The 17 Best Afternoon Teas In London

"If you’ve been around the afternoon tea block, The Langham in Marylebone is the best place to have a relaxed one in London. This isn’t to say that the surroundings are casual—the mirrored, silver-accented Palm Court room is very fancy, as is the Wedgwood crockery your tea’s served on. But this is a place where you can feel comfortable hanging for a while with your pals without worrying about disturbing others. It’s even a good place to bring kids, which helps if your sister absolutely insists on bringing your constantly-in-motion nephews." - rianne shlebak, eileen twum

Where To Go When You Don't Want To Be Overheard - London - The Infatuation

"No one can pass judgement if you’re drinking jasmine silver needle tea out of a shiny teapot and eating finger sandwiches. And especially when you’re in The Langham’s Palm Court. Even if your friend's personal life does sound like one of those Reddit threads. Inside the Marylebone hotel, in a huge mirrored, pillared room with high ceilings and cosy sofas, the afternoon tea situation gives you an excuse to hang around for a while with your pals without worrying about disturbing others around you. " - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Rianne Shlebak, Jake Oliver

"An Elegant Afternoon Tea Ah, The Langham for tea? Excellent choice. You've dressed up, of course, and the top-hatted gentleman nods his approval before opening the door to a most glamorous afternoon tea. Tea in the Palm Court is an elegant affair. A jazz pianist provides perfect accompaniment to the clinking champagne glasses and china teacups. The discrete, well-trained staff floats among the tables delivering tray after tray of delectable sandwiches, cakes and scones. A tea sommelier stands at the ready to help you choose the perfect blend. You while away the afternoon piling feathery scones with clotted cream and preserves, sipping tea from Wedgwood cups and enjoying the the relaxed luxury of afternoon tea in Palm Court. Just when you think you can't eat another bite, the dessert tray arrives bearing sweets almost too beautiful to eat. Almost."

Just an exceptional experience. The silver service was highly professional but not uptight, with waiters who are approachable, warm and personable. The patisseries were delicious, and I am SO impressed with the gluten free options. The tea was interspersed with lovely little surprises along the way, like the mini ice creams, the Battenberg cake at the end (I can’t speak for the normal one but the gluten free version is one of the best cakes I have ever had), the birthday sorbet cake and the mini booklet on the history of the afternoon tea and The Langham. The sandwich fillings were traditional and yummy (although the bread was slightly stale, but the refill sandwiches were freshly made and delightful). The live piano was a lovely touch to make the experience that bit more memorable. All in all, I wish I could give this place 100 stars, it exceeded all expectations, in particular their gluten free offering and the service. Worth every penny. Thank you so much.

Google
The afternoon tea is lovely! Consists of a really great selection of teas from around the world, some very nice sandwiches which one can even ask for repeat courses on, a lovely selection of desserts, fresh scones and a cake. You will be absolutely full by the end of it since the portion sizes are great. The Palm court feels slightly too small for the number of tables but that’s to be expected since it’s so popular. They even bag your leftovers preventing food waste.

We booked in advance for my husband‘s 45th birthday. We only had the weekend so it’s very convenient to book ahead. It was a fantastic experience and the afternoon tea was amazing. Make sure not to eat before the afternoon tea because you get a three course meal. Thank you for making my husband a special dessert for his birthday. We now understand why Langham has the best afternoon tea in London. Everything we ate is a piece of art and every bite was a feast in your taste buds.

Google
We are a family of four and had afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday. The tea selection, sandwiches, desserts, fruit cake and scones were faultless (£85). My 4y.o. enjoyed the children’s set (£50). Easily in the top three of afternoon tea offerings my husband and I had in the last 10 years. Unfortunately the service, while friendly, was clumsy (to interpret it in the kindest way possible). In other 5-star establishments, we are always asked “Are you celebrating any special occasion?” - this time at The Langham, having noted that we are celebrating a birthday in the booking form, I thought it was well noted by the staff hence we weren’t asked. Nothing happened and so we didn’t end up celebrating here and by the end of the tea. I didn’t bother asking. As a Brilliant Sapphire member (Langham’s loyalty programme, second highest tier), we were supposed to get a 10% F&B discount. I showed the staff my membership card through their website as the staff needed my membership number. While the website was showing Sapphire, only a 5% discount was applied. I later went back to check with another staff member who asked me “Are you Onyx (lowest tier) or Sapphire?” She then went to cross check my membership tier with front desk, returned to tell me it was indeed Sapphire, and that the account team will get back to me via email next week to process a 5% refund. Lastly, when my husband requested our coats back, only his and our daughter’s came back. He had to describe my ‘missing’ coat - a Max Mara teddy bear. Thankfully it was there. My husband wants to return some time in the future for their brilliant F&B offering, but he will have to go with someone else as I will not. There are many other beautiful places in London with great offerings and much better service. If you must go… do this: 1. Take a screenshot of your booking form so you keep a record of if you noted your birthday, anniversary, or other special occasions. 2. Double check your special occasion with the staff at the start of your afternoon tea. 3. Keep your nice coats and jackets with you. It might be a tad more troublesome but good to have the peace of mind that your stuff won’t go walkabout. 4. If you have F&B discount, double check before paying. Although your app or website could be displaying higher membership tiers which one would assume to be up-to-date and accurate, you might be given a smaller discount % and it’s truly a pain to sort it out after. 5. Ask yourself if you really must go here.

My mum treats me to an afternoon tea every birthday and we love to try a different one each year. This was our first time at The Langham and we were absolutely blown away...the service was impeccable. Our waiter, Allum, went above and beyond. The afternoon tea was delightful, the finger sandwiches were delicious, the pastries and cakes were absolutely outstanding...all so perfect! The scones came out warm and the fruitcake was excellent. The attention to detail was up there with the very very best! And it was an afternoon tea to remember! One of our new favourites in London!

Google
A classic version of the afternoon tea culture. All beautiful art deco with its lush silver details and mirrored luxury. The food itself follows the standard sequence: sandwiches, desserts, scones and a couple of chocolatey goodness. The tea and sandwiches are refillable, but beware the whole experience is very filling. While everything was excellent, the sandwich could do with an update on the bread. The staff was effective and very friendly. The live piano finally adds that extra touch making this one of the best addresses in London for afternoon tea. The Xmas decoration is striking and made this an even more special afternoon.

Google
Wonderful experience recently at the Langham for afternoon tea with our whole family, 1 year old included. The food was great, and the room beautiful, but what made the experience was the service from Doriana. She made sure our daughter had everything she needed, including scones and hot chocolate. We were very well taken care of the entire time, which makes it so much easier and more enjoyable with a baby. I even got a nice birthday surprise.

Google
I highly enjoyed my afternoon tea at The Langham Hotel! I am gluten free, as was my guest, and felt all of the safety needs of our dietary requirements were met. We were able to fully enjoy delicious alternatives to the sandwiches, scones, treats, and tea cakes. There was a savoury scone option (cheddar scones with a tomato chutney) that was so outstanding I got three refills! As well, the patisseries were superb AND there was an extra after tea cheesecake that was fabulous! The scones were good, but preference wise, I would have preferred them to be fluffier. As for the room itself, a lavish setting with attentive and courteous waiters created a welcoming environment. I really appreciate the live music! Overall, this was a fabulous experience. I go to a lot of high-end afternoon teas in London, and I would say this one ranks amongst the best. If you prioritize desserts and unique twists (the savoury scones!) then this is definitely where you want to go! Note: Unlimited free refills!

Yelp
Just a lackluster presentation..... Having been to tea at Brown's Hotel and The Peninsula I was really disappointed with the Palm Court food presentation, the food itself and the service.

Yelp
I ate here quite a few times and every day for breakfast when I stayed at The Langham. The food was always delicious and enjoyable. The staff were exceptional and the ambiance was definitely elegant. It truly was a nice experience dining here. One of the days I ate breakfast here I had the Full English and it was superb, even the black pudding, of which I am normally not too keen. They even had Asian congee for breakfast, which I tried on another day and again it was quite delicious. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to try the Afternoon Tea, which is probably what they are known for, but I hope to try it someday.

Yelp
Love love love!!! To start, this place is so picturesque, with warm gold decor, amazing staff, beautiful plating. Right outside the dining area, there was a harpist placing musical numbers from Les Mis, Wicked, and classical pieces that made the experience incredibly charming. The Ritz and the Palm Court know how to do atmosphere perfectly. This was my first time doing afternoon tea and I could tell how every bite was intentional and thoughtful. The sandwich assortment was incredible and I found a new love for scones that day. I also got the Oolong Formosa Tea with my meal and while it was weaker than the teas I usually drink (maybe understeeped), the flavor itself was rich and fragrant!

Yelp
Afternoon tea was an absolute delight! Piano man was so nice to listen to him play renditions of many classic songs. The tea and food were just wonderful. The scones, and desserts were something of a dream. Nice to see how teas complement certain food items. Our waitress was very helpful in selecting our teas since we were clueless and not much experience in the tea world. Would love to come back and experience dinner here. We had other afternoon teas while visiting London but this was by far our favorite!

Yelp
We're Americans with questionable taste so maybe don't trust us LOL. But this was perfect! Sandwiches were soooooooo good, I could eat them everyday of my life. Service impeccable, they really made us feel at home. Beautiful room and ambiance. Really great place for your first afternoon tea experience :) highly recommend

Yelp
Amazing! Top Notch! This is definitely a splurge afternoon tea in London, but from start to finish 5 star service! They offer a menu for children too! It was a beautiful way to kick off my husbands birthday, and we all enjoyed the food, service, and everything. It was an experience we won't forget and we might always come back when we visit London!

Yelp
By far the best Afternoon Tea experience We've had. From the moment we walked through the door we were treated like royalty. They seated us in front a live Pianist, which was perfect and added to the ambience. They provided a stool for our pocketbook and pulled out my chair every time I got up to use the restroom. Our server Alex was incredible; excellence is what comes to mind when I think about the service he provided. The level of attentiveness and engaging personality he brought to our table was outstanding. Now the food: The tea sandwiches were so scrumptious, that they provided us with extras of our choosing. My favorite was the smoked chicken, the cucumber cream cheese, and the cocktail prawns. I paired it with the Langham blend which was malty and so smooth, that I drank it without milk. Pastries and scones was served next; we were still in awe of how delicious the sandwiches were that we neglected our scones. But no worries here comes Alex insisting on bringing us fresh warm scones, because he wanted us to have an authentic experience. We were slowly coming down from our sandwich and pastry high only to be elevated again by these delicate yet firm buttery scones. To top it off, Alex surprised us with complimentary pours of sparkling rosé. This experience has truly been the highlight of our holiday, thank you for making two ladies from the USA feel like queens for a day. I look forward to coming back.

Yelp
We stayed at the Langham and had a very nice breakfast here. The staff is lovely. The room is beautiful. During tea the room is always filled.

Yelp
The most wonderful afternoon tea with a complete halal menu to accommodate for my family (available upon request). We truly felt so special at the Palm Court. The service was impeccable, as was the ambiance. And best of all were the scones and the assam tea. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
Ihigh tea service is definitely a must do if you are in the London area. Since we were staying at the langham hotel, we opted try this place. When we made reservations, we told them that we had a few dietary restrictions and I myself am vegan and gluten-free. They said it was no problem at all and the chef can make a variety of items to accommodate so we proceeded with the reservation and was excited to try this place. When we were seated, it took nearly 15 minutes before anyone greeted us before we had to get up and ask for our server. The service was quite slow to begin and we had to flag down a few different servers before ours ended up coming to us. The options for the sandwiches and Tea snacks were decent but not what I was expecting. When my gluten free vegan ones came out, they were all smothered in hummus with just cucumber or pepper and lacked imagination, creativeness or any kind of thought other than just hummus. To my disappointment, I asked the manager if they can speak to the chef and incorporate other things into the sandwiches such as may be a pea purée, a vegetable of some sort or maybe some grilled vegetables, vegan cream cheese with the jam, just anything other than just hummus! There was even hummus on just lettuce cups. I was disappointed that I was giving the chef ideas on what should be more of a variety instead of just hummus between gluten-free bread. The sweet snacks included some decent ones like the rice pudding. On the regular tea sandwiches and high tea sweets, my partner was not impressed with any of them and took a bite and opted out of getting anymore which is a rarity because he has quite a sweet tooth. The gluten free scone was also sad and very mushy. It was just okay overall for high tea service.

Yelp
As soon as you walked in to the foyer of the hotel to enter the Palm Court, you are stepping into beauty and luxury. It is a very welcoming and relaxing place with plush art deco. You cannot go wrong with the Wedgewood Afternoon Tea (with complimentary glass of champagne, booked through afternoontea.co.uk) Of all the luxury places I have been to so far to indulge in afternoon tea, this is by far the best. The service is excellent and the sandwiches are fresh and not your usual sandwiches. I like the specialty sandwiches, each one is something to savour and explore, and then you can have more! I really liked the truffled duck egg brioche, and the corn-fed chicken and golden sultana on carrot bread. The warm scones are really good too with nice thick Devonshire clotted cream, and of a good size, one plain and one with fruit. The selection of pastries and cakes are absolutely exquisite, and looks too good to eat. After having our fill of sandwiches and scones, we just could not eat any more and we were able to pack these away in lovely take away boxes to enjoy later. They also start you off with a Lemon Posset with strawberries to whet your palette, and there is a large choice of blends of teas to choose from, something for every taste, and even decaf, not just a herbal or fruit alternative when you ask for decaf, We never felt hurried even though there was a 2 hour sitting requirement. As a special treat, this is ideal. And if they know that you are celebrating a birthday, out comes a special birthday cupcake accompanied by the pianist playing the happy birthday tune.

Yelp
Highly highly recommend this place for afternoon tea! It completely re-defined scones for me. They are so airy, fluffy, and buttery! The sandwiches and desserts are also tasty. They also do refills for scones and sandwiches (but you will probably be too full to eat any). Service is great and the ambience is very classy!

Yelp
Our group of four had a great afternoon here. The egg mayo with shaved truffle sandwich was a particular hit, as well as the coronation chicken sandwich. The scones were fantastic. We also went through 5 different teas between us and enjoyed trying the various blends on offer. The pianist was really good and played a mix of Broadway tunes and old 80s/90s pop songs which was fun. As other reviewers have noted, this is truly one of the best fancy afternoon teas in London and the service was stellar. One star taken off because of a mix-up in tea pots and new vs used tea cups and the 2 hour deadline warning. I understand that restaurants need to turn their tables and that we had booked for a 2 hour seating but there must be a better way to enforce it than trying to rush you along. The staff here were discreet and very nice about it but still.... Maybe they should have come around earlier rather than 10 mins before? It's just one of my particular peeves with high-end establishments.

Yelp
Langham Hotel won the Tea Guild's Award for Top London Afternoon Tea 2010 .... so of course it was on our list Pastel greens & golds welcome you - comfy cushioned chairs & sofas, crisp white tablecloths & super nice staff We each got a different Tea Service - friend got the Wonderland Tea & I opted for the Bijoux & they were nice enough to make it all veggie for me I liked how the Bijoux was described as "inspired by the beauty and sparkle of some of the finest jewels from the most famous houses" - they were pastels, so decorative & def inspired in design! Everything was brought out together (which we really like so we can mix the sweet & savory as we want) There was not even one little dish that wasn't scrumptious - complete overload on the scones & the desserts were almost too pretty to eat....almost The sandwiches were the most delish mix of curries, chutneys, fruits & cheeses & we couldn't help but be total piggies Walking around Regent Park afterwards was def in order.... or in our case, it was more like waddling Be sure to make rezzies - even calling a month ahead, our first choice was booked! (pics on the way!)

Yelp
Oh. My. God. I have never, and never will again, tasted sandwiches and champagne and cakes s good as this. We were seated quickly and promptly and the tea was chosen from a vast menu and after a few minutes of brewing time (explained to us in advance) it was brought over. Service was fantastic all the way through, and staff were exceptionally friendly, chatty when required, discreet and subtle and almost unseen otherwise. I had booked this just a week in advance and included a note about how we were celebrating a birthday, and they brought out a special birthday cake afterwards for us before we were about to leave, and the exceptionally good pianist played us a rendition of Happy Birthday as the cake was presented. Top marks all round. It's expensive, but it's as good as it gets. If you are choosing where to come for Afternoon Tea, I can't recommend this place highly enough. The only, only, only negative for me was that the tea seemed to be quite weak, but perhaps that's my Brummie tastebuds being unaccustomed to the subtle flavours. Or perhaps it's too much milk. However, I asked to change the pot, and chose a new blend; out came a new pot and fresh cup and they whisked the old cup away for me too. Again, top marks.

Yelp
Lovely and relatively calm place for afternoon or high tea. The room is modern meets art deco and during the holidays it's quite festive with a huge gingerbread mansion front and center. The scones and clotted cream were some of the best I've ever had, and the tea was lovely. You will want for nothing with the service and the magnitude of detail and tastiness packed into a few lovely hours. If you time it for later in the day, you will enjoy their traditional Champagne Charlie toast. As I finished my tea, my boyfriend joined me and had an actual meal. I recommend setting your reservation at least several days in advance, and maybe even a week or more if seeking a weekend tea time.

Tracey W.

Yelp
I took my daughter here for a birthday afternoon tea celebration and it was a delightful experience. We were greeted with champagne and the best service menu (from the finger sandwiches to the delicious bespoke cakes to the vast selection of teas) The pianist played in the background until he played happy birthday and a bespoke cake was bought to the table. There was also a gluten free option for me which was delicious. The decor and ambience of the room perfectly complemented the friendly welcoming staff too.
google avatar

Nathan C.

Yelp
It was an amazing experience. I would rate 6 stars overall if available. Every food item from top to bottom was all freaking delicious. I had 3 each of twi kinds of sandwich! Desserts were carefully decorated too. Had 150 anniversary something tea blend and the taste was full of surprise. Although I can't remember anymore, staffs explained all items presented. Of course the service was more than nice. This was the experience I as a tourist was expecting. Should come back if I visit London again.

Yelp
This IS English tea at its finest. Definitely a great place for a special occasion, especially if you're ready to bring out that fancy hat that has been sitting in your closet. I had the Palm Court tea blend, which was a nice, light, fruity tea. The scones were excellent. I thought the sandwiches were good, but did not meet the extraordinarily high quality and presentation of the other treats. The desserts were spectacular. They looked like something out of Alice and Wonderland! A feast for the eyes and the palate. The live piano music made for a lovely touch. I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Sylvia K.

Yelp
We had the children's tea. Sandwiches very good, adult desserts excellent. Service and atmosphere excellent. 49 pounds for adult with 12 percent service. My son thought children's sandwiches were icky but liked hot chocolate. Kids desserts were adorably shaped like animals but not very tasty. He loved his teddy bear they provided though and it's only 10 minute walk from hamleys toys afterwards.

Yelp
Charming place for Lunch or High Tea- located inside Langham Hotel. The service quality is High- The food quality is lovely- The decor is Traditionally Devine.

Yelp
Afternoon tea at the Palm Court was a wonderful, amazing experience. I took my three daughters - 6 year old twins and a 7 year old. I was apprehensive, and not sure how kid friendly the experience would be. But it was perfectly orchestrated for them! They had a book trolley that the girls visited several times, they got to drink strawberry tea, and interact with their food. Whoever designed the menu and experience must be an expert in child development - because it was very developmentally appropriate. The staff was very kind and understanding, let the girls have more of anything they wanted, indulged multiple requests for different beverages (they offered fresh squeezed juices, hot chocolate or strawberry tea. We tried them all!). It was also delicious and lovely from an adult perspective. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
This is the first time I tried afternoon tea. I chose this place over others because it is more traditional. We first started with bottomless sandwiches, which were so fresh. Each bit truly represented the flavor of the sandwich. Then we moved on to the bottomless scones, which came in two flavors - plain or fruits. The ambience was super cute as well. If you have children then you can make a reservation for them and the place will give them a teddy bear and a separate menu. Finally there was a selection of five very beautiful and rich desserts.

Yelp
I'd never had high tea in London before so I did plenty of research before I zerod in on the final decision. I was visiting London for a few days and wanted an afternoon tea with a non-traditional menu in plush surroundings. Everything on the Bijoux menu sounded ridiculously good, so my sister and I went with high expectations. Everything from the tea to the food was excellent. The tea sadwiches were all prepared on different flavored breads and all had good fillings other than the usual cucumber or smoked salmon. One thing to note is if you are used to American scones - don't expect the English ones to be the same. These were far sweeter and a lot softer. The mini desserts on the top tier were almost too pretty to eat. Of course they always look better than they taste. But all the details were too cute to miss. The theme of the tea was designer jewels so even the mini pieces of jelly or sugar garnishes were cut in the shape of precious stones. The pink Chanel stamped chocolates were too pretty to eat. The huge drawback though was the service - it did not match the price tag. We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated (even after having made a reservation months in advance) and were waiting almost half an hour just get a menu! I am not exaggerating. The first 15 minutes were fine but then it becomes ridiculous. And even after placing our order just our tea alone took forever to arrive. We tried not to have it spoil the afternoon since we looked forward to this event for such a long time. However the lack of good service definitely put a damper on things. Not the free flowing service we had anticipated. (1 star for service) Look forward to good tea and accompaniments but don't expect to get spoiled.

Yelp
Afternoon tea here was so nice! A lot of people seemed to be celebrating special occasions (ie birthdays). The restaurant is really really beautiful. You can try as many teas as you'd like, although I stick to apricot white tea because it was so lovely. You start off with sandwiches and savoury bites (they come around with trays of more so you can always ask for more of your favourites!) followed by scones and sweet pastries. The pastries were absolutely phenomenal. I really really enjoyed each one. Lovely atmosphere and would definitely recommend their afternoon tea!!

Yelp
Had afternoon tea here for $40 pounds/person in Sept 2013. The decoration and ambiance was wonderful. There was a pianist there that was amazing. Great music, fantastic food, tea was very good. The tea sommelier took time to explain the teas to us and make recommendations according to our taste. Granted this is the only real high tea I've ever had in London so my scoring maybe a bit skewed but I felt the quality of the finger sandwiches and scones were fantastic.

Yelp
Waited 30 minutes for a cold sandwich that tasted like it was for Denny's. Our server however was really nice. The food was bland was took forever. Will not eat here again.

Yelp
Beautiful interior with a piano in the corner. We came on a Wednesday at 5:30 after booking a reservation a few weeks in advance. Ordered the Bijoux Afternoon tea (52 quid) which came with a 15% discount and glass of champagne (check your booking email). Overall it was nice experience, different than your typical afternoon tea, but the food was less memorable than expected. I liked that the sandwiches were in brioche rolls rather than crustless bread (thank god). Desserts were good but some of them were too sweet. Savories: Foie gras and smoked duck with granny smith apple Lobster cucumber and shisho dressing Smoked ham, aged comte, garden peas and truffle (favorite) Foreman's smoked salmon and brie with pickled apple puree Piquilo pepper flan with candied pineuts Scones: Basket of mini chocolate scones, which were nice and warm Desserts: English Rose Garden chocolate cremeux and financier Elderflower and Greek yoghurt pannacotta Lightly roasted pistachio and apple sour diamond Hereford strawberry and lemon Battenberg with lime jelly truffle Abstract passion fruit and mango dome

Yelp
Truly incredible Afternoon Tea experience - we felt like queens. They give you a stool for your purse, pillows for your chairs, extra of ANYTHING (sandwiches, scones, cakes), a gorgeous live piano playing in the background, AND a complimentary mini cake to take home. Not to mention, the interior of the hotel is spectacular. I could not have asked for anything more.
google avatar

Dennis S.

Yelp
The service was outstanding! Probably the best service I've ever experienced, fast, friendly and welcoming. The afternoon tea was delicious and plenty. The live piano music was great, classics from the 80s and 90s. Of course, it's pricey, but a wonderful treat.

Yelp
There is nothing more sophisticated than Afternoon Tea at Palm Court in the Langham, so I figured where better for a sophisticated female much like myself to grab some amazing tea, and see what this afternoon tea malarkey was about! Rocking up to the Langham in a dress and shoes, yes I put in a lot of effort for this; I was amazed at its outer beauty, having seen it every day from my office I didn't expect to be so impressed! If you're ever around Oxford Circus I'd take a look! Stepping inside we were escorted to Palm Court, and it smelt simply divine. My work colleague was right, I'd never want to leave. Our table was so cute and very well laid out. I instantly felt at home with our waitress and the delights she had to offer us! We obviously got the original cucumber sandwiches, which we were out of this world, and a few others including egg, chicken and salmon. We even went for second helpings as they were all too tasty. Secondly we were brought up a selection of scones, and as a newbie to these traditional yummies, I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing they were. I'd always thought they were stale, odd looking cakes, but no, I had been wrong for many years! The cream and jam were just amazing too! I had to stop myself from eating a second as I wanted room for desert. Wow, is all I can say about the last course, such cute little cakes, with popcorn and sparkly icing, I had never seen anything like them. They were so good our lovely waitress even made us a goodie bag to take home. To top it all off, the pianist played Happy Birthday to my mother, whilst she got a divine chocolate and caramel brownie to delve into! Such good service! If you have the money to splurge on something like this, then I would highly recommend giving it a go. The tea menu was one of the longest I had ever seen, and they keep it flowing! Such a lovely afternoon out!

Yelp
I would give this place a five star if our waiter had not left 40 minutes into the tea and we were left abandoned. The food and atmosphere was amazing!!!! Loved it all, the manager sent scones, jams and tea home with us as an apology - but when your dropping £60 on a tea the service is everything and we were forgotten for an hour... then realized the start was rushed as the waiter knew he was leaving... food was excellent on every level and loved the live piano!

Yelp
Our dinner experience was surprisingly sub-par. Although the food was nice, the service was extremely slow.

Yelp
We found High Tea at the Palm Court at the Langham to be delightful. True elegance of a bygone era. The prices are actually quite reasonable considering how attentive the staff is and how long they let you stay. The service is not about turning over quickly or getting additional tickets in. Everyone knew us by name, and it was our first time. Combining this experience with some shopping at Selfridge's (5 blocks away) was a perfect Sunday. My wife and I were deciding where two New Yorkers would like to go for an afternoon tea, and had Sketch recommended my multiple people. I am so glad we came to the Langham instead. First Class. Glad we

Yelp
Ah, i was so disappointed in this...when you are spending 70lbs for afternoon tea + a glass of champagne you would think the service would be better, the food would be better...It was just a very underwhelming experience when you compare this to the four seasons in the UK. This isn't as luxurious...everything was sort of plain. The champagne was good. The sandwiches just weren't anything special....i had maybe like 4-5 then moved onto the dessert which was just WAY TOO SWEET. I nibbled and did not get seconds... the tea was okay, i got the regular black afternoon tea which is always good then switched to the 90th anniversary tea which i didn't care for. The woman that was pregnant..oh wow, she did NOT want to be there! She looked soo miserable and ignored us when we tried to wave her to get our server. Our server was very nice but i don't know where she was most of the time. The piano player is a nice touch, but he left before afternoon tea ended which was a shame. I really want to say good things...but this experience just wasn't worth the money and i will not come back.

Yelp
I was visiting London for the first time and decided to try a classic English afternoon tea at none other than The Palm Court at the Langham. I had high expectations because The Langham is known to be among the best. The food was fine, some better than others but I've had better quality, taste, and assortment at SOHO house. The atmosphere is amazing, with properly set up tables and chairs. They also gift teddy bears to children, which is a nice touch. However, the service was a big disappointment. For most of the meal, service was attentive and polite but not intrusive. About 1.5 hours into our tea time, however, we were ignored completely and our waitress was nowhere to be found. We thought her shift may be over, but I saw her attending to a larger party sitting behind us. Instead, we had a new waiter but he was never introduced and he was not attentive to our table. At about 2 hours, the manager came over and insisted that we either switch tables or leave because this particular table was reserved for another incoming party. Now everything makes sense - they were trying to kick us out. I think there were other ways to handle this, e.g., come over at 1.5 hours and explain that there's a 2 hour window only and introduce our new waiter. Instead, we were ignored and then treated rudely by the waitstaff and manager. It still took them 15-20 minutes to get our check, despite claiming that we needed to get out ASAP. While afternoon tea is generally a positive experience overall, the food was mediocre (tea was great!), but service was lacking at the Langham. Try afternoon tea in other places, or even the tea room of nice department stores (Selfridge's). I've had better afternoon tea in Chicago.

Yelp
Great experience. Superb trio playing throughout the afternoon, don't miss The Pink Panther theme performance....... Felt the scones were dry and the sandwiches lacklustre but the sweets, tea range, service and ambience were fabulous. Booked in advance via an app and wasn't made aware of minimum charge of £47 per person, there were four of us. We read the condition on the menu and I explained to the manager we only wanted 3 teas between four of us and he was very accommodating. Impressed. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Amazing last minute birthday meal at the Langham hotel, Palm court. The ambience is relaxing with a live band playing soothing jazz tunes through out the meal. We went for the top table offer which was very reasonable, 3 course meal for £32 excluding wine. For starters I had a cauliflower soup which was very rich and creamy but homely feeling. The main was a 28days aged rib eye steak with rich red wine sauce; this as so soft and juicy it melts in your mouth. For desserts I chose the profiteroles filled with hazelnut praline and drizzled in hot chocolate sauce. As full as I was, I couldn't resist the dessert choices. My fiancé had the vanilla cream with caramel sauce. All in all one of the best service from the waiter

Yelp
Lovely afternoon tea which I would recommend to anyone trying for the first time or wanting to do it the right way. Sandwiches especially were delicious and unlimited. The champagne kept coming. The environment was so lux and posh I felt like a princess. The dessert was beautiful but wasn't that tasty. And the tea which was the langham blend just tasted like camomile. Still beautiful afternoon tea that I would recommend. The service was spectacular.

Yelp
Lux, style, and history. This place has it all. Visited in April 2017 and had a great time. The service was excellent and the staff were very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. The extensive tea list is impressive and offers a variety of herbal, fruit and traditional teas from India and Asia. The food did not disappoint and we received sandwiches, scones, cakes and other sweets that were well made. We were treated like royalty! Thanks Palm Court.

Yelp
The Langham Hotel was rated to be the top place to have high tea by British Tea Guild (whatever that means) last year. The "Palm Court" room welcomes its visitors with a slightly tacky Art Déco flair, with massive chandeliers and silver-coloured walls. It looks grand, but the decorations (glitzy balls and silver stucco) stuck to the wall could have been reduced which would have allowed the architecture to come through more nicely. However, entertainment is provided by the Langham's in-house pianist, which adds nicely to the atmosphere. The dress code seemed fairly relaxed and I was feeling slightly overdressed wearing a jacket and tie. There are different "packages" on offer for high tea, including the top offer setting you back 56 GBP (which does not even include the bubbly). The choice of tea is quite large, but several of the more interesting teas cost extra (sometimes as much as 20 GPB), so if you are really going for it, you could easily spend around 100 GBP. The choice of sandwiches was really nice with extravagant ingredients such as foie gras and an outstanding piccalilly spread. The sandwiches come as wraps, string pastries and mini baguettes which is nice diversion from the dull sandwich bread so often served at other venues. Considering the price, at least sandwiches were re-stocked and one could have as many as one fancied. The scones were served warm, but a spread different from the slightly boring strawberry preserve would have been appreciated. The cakes were nice, but a bit dull as well especially since the choice and quality of pastries in my opinion differentiates a good from a great afternoon tea venue. Staff was very friendly but quite slow which may have been due to the size of the room. That in my opinion was quite disadvantageous since we were only given a 1 hour 45 minute time slot and wasted the first 40 or so minutes waiting for the orders and the arrival of the sandwiches. All in all a nice experience with nice food (especially the sandwiches, the rest not so much), but considerably overpriced for what you get. Service could have been improved as well.

Yelp
Out of all the Afternoon teas I enjoyed, this dining room was the most beautiful save the gorgeous waiters at Apsleys. I loved the tea towers that house all the tasty treats. The scones here were amazing: served warm with the usual accompaniments of clotted cream and strawberry preserves. The tea here has a distinctive pink theme - it takes a very comfortable man to indulge here. My only issue was a small snafu with my bill - they charged me for three champagne teas when we had the classic afternoon tea. It took them forever to fix it. At the end of my tea, I saw that the table near us had ordered the Bijoux tea. I came down with a serious case of tea envy.

Yelp
Having thoroughly let down my little posse of friends who revel in the clotted cream and muffin side of life by taking them to Bea's of Bloomsbury (bleurgh and yuk) I had much to live up to. Having heard that the Palm Court at the Langham hotel had been renovated I decided to go all out, roll deep and swim in the clotted cream there. This is apparently the place where the high tea, the afternoon food stuffing, was invented by some ladyess and it seemed only fitting to go back to basics. And by basics I mean silver, effusive French service, refinement and beauty, perfect cake after perfect cake, sumptuous sandwiches never ending and pitch perfect tea. Basically Palm Court wins, the most superior of the cream teas I have had for a long while (hands down trounces that tourist trap Fortnum & Masons). The best bit about it all is the time, when I rang and asked for a table they said that unfortunately they were very busy and I could only have the table for two hours. I laughed at this thinking who needs more than an hour to eat some assorted sandwiches and stuff. So so so wrong. As we settled into our seats and forced creamstuffs into our mouths I could have spent much much longer. Next time I get the champagne. Price - £ about £40 a head with service. However, this is not a tea, this is a late breakfast, combined with a lunch and a donation towards your supper as well.

Yelp
The best afternoon tea in London!! I am an avid lover of afternoon tea, having done the whole menu, planning, making and doing the service run at cordon bleu, my expectations are very high!!!! I've had plenty of afternoon teas at various establishments but nothing quite like this. I have always loved the langham hotel, very grand in its exterior, sits tall just off regent street. I was greeted warmly by the host and taken to my table. The menu was carefully discussed to me and immediately my choice of tea and champagne had arrived. Quickly to follow my amuse bouche which was a lemon posset. Absolutely delicious, a great palate cleanser. They catered to my needs as I requested veggie sandwiches. And boy did they deliver. I was so stuffed on sandwiches that I couldn't stomach the best part. But once the tall tier was shown to me, my stomach knew it was in for a treat and wow. Every single petit cakes complimented each other so finely, there is a given order in which you should eat them, always ending with the richest chocolate mousse cake. One of the best treats I have had. The only let down for me were the scones. I had been looking forward to them and once I ate one, it was dry and very eggy. Much to my disappointment I had to allow them and move on. My teacup was regulary filled as well as my champagne glass. I even changed my tea free of charge, which you do not see in many establishments. The servers were very pleasant and chatty, not too obtrusive. Best service and best dessert I've had in such a long time. After my experience, I was given a complimentary nougat which was very nice. Hats off to Cherish Finden, best pastry chef in London!! She is the mastermind behind the magic that happens in the kitchen!!! Highly recommend to anyone wanting a nice, special afternoon. 9/10, it would have been 10 if it wasn't for the scones

Yelp
If you're looking to experience tea the way you believe posh people enjoy tea, the Palm Court delivers. Great service, extravagant digs, live pianist, lovely china and smashing sandwiches and scones. I recommend the earl grey/breakfast blend for tea, and I recommend bringing your mom...who will love every bit of it. This is not a tea shop tea. This is a swanky, fancy pants tea. It's fun and an experience, but save it for special times only.

Yelp
Afternoon tea is just amazing. Probably the best I've ever had. Scones are amazing. So are the deserts. Beautiful place, with high ceilings and traditional english interior designs. Great ambience in the room. Just feels like 18th century. Piano was played the whole time when we were there. Staff were super friendly and attentive.

Yelp
In love, with tea-time!!! I will continue to sip with my pinky pointing up, and savour the fingerlicking good sandwiches, and pastries, topped with the plain and raisin scones! absolutely DELISH. beautifully presented, soft live piano in the background, and plenty of room around the table to allow for good conversation. The room is grandiose, and the patrons generally well behaved. You WILL get your share of birthday cupcakes flowing around to every other table, so by the 8th, you're almost ignoring it's going on around you. A fine tea experience, I look forward to repea-tea-ing :)

Yelp
Difficult to imagine, but I have actually had better scones on an airplane. 'Pastries' were glued to plates and had the feeling of being pre-fabricated. Much too sweet, it felt like a Disney version of afternoon tea. Moreover, staff were demeaning and appeared to just be going through the motions. Go to Fortnum's instead.

Yelp
I am part of the "stuck in London massive 9cm snow storm 2010 that has shut the city down" crowd. So I am on a high tea review kick and found the Langham today because it won an award that is basically the Academy Awards of tea. The sandwiches are THE BEST. I loved them. They have a turkey, duck egg, salmon, tuna, and cucumber...all done in spectacular gourmet fashion. You might have to go just to see the creamer container. It was a struggle not to put it in my handbag. Very pretty china. The desserts are yummy. They all have a markedly different and unique flavor (sometimes they all run together at tea houses). The scones are okay. I was told that two people just today told our server that they were the best they'd ever had in their life. I lied to our server, of course, but those people need to scone around a bit more. The hotel did an extensive remodel last year. Everything is new and elegant. However, I am not a fan of the room itself. I prefer the fabrics and sofas and plants type look. It's a bit more modern than my taste. Let me say again that the sandwiches are excellent, they beat the Dorchester. The pastries also beat the Dorchester. Doesn't matter, the Dorchester wins. It's the overall experience.
