I love the adventures of dining in South Florida. When a friend suggested Mediterranean for an evening out, I found this little gem here on Yelp. It's a small (and I mean small - maybe seating for 20 plus a table or two outside?) place in yet another strip mall - across from TY Park, for those who know the area.
If I had to summarize in one word, I'd have to say this place is "authentic." I've eaten at a number of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurants, but there were words on this menu that I've never seen before! We started with an appetizer of frena bread, served with olives, preserved lemon, garlic olive oil and tahini as accompaniments - holy buckets, I've found a new bread to love! You can see the partial remnant in the picture.
The special of the day, which my companion ordered, was koubeh (probably spelled differently), in either pumpkin or beet soup. She chose the pumpkin and the bite I had was delicious. I ordered the chicken with couscous, was accidentally served the vegetable soup with couscous (shown in the picture - the tagine held the couscous). Our server, Hadar quickly and graciously corrected the order after I realized that the soup wasn't just a side dish! It had huge chunks of all kinds of vegetables (unfortunately, not the ones I like, but the broth was tasty). The chicken was tender and delicious, and the extra was greatly enjoyed by a friend who was also impressed by it being glatt kosher.
Our server was lovely - attentive and patient - but very busy! The place was packed at 7 pm and never slowed down.
It was not inexpensive ($75 plus 18% gratuity), with nothing but water to drink, but I'm overall pleased with having gone. Definitely recommend!
