The 22 Best Restaurants in Richmond, BC | Eater

"There are a few fish and chip restaurants on or by the water in Steveston — the historic fishing village that’s part of Richmond — and many consider Pajo’s to be the best. Choose from cod, salmon, and halibut, which come battered, fried, and loaded in large paper cones that conveniently fit into holes on the outdoor tables. Enjoy water views while delighting in fresh fish wrapped in a thin and crisp, tempura-like shell. [$$]" - Jay Friedman

My past experiences ordering from Pajo's have been consistently positive, with fresh and well-prepared food. Unfortunately, my recent order was quite disappointing. The fish breading was noticeably overfried, and the fish itself was overcooked. Additionally, the accompanying fries were dry and soggy, rendering the meal unfinishable. I would rate the food 2.5 out of 5 stars. Furthermore, I must point out that the fish tasted distinctly of shrimp, likely due to being fried in the same oil. This practice is a serious concern for customers with shellfish allergies, as it would preclude them from safely enjoying your offerings. I sincerely hope this feedback is reviewed and addressed. Thank you.

Really good fish and chips! The fries are like high quality homemade frites and the fish is great too. It's honestly a little pricy but that's to be expected with airport food.

Best food in the YVR airport! The Cod Taco was amazing—crispy on the outside, soft and flaky inside. The slaw and sauce gave it the perfect touch. Super tasty! The Everything Burger was next level. Juicy patty, crispy bacon, fresh toppings, and a soft toasted bun. Every bite was delicious. The ginger beer also great, give it a try! And Esmond, who served me was awesome, super friendly and took the time to explain everything.

I paid tips on a food court, and was treated poorly. my friend order the same 2pcs cod, without paying the tips. But What I got is far more smaller. When I ask the manager, he refuse to change and insists its the regular. Besides the fish is dry and scatter when poking with a fork

Used to be great! My burger tasted awful. Fries were oily and not good at all. Very disappointing

I always crave a good fish and chips and my favourite has to be Pajo's. unfortunately it's too far to go to at Steveston so I order it at the airport when I get the chance. Honestly, I've always had a good fish and chips and Steveson, but the airport just doesn't seem to satisfy the same way. Actually, it's in fact terrible at the airport. I ordered a cod, two piece and when it came out, the cod had a weird greyscale skin to it. Normally, every time I ordered from Pajo's, you could clearly tell that it was not a different type of fish. But you can tell that it is halibut. Anyways, I made sure to double check before taking my order cashier kind of gaslight me into thinking it was cod. So I believed him and I went to take a bite. It was great that they gave me additional piece because they said that sometimes it is too small, they may throw an additional piece. However, upon taking, my first bite, it tasted like halibut as well. I shared my experience and they were happy to make me another order. This time when it came out, there was only two pieces. Which is totally fine because I only ordered two pieces. However, if you say that, "when the pieces too small, you'll add additional" why did I not get an additional piece this time when it's even thinner than earlier? But the biggest problem yet, was that the batter looked way different from what I'm used to. It looks like my piece of fish word deep-fried over and over again. When I broke open the piece of fish, you could tell that there was barely any meat. Very disappointed, even really eat because it wasn't cod, nor was decent enough to say it was OK to eat. Chips were also super undercooked. Everything was unlike Steveston

Google
I was surprised to see a fish and chips restaurant that gives you a choice of fish. (Wild caught Cod, Salmon, or Halibut.) The service was very pleasant on reasonably prompt, considering the fish was cooked to order. The fish was delicious with just the right amount of breading. The chips (fries) were literally a mixed bag. Some of the fried were crunchy throughout, while others felt like they were undercooked.

Google
The pieces were tiny and the fish was tasteless, hard and dry. Not worth the $21 asking price.

Yelp
Pajo's continues to serve spectacular fish and chips! Visited with my granddaughter two days ago who declared the halibut and chips "Best thing I ever ate!" She was over the moon with the flavour, the crisp batter and the fresh (not frozen) chips. The line moved quickly and we were served in just a few minutes on a busy Saturday. Don't know how they do it! Generous portion of delicious, flaky halibut (the very best fish for fish and chips, in my opinion) in a gorgeous light, crisp batter, endless fries and home-made tartar sauce. Served fresh and hot, there's nothing like it. Plus, it was a glorious sunny day on Pajo's wharf at Steveston. Sun glistening on the sea and fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. "If I had to pick a last meal," said the granddaughter, "this would be it!" Thank you, Pajo's, you made our day at Steveston even better! Highly recommended 11/10!

Yelp
Saw PAJOs after my 9 hour flight landed, had to eat it since I loved the other location. It was at 10am and the cashier was sitting there. I asked nicely if they were open and he sounds so impatient and rude "yeah u can see the menu ofc we r open". I ordered just cod and it came after a while, it didn't taste fresh, the batter literally couldn't stick to the fish. And the amount of tartar sauce was pathetic. Glad the other location is still good, but I wouldn't come to this location again

Yelp
Tried the cod fish and chips as well as the halibut fish and chips, both were really good. Made fresh while we waited. Location was nice because it was in the airport terminal before TSA security checks.

Yelp
Love the Pajo's at the Port Moody location. This one at YVR is so so. Could be the travellers are kind of like prisoners that don't have much of a selection at the limited foodcourt at the YVR? Or it could be good staffs are hard to find at YVR? Who would travel all the way to YVR to work for minimum wage? Anyhoot, found the food offerings not as appealing as other locations. Remarkably not worth it.

Yelp
I am glad they open early here because I was pretty hungry! We ordered a medium size fish and chips. I believe the portion is smaller than the one at Steveston and priced around the same. The fish pieces are smaller. The batter is not crispy but at least the fish is not dry. It was definitely not meant to be shared. The fries are pretty good. It's not salty. Overall, you can't expect too much for airport food.

Yelp
I had the 2 piece cod and chips, expecting an excellent nice meal. The fries were good, but both pieces of the cod were tough and chewy. I have never had tough cod before. I would guess it either wasn't really cod or it was very poor quality cod.

Yelp
A relatively new addition to YVR airport, Pajo's Fish and Chips was initially a nice surprise. I was happy to see a fish and chips shop as one of the options at the food court since I thought BC's reputation for seafood would resonate with travellers. Unfortunately, the fish and chips however are definitely overpriced, the portion is super small and really does enforce the stereotype of expensive airport food. One tiny piece of halibut with fries will set you back $10. In a no-frills food court, I don't think people should expect much, but if i wanted to load up on french fries, I could easily go elsewhere. Overall, I would advise people to avoid and try something else that will fill you up and at least give you something that's worth your value. Greater Vancouver definitely does have good fish and chips, but you won't find them here.

Yelp
They took away the Asian food I loved, but this place is great, too. Really good fish and all the chips you care to eat. Service was slower than expected, but only because they cooked the food fresh and didn't let it sit under heat lamps. Terrific tartar sauce, crispy filet perfectly cooked. Friendly service.

Yelp
Cod burger is not worth the money at all. The "patty" is one short strip of fish. I included my finger in the photo for comparison. It might as well be a kid's meal.

Yelp
Pretty decent fish and chips, especially when considering it's a food court location. They cook your meal to order, so if you are on the go, I would not recommend. If you have some time to kill though, I would definitely recommend. The halibut was very tasty and their batter is nice and crispy. Nice and friendly staff as well. Hope to visit again when I fly thru YVR.

Yelp
Batter is great and the portion is generous. The only thing that keeps me from getting back is the wait time. It is too long to wait for deep fried fish. Unless you are hungry or in a hurry, maybe reconsider your choice.

Yelp
So I've been to the Pajo's original location in Steveston, and I after having recently found out that there is now a location in YVR, I was keen to try it as I often connect thru YVR. The Pajo's is in the International Terminal of YVR, and it's basically a food court location. I decided to go with the Medium Halibut (2 pieces), and chips. I had asked how long and the gal was very precise in telling me 4 minutes... So I took this as a challenge. I got my timer out and timed them.... yup. 4 and a bit minutes. Close enough ! I dug into the halibut and chips ! Oh so delish ! Just like I remember from the Steveston location. So why not 5 stars instead of 4. Well my second piece of halibut was a bit over cooked and dry. Still every bit as good but just not quite as tender and juicy ! Overall, So I had to exit the secured area and head over to the food court in the international terminal - not the end of the world have preferred to remain in the secured area. The fish and chips was delish. Although not quite the ambiance of sitting on the dock in Steveston. But if you are looking for your fix of delish fish and chips... haul yourself over to Pajo's.

Yelp
I'm not really into deep fried greasy food but I was really hungry and decided to have fish taco and fries. It's a great meal deal $6 combo that includes your taco, fries and a drink. Fast service and the cashier up at the front is a great representative of customer service.

Yelp
I like their location at Steveston village in Richmond, so decided to take a bite at YVR as well. Got salmon and chips - it tasted amazing! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Love fish and chip from pajo at Steve stone. Super happy when they open branch at YVR where I work. Finally I can switch to something from Wendy's when I go for burger. Soon u will replace Wendy's with ur great burgers, bottomless drinks and fries refill and much better customer service.

Yelp
Food is OK. Prices literally doubled overnight. Used to get the fish tacos for under $10 now it's $18-20. Not worth the high price.....disappointing.

Afshaan A.

Yelp
Fish is so stale that it feels like rubber. Price is high and poor quality of fish served. Has happened many times now, so it is not a co-incidence.

Yelp
What ever happened to your food and service? We were a regular in fact we would stay hungry to eat at your airport location before travel! We ate at your airport location before we boarded our flights to Mexico for a vacation. The kitchen was very sloppy with the food and to make things worse we got sick to our stomach on the flights and ruined our first day of vacation because of the food we at at Pajos. We will not be eating at this location again there is something going on with you're burger and onion rings (horrible made this time) or the oil has been re-used too many times with meat in it. The fact still remains that was out first mean of the evening and last for two straight days only because your food gave us the stomach flu. We ordered the veggie burger with onion rings and wife ordered the cheese burger with fries. We both were affected by the food.

Shinyu K.

Yelp
Very very very small portions. Overpriced even for the airport. The fish and chips itself was good but I literally got two chicken nugget sized pieces of cod and fried for $15.
