Palenque Restaurant - Review - Italian Market - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Palenque, the casual Mexican restaurant formerly known as Veracruzana, feeds everyone from the late-night crowd in need of chilaquiles and french fries at 1am to families sharing chimichangas. Every table at this place in the Italian Market gets a trio of housemade salsas that work well on earthy, mildly sweet enchiladas de mole, massive tortas, and reliable but unremarkable tacos. The must-order, though, is the spicy camarones al ajillo served with red rice to soak up a chipotle cream sauce. It's so good that we’ve picked it up twice since dining in, which might just be the best way to eat here, seeing as service can run on the slow side." - Alison B. Kessler

I went to Palenque with my family today, 2 young kids and my two in laws who are a bit older. Please note that my Chinese in laws aren’t the most adventurous when it comes to food, but we all loved the food! We ordered a Mole Poblano, Al Pastor, Beef Tongue and Fish tacos, and a Guacamole. Portion sizes were great, all the meats and ingredients were cooked impeccably and authentically. I particularly loved the Mole, the sauce was rich and flavourful, and its consistency was smooth and creamy like the best out there. Will definitely love to come back again some day! Highly recommended.

We devoured takeout from Palenque for Mother's Day. We shared their freshly-made tortilla chips with guacamole plus corn on a stick. Our family sampled chicken and beef tacos plus mole for our main courses. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The prices are reasonable for the generous portions. We also appreciate that they have vegan and vegetarian meal options. Come prepared since it's a cash-only business. Drinks are BYOB but they have soda and coffee. This is a great option if you're looking for late night dinner or snacks, because they are open daily until midnight.

I came to Palenque Restaurante impressed by their review score. I could not be more satisfied with my decision. Their carne asada tacos tasted excellent! My waitress Annie was so pleasant to interact with! I will be returning.

I went here twice and really enjoyed my experience. The food was all incredible, except the Tres Leches, which shocked me. The Brisket in the Birria was very tender and flavorful, the chicken in the Nachos I got was juicy and flavorful. Everything was fresh except for the Tres Leches. The service is phenomenal! The restaurant is very comfortable, welcoming, and kept very clean. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHECKING THIS PLACE OUT! I just don't recommend the Tres Leches.

The server (and cook?) seemed understaffed BUT that didn't matter. He was fast and courteous. The steak chimachanga with Verde sauce was great

It doesn't get any more authentic than this. This place was highly recommended by a regular and I see why. My quesadilla was amazing.

This Restaurant is incredible, my go to for Mole enchiladas, the Mole sauce is amazing, the portions are large and comes with sides, and a fried egg (A tub of fantastic Guacamole can be one of those sides). The price is unbeatable for the quality and sophistication of the dish. Their enchiladas are superior to any restaurant in center city. Moreover, the mole sauce magically tastes even better the next day when reheated as leftovers.

The food is delicious here. Everything ive had, from tacos to burritos to nachos to mole and enchiladas has been extremely flavorful and hearty. The salsas are excellent and very spicy as well.
