
Came here with a huge group of 12 people for a weekend lunch and they were able to seat us at Hive. Service was good and food was tasty! I really enjoyed the spicy black bean noodle and thought the noodles were bouncy and flavor was good (not really that spicy tho. I also liked the spicy seafood noodles that my boyfriend got. Beware that portions are huuuge!!!! We also shared a few side entrees like the sweet and sour pork, cream shrimp, and dumplings. Everything was solid!!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome Korean-Chinese spot on Convoy if you're looking for some noodles! Got to try both the jjamppong and jajangmyeon along with some other sides and I would definitely recommend! Especially if you need a place to eat before karaoke at Hive next door like our group did! :) The inside is very long and spacious so our group of 7 had no problem getting a table. Service we pretty quick for being a weekend night when we went but you also order through a tablet so keep that in mind when ordering for multiple people. Overall, solid spot and would come back if I wanted the specific noodles that I tried.

Yelp
Dinner was so yummy tonight! The black bean noodle with meat was so hearty and comforting. The soy garlic chicken wings were super crispy, but tender and moist on the inside. Also got the rice and japchae dish with the sauce. It came with a side of kimchi soup too! All of it was good - except the japchae noodles were over cooked so it was hard to chew off, which is why I docked a star. Other than that, everything was great! Waitress was nice, restaurant is nice bright and clean. You just order on the tablet and they have fast service.

Yelp
This place has been on my list and finally got to try it. Ordered the Jajangmyeon, black bean noodles. The noodles were so chewy and bouncy. The sauce was savory and delicious. You can order regular or spicy. It was close to $11 for a bowl so super affordable! Also got the sweet and sour pork. The sauce is on the side. You can pour or dip. I personally like to dip to keep my meat crispy. Located in convoy. Free parking for the first 120 minutes. Shares a restroom with Hive.

Yelp
Been wanting to try Paiks's and we got to! Ports are big and affordable, which makes it a true gem these days! Got three items to share between two people: Sweet and sour pork, stir fried jjajangmyeon, and jjamppong! I like the stir fry and pork the best. The jjamppong was good but wasn't as flavorful. Your order from the iPads at each table and pay by requesting for the bill through the iPad.

Yelp
This is the best place to get jjajangmyun in SD. It's strange how they put tortilla chips in their kkangppung shrimp. Service has been good and jjajangmyun has been solid every time I've gone. Tangsuyuk is good.Service is quick. Parking is okay but tight in that plaza.

Yelp
I've tried Paik's Noodle twice now and I've enjoyed it both times! Service is very nice and fast and the food is delicious. Both the jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork were so good and this pairing can not be beat! We also ordered a sample size/side of the jjamppong, which for $6, is a really big portion. Their jjamppong has great flavor and is loaded with vegetables and seafood!

Yelp
This restaurant is connected to the bar next door (the hive?). Small-medium sized parking lot. Came on a random weekday so it wasn't crowded at all. Got their flagship dishes: - Jjajangmyeon was well flavored, not too overwhelming or salty (ultimate Asian compliment) - sweet and sour pork was perfectly battered without feeling oily Overall a great experience!

Yelp
Big, clean and spacious environment. Ordering is done by yourself with the tablets on the table. Service is friendly and quick. The black bean noodles are so good, but I think it could have more black bean flavor. It was more mild than I prefer. Seafood soup is delicious as always. Not spicy, really seafood forward, a nice portion to share. The sweet and sour pork is fried perfectly and a great compliment to the entrees. Not exactly like the Paiks flavor that I've tried before in Korea, but recommend if you're craving a delicious big bowl of noodle!

Yelp
Sooo impressed by this place! I love black bean noodles so I was really excited to hear about this new place in convoy. We ordered the spicy stir fry jjangmyeon and the spicy jjangmyeon, then the lemon chicken. Everything tastes sooo good. Definitely spicy if your tolerance is low, I'd go for the regular. I loved the spice though it tasted great with the lemon chicken. I usually go for the sweet and sour pork on the side with black bean noodle but I was super impressed by the chicken. It paired the noodles so well! Also the service is top tier. They are super friendly, serve you water and napkins at all times. It wasn't too busy on a Friday afternoon so I hope they get good business regularly. I feel like the portions are very generous and considerate of the price. Will definitely be back here!

Yelp
Solid spot. Good jjajangmyeon, better than the one inside hmart. Had the meat jjajangmyeon and literally have leftovers for tomorrow. Definitely gonna make some rice and mix it with the leftover veggies + meat. Their jjamppong tho was okay, we got the chili one and it had a decent kick but there was kimchi in it instead of just cabbage. There was also pork in it which jjamppong usually does not have (incase there are people who don't eat pork) The workers here were super nice and deserve 5 stars for their attentiveness. Parking wasn't terrible, it was typical lol. Ambiance was modern and casual. There were a decent amount of people who came in and left while we were there (we took forever to eat) K-pop was playing. Wasn't too loud so I appreciated that. Would love to try the fried pork or the shrimp next time I come with a bigger group.

Yelp
New favorite comfort food joint that leaves me in a food coma every time. Consuming Korean media as a kid got me craving Korean jajangmyeon for decades. I'm glad I finally found a place to fulfill my childhood dreams. Highlights: the original jajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and jjampong. Pros: - Efficient service--you order via an iPad at the table - Relatively large space shared with Hive, I have never had issues finding a table - I love the jajangmyeon here. It has thick and chewy noodles and the black bean sauce is filled with caramelized onions. The tangsuyuk is also delicious and comes with a sweet and sour dipping sauce with carrot shreds, onion, and woodear. I have never had a fried meat like this--it's extremely crispy on the outside without being dry on the inside. I think they coat it in rice paper. fried meat. - They also have jjampong, japchae, and some combos that allow you to have jajang sauce with stir-fried noodles and rice. Cons: -Awful parking situation most of the time - The walls advertise some dishes that unfortunately are not on the menu, which is odd

Yelp
Delicious food! We came around 7pm on a friday night and were immediately seated. There were plenty of tables and looked like a casual restaurant. It was easy to order from the screen, and the food came out very quickly. The servers were very attentive and friendly. We ordered the meat jajangmyeon, meat and seafood jjampong, soy chicken wings and sweet and sour pork! Everything was delicious and flavorful. It wasn't too salty even though the dishes were saucy. I want to try the spicy shrimp next time!

Yelp
I love Paik's noodle and have gone to multiple locations (including the one in Zion Market) and every time their food is just so good. I usually get the Seafood Stir Fried Jajjangmyeon + Tangsuyuk and it hits the spot everytime. The prices are great for the portion sizes as well and we had leftovers to take home. The new parking lot is a bit small and not the best but still worth it to come. The new location is great and super spacious, it seems like the Hive karaoke is right next door and might even share a kitchen. Service was great and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Updated review! We have been a regular customer here for a while now. I am happy to report that their food is better now! The menu is expanded and has many different rice and noodle options. Although most of dishes are simple, they are delicious! Our favorite is their jajangmyeon. For people who enjoy spicy food, I really recommend the spicy jajangmyeon. The rice options are pretty good too. Make sure you browse the menu and check out the combos too, especially if you come with a group. The service is basic. You come in and they will direct you to a table. You browse the menu and place order on the tablet on the table. They will bring you the food and check out when you are done. We like Paik's noodle because it's very reasonably priced for the quality of food they offer. We will continue to come here and be their regular customers!

Yelp
Came here as a party of 2 on a Friday at 7 PM to try Paik's restaurant after watching Culinary Class Wars to see what the hype was about. This is a great place to go to fulfill your black bean noodle cravings! - Parking: semi-difficult especially during peak hours, small plaza and always packed - Ambience: casual, loud, family-friendly - Service: order on tablet and the servers will bring you the food; they're quick and efficient Food - large portions, great bang for your buck -Tangsuyuk: 8/10; crispy, flavorful, and had a well-balanced sweet and sour sauce -Meat Jajangmyeon: 8.5/10; noodles were perfectly chewy, and the black bean sauce was rich and savory. Incredible amount of meat. A must-try! -Jjamppong: 8.2/10; spicy, hearty, and packed with seafood and veggies - Summary: affordable option for casual Korean food and you'll have plenty of leftovers. I've been here twice already and have no plans of stopping. Please give this restaurant a try!

Yelp
Raise your hand if you came here after watching Culinary Class Wars on Netflix! XD Came here to support Chef Paik! When I heard about how this place was opening in San Diego, I was so excited to try! They have hugeee portions here so definitely a good place for family style with a large group. I was a bit disappointed though when I stared at the delicious looking photos on the wall and found out that a lot of the items advertised on the walls were not actually available on the menu. Not sure if this is because they just opened? Willing to give them another try a bit later on because a lot of items looked delish! Came with a group of 5 and got to try a good amount of things: - Stir fried jajangmyeon: HUGE portion :D lots of meats and the sauce was amazing - Jjamppong: Good amount of spice to this, definitely a hearty soup - Sweet and sour pork: Love the batter of this! Super light and airy, sauce comes on the side which you can pour over or dip. The sauce is a light, tangy type sauce that compliments the fried pork really well - Cream shrimp: highly recommend! Basically a honey walnut shrimp sauce coating but less creamy and you can appreciate the delicious airy batter more! - Chili Shrimp: also highly recommend! This was my favorite thing here! It was a good combo of salty, sweet, and spicy! - Potstickers: just your average potsticker, wouldn't order this again Located in same plaza as Axe Throwing so the parking is very limited! Its literally connected to Hive so you can basically hear all the music and it can get loud! I would recommend parking over at Hmart and walking over especially at peak times.

Yelp
Paik's Noodle and Hive Karaoke are right next to each other, and owned by the same owner. I saw an advertisement in the restaurant that mentioned you can receive 50% off one hour of Hive Karaoke with your Paik's Noodle receipt from Sundays through Thursdays. This place would be perfect for hangouts with friends who love to eat and sing! I came here for dinner with a friend. We decided to share two dishes: 1. Stir-fried Jajangmyeon ($19.95): stir-fried noodles with shrimp, squid, and vegetables in black bean sauce. This was delicious, and the noodles had a nice chewy texture. It came with a good amount of shrimp, squid, and veggies. The overall portion was pretty large, and we ended up having leftovers to take home! It reheated well the next day. 2. Spicy Shrimp ($19.95): fried shrimp with spicy and sour sauce. This was perfectly fried, and still had an amazing crunch even though it was coated in the sauce. The service was quick and efficient. You order off a restaurant touch screen, and the food arrives pretty quickly. I like how the water cups are pre-chilled to keep the water cold during your meal. The servers also stopped by to bring us more water and napkins, as well as to check to see how everything is going. I'd definitely return to this restaurant!

Yelp
The interior of the restaurant is very clean and nice. Upon walking in, the server immediately greeted us and brought us to our table. We appreciate how they gave us cold cups, so the water is nice & refreshing. Overall, this is a great place to stop by for a quick & easy meal! * Meat Jajangmyeon - 8.7/10 (i really like the flavor of the sauce, it is very savory & paired well with the pork. the meat itself was super tender & the portion was very big. i thought the texture of the noodles were just okay, i wish they were more chewy like Yuyu Zazang. i think the perfect jajangmyeon would be this meat one & the chili one combined. ~jerm) * Chili Jajangmeyeon - 9/10 (the chili flavor & sauce is very aromatic. the kick from the spiciness of the peppers really elevates the black bean sauce. the noodles have the perfect chewy texture. one of the best black bean noodles i have ever had, & i would get this chili one again. the pork is also cooked well & has a lot of flavor. the portion is big & very affordable! ~tine) * Sweet & Soup Pork - 6/10 (we thought it was fried really well & the sweet & sour sauce was good, but the pork itself was flavorless & dry. you can definitely skip this one)

Yelp
I've had Paik's Noodle up in Santa Clara and so I was super excited to see this new-ish store open up. Inside, the ambiance is a bit lackluster with not much going on, but that's alright since the food is here is super delicious. You order via an iPad at each table and the food came out really quickly after we ordered. Service throughout our meal was very quick and friendly! The Black Bean Noodles (Jajangmyeon) were amazing! I love the both the slight spice and sweetness of the dish which compliments well with the more savory-forward dish. A unique dish if you haven't had something like this before; definitely recommend trying it. We also got the Jjampong which is more of a seafood noodle dish with some spice. Super flavorful and very comforting! Both these dishes and the overall menu seem more on the comfort-food-side and I love it for that. They do them so well and I can always count on Paik to hit the spot whenever I'm craving some great Korean comfort food.

Yelp
Parking is atrocious... Be warned. I came around 1 pm on a Sunday and the wait wasn't too bad. It seems they split Hive in half to make a space for this restaurant. It's clean and spacious and serviced was pretty quick. Everything on the menu looked really good - it was hard to decide what to get! I'm always a sucker for spice so I went with the chili jajangmyeon. Boy did it have a kick! It was very flavorful and the pickled radishes they provided helped a lot. I would definitely come again. I didn't realize it had multiple locations. Anddd the fact that it was created by Jong Won Paik - one of the judges in Culinary Class Wars on Netflix!!

Yelp
QUICK TAKE// Very delicious Jajangmyeon, but would recommend the CHILI one! FOOD// As it was my first time here, just got the JAJANGMYEON. Very delicious, thick and flavorful sauce on these noodles! My friend got the CHILI JAJANGMYEON which I liked more than the regular - so would recommend that instead. Unlimited yellow pickled radishes too . I can't wait to try the jjamppong next time I'm here. SERVICE// Pretty quick and streamlined! You order through a touch screen device. VIBES// Clean restaurant that is contemporary and simple. ETC// Parking lot can get a little busy since there are a few other entertainment/food establishment businesses in the lot, so plan accordingly to assume you may need to spend time finding parking.

Yelp
I had a craving to try authentic Korean jiajiangmyeon and this place did not disappoint. It's bright and spacious inside and adjacent to a big karaoke place and bar. You order via high tech displays at your table. Prices are very reasonable. Service is no frills efficient as you would expect when self ordering. Too bad you can't pay your check at the display too. The noodles were a plentiful helping heaped with a slightly sweet umami black bean sauce. Lots of food in the basic version. I'll be back to try it with extra pork next time.

Yelp
Another Culinary Class Wars follower excited to check out Chef Paik's restaurant! We came early on a weekday (before crazy Convoy parking lot traffic) and were seated right away. Ordering is convenient through an iPad with plenty of photos of menu items. I loved that there was even an option to request boxes, utensils, water (temp specific), etc. The food came pretty quickly and in LARGE PORTIONS. For two people, we went home with a lot of leftover food (jajongmyeon & jjamppong). Given the greasiness, we wish we'd ordered a protein with just one noodle item instead. Waiting for the boxes took a while. Overall - a casual, cost effective place to go if you are looking to fill some cravings for Korean food.
