Palm Court - we've lived in this area for almost 40 years. In all that time, we've said we wanted to try Palm Court but only did once we went on December 30, 2022. We had reservations for 6:30. Given the reviews I read, I expected a long wait after we arrived. No, we were seated right away. They put us by the window. It was cold out, and the windows were drafty. So, we asked and they moved us to a warmer table.
We had a nice, relaxing meal and good conversations around our table. We ordered drinks first - a Pinot Grigio, a Martini, and an Iced Tea (for our designated driver. The meals were a combination of steaks and vegetables.
Pinot Grigio: There were two varieties available by the glass. Since we ordered a Pinot, I'm still determining which one we got. I was very good.
Martini: Vodka, dry. It was okay. I think the waitperson misunderstood when I said "no ice" to think I said "no olives." No matter. As it said, it was alright but far from the best.
Vegetarian Platter: There were a variety of seasonal vegetables served in butter (yum).
Filet Mignon: For a filet, this was a very large cut - 12oz char-broiled covered with butter. It came with your choice of potatoes and grilled carrots. It also came with their house salad. This one was with ranch dressing. It was ordered medium and was cooked perfectly. We ordered a side of mushrooms. And we ordered bearnaise sauce for the steak. The waitperson should have remembered to bring the bearnaise and the mushrooms. We asked and they returned with the mushrooms about 10 minutes later. The sauce never showed up.
I ordered the USDA Ribeye (20oz thick prime cut full flavor). This was an enormous cut of meat. It was well-marbled, but it was not trimmed well, so there were huge chunks of fat and tough meat so it was about 12 or 13 ounces - still large. It came with a salad - I had their house dressing, a garlic vinaigrette. The salad and dressing were very good. I also had baked potato and carrots. I also ordered asparagus, which came with bearnaise sauce. I can't eat that, so I left it for the Filet. (I also had a second martini.)
We ordered chocolate mousse for dessert. Again, I can't eat due to dietary restrictions, but I was told it was excellent.
Service: Service was fair. They were relatively quiet, so the service was surprising. Our waitperson was absent for most of our meal and I already mentioned forgetting some of our meal. When we were ready to leave, they were nowhere to be found. I had to ask a busser to find our waiter.
When we received the check, we were charged for the bearnaise sauce included with the asparagus and the sauce they didn't deliver. it took a few minutes for our waitperson to understand why I disputed the charge, but $8 atop a $200 meal is still $8. They did revise the bill before we left.
So, in sum, while I've been to better steakhouses, this has large portions, including rolls and either soup or salad with the meal. The vegetables were perfect, and the filet was also done perfectly. The service is fair but certainly okay. And the prices are considerably lower than in a traditional steakhouse.
I do want to try it again. They have a very good menu with many options, so there is much left to try.
