"This High Street restaurant serves both Guatemalan and Mexican cuisine. The tacos al pastor are seasoned perfectly, and come served Tex–Mex style (with cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream) or served simply and more traditionally with cilantro and onions. Paisanos is open for indoor dining, takeout, and delivery to Waltham, Newton, and Watertown (delivery minimum $10)." - Samer Khudairi

Google
Tried the meat tacos and they were delicious! The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the portion was just right. Great spot for a casual meal. Will definitely be back to try more!

Charles Cramer

Google
Delicious Guatemalan food! Great service. Very reasonable price. Generous portions.

Google
Food standard flavor, price over price for the serving, Dinner for 2 $76.55 i always left the tip on cash any place I go. After I tipped in cash Your staff charged my credit card car with an extra tip see be over charged. That is unacceptable

Christopher Sharpin

Google
Let me start out by saying the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The food and atmosphere are mild to say the least. The salsa and chips were good, the queso was mild in flavor and could’ve used some red and green chili peppers. The birria tacos were mild in flavor and the broth had very little to write home to momma about. To be honest I think children will love this place because of the lack of seasoning and spices. The food is fine but they seem to take very little risk with seasoning and flavor, even the frozen strawberry margarita was just ok.

Valerie Viengngeune

Google
Delicious! The fried pork and the steak platter mix with veggies are to die for. The margaritas was good. It gets pretty busy during the weekend the bar is almost always full. The service was not up to par. We were missing a dish and we never got our hot sauce.

Liliana Rodriguez

Google
Came in on Sunday. Was pretty busy. We ordered the caldo de pata, pupusas, and micheladas. They were all fantastic. Food is authentic guatemalen food. Home made and fresh. Great combo for a recovery sunday 🤩

Google
Quick service. Good food and the variety of drink options is great.

Monique Taylor

Google
We got the bacon wrapped scallops, shrimp scampi and pork chop special with fresh grilled pineapple. Everything was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Our waitress Sam was delightful and full of energy. We will be back!

Rachel M.

Yelp
Service was good! Chips were delicious and home made! I was hoping this would be an authentic hole in the wall and I was wrong. Food tasted very Americanized - down to the lettuce and sliced tomato in the burrito. Others in my group loved their meal but I was expecting more flavor

Jennine T.

Yelp
Was this place once an Italian restaurant? I grew up in Waltham, and I kind of remember my friend's dad owning this place as an Italian restaurant back in the 90s. . . but, maybe I'm wrong. It's a fuzzy memory from homeroom. I'm glad it's Mexican and Guatemalan now. It's really delicious and very fun. We've eaten here a million times. I enjoy the house margarita and we liked the horchata. We've had the nachos and pupusa -- those are my favorite. However, all their saucy dishes -- wet burrito, enchiladas with mole, so good. I just wish they didn't use Styrofoam for takeout. . . yuck.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Pupusas are still amazing. Their Tacos Mexicanos are so tasty and they're only $2.99 each--can't beat it!!

Barbara O.

Yelp
The food was very tasty and the service was great. I'll definitely go back. We tried the bean and cheese pupas, the Churrasco and the Pollo Asado. All were well prepared and very tasty.

Carl B.

Yelp
Don't know what happened over the last 9 months...this was our go to place for margaritas and genuine Mexican food for years. Sadly the quality of which has really gone down hill, doubtful we'll be back. The fruit margaritas taste like fruit juice with the bare minimum of alcohol, even their premium margaritas are not as good as they were in the past. Went there 6 months ago and was not at all impressed, gave it another try yesterday, which was in all probability out last visit Cocktails were mediocre at best...to get even close to a decent margarita, had to purchase an extra shot of tequila. The guac used to be fantastic, smooth, creamy, and yummy....yesterday was lumpy, bland and room temperature, at $11.99, ended up throwing 70% of it away. Meals were ok, wet burritos were ok, but not like in the past, mole just wasn't as good, very bland, overall disappointing. Don't know what's going on, place wasn't that busy, wanted to enjoy cocktails and dinner out on the porch, food and service just weren't up to par. Sad that after many years as loyal customers, we'll be looking to take our Mexican cravings elsewhere. I do hope the management team wakes up, before they drive this once great local establishment into the ground.

Yelp
Great service is good food friendly atmosphere ,If you like authentic Mexican and Guatemalan food this is the place

Edward G.

Yelp
This restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Starving one night looking for a place to eat, I happened by and this place caught my eye. Decided to go in and check it out. Got seated right away. The staff was excellent and courteous and very attentive. The food was top notch!! The enchiladas!...best I ever had. I highly recommend.

Susan D.

Yelp
I just ate there had 2 chicken tacos with rice and beans chicken was dry and had no sour cream or guacamole on them so I asked and when I got the bill they had the nerve to charge 6.99 for guacamole and 3.99 for sour cream NOT GOOD I've ordered once before a to go order and they had the nerve to charge 25 cents for a plastic bag I sure won't be eating there again! They need to do better than that there's other Mexican restaurants that are sooooo much better and cheaper

Robert P.

Yelp
I have been going to Paisano since they opened. Every time I've gone somewhere else, I'm always disappointed that I didn't go to Paisano. The owners Hector and Emilio are really nice people and are always there. I've never had a bad meal there, and I get take-out at least once a week. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. Love to see a family business thriving!!!

Haley E.

Yelp
It just was not that good. It was underwhelming. They charged for chips and salsa at least if you ask for more chips. There was also a piece of cheese in our water?

Marie L.

Yelp
Great chips and salsa. Food is tasty. Nice margaritas. Good value. I especially like when the weather is mild and we can sit outside as the area behind the bar can get pretty loud.

Scott N.

Yelp
really outstanding Mexican food, especially for greater Boston which is not exactly known for it. I had torta pastor, other than the bread, which was average, everything else was second to none. perfect combination of flavors and tender meat.

Yuki C.

Yelp
Tbh I have no idea what I ordered. It's just something my friend recommended and obviously he's been here several times so he knows what to order. It came w tortillas as well and I love to have it w tortillas cuz the original rice is a bit salty if you just eat it alone. I also love my Mexican soda I got a mango flavor. My friend has a Jamaica which is also pretty good too. I think I'll wanna come next time again and try some other stuffs on the menu, just to expand my knowledge on Latino food:) Also they have a super cute outside area to eat, I love all the decorations and the Latino music! Such a good vibeee

Jessica L.

Yelp
The ambiance was nice outside yet the outdoor seating area's umbrellas didn't fold to an angle. After my party and I ordered to a rude waitress with attitude, I received a salad when I ordered a burrito. If you like the food there, I'd advice you to take out because overall I disliked the restaurant and would not come back.

Molly L.

Yelp
Great place for pupusas! Service is good, everyone is always super friendly and every time I've gone I've always been able to get a table.

Sarah T.

Yelp
Meh. The quality of the food is hit or miss, and the service is almost always comically slow. Decent margaritas and an outdoor seating area, though.

Allie A.

Yelp
Make sure you get a strong margarita so that you can forget about the overpriced food, crappy service, and the fact that you made a mistake walking through their front doors.

Belen Z.

Yelp
It's authentic. The food tastes amazing! And the margaritas are on point. Anything you order here, you won't be sorry with. It's nice to also find the beers of Latin America here.

Aleksandr C.

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican and Guatemalan dishes. Large menus with different varieties. They have a bar with beer, wine, and other liquors. Dine inside or outside seating is also available. Great food, great service, and good prices.

Linda C.

Yelp
This place has the best Margaritas I have ever tasted, be careful because they sneak up in you and you cant even taste the tequila. The food is authentic and delicious guacamole and chips as well.

Michael W.

Yelp
Really excellent food! We had the Pepe Boquitas as an appetizer and this is maybe one of the best meals for the cost I have had; the meats are amazing and we all ate our fill. I had the Enchiladas for my meal and they were excellent, maybe not the best I ever had but very good. The portions here are massive, and the quality is also excellent. Our group of 5 all ordered different meals and everyone raved about their food. The telltale question on any review is if you would come again. The answer to that question is not "If" but "How often." I could eat there weekly, order a different entree (in general) but Pepe Boquitas is on the list every meal. To be honest, if it is two people: just get Pepe Boquitas and you are set.

Tom C.

Yelp
Having come here many times it isn't great but solid but tonight changed everything. Upon asking our waitress, after seeing her walk around to multiple tables with her mask not covering her nose we asked her to cover her face. She said she had been busy. We said this wasn't acceptable and her response was 'you should just have stayed home!' Completely unacceptable. An update after talking to the manager. The issue still occurred but the owner agreed to address the ignorant comment and the lack of following the state guidelines on masks. I don't want to penalize the restaurant for the behaviour of one member of the waitstaff and will adjust the rating accordingly.

Laura D.

Yelp
Pros: -Has a small parking lot -Food was super flavorful -Great service. Our server was incredibly polite, quick, and accommodating to my beautiful but sometimes challenging dining companion ("Can I have an enchilada but without the tortilla?") They brought out the "enchilada" (usually a 1-plate item) as a 3-plate "burrito bowl" with the sauce and beans separate. -Starter chips were warm, crispy, and tasty. Cons: -Could really benefit from some renovating. This place is dated. -Can't put less than $10 on a card, so bring cash or go big -- Chicken Tacos Mexicanos ($2.25 per taco) I was duped by the description of "two corn tortillas" -- it doesn't come with two tacos, just one taco encased in two tortillas. Is that typical? I didn't see the point, and ended up with 2 uneaten tortillas after eating my tacos. Luckily, that was my only complaint for these petite little tacos. The chicken was cut into very small pieces so it was easy to eat and seasoned to perfection. Toppings were simple cilantro and onion. They were delicious in their simplicity without the pico, lettuce, and all that jazz (if you want that, you can go with the tex-mex tacos for a little more money - $3/taco). I also ordered a side of guacamole ($2.99), which was a good call. It was a decent sized bowl and it was fresh, creamy, and flavorful. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience! I'm sure we'll be back.

Yelp
hoy pedí unas pupusas y para mi eso no eran pupusas eran solo tortillas por qué no traían casi nada adentro un desagrado para mi

Diana O.

Yelp
The service at paisanos is extremely rude and unprofessional. The food is mediocre and bland. I ordered 2 orders of Garnachas and the lady answering the phone told me there would be a 30 minute wait time to pick up. I came to pick up the food and when I got home the food was soggy and cold. I called the restaurant and they told me the food had sat there for 30 minutes and that's why it was soggy! And they couldn't do anything about it. Unbelievable, they don't care about customer satisfaction or the delivery of fresh quality food to a paying customer.

Mariel G.

Yelp
The food is ok but the people working are rude, I oder food 1 hour before picking up and they give me the wrong oder and told me I still had to wait 30 more. But were rude about, like if it was fault, plus there isn't enough parking.I told them to give me the money back and left.

William S.

Yelp
First time here for lunch today. Great: homemade tortilla chips, refried beans, service and the 5 little bite nacho-esque appetizer Good: rice and the salsa Average: overall spice level and flavor profiles I can appreciate keeping things mild for us gringos and kids, but they should offer hot sauce at the table or offer a kicked up salsa. Overall, a solid meal and I will go back. I will just ask for some more kick.

Adriana A.

Yelp
Have been here several times and never disappointed! The margaritas, frozen and on the rocks, are very good. Perfect balance of sweetness and alcohol the many times I have ordered the different flavors. Food is good, not amazing but you'll get your fix for Mexican. I have ordered the chicken quesadilla, enchiladas, nachos, and tacos, and all were good and served fresh and hot. They do have pretty good run of the bar food, such as the wings which comes with fries in a huge portion. Price wise-the portions are a hefty size for the price. Both for the food and drinks. Unlike other reviews, I've never had an issue with the service. Maybe once there was a decent wait for food but we didn't notice while drinking. Wouldn't recommend if you're looking to get out of there quick. There is an older crowd who usually sits at the bar, plays Keno. But I think this adds to the ambiance. It has always felt lively walking in. Great place overall for a decent priced dinner and drinks night.

Roger M.

Yelp
It has been a few hours since dinner, and the wonderful flavors are still tantalizing my pallette. It was my first visit here, even though I have passed this place by for years. I now regret the times that I missed. The restaurant advertises itself as Mexican and Guatemalan. The meals are simple. For example, my wife and I started with the shrimp appetizer. It was shrimp, onions and peppers sautéed together with avocado on the side. It sounds like something that I could make at home, but, what I make doesn't have these flavors. The spices are not familiar to me. It was so tasty, that I could not stop. For dinner, we shared a Guatemalan sampler. It had three thin meats and chicken. That is the flavor that I still taste. Not hot spices, but extremely flavorful. Even the refried beans were good, and I usually don't like them. The service was loving and caring. It just feels like a family works together and is proud of what they serve Highly recommended.

Lois D.

Yelp
Food, service was authentic and excellent. Loved the music (which was at a comfortable level for conversation). Watch out for the hot sauce - wow.

Eric G.

Yelp
Host said that they didn't have any booths. All they have are booths. The place was not even 1/2 full and we sat there for 30 minutes and no one came to check on us, no one came to take an order for food or drinks or anything... completely ignored... but busied themselves with other tables. We didn't want to make a scene so we just left.

Trinity R.

Yelp
Had a great experience here. I'm half Guatemalan and so I felt right at home. I was in the mood for some pupusas, which were very delicious. I ordered some garnachas for the table, which they all loved. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. Our food took a little bit of time to get to the table, BUT we did not mind at all and you could tell they were very busy. Everyone was very happy with their food.

Nikki N.

Yelp
Decent tacos but nothing to write home about. I went in for take out and it looks like there's an awesome bar set-up but could not dine in due to the pandemic. There is plenty of parking.

Shawnte' H.

Yelp
It has been years since I have been here, so while I was in town I decided to meet an old friend for lunch. The place was exactly how I remembered it ... a very down home feel. We were seated over by the window, and I knew exactly what I was going to order: Steak Alambre. My friend ordered chicken fajitas. The place was practically empty, yet we still waited 30 minutes for our food. When we finally got our meals, my friends was incorrect. The brought her chicken quesadillas. We advised the waitress of the mistake and she apologized, and took the food away. 20 long minutes later a server returns with ... you guessed it ... A CHICKEN QUESADILLA!!! Like really????? By this time it is just ridiculous and almost like they were doing it on purpose. It took over 20 minutes for us to get the correct meal and this point, my friend had to go back to work. While we were waiting a waiter who was walking by if there was a manager that we could talk to. He said no, that the manager was out. He left and came back and said that he checked what the waitress wrote down and we said quesadiila. I quickly interjected and said no, she wrote it down wrong. We had now sent this back twice and they were trying to make it seem like it was our fault! Then when the check was dropped we were charged for the meal, even though we were unable to enjoy it. I kindly asked them to remove it. Customer service is clearly not their strong suit. The alambre was good, but ruined by the incompetence of the waitstaff.

Laura D.

Yelp
Don't let the look inside fool you! This place is a hidden gem! Large portions and GREAT food! Especially recommend the fried plantains!

Kristen V.

Yelp
Love this place. The parillada chapina is my go-to. Each meat is seasoned perfectly and the sides are excellent. Great pupusas and salsa too!

Charles G.

Yelp
Been going here for years. Sat out on the patio, drank some strawberry margaritas and ate a pastor burrito and added guac. The burrito was amazing. If your not into rushing a meal and want to sit and enjoy yourself then this is the spot. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Great neighborhood spot.

Ricardo R.

Yelp
Great autentic GUATEMALA & MEXICAN food. Lupita,Alicia and Kim they always friendly worked fast Food always came fast.small parking space next to the place but a lot off st parking.definitely we are coming back with my friends for more food and drinks!!

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Great food, lots of flavor and yummy drinks, this restaurant is my go to spot

Bohong Z.

Yelp
I was very disappointed, will never go back. Chicken and beef were bland and dry. The fried fish was very very salty. I was hungry so I ate the flesh but had to picked out the skin which would've been the best part if it hadn't been so salty. The bill came with 18% tip added for a party of two which is very strange.

Simon L.

Yelp
Incredible place. full bar, music and awesome service. The Carne Adobada is a plate of thick, tender strips of pork rubbed in red chili powder and marinated in garlic, oregano, cumin, lime/lemon juice and/or vinegar, and salt. These tenders morsels are grilled hard but quickly yielding char marks and crust that surrounds juicy, pliable flesh. Served with rice, beans, avocado and salad, this dish exemplifies the perfect food served at Paisanos. The various parts of the menu range from Guatemalan to Mexican, burritos, fajitas and tacos to fried chicken and ceviche. Excellent and delicious.

Janvi N.

Yelp
Stopped by soon after they started offering outdoor seating during the pandemic. Great drinks, even better service!

Joseph M.

Yelp
Paisanos is a great neighborhood Resturant. Relaxing, excellent food, great drinks, everyone knows each other, good music, and great prices! There is nothing bad to say about Paisanos Resturant. I love this place, very casual. The food is great made from scratch dishes, there is nothing that isn't great on the menu. Service is good. I love going here and when I am working in the area there is a 99% chance this is where I will end my day!

Mister T.

Yelp
This place used to be a lot better than it is now. They do have live music on saturday nights which is great. I think the best thing on the menu is the plantain dish with sour cream. They are certainly a standard mexican place, I don't know what they also say Guatemalan. The food is ok. I think they put paprika on their chips, the salsa is fine. Portions are large so that is a good quality. But the wait once you order your food is really long, that is likely their biggest downfall. I don't remember it ever being that long for a wait. We had enchiladas and a wet burrito. Everything tasted fine, but again the wait for food is way too long. The restaurant could be updated, but that doesn't bother me.

Emily D.

Yelp
I was in Waltham, MA visiting some friends and we were looking for a spot to have dinner. I didn't know the area too well.. so of course I had to check yelp. We found this humble little Mexican joint.. don't let the appearance fool you. The food and drinks were GREAT!! I kinda love this place now. We started off with some pupusas, chips and salsa and from there we were hooked! We enjoyed our entrees, the service, and best of all.. the margaritas were strong and yummy. The restaurant got pretty full after 7pm, seems like a popular place in the area. Go and Enjoy yourself! *cheers*

Hayami A.

Yelp
This review is a focused on service more than food since my previous attempts at being served an evening meal at two other restaurants never materialized after extended wait times at The Cherry Tree and Paddy's Pub, which I reviewed as well. Paisano's Restaurant is another of my go to eateries, flavorful Mexican and Guatemalan fair, friendly staff. Once again I sat down at the bar, by this time most of the customers where having their evening digestif (perhaps second). The bar was (in bartender speak) slammed. I ordered a drink and told one of two bartenders that I would like to order food, this time to go. She pointed to the menu QR code and within three minutes she asked me what I wanted to order. I figured this might take a while so I order some guac and chips to snack on at the bar, once again I was served in minutes while the bar was still very busy. Before I finished my drink my to go order was in front of me. I should note that each of these two bar tenders where working on each side of a two sided bar, both hustling drinks and serving food not once stopping the entire 27 minutes I was waiting for my food. I have seen the signs in windows and heard stories of the plight shortage of restaurants staff, this was not my observation at three of restaurants I attended last night. One restaurant seemed to be more attentive, more observant and flat out hustled to serve this patron a Saturday evening meal. Mucho appreciate!

Veronica E.

Yelp
i'm from San Diego, California so i was doubting the quality of this Latino influenced food but what we had wasnt too shabby. I work remote so our main office is in Newton and we went for drinks after work. BTW i cant believe "happy hour" is illegal in MASS! WTH! FOOD/DRINKS: totally got the Margaritas and they were not too strong nor sweet. They came in a cute cactus cup that i wanted to bring home haha We shared Ceviche, not that great, and the Mexican "Pizza" which was surprisingly satisfying. PRICE: i dont remember how much it was... but i would say average? AMBIANCE: random hole in the wall and not good for loud parties, aka me and my friend who laugh super loud. The restaurant was kinda shaped weird and enclosed. Clean but you can tell it was an older place. SERVICE: they were attentive and friendly.

Jason M.

Yelp
They have an awesome new patio and they did an amazing job on social distancing: real good distance between tables, way more space than other patios! Excellent service, great food and reasonable price. Look forward to coming back.

Cathy M.

Yelp
I wasn't extremely impressed with this restaurant although I had heard great reviews from my friends. Perhaps I didn't order the right thing but the guacamole, chicken quesadillas and skinny margarita left a lot to be desired. Atmosphere is that of a typical Mexican restaurant. Service was average. Not sure I'll be back.
