I came here after work late one night because a friend told me they have great specials. She wasn't kidding! I came around midnight and they had their $3 smash burger special. I got a red stripe for a night cap. Holy cow, this may be the best smash burger I've ever had. Yes it was literally only $3!? How can you beat that? It wasn't busy at all that night and that surprised me. Definitely has like a mixed tropical vibe to it and I could see it being a great spot to hang out, drink and get some good bar food. The bathroom was super cool and I loved the decor. So far that's all I had there so I need to come back and try their other stuff. But seeing my bull was $9.99 was amazing because when you're in downtown Charleston you don't see these prices. Kelcie the bartender was super nice and friendly. She showed me some of their other menus that show other specials as well. I highly recommend the smash burger on Mondays, and they do it ALL day!

Always pop in for lunch and it’s the best! Fast, friendly service with a cool vibe! Got the Classico dog all the way w/ chili, slaw, relish, grilled onions, and cheddar sauce. I judge a good sandwich on how many napkins it takes to consume and this was a 7 outta 7. Outstanding choice!

If you get a chance, hit up this funky place for some filling bites on the way into Charleston. Our server Jesse was sweet and helped us get some frickles and the best onion rings in town! It’s not fancy but it was good🌴

Google
Super cool spot. Very vibby, fun decor, great service, even better food!! You should definitely come here and check it out!!!

Google
This place being called “The Palace” made my expectations way too high. Instead of being meant for royalty this place is meant for Jesters. Our room was clearly untouched. The sheets had hair and random specs in it. The floor and chairs were covered in sand. The base boards had to what looked like a coffee spill stained on them. And that is just our room. Room service took a while or never showed. We asked for more towels and did not get them for a couple days. The front desk staff looks like they hate their jobs. And I can’t even relax at the hot tub without seeing a possum 10 feet away from me.

Google
Place was popping off. Lots of good looking people here. They have outside seating so bring your doggiessss!! I had the patty melt and it was awesome. Also guys, throw some cheese Doritos on one of your dogs; will go a long way. Finally, work on the bar’s standard marg recipe: was meh.

Google
Cool dive bar with a decent menu. We stopped in for lunch and there was a fair amount of people for 2 pm. It’s mainly hot dogs on the menu but they have some other options to choose from like a wrap and burgers. Beers are cold and the staff is welcoming. Worth a stop to check them out.

What exactly are you guys business of operations?? Today was my second time coming there & you all weren’t open!! & the business page said that y’all are open from 11am to 2am! & I was there around 5:30!

Lauren W.

Yelp
The ambiance was super cute! We stopped in for a quick bite and drink as we had been traveling that day. Service was good and quick! The food I felt was a little overpriced. I just think the sandwiches should come with fries on the side instead of having to add them for an extra $3. My boyfriend got the French dip which he thoroughly enjoyed but it wasn't too big and like I said doesn't come with a side. My son got the corn dog it was good but the batter was a little overcooked. I did love that it came in a bag- thought that was a cute touch. I got the Bobby because i wasn't too hungry and it was good (served on potato bread my fave!) but it wasn't chunky peanut butter as advertised. Just a few minor things but overall would probably go back if I was in that area.

Yelp
Nothing will ever beat the staff when this place first opened. Awesome bartenders who made you feel right at home with great personalities that kept you coming back! Unfortunately it seems like there is new staff every time. I will say Chef Joe knows how to cook and the atmosphere and food keeps you coming back for an affordable bite. Just wish they could bring the old staff back!

Yelp
I felt like I was in Miami! Great murals outside and inside. The decor was a mix of decades. Taylor was the bartender and took our food orders table side. Very nice and good pour. We started with adult beverages that hit the spot. Next came some pretty darn good peanuts that had a real fresh flavor but if you're not fond of salt skip 'em. We ordered a huge House Smoked Turkey salad, Hanover Melt Gluten Free wrap and a Corn Dog with Onion Rings. Everything was delicious. We will be back. Parking is limited on the other side of the road with side street parking or a grass parking area

Kris G.

Yelp
Nice divey, retro bar with a laid back feel. Good drinks and delish eats. If they don't have it that's okay, cause they can probably modify it for you! There's a little of this and a little of that everywhere you look! Artsy appeal around every corner. I bet we'll catch new things each time we visit! Can't wait to return!

Yelp
I was looking for a quick and casual bite to eat with a coworker before an upcoming event and Palace Hotel fit the bill. TBH I haven't been since they opened the new location and I have to say it's a major upgrade. I've seen them having fun parties and have wanted to come in and now I see why, the place just seems like a blast. Now I was there at that weird time between lunch and dinner, but I could totally see the vision. We sat at the bar and order some food and a cocktail. The bartender was great and answered any questions we had. I knew they were known for hot dogs so I went for the El Jefe Perro which is kind of done like Mexican Street Corn... which I love. We also shared a fry basket loaded with chili, cheese, and bacon. The food was great dive bar eats and the cocktails were above average. I can't wait to come back for a night time party and to try more of the menu.

Yelp
Travis was a great bartender! THC delta 8 cocktails & boylan & real sugar coke sodas. Had the burger baskets & fries. Fries were good but our burgers were flattened & almost burned but it was the end of the evening so maybe the grill man as tired. Fun ambience!

Tessa R.

Yelp
We went for happy hour on a Monday evening to take advantage of their $3 burger special and it was definitely worth the hype. It tasted fresh, not frozen, came with all the toppings and you could add fries for $3. We also enjoyed the $5 spicy boiled peanuts ...Not sure how long they will be continuing this special but we will definitely be back!

Karley M.

Yelp
Funky unique bar slightly on the outskirts of downtown. It's worth a walk or Uber to though. The ambience and decor is amazing. The bathroom was so fun and felt like a night club. Staff was so incredibly friendly, we hung with Wayne for a long time and he took good care of us. We eventually ordered food and my husband had "the best chicken sandwich" he's ever had in his life. I had the slaw dog which was amazing too. The onion rings were good but a huge order! Overall this is one of my favorite spots I went to during my visit to Charleston.

Jake T.

Yelp
The food and service were great. Cool funky vibe. Great burger. I'd definitely check this place out if you're in Charleston.

Elise D.

Yelp
I always wanted to check out the old Palace Hotel but never got the chance, so I'm so glad they reopened. This colorful dive bar is the perfect spot for some day drinking on their patio or ending your night at a casual spot. I had the Blood Orange Habanero Margarita cocktail and it was really tasty! We also got the Flamingo Fries which come with chili, cheese, and bacon. The portion is absolutely massive, enough to share for 2-3 people in my opinion, plus it's only $9! The decor gives Miami vibes with neon pink lights everywhere, a disco ball, and flowery wallpaper. I love the casual/locals only vibe of this place.

Jessica C.

Yelp
During my visit to Charleston I had to check out Palace hotel. My first impression of the restaurant/ bar was good, except for the lack of parking. The patio was clean and decorated with vibrant colors. It reminded me of a bar in Miami or the Bahamas. Once inside the decor was all over the place. It was a confused palate of 70's and every color imaginable. It was very interesting, to say the least. The service was great and the food and drinks were amazing. Cool bar and restaurant to day drink in the summer.

Misty R.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early dinner with my sister. She wanted to go to a Shep Rose restaurant. We liked the bright colors and theme. However, the food not so much. I understand it is more a night scene place for late night drinks and eats. First time ever eating boiled peanuts, and let me just say ewww. Flamingo fries are what I ordered, and I wasn't impressed. I nibbled around and ate a little bit, but they were gross. I wouldn't come back. Update the menu. Widen your ideal consumer base.

J M.

Yelp
Do not judge a book by its cover!!! Actually almost didn't do a review and wanted to keep this place to myself! Awesome comfort food, coolest vibe and great service!!' Definitely will be back!

Joey T.

Yelp
Awesome place we happened to pass by near our hotel. Cool vibes and decor, nice outdoor area, easy bar/sandwich menu with a twist, drinks were good enough. Our server was nice and fast.

Beth M.

Yelp
The food there was extremely limited. Also warning, they added extra money to my bill that was different from what I signed for.

Laura M.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the staff is fun and down to earth. It was a very quiet Sunday night but Clay the bartender made it really fun.

Heather D.

Yelp
Great spot!! Love the decor. Parking is across the street which is nice not all places dt have parking.

Sarah-Grace H.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! Cocktails were on point but the bar becomes more of a club at night, we ended up relocating outside because music was so loud and there was security at the bar. Wish they had their own parking but pretty cute spot

Courtney Z.

Yelp
It's a cute place and the drinks are great but it's so loud in there. It was hard to carry on a conversation.

Brenda J L.

Yelp
Great drinks! I did not have any food, but two customers sitting nearby were sharing an order of onion rings. The onion rings were HUGE! I asked the ladies about the taste of the onion rings, and they both said "DELICIOUS!" I am looking forward to my next visit to the Palace Hotel for my new favorite drink (Blood Orange something)...and a side of onion rings.

Connor A.

Yelp
Great atmosphere really enjoyed it, people of all ages which is a good sight it's not one sided with too young or too old of folks. Bartenders were great, super responsive, drinks came fast, food took a little time but the fries and everything were absolutely amazing and hit the spot. Had a lot of drinks and ordered food twice and bill was relatively average priced or even on the cheaper end for everything we ordered would have doubled in price anywhere else downtown so I was pleased. Great Pinterest/instagram worthy pictures you can take in the led infinity mirror in front of the bathrooms as well! Good spot for what it is, dj is solid not great but not bad either, loud and packed especially on college game days if there is a night game! Hard to keep conversation because the noise but you're going to get drinks food and just vibe not to have a college lecture so it's good either way.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Had the best time and best salads from Chef Frankie. Jackson was our server and went above and beyond to be kind, helpful, and just a joy to be around. Highly recommend the seasonal salad but would suggest the bacon to take it from great to FANTASTIC!!! So glad we stopped in!

Ashley S.

Yelp
Funky vibe, great food, awesome people! Happy Hour deals are unbelievable and their burgers are the best in town.

N P.

Yelp
Just went for drinks, very generous pour. Bad parking is the only drawback Thanks Shep!

Taylor L.

Yelp
Great deal in town for a group of friends! 12 bucks for a bucket of miller high life ponies. Another deal is roll the dice for 3 dollar tequila shots. This means you and your friends roll the dice to see the unlucky victim that gets to buy the cheap tequila. For food, palace is known for their tasty hot dogs. Bonus they are half price all day on Sunday! Also for food they have a great food special every week like a fried chicken sandwich, soft shell crab, and seafood pasta. Check their Instagram for what the special of the week is. It's not always posted every week but it's the best place to find out or call them. Dogs can rage at palace only until 9pm and then they have to be responsible and go home. The staff is great here as well!

Angela S.

Yelp
Both times I was here, there were dogs in the bar. Not out on the back patio, but in the actual building. Which just adds to the fun. I'll admit, I came here hoping for a Shep sighting (bartender said he comes in about once a week). But then I came back because I honestly liked the place. Laid back, come-as-you-are neighborhood bar, with a lot of options, and food, too. I have a hard time finding bars that "fit", but this one felt right. I would be a regular here if I didn't live so far away.

LeeAnn N.

Yelp
For some reason I thought the Palace Hotel only served hot dogs and beer. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and sophistication of the menu. I had the grilled chicken tacos, which were absolutely amazing. We also sampled the Cajun boiled peanuts, delish. We loved our bartender Sara, excellent service & super friendly. Next, the decor. Most dive bars have kind of a grungy dive feel. Not the Palace Hotel. It is more of a classy dive, if that is even possible. The decor seems to be well thought out and the outdoor space is full of eye popping color. The ambiance is laid back and welcoming. Totally my new favorite place for #tacotuesdayeveryday.

Harriett W.

Yelp
I was so excited about eating at Shep's bar but we never found it. Yelp and Waze took us to one location that appeared permanently closed and labeled a cigarette shop. Then we googled it and google took is to another spot, definitely closed, rundown with graffiti. Neither locations were in a great neighborhood.

Reid P.

Yelp
ALL TIME, I had such a great time here, I ended up slouched over a barstool vomiting into several empty pint glasses LITERALLY!!!!! I don't rememberr this part but my friends tell me that several times I actually puked so much that the glass overflowed and puke spilt on my leg, bare feet and my flip-flops. Hahahaha Told you it was all time p.s. sorry I don't recall anything about the drink or food but FUCK!

Madeline C.

Yelp
The decor in here was REAL ugly like there were shower curtains and a disco ball I just don't know what they were going for here. The food was freaking amazing, but don't come here for a restaurant experience it's definitely a BAR. A very very small one at that.

Dina C.

Yelp
Just an awful place. Do not go. Drinks were ok. Grungy. People kicked us out despite buying multiple drinks while waiting for an Uber to show up. Would not come back. This is just f*cking awful. So not come.

Nancy C.

Yelp
Noon on a Saturday, lunch menu is not offered, only brunch. We already had breakfast in the morning, so we left. Seriously, no lunch menu at noon?!

Ryan E.

Yelp
Looking for your neighborhood dive which was described by the bartender as a "dive with lipstick". In our search for a local bar we found it and then were able to get recommendations from the bartenders. This place is exactly what you want and need from a dive. Friendly staff, good, cheap, easy food and they keep the booze flowing. Sounds like most of poor ratings were looking for something from high class Charleston. This isn't it. A dive in every sense of the word, pink bathrooms, animal heads on the wall and a friendly neighborhood feel. Will 100% be back.

Lily H.

Yelp
I happened to dine here by complete chance. I was walking home, which is right around the corner from this place, and was approached by these two women looking for the Palace Hotel. They told me the address so I pointed them in the right direction. Being in an adventurous mood, I actually joined them in their search and ended up having a beer and a delicious hot dog with strangers. The bar menu is limited, but our server/bartender was super friendly. Discovering this place was a result of random circumstance, but I'm glad to know that there is a pretty cool bar with cheap, good hot dogs in my neighborhood and that their are people who welcome unknown individuals with open arms to their dinners. I'll definitely return to the Palace Hotel and share it with friends and strangers alike.

Tony T.

Yelp
Love it! This bar makes my top 5 list of dive bars and I've been to a many of them in many states. The staff was super friendly, local customers were awesome and ready to talk and talk to you about their city. Hamburgers were amazing and reasonably price. Top shelf liquor was a little pricey but worth it. I highly recommend!

Emily B.

Yelp
Not much to look at on the outside and parking can be difficult. We are not locals and had come by the night before based on other Yelp reviews (left without stopping), but returned on Wednesday afternoon. So glad we did!! The food was amazing (short rib tacos and El Jefe hotdog) and our bartender Chandler could not have been friendlier, with food and local recommendations. Super cute patio and cool decor. An overwhelmingly positive experience. If you are particular about your bar and/or looking for an 'upscale' environment, either skip it or get over yourself! This is a great place and worth the trip! Clean, friendly and great food/ drink/service!! Would def come again!

Kerry A.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I met some friends here on our recent trip to Charleston. It's definitely more of a local than touristy feel, but everyone seemed friendly and welcoming. We weren't here for very long, but while we were we each drank a couple of Yeungling Lights (I wanted Bud Light but they didn't have it). We did not get any food or have a server. However, when I went up to the bar I was served pretty quickly even though the place was pretty packed. It's a cool place with an interesting set up inside. We were settled at a table up on a stage/platform area and had a view of the whole place, which was nice. My boyfriend excused himself to check out the patio only to come back seconds later saying it was tiny. Overall, a good experience and a great place to go if you want to escape some of the more touristy (and pricey!) bits of Charleston.

Andrea C.

Yelp
A funky experience and the food is way more than anything we expected. Fresh flavors, innovative plates, and one of the tastiest hotdogs I have ever had (this says a lot considering I grew up in Chicago!). Not too fond of the area this place is in, but once you're in the doors, it's truly an experience you'll never forget. It was also fun to see Shep stop in to check on how we were enjoying our time. A little hidden gem in Charleston.

Shawna S.

Yelp
Close your eyes and picture a quintessential dive bar...a mullet rocking bartender, a couple sucking face at the counter, cheap beer & spirits, it's dimly lit, has questionable decor, music playing that you love and bonus...Ms. Pac Man in the steamy back room/storage closet...You have arrived at Palace Hotel. What a gem! Thank you for embracing the charm of a local joint in a world that is too easily swayed to be pretentious.

Gourmand A.

Yelp
Forget the morons talking about getting hammered here - though you can certainly do that on good, cheap beers - this place has AWESOME simple comfort food! I got the street corn appetizer, with hot house made tortilla chips, and the Low Country hot dog, which was grilled deliciously and topped with a nice chili (not too much), pimento cheese, onion, and happiness. The dive bar atmosphere is comfy without being sleazy and the whole place feels clean and pleasant. Went tonight and might very well go back tomorrow to try the burger melt - it was that good!!

Tara M.

Yelp
Great dive bar...had a stick with a flamingo placed in my Tito's soda...I liked it.

Emily H.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar! I've been a regular since when they opened the first time and would recommend to everyone! Ryan and Griff are great and make it a fun environment to come with friends and people from out of town visiting! Joe does a great job on the menu as everything to eat is so delicious! It has a lot of charm and character and I would recommend to everyone to check this hidden gem out! Also how can you beat $10 bottle of wines during happy hour? YOU CAN'T!

Cynthia F.

Yelp
We came by because it was recommended by reviews from people familiar with location and to support a Local business. I ordered 2 beers that were priced at $2.50 on a Saturday after happy hour. I then ordered a Fireball and when we checked out, my Fireball was $6 I have never paid that much for a Fireball. The bartender who took my order was included in shots behind the bar. Everyone was having fun. Good old style music tunes playing, good vibe. What would be nice is to include the community because when we walked out, the door was open and a lady looked back and seemed receptive to the tunes, but walked on. I guess I looked like a one time opportunity. I feel ripped off.

Alicia C.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Came during brunch on a Saturday and sat out on the patio. Great service, servers were very friendly. The food was so good. Ordered the breakfast dog with my mimosa and my father ordered the low country dog which was also amazing. Will definitely return the next time I'm in Charleston.

Molly B.

Yelp
The first time I stopped in here was when they first opened and to be honest, I didn't like it that much. Then again, it was still very new and it was pretty early in the afternoon. I have a bunch of friends that live in that area and they love the bar so a couple days ago I decided to pop in with them because I do love small dingy bars such as this one. Surprisingly to me, their food menu is pretty big for a hole in the wall bar. I ordered my first drink, drank it and then came back for a second one and it was kind of a chore. The bar wasn't too busy but one bartender was on her phone and then looked up and stepped away from the bar and went somewhere else. The other bartender was chatting with some ladies (he is a bartender so I'm not upset about that) and saw me and then he went on his phone as well. Kind of seems like the regulars get more attention here than new patrons but again, understandable because the bartenders have formed relationships with them. Overall, it wouldn't be my first choice to go to but if I had some friends going, id pop by again for a drink or two.

Jamie C.

Yelp
This review is solely on the drinks and company. Our visit was driven by a hope to see Shep, some guy from a TV show that my cousin loves. It took us a couple circles around the building to discover The Palace. It was only around 4:30/5, so the crowd or lack of was understandable. We walked into your typical dive but welcomed immediately by the bartender. Also the manager was sitting at the bar and immediately engaged in conversation. He insisted that my "Yankee" aunt and cousin try their boiled peanuts for the first time, which they ended up loving! We didn't see Shep but we were told we just missed him and he'd return for dinner. We left with a smile on our face and a belly of good beer and peanuts. I will have to return at a later time in the evening to try the bar food, based on the reviews.

Annie B.

Yelp
So crowded you can't even walk past people or even squeeze. The stairs to the stage make you trip trying to get to the bathroom. Idk how many times that's happened to me. People push and get rough because it's just too crowded. The lighting makes your eyes hurt. It's cool because of the Alice in Wonderland sort of vibe so you want to go in but once you're in you're hot and sweaty and everything is just so gross. It's not fun to be in there. Even the back patio is too crowded and hot. We went there in the winter with coats on there was so little breathing room that I couldn't even feel the cold. Somehow they make it so the breeze doesn't travel through the patio so you're just screwed if you want to cool off. It's got to be a big fire hazard.

Clare L.

Yelp
I will openly admit that my friends and I wanted to go to the Palace Hotel for our shot at getting a Shep Rose sighting. Not only did we get that, but we also left pleasantly surprised at the food and drink offerings at this little dive. From the outside, you don't know you are here. There is no sign that says The Palace Hotel or anything... just a white building in an area that you can't tell is sketchy or not. However, inside you'll find an amazing dive bar with friendly bartenders, a diverse clientele and great drink specials. My friends and I played the dice game with Shep and ended up taking way too many tequila shots - it happens I guess. We also tried the boiled peanuts and loved them. I'd definitely come back next time to try a hot dog, pulled chicken sandwich or something else on the menu. The food sounded amazing. Shep definitely hit it out of the park with this one. One comment - it was really hot in there - they said they were working on getting the AC fixed/installed? I can't remember. Once that is taken care of, this place will be pretty near a perfect place to spend an evening.
