I met a friend here last night that I haven't seen in about 25 years and since she lives in the neighborhood, she suggested we meet at Paisano's for dinner and conversation. She couldn't have picked a better spot.
We arrived at almost the same time and from the moment we stepped through their double doors, I fell in love with this place. Looking around as our Hostess took us to our booth, I felt like I was in a Martin Scorsese movie. The dark, over sized booths that surrounded the room provided plenty of privacy (but were still spacious enough to sit comfortably) and the walls were lined with stained wooden wainscoting that provided a certain "warmth" that only an old, family run restaurant could provide. There were enough tables to comfortably occupy the floor of the room without congesting the traffic between them, too. To add to the wonderful ambiance of this experience, I couldn't help but notice the music playing in the background as well. "Someone to watch over me", "Mack the Knife" and "the Summerwind" were but a few tunes that filled the air with character.
Our server was extremely kind and patient. As you may guess, my friend and I had about 25 years of "stuff" to catch up on and so we didn't really concentrate on ordering right away. Our waitress seemed aware of this and after the third or fourth time she came by, she'd told us to take our time and let her know when we were ready. We gratefully agreed and after that, she made sure to occasionally walk by our table without interrupting us, but still being accessible without hovering. Finally, we decided to order the thin crust sausage pizza and she was off to the kitchen to place our order.
The pizza came out in record time. It was piping hot and delicious (I'm thinking of grabbing some of the leftovers as I write this!). When closing time came around, our server discretely slipped us the check and never rushed us to leave. I made sure to show our gratitude with a healthy tip. She'd more than earned it.
5 stars. If you appreciate the family run character in a restaurant, I think a visit to Paisano's will not disappoint. It's certainly well worth the trip.
