Palais Faraj Suites | Best places to stay in Fes

"Built in the early 20th century, this glorious bourgeoisie palace is a cultural, historic and architectural gem. Decorated throughout in traditional Moorish style with zelliges (mosaics), zouaks (paintings on wood) and stuccos, it’s a showcase of Morocco’s famed artisan craftsmanship. Berber carpets and old photos of Fez’s medina evoke an atmosphere of authentic Arab-Andalusian tradition. " - Matthew Roach

The hotel has a take-you-away feeling and the courtyard is beautiful and relaxing, even in the rain. The staff is welcoming and accommodating. We had a lovely room, which was modern yet felt like a luxurious palace too. The shower was great; however, one morning we did not have hot water. We had dinner at the restaurant one night, which was just ok. They do have liquor license but the wine choices were all very average. The breakfasts were great and had a lovely view over the city.

Stunning property right outside the Medina. It looks and feels like an old castle. We stayed in the Ambassador Suite which had a living room, two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. The pool area is very clean and the water temperature was just right. Their food is top-notch. Highly recommend if you are visiting Fes.

We were excited to try this as was highly recommended. Upon check in, was shown several rooms. The room set up is awkwardly configured. Small tv only in living room and not in bedroom. ||No service by pool. Had to call if we needed anything. Spa was under renovation and wasn’t told this before we booked. ||Breakfast was decent but fruit wasn’t replaced. Service was fair. ||Beware that they do allow smoking inside the bar area. ||They were good with booking restaurants and getting us a guide and driver for the day. ||We wouldn’t stay here again as it isn’t luxury.

This hotel was an absolute disappointment from start to current. I am writing this during my stay as I am absolutely fuming. After a long 8hr drive to Fes we checked into this “5 star” hotel. Our prepaid, pre booked, non refundable room was somehow not available and we stayed in a temporary room for the night. We asked for a glass with ice for some sparkling water we brought along with us but this was not available as all restaurants were closed. I was puzzled to say the least, as many hotels offer ice at any given time (e.g. Rove hotel downtown Dubai 3 stars). I then called the front desk for in-room dining but this service is not available 24/7 (“5 stars”). The next day we were offered the room we booked and as soon as we moved in (2pm) I requested an extra luggage rack and bin for the bathroom as one was not provided. I have yet to receive both items, asked twice on the phone and once in person. It is now 9:15pm. The room also did not have a menu for in-room dining so I called them up and they offered to send down a menu. 20 mins later and I find myself going up to collect a menu myself. I am so devastated, so appalled at the poor service!!!! This is an absolute gem of a hotel, so thoughtfully designed and preserved, yet so poorly treated. The F&B manager Amin is the only reason I did not lose it at the front desk who told me my luggage rack and bin had been sent (I’m writing this in the courtyard outside), so I go back and check the room once more only to not find the items. I suggest not leaving trainees without a supervisor because the responses I received are not ones I’d like to share. When I shared my feelings of frustration one of the ladies working the front desk rolled her eyes at me. What a shame and a pity. The staff are not displaying the same excellence as the hotel, and do not match the interior. Do better.

I went there for dinner at their rooftop restaurant. It offers amazing views on the old medina of Fes. The hotel used to be the private residence of a Fassi family and was turned into a hotel in 2012. The owners kepts some of the original architecture elements. This gives the property an authentic look. If you go there make sure to explore the library and the patio in the ground floor. They will transport you in time. The staff of the hotel was very friendly.

GORGEOUS property, excellent service, fantastic restaurant, and great cocktails with a stunning view of the Medina. We were very well taken care of by Brahim and Madiha. Don't hesitate to book the Palais Faraj - you will not be disappointed!
