Where to try poke, a Hawaiian fish favorite, in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

Me and my siblings came here for the first time and bought all flavors except strawberry. as they were sold out but they were all delicious. The matches tasted more of chocolate than anything else however. But highly recommend and the doughnuts are easy to share and hit that sweet spot. Will comeback to try the poke bowls! 😋

Google
This was my first time trying Poke in Vegas! Paina Cafe was recommended to me by a few friends and it did not disappoint. I got the Nanea Salmon with spicy tuna and a Spam Musubi. The taste of the poke was delicious and very good quality. I’ve never had masago before, but I loved it and it added such a great flavor to the bowl! Very filling meal too for the price. The Spam Musubi was simple, but still good! I got delivery and the food was still hot and good when it arrived! Will be ordering from here again (:

We only tried the Hawaiian donuts and tarts, but they were very good, and the food menu looks good as well.

Tucked away in a picturesque corner, Paina Cafe proudly boasts the title of being the Home of the Original Poke Bowl, creating an ambiance of island hospitality and genuine culinary expertise reminiscent of the Hawaiian shores. While celebrated for its freshly crafted poke, available in a variety of delectable styles, my recent trip led me to forgo the seafood options in favor of their equally enticing plate lunches. What ensued was an enchanting journey through flavors that reaffirmed the cafe's standing as a purveyor of not just poke, but a diverse array of mouthwatering island-inspired dishes. My choice was the Bento Box #15, a culinary gem that arrived with an alluring trio of flavors—garlic chicken, teriyaki beef, and Portuguese sausage—each meticulously presented alongside a generous serving of fluffy white rice, delicately adorned with a sprinkle of furikake. The garlic chicken, tender and glistening, boasted a crispy exterior that yielded a succulent, full-flavored core, infused with just the right hint of garlic, perfectly balancing its richness. It was a dish that evoked comfort, a harmonious blend of indulgence and familiarity, reminiscent of a homely meal taken to new culinary heights. The teriyaki beef, exquisitely succulent and marinated to perfection, offered a delightful interplay of sweet and savory, its caramelized glaze and melt-in-your-mouth texture delivering a burst of umami with each delectable bite. Paired with the robust Portuguese sausage, which contributed a smoky, subtly spicy dimension to the bento, the meal unfolded as a symphony of flavors, showcasing the diverse and vibrant tastes of the islands. The rice, adorned with furikake, served as the ideal canvas for these bold flavors. Its delicate, slightly crunchy topping—a medley of sesame seeds, seaweed, and other seasoning—introduced a nuanced texture and umami essence that harmonized beautifully with the proteins, uniting the entire meal in a delightful equilibrium. The ambiance at Paina Cafe is nothing short of welcoming, exuding an aura of warmth where simplicity meets comfort. Whether relishing in their renowned poke or savoring a hearty bento box like mine, the experience is enhanced by the serene and hospitable setting. The clean, thoughtfully designed interior, coupled with the amiable and proficient staff, ensures that each visit feels like a brief escape to an island oasis. In conclusion, my visit to Paina Cafe was a testament to their culinary expertise extending beyond the realm of poke. The bento box was an enchanting revelation, with each element meticulously prepared and brimming with flavor. Whether you're an aficionado of their poke bowls or embarking on a culinary journey through their plate lunches for the first time, Paina Cafe stands as an essential destination for anyone craving authentic island flavors and a gratifying dining experience.

Paina Cafe brings a true taste of the islands to Vegas. As the 9th Island, this place doesn’t just serve food—it offers an experience. The vibe is laid-back, welcoming, and filled with the warmth of aloha. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down to enjoy a meal, it feels like you’ve stepped into a piece of Hawaii. My go-to dish here is the Spicy Tuna Crunch, and it never disappoints. The flavors are packed with that perfect balance of spicy, savory, and fresh. The tuna is rich and flavorful, while the crunch adds a satisfying texture that keeps me coming back for more. It’s the perfect combo that hits the spot every time, and honestly, it’s always a treat I look forward to. What I really love about Paina Cafe is the consistency. Whether I’m in a rush for a quick lunch or have a few minutes to sit down and enjoy, I can count on them to deliver fresh, flavorful food. It's my go-to spot for a grab-and-go treat that feels a bit more special than your average lunch. If you're in Vegas and want something that feels like a taste of home with bold island flavors, Paina Cafe should definitely be on your radar.

Had an amazing experience with Chris and Ariana! Super nice and helpful people! I ordered a poke church bowl and I didn’t like the sauce and told Chris and Ariana and they said they would totally swap it out for something else! They deserve a raise! Lol 😂 🤙🏻

Google
Good spot. Created my own Poke bowl. My wife had #1. Both good... Quick healthier eats. Definitely better than fast food! My wife goes here often, my first time. I will definitely go back and try different options! Prices are bad either, so I think I'll eat here more often!

Google
Best poke & pork bowls in town, with ube mochi donuts, spam masubi (with seasoned riced) and more! The staff is always so nice, the quality has been consistent for years and the food has great replay value!!

Yelp
BEST POKE IVE EVER EATEN! and I usually dislike raw fish, BUT NOT PAINA! I order Paina Bowls, and omg... their poke never disappoints. It's not fishy tasting at all. The way they marinate their fish tastes delicious, and the texture of the fish is so tender. On top of that is when you eat their bowls fresh, the rice is hot and pairs perfectly with the poke! the rice is so important for this bowl, it's fluffy, its soft, and it's a little moist to make the perfect spoonful! Most places I've been, they make the rice really dry and it ruins the dish. Th service is what is expected. The workers are all nice and relaxed there. And the food comes out pretty fast. The ambience is casual, makes me feel like I'm in Hawaii! This place is great for breakfast/lunch or get it to-go ! :D I will be returning more and more! Thank you for existing Paina !

Yelp
Pretty good for the price. I've actually been coming here for years and can't believe I've never reviewed here. I really like their #6. I order it without sauces or light sauces. Honestly the idea of teriyaki glaze on poke sounded strange to me cause I'm not a huge sauce person but it tastes good when not overdone. Their spam musubi is pretty good here too and I like that it's kept warm. I also like their mochi doughnuts. It's great that they're not too sweet. One thing I'll take stars for is that their fish quality isn't always the best. I've been put off a couple times when I get a piece of tuna that's too fishy. I have a sensitivity to smells and tastes so that kind of thing usually makes me stop coming for a while. (Hope you guys can work on that ) On the times that it's good, it's really good though.

Yelp
The salmon poke was cut so huge and the taste wasn't as I expected- 2stars Ahi spicy Tuna poke was good
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Food is consistently delicious! The cashier with the septum piercing may benefit from additional training or a reevaluation of their role. I've rarely encountered someone who lacks a sense of urgency during peak hours. Regardless of whether you're serving one person or a group, it's important to engage with guests, even amidst a bustling environment.

Yelp
Decided to stop here for lunch today and wanted to try something different. So I ordered the Ahi Katsu. The Ahi was marinated in sweet shoyu ginger and then topped with teriyaki sauce. It was delicious, but some of my Ahi Katsu was overcooked. It was so dry and chewy. Kind of like jerky style. A little disappointed cause I was REALLY hungry. Ended up getting a burger at McDonald's cause I was still hungry.
google avatar

Yelp
Kewalo bowl is my favorite! Fresh and delicious poke bowl. All the flavors are popping! Service was great. Only concern was it was freezing inside. Maybe the heater isn't working?
google avatar

Bethany T.

Yelp
Dakine Bowl is bomb. Its crispy garlic chicken with your choice of poke. I got salmon, and it was soo tasty and larger portions. The spicy tuna inari is devine and dangerous. I could eat 100 of these without any help. Sweet and spicy and easy to eat! I got here before they closed and i was very happy to know that theyll make Inari to order. I also got an order of Ube tarts, and let me tell you, these bad boys are light, delicate, and delicious! The ube has a nutty but vanilla ish flavor. i dont know, honestly, but they are bomb. Im in an uncomfortable food coma while i write this, and i regret nothing!

Yelp
Been going here for a few years whenever we're in Vegas. The poke is always tasty. We mostly get the salmon and spicy tuna (Paina bowl). The pickled onions with the salmon bowl really add to the dish. Brown rice is an option and tastes better than many other brown rice I've had. Mochi donuts are great! Prices have recently gone up, but they're still better than many other places. A favorite is the taro - the whole donut has the flavor, not just the icing on the top like some places. Service is always good for us and there's enough seating if you want to eat there, too. Cute place with a restroom for customers.
google avatar

Nikki M.

Yelp
Cute little shop with amazing food. Their mochi donuts are so soft and chewy, truly addicting. Husband said it's the best he's ever had. Each donuts cost $2.30 or $25 for a dozen which is reasonable. Also tried their poke bowl for the first time. I think it's pretty pricy for the such a small portion ($12+) but it was so delicious. I had the ahi crunch bowl and loved every bite. Their spam musubi was also a huge hit for my daughter. This was the perfect place for our family since it had something everyone loved. Customer service could be a little more welcoming and cheerful. Overall, we enjoyed the food and will come back again on our next Vegas trip.

Yelp
Reading through the menu is a chore because of how the ingredients are listed for each option. So, I found it easier to order from the make-your-own menu. Also, because I'm vegan. I ordered a large poke bowl with brown rice, sweet chili tofu, garlic chips, pickled onions, green onion, and shredded nori. I bypassed the Japanese toppings that I wasn't familiar with: natto, taegu, takuan, masago. I also wanted to be selective, since the toppings add $0.70 each to your order. The bowl was very good, despite being cooked with a liberal amount of oil. We ate here during a peak time, with only two people working: a cashier and a cook. So, the orders were bottlenecked, resulting in a significant wait. The food was worth the wait, and the service was good. The vibe was casual, with some dining in, and others ordering takeout. The business is well patronized.

Yelp
Paina cafe is a hidden gem. I used to visit this place exclusively for the mochi donuts. They are incredible. If you are looking to try mochi donuts, look no further. When I finally decided to try their poke bowls I was so upset that I had no tried them sooner. The fish and toppings are mouthwatering. I don't think I've had a poke bowl as delicious as the ones served at Paina. My favorite thing to order is the Paina bowl and the Poke crunch bowl. The spicy tuna in it is delicious! The customer service is decent. You order at the register and come pick it up from the front when it's ready. There is plenty of seating. Overall, Paina cafe is an amazing spot to grab a meal and finish it off in the best way possible. With a donut.
google avatar

Yelp
Super fresh and delicious poke! I got the Paina Bowl with spicy tuna and added avocado. It was incredible. I also tried this chocolate brownie mochi donut for the first time and it was so good. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Onolish grindz! Chill island vibes! Good prices! Lots of aloha in the service! Food made me tryum! Small comforts of home keep me coming back! (Not to mention the cute short haired brunette girl working the counter is easy on da eyes! "Hello there!" Yeah I mentioned you lol!) Deceiving portions look small, but fill you up into a chillaxing kanack-attack lol! I usually don't make it to the broke-da-mouth mochi donuts lol! Good to see another Hawaiian food establishment reaching out past only local people and getting da luv it deserves! Will always be a go-to stop as long as I live in Vegas! Tried, proven, & recommended! Mahalo guys! #9thislandaloha.

Yelp
I ordered the garlic chicken, spam, and cookie & cream donut. They were all so delicious! I would come back again.

Yelp
Quality food for great prices. The menu definitely has a lot of flavor and we really feel like home when we indulge in their Ono food. My favorite here is the Ahi Katsu and we really like the Chocolate Chantilly tarts. Good Customer Service.
google avatar

Kimi S.

Yelp
Great value in poke bowls. Lots of fish to rice ratio. Yummy complimentary add ons. Great flavor in the salmon ginger poke. I added natto to the bowl which made it over the top for me! Service was fast, friendly. Best texture of Mochi donuts of the ones I've tried, the topping wasn't too sweet either. Great balance. We wanted to try the ube cheesecake without ordering a whole pie, so got the tarts and shared with friends. Everyone loved them. The ube filling was rich in flavor and smooth in texture. The shortbread crust was perfect, buttery, great chew. Worth the stop!

Ono G.

Yelp
What a nice treat to have a quality build your own poke bowl spot in Vegas. Fresh fish, brown rice an option, nice toppings, wonderful mochi donut, didn't break the bank.

Yelp
First time trying the Inari bombs and das da one ! One bento will come with 5 Inari bombs. Service is great! When I had called ahead I asked if they sell out of the Inari bombs, but they said they can always make more. You walk in and the sound of reggae music makes you feel like you back on da islands it's nice and simple. Definitely will be coming back again for da bomb.

Yelp
It's been awhile, Pa'ina Cafe, but I sure missed you! I had a mochi donut craving this morning so I went and did it! Paina Cafe is a little bit of a drive, but I am happy to report it was worth it. The mochi donuts are just as wonderful as I remember and I couldn't resist a few more goodies. I also picked up a Pa'ina Roll slice and a 6pk of guava haupia tarts. The star of the show is still the mochi donuts for me. I will have to go a little later next time so I can also order some poke. Their poke bowls are fresh and mouthwatering. Aloha is always served here! You can check out their IG acct if you want to know the donut flavors of the week. You can also order online from there so it's ready for you to pick up.

Ronnie L.

Yelp
The best poke in Vegas, great customer service. Food is amazing! Front cashier I think her name is Kanoi, is very patient, has a great smile and personality. Will be back, due to great service and food! Highly recommended
google avatar

CJ L.

Yelp
Very dull and dark when entering. I didn't feel the aloha spirit lol it was just order and awkward silence. The space is pretty open and big. They offer pokè, plates like chicken katsu. Next time I visit I'll have to try the plate meals. I came because of the yelp reviews's of the mochi donuts which I'm a huge fan. I ordered taro, strawberry, cookies and cream and chocolate brownie. For texture I'll give a 10. For the strawberry flavor it was alright so I'll give a 6 for taste. For chocolate brownie 10 packed with chocolate and taste was impeccable. Taro I'll rate a 9 for taste. Cookies and cream a 9 as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Paina cafe has severely gone down hill and they're now serving DANGEROUS fish that has turned bad. I do not write this review lightly since it is my go to spot for poke bowls but the last 3 times I've been here it's been progressively worse and worse. The most recent time 2 days ago I received 2 salmon poke bowls where the salmon was just complete mush you try to pick it up with a fork and it just crumbles apart then I noticed the smell. I alerted the store and they will not replace the poke bowls unprofessional management. The health department needs to check this place out because you can't fool around with raw fish.
google avatar

Judy U.

Yelp
Normally this place would always hit the spot and it usually does, except for today! Ordered some desserts (variety tarts) and spam musubi. Two large Crunch Bowl. Your choice if poke. Served with our special teri glaze blend, shredded nori, topped with crispy tempura flakes. I chose Hawaiian ahi and spicy tuna with garlic chips. My brother ordered the same but with Shoyu Ahi and spicy tuna. They were lacking so much flavor.. they did not have the special teri glaze, no shredded nori. You can see it the photos and video i took today. It was busy but it wasn't crazy busy where you would forget important ingredients. My brother came back home from being away with work loves Paina and was craving it. So this trip was extremely disappointed. ** Update; Had the spam musubi because i bought 5 for my family. They were all overly salty.. so gross. It never used to be like but i have no idea what happened to Paina. The only thing great today was their dessert. Variety tarts with ube, guava, and chantilly with chocolate. Delicious and must try for sure. Very disappointed in the food today.
google avatar

Yelp
The mochi donuts are always a hit with everybody. They are so light that you can probably eat a few and then still crave more. The ladies who work here are very friendly and it's always fun to see what kind of flavors they have.
google avatar

Dominic P.

Yelp
This is my favorite spot to eat poke when ever I visit Vegas! My fiancé is Hawaiian and loves this spot as well as it tastes like legit Hawaiian poke on Kauai. The service is great and prices are reasonable! Their fish is always fresh and you can't go wrong with any of their bowls or plate lunches. My personal favorite is the poke crunch bowl with spicy tuna. They also make some of the best mochi donuts in town, and bake them fresh every morning (be sure to go early they sell out of flavors quick!)
google avatar

Nathalie H.

Yelp
Omg, Mochi donuts are delicious!! tried a few flavors all great!. Don't think you can go wrong with any!.
google avatar

Angel G.

Yelp
If you never had mochi donuts, come to this place! They have the best mochi donuts in Las Vegas. The mochi donuts are so soft and each flavor tastes amazing. The place just feels like a bakery and they have a couple seats inside in case you want to dine in. The service is very nice. I needed two dozen spam musubis and they already had them prepared so I didn't have to wait too long to get them on such short notice. Next time I go, I want to try some poke bowls!
google avatar

Leticia P.

Yelp
Busy - so gives you time to review food menu and mochi donut flavors. They have most of the local Hawaiian favorites plus Inari bento. They have pies and mini tarts.
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Paina is my favorite place to grab poke! The quality is consistently good, the staff is kind, and the service is quick. My go-to item is the crunchy poke bowl with spicy tuna. The combination of the special teri glaze blend and spicy sauce is so flavorful. And the crunchy tempura flakes are a nice bonus. Paina mochi donuts are the best in town, in my opinion of course! I recommend checking this place out for the high quality food and tasty treats.
google avatar

Sonia P.

Yelp
Service has definitely changed. Comes with a side of attitude unfortunately. the poke was not fresh. But the mochi is good
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try the Fried Saimin here, and that's exactly what I did. Added the garlic chicken for protein. The Fried Saimin more like chow mein. There was a bit more sauce than I was hoping for. The Garlic Chicken was deep-fried and tough. Oh well. On my way out, I grabbed a Spam Musubi and a Mini Guava Haupia Tarts (6 pcs) for GF. Both are very good. I'll stick to the pastries from now on. A clean store pleasant staff, and good Hawaiian toons!
google avatar

Emma F.

Yelp
Service was amazing! Every employee was friendly. The food was delicious! First time here and I will def be back. They also have mochi donuts for dessert and they are also very delicious. Hawaiian music vibes were great!
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
It's all fun and games until you take a bite out of your first mochi donut. Fortunately for me I had my first mochi donut as a child living in Hawaii but most of my friends I introduce these donuts to are adults, and it's their first time! Then again, Paina Cafe succeeds at maintaining not only the taste of the mochi I had as a kid but the atmosphere is there too. One of the more fascinating things about Paina Cafe is that they open the restaurant hours early just to sell mochi donuts. If you're there for lunch, they're not ready for you until 11am like your average restaurant but they do open up shop earlier if you're looking for mochi donuts!
google avatar

Jerry M.

Yelp
Always playing good Hawaiian music. Nice clean dining area. Friendly staff mostly from Hawaii so they know the lingo. Food always amazing. some times rice portion is a bit much. A lot of parking.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Very cool local find! This is a Hawaiian restaurant with delicious bowls and mochi donuts. I had the kalua pig bowl and it was reeeaaallllyy good but very straightforward-- just meat and rice. No frills but the kalua pig is done perfectly! Also had the Ube cheesecake mochi donut that was super yummy! They also have spam musubi but they only make one batch every morning and it's first come first served. The lady told us that on weekends it's usually sold out before 10am! Good to know for next time we come back. Overall, awesome place with really good food. Would absolutely recommend and come back!
google avatar

Christian A.

Yelp
Bomb food and great deserts. Had the garlic chicken and the flavor was spot on. The staff is friendly reminds me of the spots back home. Definitely will return to try more.
google avatar

Gerilyn R.

Yelp
Paina cafe has absolutely amazing mochi donuts. I've always been a fan as this place is one of the OG places that made them prior to all of the other mochi shops that had came to town afterwards. My rating is low this time around due to the fact that the salmon I had in my bowl was very fishy! I was unable to finish my meal unfortunately which made me very sad because I had spent around $17 for a poke bowl craving, that was no longer satisfied. Other than that, I really do enjoy coming here and the aloha that they give aside from the fish being bad this day. I hope to come back again in the future and have a better experience with my favorite fish!
google avatar

Sue T.

Yelp
Mochi donuts here are the best I've ever had in my life. They don't have a gross aftertaste and they come in the cutest box ever. The mini glazed one and cookies and cream are my absolute favorite
google avatar

Lillia T.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good food! It was worth the visit while visiting Las Vegas! We will come back again!

Yelp
We've never tried mochi donuts before, but we are officially FANS. If you've not tried one, fret not, these are the best of the best.... How do we know? Besides devouring them in the car after getting them, we opted to try another bakery's flavors later the same day and trust me - Paina wins. The season flavors were amazing and the chewiness of a mochi donut is almost like a hybrid of Brazilian bread and a Krispy Kreme yeast donut..... it's delightful. The flavor is mostly in the frosting I'm guessing... it's subtle but tasty. I love how each little ball can be a "bite" of its own - but don't try to share a single donut, it doesn't seem to work as someone is too slow and only gets a few nibbles (unfair). These are truly so tasty that you should plan on 2-3 per person because the first one is usually just the initial experience of the delightful mystery, after that one, you're diving in because they're delicious. We will be back at least 4 more times this week alone!

Yelp
This low key restaurant serves wonderful food. The plain walls and Formica tables and plastic tableware make you wonder about the food, but everyone thought their dinners were delicious. Their specialty is Hawaiian Poke...a plastic bowl with rice (white or brown), a choice of several meats & seafood, and a multitude of sauces, vegetables & toppings. Quite a few are Hawaiian and unfamiliar to most Americans, but very tasty. Plan to spend time asking about the foods choices. For some reason, the restaurant was very cold at 61 degrees.

Ruta L.

Yelp
BENTO Box is my favorite meal here. Worth the "bang" for your money.!!! Last year July 2023 I had Paina Cafe cater our son's wedding. The food was just like when we order. Never disappointed. So I've been coming here for a while now. The beef/steak has changed. I like the other teri steak they use to serve in the Bento Box. It was easier to "chew". The piece they serve now is too tough. Needs to be tenderized. Just my opinion which WONT stop my from coming again & again. Alofa's Lilo's

Aile R.

Yelp
The place could look a little better considering the high prices... I got 6 donuts a poke bowl, and I had ordered some tuna on the side but was given this stinky pico de Gallo instead. I think it was moldie, I'm not sure. The donuts weren't that great, to be honest. I've had better.

Kili I.

Yelp
Beware of the garlic chicken. You might get a little oil with your food. I had ordered noodles with garlic chicken. They had prepared teriyaki chicken instead. Asked to remake what I ordered and this is what I received. Giving 3 stars cause I also got a crunch bowl and it was delicious. My daughter ended up eating it all since the noodles were inedible.
google avatar

Jenalyn C.

Yelp
My fav is always the Poke crunch bowl. Their poke never fails me and it feels like home (Hawaii). We also love the mochi donuts and appreciate how the flavors change often. When the Hubzie asks me which flavor we want I always reply with "one of each". It's like opening up a box of chocolates and never knowing what you'll get. Love that element of surprise. It's also always the one thing we love bringing to parties that are non Hawaii people. They always end up asking, "mmmm... where are these donuts from?" Yes, it's that good. The only thing I wish would change are the store hours. Sometimes we don't make it in time before closing. So during those moments we are left a little bummed.

Yelp
I paid $17 for this bowl. But this avocado is not acceptable. I come here a lot for mochi donuts. I love this place. But please make sure you guys still provide quality food. Thank you

Yelp
Got a large catering order and everything was done to perfection. The garlic chicken, noodles. and the teriyaki beef were delicious will definitely be back and highly recommended.

Yelp
Total hidden gem! I love venturing out of crowded popular places, plazas and towns. Stopped by here after the market nezt door and one of the best mochinuts I have had. When it first got popular in LA, i tried a few places it I just didn't care for it. I prefer the fluffy glazed donuts and having a dense mochi in a donut just didn't do it. Gave this place a try and i am hooked! They maintained the fluffiness of a regular glazed donut yet has a slight mochi texture. They also have many different flavors. We got 4 different flavors and they were all delicious!! Totally coming back and trying all the other flavors next time!! Small little place that is well kept and clean. Cashier/employee was very patient with us as were indecisive with all the yummy flavors they got. Price is reasonable as its about the cost of all the other places I have tried except this seriously taste way better! Its a huge plaza with plenty of parking also

Yelp
Delicious mochi donuts gifted to us by a very dear Hawaiian friend! These are so amazing, they're light, full of flavor and that mochi comes straight through in every delicious bite!!! Definitely cannot wait to try more flavors!

BRUH.. Straight FIRE. You literally can't go wrong with anything you order here. You will develop an addiction to the mochi donuts, and every day will become a cheat day in their presence. No regrets.
