On the Grid : Paines Skatepark

"Only 15 years after the city banned Love Park, Philly finally comes correct w/ our first skate plaza. If your hesh or tech, There's something for everyone. People watchers & joggers take breaks from the path to watch the skating & sometimes guys w/shopping carts push through selling water & beers. Prime real estate too, situated right along the beautiful Schuylkill River bike path right behind the art museum." - Radlands

Pretty big skatepark with lots of stuff. The flow isn’t great and the random strips of brick on the ground get annoying.

This skatepark is pretty dope i must say plus the people are not to bad during the daytime to sunset but once that sun goes down it turns into a pretty sketchy place. I'm not saying don't go there at night because it's definately one of the only spots to hang out, be super loud and best of all its a fairly easy to continue drinking past 2am if your 21, right? Whatever! Luv it and keep it clean.

Nice skateboard park in Philadelphia seems to get pretty busy with a lot of skateboarders out there on nice days. It’s great that the city has put this here to allow skateboarders a place to ride since they’ve been kicked out of most parks Edit 5/23/22 - I was going out riding the trail today and they were having a skate competition. Got some good photos!

Great to see families and locals of all ages out skateboarding on a summer Sunday. The grafitti park is next to the Schuylkill River trail and tucked behind the Art Museum. It's a good place to learn how to skateboard--there are 3 different skateboarding areas with ramps and pipes. There is an Indego bike station next to the park to make it easier to get to.

It was a great park to learn to skate or just have fun. Everyone there was respectful and gave each other enough distance

Paine’s Park is a dynamic and inclusive skatepark nestled along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, adjacent to the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art. Opened in 2013, it’s not just a haven for skateboarders but a mixed-use public space that embodies the city’s commitment to recreational and cultural activities. The park features elements reminiscent of the beloved Love Park, catering to skaters of all skill levels, while also serving as a picturesque spot for visitors to relax and enjoy the urban landscape. With its robust schedule of events, including contests and demos, Paine’s Park is a testament to Philadelphia’s vibrant community spirit and its embrace of skateboarding as a vital part of the city’s social fabric.

Yelp
This skatepark near the Art Museum was conceived in 2002, and brought to fruition in 2013. It was made from unutilized space, and is now accessible from another city project, the Schuylkill River Trail. I saw kids get on Regional Rail in the 'burbs, and be able to access this park via Schuylkill River Trail from 30th Street Station. It was great to see this so available to urban and suburban kids alike. I didn't see any posted rules, so I assume this was okay, but a group of kids on bikes were occupying one area, doing various tricks, while two other noticeable areas were available for skateboarders. It was very fun to watch everyone doing their stuff. There is graffiti all over the ramps and flat space. It is contained to the skatepark, so I'm guessing they gave a paint party to make it look authentic? Either that or our city graffiti artists are respectful of trail vs skatepark boundaries. My only complaint was it seemed overgrown. There are no grass patches growing through cracks in pavement or anything like that (I saw no cracks anyway), but the planting beds were straggly, and just really overcrowded with uncultivated sapling trees and weeds as big as bushes. If it were spring, allergies would be going haywire. All in all a great use of greenspace. It's just really in need of landscapers.
