9 Tulum-Inspired Restaurants In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"There's a good chance Paloma didn't intend to look like a Mexican boutique hotel. After all, it's not a Mexican restaurant, and instead a mediocre (and pricey) French-Italian spot with a gorgeous patio. And like every scene-y restaurant in Tulum, Paloma is so dark it's a borderline safety hazard. The minimal light from candles and woven lanterns is the only thing stopping you from publicly wiping out, but it’s still dark enough not to realize that the bougainvilleas framing the patio are actually fake. Overall, the romantic space is undeniably pleasant, but probably not enough to forgive the bland $24 penne pomodoro." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren

First time stay here at the Proper. Atmosphere was great. Loved the convenience of having breakfast at the Palma. Shoutout to our server, German. He was so sweet and his service was excellent. I left my sunglasses and he saved it for me. He actually tried to run out to find me… food quality was great too. I would consider coming back!

“You won’t regret it. The brunch menu is complete, and the flavors are out of this world. I ordered a Palma Burger with a mimosa, and let me tell you, the experience was incredible. Congratulations to the chef and the whole team for making the place welcoming, relaxed, and free of any bad vibes. If I return to Los Angeles, I’d come back to this spot for sure!” Att: Carolina

If you want a real 5 star dining experience with spectacular interiors, I'd recommend Casa Del Mar right on the beach, over this. We came for the famous Kelly Werstler interiors and they did not disappoint but don't come expecting a conventional dining experience. Most people where seated to dine on low lounges or like us, in awkwardly uncomfortable small cane chairs. Looked beautiful, but not practical. The service was very average, certainly not to the 5 star attentiveness you would expect, for example I had to roam around and find someone to ask for some pepper. The food was good, they kindly swapped out the pasta to make it gluten free so points for that, but it wasn't anything spectacular I couldn't make at home. Again, you really come here for the interiors because that's about all that lived up to the 5 star experience. Long story short, order a drink here, get your photos and go.

Nick the host here really made our experience worthwhile. We came in on a Friday night 7/25 and he was so friendly and really made our friends and I's experience. Walking in felt intimidating since it was our first time there and we were not staying at the hotel. We were not sure if we were able to take a table because we did not know if it was a private event, and Nick immediately called us over as we were confused and looking around. I work in hospitality and his customer service was really top tier. Restaurants and hotels need more workers like him!

Had the most amazing time at Palma lounge. Food was great, vibe was immaculate and our server Francisco was THE BEST! He had awesome recommendations for our food and drinks as well as dessert… which we LOVED. We had a great dining experience thanks to him he even threw in some Santa Monica tourist attraction sites to see for our weekend trip up in LA. 10/10 recxomwnd this spot. Make sure you ask for Francisco and get the vodka pasta with the steak and truffle fries, you won’t be disappointed :)

They charge higher than the menu. The bill which was charged was higher than menu. I have pictures of the menu and the bill as proof. Please see pictures. This is very dishonest as a restaurant. Customer service was terrible as well. We waited for half an hour, no one came to ask us even for drinks. When we asked for water, waited for another 15+ mins. We ended up just had a very rush lunch when food arrived since we had to go to next event. Will NEVER come back. Do NOT recommend.

The only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was tasty albeit very overpriced. There was an attempt at a theme, maybe a couple themes, but they fell flat. First of all, the description says there is art. There is no art, there's hardly anything on the walls, there's weird chairs for you to sit in, but that's about the only thing that isn't part of the design of the building that they can take credit for. Second, we were led to very deep couches around a coffee table for our dinner reservation. Most of the seating was this configuration. There was 1 proper dining table in the restaurant only, and it was taken. I picked the most couch friendly entree I could find, which was cacciatore. No idea how someone is supposed to eat a steak on a coffee table whilst reclining in an oversized chair. The worst offense was the music. It was as loud as a high school prom in a gymnasium. It was impossible to talk with my dinner guests, and my ears hurt so much that I finally got up and paid for the check at the bar because I couldn't bear waiting for them to come back. Mind you, we had been left to our own devices for about 20 minutes since the last check in, so I'd say we suffered. Overall, $215 for 2 cocktails, 1 vegetable appetizer, and 3 pasta dishes with no proteins. My appetite was gone way before the food was.

We had a wonderful dinner at Palma. Our waiter, Kollyn, was fantastic. I highly recommend the oysters and arincini to start. Our entrees were wonderful as well. I had the Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka and added chicken which I highly recommend. The cocktails were outstanding as well. I had the Crash and Burn. Palma’s selection of wine and champagne was impressive. If you’re in Santa Monica, dinner at Palma is a must!

Yelp
This review is about the high tea experience here at Palma: My mom and I love to try new high tea restaurants and tried the one here yesterday. It exceeded every expectation we had! The presentation, the food, the service, the ambience, and everything in between was perfection! We left incredibly pleased with our experience! The high tea here is either $85 for the assorted food, tea of your choice and one glass of champagne. There is a $105 option as well for the same thing but the champagne is unlimited. We got the unlimited. You also have the option to make your tea hot or iced. I suggest hot as high tea is served hot. As for the food selection, everything is absolutely delicious! It's filling too. Whoever is behind the scenes creating the masterpiece of food does a wonderful job! Lastly our server, whom I forgot the name of, was phenomenal. He explained everything for us and made our time here the best day ever. Can't wait to be back! And if you want to have a nice fancy lunch with friends or family, come to Palma! You will have to pay for valet unless you park elsewhere, and it was $24 for the couple hours we spent.

Yelp
Beautiful interior set in a hotel lounge with a beachy, paradise vibe. The food was delicious and flavorful. Service was excellent.

Yelp
This review is for the afternoon tea. AMAZING! My girlfriends and I like to check out different afternoon tea places around LA and this one rates high. The lounge has a great vibe the service was attentive. You get a choice of either one glass of bubbles or bottomless. We opted for one glass. The cup of tea itself was lovely but it was the food that was amazing. It was super plentiful so come hungry. Lots of little tea sandwiches - smoked salmon on a mini bagel, cucumber sandwich, endive with cream cheese, crab salad and a delicious radish sandwich with salted butter. Each sandwich was better than the next. Then a plate of sweets - scones, cakes, pudding - yum. There's no such thing as too much food but I couldn't finish it. Such a nice experience!

Yelp
Afternoon tea Went here today. Like the lounge feel with the diverse seating options. The bar is picture worthy and the staff are warm and nice. The tea was $85 and had a good selection with a large amount of food and comes with a glass of champagne. It's not the same flair as some of the high end tea experiences in the area but it's comfortable. They have background music but no live music. No food substitutions. The actual tea is ok. They also offer a brunch menu which is not like other tea experiences. The blue crab roll and the charcoal cucumber sandwich was was really good. Will go back!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and decor. We came in for an afternoon tea. Our waiter Jeremy was great until he started upselling everything. The only option for water was "still" or "sparkling". Brought us a $12 bottle of "still". When asked if we wanted the afternoon tea of single glass or more, we asked for a single bottle. He then came around offering another round of prosecco "don't mind me" just pouring some making it seem like it was on him. This was misleading and disappointing. Our bill was much higher than expected because of this.

Yelp
We got the afternoon tea service at the Palma lounge area in the proper hotel. There is a valet parking right when you pull into the front of the hotel. The food was great, the afternoon tea includes five sweet and savory items and a choice of a tea (either hot or cold). The ambience is relaxed, plenty of sunshine beaming through the drapes so the room is bright and has a wooden and plant like feel. There's a cool library or beach room nested in the front of the restaurant. Overall a great vibe

Yelp
I love the Palma so much I come here every year on my birthday! The food is to die for and the prices are pretty good! The drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else I've ever been. Service is great! Super sweet wait staff. My favorite things to get are the Rosemary bread, vodka rigatoni (to die for, one of the best vodka pastas I've had in LA), truffle fries, and the Italian Gin and Tonic. Overall this restaurant is the hidden gem I share with all of my friends who end up frequenting this spot too! Favorite dinner spot in all of LA!

Yelp
Great food, warm service, and cool ambiance specially during weekends when DJ' playing in Palma.

Yelp
Alejandro and our other servers this morning provided great service and the food was very healthy and good quality. They didn't use seed oils to cook our eggs which is important to us. The pancakes were great too. We are staying at the hotel and everything has been great so far, beautiful zen design and no overpowering smell of perfumes or cleaning supplies. Highly recommend for relaxing delicious breakfast!

Yelp
This place is as great every single time. Had their parmesan fries. Seriously very delicious!! Must try when you come. Cooked to perfection. The hosts/servers and bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable of the menus. Love their smoothies!! And salads are good too. Definitely enjoy the atmosphere here. Street parking can get crowded sometimes however when you do find it(meters, its fairly cheap). The ambience here is just fantastic. Great for a-lot of occasions. Great place to lounge at day, or dress up and feel fancy. This place is very beautiful all around. Definitely worth the hype!!! Everyone is welcoming and friendly. The drinks are just as tasty and amazing They have a restaurant upstairs called calabra which open around 6pm ish. Prices are fair, based on the quality of food! Definitely enjoy it every single time.

Yelp
What I love the most about the Palma lounge at the Proper Hotel is the decor and cool vibe. I've gone several times - for dinner, brunch and just drinks. I'm a huge Kelly Wearstler fan and adore every single piece at this location. The food here is decent. It's nothing extraordinary and the portions are definitely on the smaller side. The drinks are good and my encounter with the bartenders have been pleasant most times. I do think it's a little overpriced (food and drinks), but I guess that is common at hotels. Just to give you an idea, last night I stopped by after an event and got an espresso martini, which came out to $30. My friend got a mocktail, and it came out to almost $20. Overall, I still recommend this place and will be going back.

Yelp
We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon tea with gracious and attentive servers and a delightful assortment of sweets and savories. Despite our late arrival they were still able to seat us, even though it was past time for tea service. Interesting space, like one big lounge area. Hard to tell where the lobby/lounge ends and the restaurant begins.

Yelp
Palma stands out by fitting in so well with the attention to detail, ease of movement of the staff, relaxed luxurious setting and the ever changing organic decor, it is relaxed fine dining. We had four dishes and they were all delectable, just proper dishes, executed well - from sourcing to plating to serving. The Hamachi (Yellowtail) Crudo paired with the blood orange Agua chile was refreshing, a tad spicy and a beauty to ogle. The Câpres Salad featured heirloom tomatoes with a balanced balsamic that was not overly sweet nor acidic and blended well with the burrata mozzarella and basil vinaigrette (which was a tear drop sorrounded by olive oil), again well plated. The Heirloom Bruschetta seemed to feature sugar bomb tomatoes and not heirlooms, and this worked better due to their sweetness. The bruschetta (bread) was harmoniously dense and airy with a crispy crust that added texture. The artichokes were beyond any artichoke dish I have had, the whole produce was edible, it was paired with a lemon Aïoli that perfumed your sinus cavity with an amorous lemon scent and the unctuousness that coated your mouth transported the phenols.

Yelp
First stay here for me. Loved breakfast here at the hotel. Our server, German was wonderful! He was very kind and provided great recommendations & service. Lovely atmosphere all around at the Proper.

Yelp
Amazing place, we made a reservation for Sunday brunch but it's pretty empty. Very spacious and gorgeous place. It's inside the hotel. Service was amazing, friendly and attentive. We also saw Adam Sandler and his wife in the restaurant. Interior decor is absolutely gorgeous, so if you want a chill beautiful quiet place, that's the one. We shared crab cake with husband and was very crabby and tasty. I had Turkey club. Potion was huge! Definitely enjoyed it! Also had a nice tea with a cookie. Husband had a burger and friend had a soup. My club had a salad with it which was good, fresh and tasty. Great place! Definitely recommend!

Chloe S.

Yelp
Really delicious dinner not sure why this place doesn't have higher reviews. I'm a food snob and fully enjoyed the lobster pasta, artichokes and crudo!! Cocktails were perfect too. We're staying at the hotel, 10/10 all around.
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
Restaurant is located insider the Proper hotel, on the ground floor next to the lobby. Both the hotel and the restaurant are absolutely gorgeous - beautiful design, pleasant lighting and relaxing music! Very enjoyable atmosphere!! 10/10 Service at the restaurant was very good! The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Food was the least enjoyable part of the experience, it was very basic and nothing to rave about. Spicy rigatoni couldn't be any more sad; fried calamari were good, salmon was okay. Food isn't bad, just way too simple and unimpressive. It's definitely a great date spot, a place to get a cocktail, relax and enjoy the pleasant ambiance. Highly recommend for its atmosphere!

Yelp
If you are looking for a spot where service has a European or non-American 'enjoy your time and don't rush' flare to it, this a fantastic option. I went here for Christmas dinner and we were a party of 3 and the entire experience was an absolute DELIGHT. We were seated in their library and the whole thing just felt so special. The service was top notch, our hostess remembered my name and used it multiple times and that was a first time. The drinks were delish and our meals were chef's kiss! I am a maximalist so the design, my heart skipped a beat:) We will definitely be going back for dinner and want to try brunch as well. I personally would recommend this spot if you are looking for a proper sit down dinning experience!

Yelp
Waited almost an hour for avocado toast, then my coffee order came out incorrect - TWICE. Don't remember the name of the server, although sweet, she was lacking basic server knowledge. Unfortunately I won't be back.

Yelp
Went for their incredible Afternoon Tea. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, who helped us was incredible. So attentive, welcoming, and warm. In addition to the excellent service, the tea offerings themselves were to die for. I was with a large group for a birthday and all of my guests were blown away. The best part? You are seated in the fabulous and famous Kelly Wearstler designed lobby. Go, you won't regret it. (P.S. Proper Hotel Management, please recognize your outstanding Palma staff from the afternoon of 01/04/2025! And note that your very "meh" staff on the rooftop could learn a thing or two from them...)

Valentina S.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful restaurant! We went for lunch and tea for friends a week ago and had the best time. Service was excellent and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Jessica Y.

Yelp
Not sure why this place isn't rated higher! The ambiance is super unique and our breakfast was incredible. Loved the proper breakfast - it's a really good mix of protein, veggies and carbs! Basically free for us with our breakfast credits included with my travel agency. All the staff were super friendly. Only thing to note is that they don't have a bartender in the middle of the afternoon. So beer and wine only during those times. I'll definitely come back again!
google avatar

Reza M.

Yelp
Ambience is nice but food is below average and prices are very responsive. Service was good but tons of Better places for food around here.

Yelp
One of my friends is an investor at Palma so every chance I get, I try to frequent this restaurant. But no longer. The restaurant is insisting on charging $100 prefix menu for brunch if you want to go there with more than six people. In the past, when we've booked multiple tables, we put everything on one check with no problem. Spending $75 for brunch is more than enough. I had a reservation for an 80th birthday brunch for one of the hotel guests who is flying in from Sacramento - and now have to cancel it notifying all 14 people that we cannot meet there. In this economic uncertainty it is a wonder why restaurants turned down business. We easily booked the outside patio for 14 people at the Draycott without a pre-fixe requirement. That is where I recommend that you go. Not this place Aditya Kaul and Jeanene Bautista - you have lost a recurring customer forever.

Yelp
My wife and I headed Palma on a date night. The primary reason was to see the Kelly Wearstler-designed decor followed by food and drink. While some of the elements are a bit over the top (highly subjective) the entire space is a treat for the eyes and manages to take a space that could feel cavernous and detached and makes to warm, inviting, and sumptuous. Unfortunately the rest of our experience went downhill pretty quickly from there. We are arrived within a minute of our reservation and were sat immediately (so far, so good). We sat at the table for 20 minutes without a single staff member approaching the table. At the 10 minute marked we asked the couple at the adjacent table who the waiter was (none were to be seen) and they said they were done, they had planned to get dinner but were stopping at drinks. At the 20 minute mark my wife flagged down a staff member (I am going to guess she was the manager) to ask if they could take an order. At this point we were getting annoyed but she turned the evening around. She placed took our order, delivered the drinks, and then hand delivered our waiter (30 minutes into our visit). Honestly, she handled the entire situation with grace, charm, and efficiency. From that point on the service was attentive and friendly. The food menu is limited but competent and tasty. I think Palma could be a solid 4-star dinner location and 5-star bar but it gets a 3 for now.
google avatar

Sally P.

Yelp
The food good, but overpriced. Service was mediocre. The ambience is California cool, with nice booths and seating for large groups.
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
Don't go out of your way to visit this restaurant. My husband and I were guests at the hotel and went two times to Palma for breakfast and cocktails- both times we were extremely dissatisfied by our level of service. The problem started with the hostess seating us next to a rowdy pair of gentlemen even with ample other tables available- seems like they seat guests towards the front to make the restaurant appear busier. Eventually we asked our server if we could move tables- apparently this was the largest ask, and took the backburner on her priorities. We must have waited 10 minutes for the approval to move- my husband and I constantly trying to make eye contact with one of the multiple servers standing around having conversations, seeming to ignore the fact we were unhappy and uncomfortable. At our new table, we were served the wrong cocktails, no communication was had, 30 minutes later we had our mediocre drinks. Both occasions, we felt the carelessness of the workers. We went back for breakfast to give it a second chance- big mistake. Slow slow slow service, no water upon arriving- we were asked if we had been helped multiple times before seeing our server- probably waited half an hour for running eggs and a smoothie. I think our biggest disappointment was the fact that there were so many workers, but none willing to help the customers. Go to Ardor in WeHo instead- price matches the service

Yelp
What I ordered | Truffle Fries ($13 ) | Fritto Misto ($27) | Tiramisu ($12) Taste | truffle fries were great. calamari was good too. would prefer if they had more pieces of the cod. but I did like the variety of seafoods and zuchinni in the fritto misto. Tiramisu was from the Vanilla Bake shop. I would not recommend the tiramisu. the cake itself was very hard and the the liquid poured on the tiramisu was not throughout the cake. Was not a fan of the tiramisu. Service | server was good. food came out quickly. Notes | dogs are allowed in the restaurant. located in the Santa Monica proper hotel.

Yelp
First, oh my goodness the interior of the restaurant is divine. It's cozy but so aesthetically pleasing. Our waiter was super kind and attentive and had great recommendations. The food was delicious and we each enjoyed our plates. The coffee was just as good.

Yelp
This place is located at The Proper Hotel. Friday evening after work, this place has a nice size crowd. Not sure how many were hotel guests vs local guests but valet did seem busy. Dress is casual, dressy casual. Parking here is expensive and they do not validate....not the restaurant or the bar. Keep that in mind. And if you come to this hotel...have somewhere to be. Someone will ask you if you need any assistance getting anywhere in this place. The waitstaff all dress in monochrome....it's the trend, right? It looks good. The hotel inside display organic tones. The architecture of this place is super sexy. The interior design is very hip. You'll find lots of texture here....I wanted to touch everything. Service was fantastic. Waitress was very attentive. Bus staff is a bit too eager to clean the table but very polite. Sometimes you want to use the sauce for this over here but the sauce came with that over there but it's all gone. We're still dippin, honey. Give us a min. Fried artichokes hearts with a lemon aioli, olives and pecorino, Spanish blue fin tuna, kale salad and these deep fried rice balls, I think that's what is was....anyway, everything was exceptional. I'd order everything again. And then dessert. Tiramisu isn't my favorite dessert but it was tonight. It was so good. And a chocolate cake...again delicious. I'd like to come back and try the lamb and parmesan cheese fries here at Palma. I'd also like to come try the breakfast. There is also a rooftop restaurant by the pool. Great views. Lots of heat lamps but if you come in the winter, bring a coat. It was cold up there. Also saw a private enclosed area for private events. I want to come back and bring more friends.

Nicole P.

Yelp
Awful overpriced food (i.e. the plant based burger) and the service was terrible. The host was so unwelcoming and weirdly strict about where we could sit even though it was completely dead. I love the interior design but wish the ambiance and hospitality was better.

Ryan T.

Yelp
The drinks were nice, I don't think they were anything special. The ambiance was really nice. I wish I could have decorated my home with the furniture in the bar area. The service was not good. The bald waiter hit on my date to the point that she was uncomfortable. I will not go back. However, that shouldn't stop you from going.
google avatar

Javier S.

Yelp
Located inside of the lobby of the Proper hotel, it's pretty spacious but seating can be limited depending on the time you go. Got 7:30 reservations on a Thursday so we had options to choose from. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I chose the Rose Palomita as my drink of choice and if you like cocktails on the sweeter side I'd recommend this one. For dinner the server recommend the burger I'm not a huge burger person but this burger was amazing the jam definitely was a great addition. My friend got the salad with Brie but they only put 3 cubes of cheese on the salad which was insulting but the server came back with more. I like within walking distance so I'd definitely come back for a drink.
google avatar

Tony D.

Yelp
All the cool kids hang out at the rooftop bar, but my wife and I enjoyed the lobby bar just fine for happy hour. The afternoon menu was still decent and there were only 1/2 as many people taking selfies downstairs compared to the roof. That's a win for me. We opted for a few drinks and a charcuterie board. The service was polite and friendly.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
I'm an L.A. native and Santa Monica local, excited to have a new hotel bar/lounge to put in rotation for happy hour, girls night or date-drinks. MAIN REASON you'd come here is for the unique, eclectic, light and airy "California casual" design. Probably appeals more to a female crowd, but definitely a good spot for a more relaxed but still trendy drinks-date. CONS: Predictably expensive. $20 cocktail. $20 small pasta. $15 small "personal size" flatbread" etc. But for a hotel of this caliber you'd expect to pay these prices. Service was a little "all over the place", but I'll let it slide because everyone was very nice and it felt like it was just growing pains with management/staff getting back into the swing of serving a crowded bar/lounge (post pandemic). Limited menu if you're super hungry and want a lot of options or decent (dinner) size portions... or have dietary restrictions. (The menu is basically charcuterie or "market crudite" board, multiple flatbreads, a pasta, lamb meatball or one salad option). PROS: Large variety of seating arrangement and different couches and nooks for small group sizes. Food came out insanely fast! Really nice, personable staff. Very surprised that the sourdough mozzarella flatbread was as goods it was. Did not expect that. Small (one-person), but crust was so fresh and flavors were perfect. I'll be back and would recommend it for locals wanting to try out a cool new hotel bar/lounge spot.

Yelp
Excellent drinks and Avocado Toast!! Located in the Proper hotel, cozy living room type setting with couches, chairs n tables for chatting with friends, enjoying a Fountain of Youth wellness shot of Watermelon Mezcal Margarita they were amazing! It was the perfect spot to wait 15 minutes for my room at the Proper to be ready, which was an excellent idea! The Avocado Toast was Amazing and the best ever! Avocado toast will never be the same elsewhere. The host and wait staff were friendly and did an excellent job! The whole Proper hotel is just a fabulous experience and already planning my next trip. Palma will be 1st stop for drink before going to my room and Avocado toast n wellness shot each morning.

Yelp
After years of admiring the Proper from afar (outside of Philadelphia), I finally found myself in LA. I couldn't afford to stay here but just wanted to see and experience the lobby, if only for a single cocktail before dinner next door. On a frigid Monday in March, with a lobby half empty at 6:15, Andrew, the host, told us every seat at the bar and throughout the "lobby" restaurant was booked. We weren't staying at the Proper and clearly had no status. When I asked simply to walk through, we were rejected. I understand such protocol during COVID, but for a host to do that on an idle Monday in March 2023 -- not even to let someone pass through -- feels wrong. I ask management at the Proper to revisit their hiring, their policies and their choices.

Dana G.

Yelp
Beware of 5% added charge on your bill. when we asked Mike, the manager, what the added 5% charge was for he said health and incentives the staff. I said , sounds like an "operating expenwe" you want me to pay for. mike said "it's standard in California ". As a native born CA, I can say it's not standard. it's not about the money...Very tacky manager, tacky surcbarge, not going back.

Yelp
I returned back on Saturday and was warmly greeted again by the manager. He provided me with the utmost kindness and respect and provided us with a secluded table. He's an awesome manager, and the service was great. All three of us at my table enjoyed the choice of an 8 ounce steak. The Slice of Chocolate was greatly appreciated by my guest. I thought She was going to lick the desert plate.

Yelp
The ambience and decor are amazing. I loved it here and thought it was a great place to have a drink and hang. We were here on NYE and had a late dinner. The service was incredibly slow (2.5 hours) and I could tell we were not the only ones that felt annoyed. I witnessed one man continually trying to flag down a server who just kept walking by and ignoring him. I also witnessed another guy that was seated in the library area with his wife get up and go to the hostess and let them know that they were ready to order. Our waiter never checked in and didn't ask if we wanted additional drinks. We had to ask a busser for the check since our server was M.I.A. It operated like a lounge vs. a restaurant. Not everyone just wanted to chill out all night but the lack of attentiveness left us spending the majority of our night here. Fortunately we were staying on property but if we had other plans this would have been infuriating.

Yelp
One of the worst managers I've ever encountered: Planned a birthday reservation for 8. In advance of coming, we asked what the cake cutting fee would be, and the restaurant replied 5 dollars a person. We came with the cake and placed it on the table and our server did not take the cake, cut it, or mention anything about it the entire night. After ordering food/drinks, I proceeded to cut the cake myself and serve on spare plates I had brought just in case. Night proceeds as usual, and no mention of the fee. Upon receiving the bill, the server charged us an 8 dollar/person cake fee for doing nothing. When asked about the fee, the manager came and claimed they usually charge 10 a person and only after arguing and showing the manager the original email quoting 5, he claimed that they were "doing us a favor" bringing it down to 5, despite not providing the service they were charging for -- mind you, the cake fee is in addition to a "5% service charge" (misadvertised as 3% on the menu) and a "20% hotel location fee". The waiter proceeded to bring a new tab and mischarged us again. After confronting the manager again, he blamed the mistakes on having a full house, claimed that we brought more people than the original reservation (untrue), and never apologized once. Having managed many establishments myself, I tried to level with him and said "I get what you're dealing with, I've been there", and he proceeds to say "I doubt it" and that they should have "thrown us out for what we did". The level of complete disrespect, and trying to take advantage of a situation which was the restaurants' mistake is completely unacceptable. Between the fumbling with pricing, overcharging, and sense of righteousness, the feeling I got is that the restaurant receives many tourists which they know they can take advantage of. At this point we left without a tip and I will never be coming back. Food review: Ordered a mojito which came with zero alcohol. The hot chocolate was watered down, but had a nice foam, similar to a cappuccino. The one highlight was the truffle fries, which were well done and a large enough portion to share with 2-4 people. Ambience: Nice atmosphere with a good vibe. Would have liked the music slightly lower, but was not unpleasant. Overall, I would not recommend this location. Between the poor management and high pricing, this is not worth what you are paying. Plenty of competition down the street at equally, if not nicer, hotels that do not charge BS fees.

Yelp
I love it here! While I can't speak for the food, I can say the drinks were delicious! I e been here a few times now and I can say it's probably one of my favorite places in Santa Monica. Butch really knows how to make the drinks, and he's a great server! Kelley Werstler did a great job designing this hotel! I love it and I'll be back soon!

Yelp
The menu looks very over priced for the choices they have. When my burger & salad arrived, they looked tired and the salad was stale. No presentation what so ever. The beef Patty was juicy but very hard, it took forever to come and I didn't see other people eating. I still give 4 stars thanks to the helpful and friendly staffs who steer away from my tripod and another staff offered to snap a photo for me. 3 hour metered parking and all the furnitures I can play and try seating on. Kids and adults alike playing musical chairs feeling the chairs feel on their butts and spines. So I follow suit and it's mighty fun. I really like the sun filled lobby lounge, a bit warm but it's relaxing. My bf didn't complain at all sinking into their really nice orange leather couch playing with his phone while I took photos.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night and sat at the bar downstairs. We were helped by the sweetest bartender Richard! He took great care of us, ask for him!

Yelp
I mean, the space is five stars for sure. It feels like the 70s (or at least what this 90s kid imagines the 70s would feel like) with some gorgeous modern touches. All of the shapes and textures are totally perfect. If I could plop down and drink cocktails in those buttery leather chairs for the rest of my life, I would. I got here around 5:30 on a weeknight and it was kind of a ghost town, which I was actually pleasantly surprised by because the last thing I wanted to do was fight for a seat at the bar. It seems like all of the spaces are first come, first serve (at least at that time of day), so I cozied up in one of their lounge areas which was a total vibe. I was surprised to read the rocky service reviews as I didn't have that experience at all. Both our host and server were super on top of it without being *too* on top of it, if you know what I mean. I ordered one cocktail--the rose palomita--which was on the sweet side but worth ordering for that gorgeous ombre color. They divide their cocktail list up into "refreshing" and "aromatic" which, by the looks of the ingredients, means "sort of boozy" and "really, pretty boozy." They also have a full food menu with good things to eat whilst drinking (antipasti, cheese plates, etc) and classics like burgers and chopped salad. We didn't get the food this time, but I was impressed by how much they had for a hotel lobby. It's a fancy hotel lobby in Santa Monica, so YES it's going to be expensive. Like, $7 for a club soda and slice of lime expensive. Of course this isn't the type of spot I'd be hitting up every day, but when I need to feel like a 1970s queen, I know Palma's got my back.

Yelp
We had originally made a large party reservation at the rooftop, Calabra, in celebration of our friend's baby shower. The morning of the reservation, it was POURING rain. The team stepped up, came together, and was able to not only accommodate our party of almost 20 in the lobby lounge, Palma, but they also were able to put together a last-minute menu for us to have the family-style service we requested in Calabra. Kelly Wearstler sets the ambiance of the space which was a perfect backdrop for our event. We had a wonderful time and experienced excellent service from everyone all around. The valet, hosts, reservationists (Ashley), managers (Donny), service team (Krissia and Jonathan), guest relations, and even reception. I can't thank you enough for making it so easy to plan this special event. Also, the food was exceptional. Thank you to the kitchen team and chef. I still dream about the breakfast burrito. We'll be back!!

Yelp
This bar was such a lovely treat. My husband and I came by for a nighcap and couldn't have had a better time. The main reason being was our bartender, Richard. He a as so accommodating and informative and truly made our night. The proper rum punch reminded me of why I love Santa Monica in the first place. We'll definitely be coming back!
