Palm Court at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz in Madrid is truly a beautiful place. The atmosphere is elegant and refined, and the service is nothing short of graceful and spectacular. The waiters are both elegant and genuinely friendly, making you feel warmly welcomed from the moment you arrive. However, please! This hotel needs a better chef. While the environment and service are outstanding, the food sadly does not live up to the same exceptional standard. That said, I will certainly return for the ambience and remarkable service, though perhaps next time, I’ll order a little less from the menu.

We just stopped in for a quick little drink on a hot afternoon. Drinks were standard, they served some complementary lime almonds, cashews and chips. Service was impeccable as you would expect. Beautiful space and amazing lighting from the enclosed atrium. I would go again for an afternoon tea on a future visit.

I visited on a summer vacation. I stopped for a break after walking around Madrid, and enjoyed cava and snack foods. The service of the staff was excellent because it was known as the finest hotel in Madrid. The cava pours it out, and the quality of the snacks is very high, and it's still reasonable. I was able to enjoy a luxurious time. I would like to stay overnight when I visit again.

A nice restaurant for a quick lunch. I had gazpacho soup and a cake for dessert, and both were delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service excellent, and the restroom clean. It’s a great place to recharge between visits to the Prado and Thyssen museums.

Wonderful setting for an afternoon tea. Service was sub-par and the food was good, albeit scones without clotted cream (going as far as calling and affirming that ordinary whipped cream was clotted cream) is underwhelming for an institution of this calibre. Price was good for the place and quantity of food.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Ritz, Madrid Timeless delight at Palm Court A proper Afternoon Tea experience is part of every stay at Mandarin Oriental Madrid. Here you can enjoy sweets without regret. Exquisite teas of TWG Tea Company, a mix of deserts, hearty sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream offer the perfect opportunity to socialize with friends and loved ones. A very special Afternoon Tea experience awaits you at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz in the heart of Madrid. The atmosphere with the Christmas tree in the middle of the Court of this luxury hotel, beautifully decorated, is absolutely unique. In celebration of Cesar Ritz introducing Afternoon Tea to Madrid, the Palm Court serves it every afternoon, between 4pm and 6:30pm - revisited by Quique Dacosta. The price is EUR 48 p.p. and including a glass of Champage Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial EUR 62 p.p.

Everything here was PERFECT i would give service 5 stars, but unfortunately one of the waiters was impolite and treated me and my adult daughters and son with impoliteness for no reason. He objected to our food choices and preferences, he waved his hands at my kids whenever one of them wants to order acting busy writing on the ipad. Finally, he asked my daughter to stop eating chocolate because, according to him, it is not allowed by the management... then i I told him that this is not true, and i had to ask other employee to stop him from serving or approaching my table.

One of the worst food I have in a 5 star hotel. I was here for a short rest in the Palm Court ordered coffe and tea and a dim sum selection. My wife's coffee is ok, not exceptional, my tea is TWG good quality as usual. The worst is the dim sum selection. It was like reheated by a microwave oven medium heat for one minutes. The 2 dumplings with totally dried out edges. The shaomai (with salmon roes on top) were also with dry wrapping. ( Please refer to the picture). After I paid I told the waitress why I didn't finish the dim sum dish because of the bad quality and she immediately report it, which was good. The other lady possibly the supervisor offer her apology and would like to compensate us with something but since our original intention was to have a rest before going to the museum of prado, so we did not take any offers. Instead I emphasized that I would just want to provide comments on the bad food the hotel is serving. The biscuits that came with the drink were very good BTW.

Yelp
Dinner at the Palm Court on 30 October 2024, was nothing short of spectacular in all respects. Everything we ate including the croquettas, simple green salad, and steak-tartar were sumptuous. As one would expect at this price point (approx. USD200 for two persons) , even the amuse-bouche consommé and end-of-meal sweets (truffles; macaroons) lived up to the billing. Service balanced that fine line between ubiquity and inconspicuousness. I appreciated the complimentary taste of a Spanish Syrah after consuming all of my Godello during the main meal. Pity there are so few restaurants like this left in New York City!

Yelp
Hotel Ritz, now Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is once again the standard for excellence in Madrid. Between Mandarin Oriental taking over management and an expensive facelift, the Ritz is living up to its history and its name. The public areas and guest rooms are beautiful while the service is impeccable. Wow!

Yelp
This review is for the mandarin spa only. If you're staying at the hotel or nearby highly recommend booking a treatment. We did a 90 minute couples massage in a private suite and it was amazing. We arrived an hour early to use the spa facilities. The spa has a steam room only, no sauna. The steam room was great with the perfect amount of heat/steam. There is a pool with a waterfall as well if you want to take a dip. The water is lukewarm. The locker rooms are pristine and nice but not huge. Two rain showers in the men's locker room with awesome pressure. The massage treatments were world class. We were so relaxed that it was hard to leave the room after the service was complete. Only slightly awkward part is you take an elevator to go to the couples suite and may run into hotel guests while in your robe.

Yelp
Beautiful old world luxury. Afternoon tea 4-8pm Lovely selection of freshly made sandwiches, pastries and "English" scones with a variety of jams and creams. As well as, good variety of teas. There's also a pianist for one's entertainment. The suite was very warm and comfortable.

Yelp
The Ritz Madrid has a perfect location on a tree lined street in the best part of the city. The rear of the property is directly across the street from the famed Prado Museum. This is the main reason I return. There is always a nice mix of guests including individuals, business people and very few small tour groups. It is not overwhelmed by tourism. The staff is very gracious, professional and extremely accommodating. Our suite is in a traditional style of appointments. The bathroom was modern and beautifully appointed with a great variety of products. Room service after a long flight is the best. The Ritz Madrid is by far the BEST when it comes to pet friendly luxury hotels.

Yelp
This review is of Krug Bar only. Krug is located in the lobby area of the Ritz. Beautiful and luxurious furnishings, and stunning artwork. Located a short walk from Del Prado museum. We stopped for a few drinks. They served a perfectly shaken cosmopolitan and beautifully done Manhattan. My daughter had churros and chocolate and that is a must. My husband had a cappuccino and it was perfectly done. Prices for martinis are $25, expected for the Ritz. Service unfortunately was not excellent, servers were not attentive. Each time I had to call someone to get a drink, annoying, specially when paying such a high price. The perfectly made drinks is the only thing that kept me for a second and a third drink.

Yelp
Decadence indeed and high tea in the afternoon is mindfully done with superb teas but lacking creativity outside the traditional. I prefer the Mandarin Oriental for that reason but don't get me wrong, this is a lovely space and quite social in the afternoon at tea time. The world walks through these doors and I'm glad I did too as it was a great respite from the urban buzz. Try the oolong as it was a true blue and although not the best I've had rather tasteful. They've 50 year old teas too so clearly a great buyer us in house!

Yelp
The Madrid Ritz is a very special experience. It is centrally located right next to the Prado, and within a 5-10 minute walking distance of many great sites. The Ritz offers all the elegance and opulence you would expect...outstanding meals, lovely dining rooms, and attentive service with great help, friendliness and advice. Food was excellent and rooms were comfortable. With that said, I give this a 4 and not a 5 because: rooms were relatively small, their fitness center is meager and needs to be expanded and updated, and they lack a pool or other 5-star amenities. Overall a great experience...but expensive and you certainly pay for name and location. It is worth a stay...and the service was exceptional...but they can do a bit more to get to a 5-star.

Yelp
We went to the restaurant here. Great terrance view with nice soft music. Had the best paella of my life. Very tasty indeed but too expensive unless its a special ocassion. Was treated by a friend with wine, paella ad dessert. Totally recommended if you want to have a good time, with great spanish food or a romantic date.

Yelp
In addition to Afternoon Tea, The Ritz also offers an Afternoon Chocolate. Let that sink in. The menu (see photo) offers five grades of chocolate, and my husband ordered the puro e intense (80%), while I indulged in the Crema de chocolate blanco (35% white chocolate). Drinking chocolate is a truly decadent experience. I tried to be fancy about it because we were at The Ritz, but I felt a lot like Augustus Gloop. At least I didn't run my pinky down the sides of my cup or the lovely container it was served in. Don't think I didn't want to. The chocolate is of course the main event, but there are other factors that made it a lovely experience. I enjoyed sitting on a settee rather than a table with individual chairs. It's cozier that way. In addition to the chocolate, we enjoyed a typical tea service that included savory sandwiches, scones and little desserts, and we enjoyed all of it (don't judge). We found the servers to be helpful and subdued. Lastly, the hotel is next to the Prado, so basically the afternoon goes like this: see the Bosch masterpiece, walk into an elegant hotel and drink chocolate. I mean, perfect, right?

Yelp
An unforgettable night.. My first time in Madrid... walking back form the Museum of QUEEN SOFIA.. had just seen the authentic and real "GARNICA" Picasso painting.. had an unbelievable feeling... then we went to EL PRADO Museum.. I had just saw the MENINAS... feeling great.. we decided to venture into THE RITZ. We were greeted with warm and grace and directed to the lounge bar. I was really in a great place.. right in front of pictures of Salvador Dali and Federico Garcia Lorca, Grace Kelly and other very famous people. Having a DALITINI... and enjoying my presence in this very charming and opulent bar I listened to a very beautiful song... "Cuando Calienta el sol" a great instrumental version... while I kept enjoying myself, I kept hearing more and more music from Mexico.... and I am thinking.. wait a minute.. where am I? DONDE ESTOY???? so I ask the staff and they told me THE RITZ was celebrating a MEXICAN Week at the hotel and to come to the other room and hear the Mariachi Band. Well for me.. it was a great treat, since I love live music .. we then order some finger food that was delicious, to go with some Spanish Cava. The Hotel preserves the history of times and is very well kept. The staff again very professional, The Mariachi Band was great. the singer was more like an OPERA and we really felt lucky to enjoy such concert that night. We truly enjoy ourselves at this magnificent and historical hotel. We will return. PS about the DALITINI, there is a story about how it was created. What I remember reading was the following: Salvador Dali went to THE RITZ hotel, to get a hair cut. Somehow while he order a martini, he cut his finger and he saw the blood on his drink.. Now they pour some delicate drops of grenadine syrup into the drink.. it is a light sweet martini with the drops and all...

Yelp
It's the Ritz. You know it's going to cost 10 euros for a cappuccino. If you're not prepared for that, and don't have someone to pay for you, then you're in the wrong place. We found ourselves sinking into the plush sofas of the ground floor lobby bar, after a business meeting had to be rescheduled meaning we didn't have time to travel to their offices just outside Madrid. 'Is it ok if we meet earlier at the Ritz instead?', we were asked. Is it ok to swap a grey office for a 5-star hotel lounge complete with live pianist and carpets so soft and spongy you wanted to roll around on the floor?! Errm, yeah I think we're ok with that! Admittedly the pianist was slightly distracting, scribbling notes was slightly awkward with the notepad on my lap rather than a desk, and I was definitely more mellow in the meeting than I could have been. But the setting was fabulous, as was my pricey coffee. There were enough small groups scattered around for both business and pleasure that no one batted an eyelid at 4 people chatting audibly about the profit margins on branded pasta. After the meeting we had a train to catch, so in the interests of time had a quick lunch in the terrace restaurant. Similarly easy on the eye with lots of white linen tables and vivid blue sun canopies, all set off by the blazing sunshine overhead and yet another pianist - though I suspect it was the same chap who'd been sent outside for the lunchtime slot. The staff were superbly accommodating and professional when we told them we only had about 40mins to eat. I went for a speedy salad which impressed me both with the eye and to taste, being a particularly colourful collection of some of my fave things - goats cheese, avocado, raspberries, beetroot and plenty of leaves. It was the cherry treat on the top of our Madrid trip and I felt very lucky to get a meeting in such a lush setting. Beautiful toilets too!

Yelp
I thought the Ritz Hotel was perfect. It is NOT an affiliate of the Ritz Carlton, so don't get confused. The room was large and beautiful with windows that opened to a wonderful courtyard below. The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful. All in all pretty much everything you would want from a hotel in a different country. We would definitely go back

Yelp
Great hotel next door to the Prado. Our room was beautiful and our bathroom was so romantic that my fiancé and I took a bubble bath together in it. :-) Be sure to experience High Tea some afternoon as it was a delightful experience. Their breakfast is a worthy splurge. The Terrace at the Restaurante Goya is a must weather permitting.

Yelp
My husband I recently stayed here on a short visit to Madrid. The hotel is absolutely beautiful - very classy and elegant and I loved the common areas. They also have a beautiful outdoor garden/terrace where you can enjoy drinks or appertifs. The reason I only give it four stars is that our bed (the sheets, etc.) was not very comfortable. I found the sheets to be somewhat stiff and did not have a restful sleep as a result. I am not sure if this is how they make their beds or just our room.

Yelp
This hotel is the place where kings and presidents stayed in the old days. It is full of so much history its amazing. The hotel is covered with hand made carpeting from the royal tapestry house in madrid. You will never see another place like this. The service is impeccable and the food is amazing. You do pay for what you get.

Yelp
I'd be surprised if anyone gave the Ritz less than 5 stars... even though the hotel is a bit old and weathered, the service is IMPECABLE! Stopped in for high tea and sat in the salon. Our waiter was very charming and helpful. Tea was delicious!!

Yelp
The staff, the staff, the staff. Old world charm abounds at this classy hotel in the heart of Madrid. Love the location, the rooms, the abundant closet space. Huge bathrooms and the Salon is a fantastic addition giving plenty of living space. The daily fresh fruit and almond cake seals the deal. Love this hotel!

Yelp
Had lunch here with some colleagues and the food was amazing. It is on the expensive side but completely worth it. The decor is impeccable and the place feels like a palace.

Yelp
Unfortunately I should have trusted my first impression. The hotel looks old, tired and dirty. Nevertheless I decided to proceed with my reservation given that this is a Mandarin Oriental property rated as 5 star luxury. This could not be a more inappropriate misrepresentation of my experience of the accommodation and the service rendered. Let me start with the punchline. Two days into my stay I begin feeling itchy in the middle of night. I woke up, got up trying to understand what was going on ... only to discover bed bugs! .... now the best part ... When I reported it to the front desk I was faced with denial and dismissal. I had to go back to my room, take pictures of the bugs and even capture a couple of them in a plastic bag as evidence so they would acknowledge that we both have a problem! They moved me promptly to another room and assured me that the problem would be taken care of ... not the moment in my mind for hotel management to say "please trust me that I will get rid of bugs that spread like wild fire, feed on blood and can be carried to your very own home via your luggage!!!" My recommendation is simple: stay away from this hotel until they have finished their complete renovation in 2018 and have assurance that their cleanness standard has been revised.

Yelp
Lovely Old-World ambience, but the WiFi really made staying here challenging! We had two rooms on the 6th Floor for the weekend and it seemed like they needed more Access Points for us up there!, our kids didn't have any bandwidth to connect to!

Yelp
The Ritz is located near the fashion district and museums in downtown city core. This will be the second time we have stayed at this hotel, and it will be the last. For return requests who are part of the American Express's Fine Hotels of the World program, the hotel was not very gracious on our return visit. Our room was so small you could barely move around in it. It was the smallest hotel room we have ever stayed in. Most five star hotels give return guests on the AMEX program generous room upgrade to suites, but at the Ritz you receive nothing, in fact, on each return trip, our room got smaller not larger. The WIFI (which is free for guests) does not work so it's impossible to get connected to the Internet; the lights in the room have to be either all on or all off which means navigating in total darkness in the middle of the night if you need to use the washroom, the air conditioning did not work so we had to sleep in oppressive temperatures and the concierge team prefer to send their guests to local restaurants to help them get business rather then to good high quality restaurants with good food. We have had the same problem with the concierge team on two of our visits. There is no reason to have a bad meal in Madrid as there are many famous restaurants, so to be sent to a bad restaurant because the concierge team knows the restaurant owners, is not right. This trip marks the first time that I could not wait to check out of a hotel.

Ken H.

Yelp
I am staying at the Ritz hotel in Madrid and have not been impressed. The reception and concierge service was good but after that things fell apart. The room was stuffy and the AC barely worked. It was 104F. The breakfast was brought in from outside so everything was cold and no options for hot prepared food. The staff was rude and when we needed an escape from the heat we while our room was being cleaned we were told we could not sit in the open area outside the lobby because of my shorts. The guy with the old jeans is fine but my new knee length nice shorts are a problem. Other days the supposed rule was not enforced. When I go on vacation I pay extra to be treated well and have a nice environment. I am not being treated well. Still here. I WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN.

John E.

Yelp
I would say its a little bit overpriced for an old hotel, but definetely great service.wifi works super fast - which is often a problem at hotels in Madrid. I've stayed at the Urban Hotel last time, which was a modern hip hotel - Ritz is definitely classier and the rooms are much bigger. We've had club sandwiches at the lobby bar, it wasn't great and overpriced, for 30 Euros you can have a decent meal in a fine restaurant in Madrid

Yelp
My oldest son and I stayed in Spain for a week splitting our time between Madrid and Barcelona where we stayed at 3 different hotels. This hotel ended up being our least favorite. The positives on the hotel are the location is terrific, you are in walking distance of a short metro stop from most of the major museums and a lot of great restaurants, the concierge desk was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and nice, and the breakfast in the morning was outstanding. The biggest downside for us was the very loud wall banging construction that took place from 8am -6pm daily and although we were generally out of the room for most of the day we typically tried to take a break from 4-6pm to rest our legs from walking all day. We could not rest at all because the wall banging was literally happening right next to our room. Our room was also fairly small in comparison to the rooms we stayed at in Barcelona, another Ritz property, and at the AC Santo Mauro a Marriott property. The rooms were also dated, I love the old charm but some things did not work well like our lights, the air conditioner was very loud and the door key was tough at times. I also felt the atmosphere was super stuffy and pretentious, more so than any other Ritz I had ever stayed at and far more than the property in Barcelona. They even had a note card telling you what the attire was for just being at the hotel, I believe they specified 'smart' casual. We still greatly enjoyed our stay but If I had known about the construction I would have stayed elsewhere, the cost was too high to have to deal with that type of noise and outdated, small rooms.
