The Splurge: Hotels in Florence That Rival the Duomo

"This 16th‑century townhouse, once owned by the powerful Vecchietti family of traders and patrons to Renaissance artists, has been transformed into an exclusive boutique hotel that feels like a hidden gem in a central, walkable location. Understated yet sophisticated, the atmosphere leans more toward a private residence than a hotel, with generously sized rooms and suites (430 to 1,076 square feet) that include a kitchen or kitchenette for a fully self‑catered stay. Some of the best options open onto furnished terraces overlooking Florence’s rooftops, while the splurge‑worthy Leonardo da Vinci Premier Suite pays tribute to Italy’s greatest mind with two living rooms, a stone fireplace, and a private terrace over the courtyard. Private guided tours, a personal shopping advisor, and a doctor on call add to the discreet, tailored service." - Barbara Balfour

Palazzo Vecchietti (Florence, Tuscany) 7 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For all of Florence’s storied charms, the main thing you want to be able to do when you’re staying there is to escape the crush of the crowds in the city center. Often this means escaping the city center entirely — but in the form of Palazzo Vecchietti, there’s another option. This sixteenth-century palace couldn’t be much more central, but once you’re inside one of its luxe and elegant Michele Bonan–designed rooms and suites, shutting out the hustle and the bustle will be the work of a moment." - Tablet Hotels

This property is spectacular. The staff were exceptional. Ideally located to the main plaza with dining, shopping, and museums/catherdrals all within walking distance. The Palazzo Vecchietti is a gem of a property with alot of interesting history. ||The property is very private as only guests have access to it. That alone is unique, so you can escape the hustle and bustle for some real quiet time when you need a break. ||The gem of this property are the staff. It started when we arrived and Leonardo gave us a tour and historical overview of the property. Then he sat us down and walked us over the city with a handy map where he also made excellent restaurant suggestions.||Carlo the bartender was excpetional and easy to talk to as we bent his ear during most of our stay as we stopped for a night cap every evening. We really can't say enough about the entire staff. The breakfast team were incredibly attentive and helpful. You really felt well looked after at this property.||We will definitely come back here if/when we visit Florence again. It was our first time there and we stayed 6 nights and could have stayed longer.

Palazzo Vecchietti, built in 1578, was once the home of a prominent Florentine family. Bernardo Vecchietti, who commissioned the work, was a senator and patron of the arts. The Palazzo is now a beautiful small hotel, just one block off the Piazza della Repubblica. It’s been absolutely lovely staying here. The hotel is beautifully appointed and the staff is simply OUTSTANDING. Great breakfast (served in your room) and a wonderful bar/bartender.

We recently stayed here on the final night of our 30th anniversary trip through Tuscany. We couldn’t have picked a better capstone stop for exploring Florence and then getting a solid rest before an early morning departure. This luxury, boutique hotel by SLH group has just 16 rooms all within the original city palazzo of the Vecchietti family. The architecture has been preserved. The decor restored. And the property is updated with every expected modern convenience. This hotel has none of the quirks you often find in “old world” European hotels. The staff here were all energetically focused on delivering comfort and hospitality. We especially appreciated Luca’s warm greeting upon our arrival and his helpfulness as we sought to plan our evening and next day’s return to the airport. Our one regret was that we could only stay a single night (this time).

We had the very best experience of our travels across the world at Palazzo Vecchietti! From booking to our stay to our departure they were a five star team and the hotel was exceptional! Special thanks for the incredibly on point and classy turn down service. I loved the tea upon return and appreciated it every evening!

We had the absolute best stay at Palazzo Vecchietti—by far the best hotel experience of our trip. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with such warmth and care. Leonardo, in particular, made us feel truly important and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. The service throughout was exceptional, and the attention to detail did not go unnoticed.||This morning we enjoyed the most incredible breakfast delivered right to our room—such a special way to start the day. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented.||We can’t recommend Palazzo Vecchietti highly enough. If you’re looking for luxury, comfort, and genuine hospitality in Florence, this is the place to stay.

Staying at Palazzo Vecchietti was an absolute dream and felt like living in a mini museum! This historical building is incredibly stylish, and every detail contributes to its unique charm. The location is unbeatable, just a few blocks away from the stunning Florence Cathedral, and other city's main attractions. Leonardo made us feel incredibly welcome with tasty snacks and coffee. He was patiently offering professional suggestions for places to visit and recommending some fantastic restaurants in Florence. Our room is spacious, cozy, and just as stylish as the rest of the hotel. We were also incredibly impressed with the timely room cleaning service – our room was tidied up three times a day, so it was always pristine when we returned. Last but not least, the breakfast was delicious, with a wide variety of selections to choose from.

Our stay at the Palazzo Vechetti was amazing. The property is gorgeous and the staff is second to none. Tomasso went above and beyond to get us to the hotel when we were unable to navigate the ZTL even walking 20 minutes to "collect us. Jordan at the bar and Samanta hosting breakfast are a pleasure. |From the sparkling wine welcome drink while Luca filled us in on the hotels history and must sees while in Florence to checkout, I couldn't have asked for more. The entire staff are just perfect!|Thank you Palazzo Vechetti for making our 1st stay in Florence a memorable one ❤️

Every minute of our stay here was excellent. Starting with the check-in, you’ll recognize the amazing level of service that is consistent throughout your entire stay. All of the staff is extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful with anything you need. The property is beautiful, with large, comfortable rooms. The bar, which is open only to hotel guests, is a wonderful place to have a pre-dinner drink or wind down after a long day in a very quiet setting. We wouldn’t change a thing about this place!

Yelp
What an incredible stay we had here - the staff is incredibly kind and accommodating and the rooms are top notch. They were particularly attentive to our 13 month old who was traveling with us. You absolutely get what you pay for here, and we will definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful stay in Florence!

Yelp
I love this hotel. It thus far has surpassed the experience I had at Portrait Suites in Rome. Luca greeted me at the door and offered sparkling water and champagne while I was in the sitting area waiting for them to check me in. All the meanwhile he provided a brief overview of highlights and services at the hotel. The highlights served as a refresher since my last trip here. The restaurant recommendations and offer to set up reservations will make the trip smooth. There is morning breakfast at the third floor or option to have it for room service (charge included in hotel rate). Finally the location is central to attractions in the town, dining, and temptations galore for shopping!

Yelp
My husband & I stayed here during our honeymoon and we absolutely loved it. The hotel staff was extremely welcoming and accommodating. They greeted us warmly with food and drinks and marked up a map of the local sights for us. They even upgraded our room for us for free. The room was clean, beautiful, comfortable and full of charm. Paola, Leonardo & the rest of the staff there went out of their way to make our stay as amazing as possible. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends. It's also in a very central location which made getting around that much easier.

Yelp
what a wonderful spot, with a perfect location on one of the best cities in the WORLD! The rooms are very spacious, the amenities waaay above normal and the staff is willing to do just about anything to help or guide you. Breakfast (included) is spectacular compared to almost any other I've had, and they will deliver to you room if requested. I'm a vet of probably 2,000 hotel nights (long career with lots of travel) and this is in the top 5 places I've ever stayed on several continents. We were in room 302, which had a lovely small deck with views to the Piazza Republica---sublime at sunset with a bottle of prosecco and a Cuban cigar. Look no further...this is the spot. if you're hesitant due to budget, find a way to stretch and make it happen, you'll be happy you did.

Yelp
This wonderful boutique hotel, located just off the Piazza della Repubblica, feels like a second home. We spent 2 nights here just before Christmas, then returned for New Years Eve. Paolo, the hotel manager, should write a book on hospitality management. Everything was absolutely perfect, and we felt welcomed and pampered from the moment we arrived. We took the penthouse suite, which had a lovely outdoor terrace and a sauna in one of the bathrooms. It truly felt like a second home. Can't wait for our next stay.
