8 Essential Restaurants to Visit in Summerville, SC | Eater Carolinas

"Self-described as a “modern, yet affordable restaurant,” Palmetto Flats is home to some of the best flatbread options in the Tri-County area. When visiting, try one of the open faced, flatbread options such as the cheeseburger flatbread which comes with ketchup and mustard base and is topped with crumbled hamburger, bacon, red onion, diced dill pickle, tomato and cheddar cheese. Or get one of the delicious flatbread sandwiches like the turkey or the Italian tuna." - KJ Kearney

Google
Totally excellent brunch spot on a weekend! Paige was outstanding, thoughtful, and attentive. The food was delicious. Pecan French Toast and Shrimp and Grits were our favorites! Will absolutely be back.

David Floyd

Google
The food was okay, the portion was a good size, especially the fried flounder. The fries were kinda greasy and seemingly not fresh. I would give this place another visit just to be sure.

Google
First time here and it was absolutely fantastic!!! Our server Mel was a great help. She was so informative with everything and the food didn't disappoint! The okra basket was cooked to perfection. The breading wasn't heavy and evenly coated each piece. The Chicken Marsala was the best I've had. The sauce is made in-house (as is all the food and sauces) and tastes so amazing. The potatoe casserole was great, too! My daughter enjoyed her buffalo chicken sandwich and said the fries were really good. Definitely recommend this place and will be back!!

Palmetto Flats in Summerville is a hidden gem that combines Southern charm with a fresh, flavorful menu. From the moment we walked in, the wait staff and bartenders were incredibly friendly and attentive, offering great recommendations and making sure we felt right at home. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for both a casual lunch or a nice dinner out. The food exceeded expectations—creative dishes with local flair, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Whether you’re enjoying seafood, steak, or one of their delicious appetizers, it’s clear the kitchen takes pride in every plate. We’ll definitely be returning soon!

Google
Update 9-17-2024 I came here for dinner and tried the chicken panzanella salad. It was very delicious and filling. I love coming to this little cozy restaurant. The staff is always super friendly and they remember the customers names. The food is always good my go to menu item is the Basil chicken flatbread - OMG is it delicious. They always have weekly specials along with their regular menu items.

Google
Ive been here several times for brunch but never lunch. I always order the fried okra and they give you a generous portion. I had a flat bread BACON, lettuce and fried green tomatoes with a layer of pesto. This was the best BLT I’ve ever had. I will return for more okra. Must dine in to savor the food.

The Grits & The Flounder Sandwich & The Cheesecake & The Sweet Tea Were Soooo Yummy & My Dad Loved His Prime Rib & Mel & Austin Were So Nice To Us

Google
Jaiden was wonderful and so was the food. We had the prosciutto flat bread and the pecan crusted flat bread. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Stumbled in here after hearing chatter about this place for many years and wish we did sooner! Love the menu, and it was such a treat to get some good pierogi! Staff was so friendly and there were definitely tons of locals pouring in because staff seemed to know half the place by name, which is always a great sign. My old fashioned was traditional and perfect, and drink prices are SO reasonable!

Yelp
Went here the other night for dinner. At first the waitress was fast and friendly. There was a few people sitting in my section when we began. The whiskey sours were strong and potent. My wife ordered the blackberry martini. Our appetizer the burg fries came out, nothing special, but was ok. My wife's drink came out wasn't what we expected, but ok. I ordered the blackened chicken Alfredo, my wife ordered a sandwich. The chicken Alfredo wasn't the best. They don't use Alfredo noodles, and the sauce was orangeish with a different taste. Overall not bad, but not typical Alfredo. My wife's sandwich had some spice sprinkled onto it, which gave it a little bite. Once the bar area had a few more people we had to ask for something's a few times before getting it, even though the bar area wasn't full. Overall not impressive.

Yelp
This was our first time trying this place. We loved the atmosphere very comfortable and quaint! It was very clean and the service was exceptional!! The brisket sandwich with coleslaw and the prosciutto flatbread were AMAZING!! I love that it's a local and family owned business!! We will definitely try again!!

Patricia L.

Yelp
Everything has been great here!! I like it because it's a local place and I'm never disappointed!!

Yelp
Fantastic dishes with a monthly special plates. Original flatbread meals, great salads, calamari tender and tasty. Love the burgers. You can't go wrong here. Friendly servers that are all smiles, helpful and not intrusive. There is live music, a fun trivia night, and other activites to make for a great night out. I do love their Margaritas! Good place for a Date Night, Girls night, out with friends or family. Feels like you belong.

Yelp
We've heard so many great things about Palmetto Flats so we had to try for ourselves. The service was great and the food was really good. Our kids gobbled theirs up and we definitely had no problem finishing ours. The dress is pretty casual and it has an upper scale pub feel. My only thing I wasn't a fan of his the sticky feel on the tables and little slipperiness on the floors. I think most places get like this with humidity though.

Yelp
Everything was awesome !! Food , service , cleanliness. Was definitely a happy find . We will definitely go back . I will say that their roasted garlic Parmesan dressing was really good. Can't find it anywhere else !!

Yelp
As many times as I've been inside the strip mall this bar/restaurant is located I've never noticed it My boyfriend took me here just for a quick drink & snack. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised to see stuff from my hometown I'm guessing the owner is from Pittsburgh which is awesome. I miss it but not the weather We were immediately greeted by a hostess but we opted to sit on the right side of the wall at the bar. The bartender was just as friendly. She gave us menus and got our drink order quickly. I ordered wings and Pinot Grigio & my boyfriend had a miller light. The wings were really good and I will definitely go there again when I'm in the area. The bar wasn't too bright or too dark and there were tvs on the wall.

Yelp
Went here for dinner. The hostess and server were friendly. The cleanliness was a little bit below average. The food proportions were small for what you pay. My wife ordered garlic bread for an appetizer. When it was brought out the runner dumped part of it on our table. She did apologize but that was all she did. No offer to bring out a new one or replace it. The entire garlic bread appetizer was also only two tiny pieces of flat bread. My wife ordered meatloaf and said it was average compared to other places. I ordered the blackened chicken Alfredo. The chicken was well seasoned but the sauce was kind of bland. The small flavor that the sauce did have was over powered by the broccoli. Plus, $18.50 for a serving amount that I could fit in a small cereal bowl is crazy.

Yelp
In Town on a road trip and found this place on Yelp. This restaurant/bar is tucked in the middle of an older strip center. It appears to be a popular place as it does not seem to be near any local draw or interstates. The staff is very nice and held several conversations with us. Very interesting menu with lots to choose from. My wife ordered the pierogies and I orederd german meatloaf with mash potatoes. We each ordered a side salad as well. The salads were a good size with tomato and cucumber. We both enjoyed our meals. The potato pierogies were pan fried and came with sour cream and onion. The meat loaf was a good size portion with a gravy on top and mashed potato on side. This was a good home town restaurant experience. Would visit again if in area.

Yelp
I have been here a few times and overall enjoyed the food, especially seasonal specials. Lately, the quality of service, cleanliness and food have gone down considerably. At lunch on a Monday, the tables and bar area had dirty glasses out the entire time we were there, the bar servicer was completely preoccupied with receipts, outbound phone calls and what was going on in the kitchen. It was not busy yet we felt ignored. The sandwich I ordered was the muffuletta and it could have been a sandwich off a gas station self. It was tasteless, soggy and the size of a dinner roll for $13. It had a side of two tablespoons of cole slaw. Beers not exactly cheap either. $78 with tip for lunch

Yelp
Great neighborhood vibe here, if you're looking for a place where everyone knows your name with a good daily menu then it takes just a couple of visits to become a regular. Check out their specials while you're at it.

Brian H.

Yelp
It was my first visit and suggested by a friend. The food was delicious, timely, hot and worth the reasonable cost. Melody is an excellent server. I highly recommend finding this little place hidden away in the strip mall.
google avatar

Alun B.

Yelp
Nice bar atmosphere with a bandstand for regular life music and trivia. My wife had the fried chicken sandwich and I had a fresh ground brisket and chuck hamburger with fried macaroni. Both on brioche buns. Very tasty. I had the cole slaw and my wife had sour cream cucumbers...several other fresh made sides available. We both enjoyed local draft beers for lunch. Nice friendly atmosphere and not crowder for Th lunch. I will check me back when I'm in town again.

Yelp
My boyfriend got a new job so I decided to take him out to dinner after his first day. We scrolled yelp looking for somewhere to eat. I suggested this place because we had never been, and we both love trying new restaurants. From the outside, this place does not look all that impressive, being in a strip mall. Inside, however, is pretty nice. They seemed to have a wide selection of tables and booths. The hostess asked what we preferred and let us pick our table. She took the drink orders for our server. The waitress came back quickly to deliver our drinks. I ordered the blackened chicken alfredo. It came with a salad to start. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I was taken back by the macaroni looking noodles. The color was also mac and cheese like. However, it didn't taste that way. It didn't taste like typical chicken alfredo either. It was delicious though, and I'd order it again. For dessert, we ordered the brownie with chocolate ice cream, hot fudge and caramel drizzle, and candies pecans all on top. That was a dankilicous dessert! My boyfriend thought it was too much chocolate. That's probably my fault though. I could have chosen vanilla ice cram or even cookies and cream. But I chose chocolate on chocolate on chocolate because that's how I roll. The whole experience was great. I got out of there paying $60 for two people's meals plus dessert and soft drinks. Which, by the way that dessert was definitely ample enough for two people to share. The service was perfect the whole way through. I would definitely recommend trying this place out if you're in the Summerville area! I will be back to try it again soon!

Yelp
We don't come here all the time, but when we do we're always pleased. The food is good. The staff is awesome. It's got a full bar talented bartenders. I sort of specialize in flatbread, not quite pizzas if your a pizza person. But they're inventive and taste good.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
Unassuming restaurant located in a strip mall. The location is easy to miss because of that. Don't let that stop you from entering. The food is good and the menu is eclectic. I had pierogies for appetizer and Jägerschnitzel as my entree. Both were very good and a nice change from Summerville's typical fare.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
My induction got pushed back for the second time and we were told to grab dinner while we waited for a bed to open up. We decided to pick the closest spot to us on a whim (prego was hungry). Palmetto Flats did not disappoint! Although my induction was later cancelled (whomp whomp), we got a good meal in together (minus the little) and found a new spot to hit up for food/drinks.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
In a word: Outstanding in every way. Once you get past the strip mall location, inside you're in for an incredible meal.
google avatar

Robert J.

Yelp
Have eaten there frequently with the food always being good, the prices fair and the service consistently good.

Vicki C.

Yelp
We had a party of about 17 people. The service was amazing! The food was delicious. Highly recommend to try them, you will not be disappointed.

Alex M.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing, all made in house. Our service was great too. Local restaurant that I would certainly visit again!
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
Went for the first time on Friday- had the fish and chips. The coating and seasoning on the fish was so good! Super crunchy and the fish was flaky. Saw the muffuletta sandwich on the menu and knew I would be back! Went back Sunday, not realizing they had a brunch menu. Becky, my server, asked if they could do the muffuletta and they did! It was excellent as well. The server from Friday recognized me and stopped by to say hello. Can't say enough about the service or the food!
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
The food is usually really good here so we ordered take out today. First, I didn't receive the drink I ordered but didn't correct it because it wasn't charged on our ticket. So no big deal. Then by the time I got home I see my second side that's offered with the chicken Marsala was not in the box. It wouldn't have been a huge deal but the portion of chicken received was disappointing too. Left feeling still hungry and not even getting the full meal we paid for.

Jeff T.

Yelp
The food was really good but the bartender needs training on making an old fashioned. I received a glass with what might of had 1.5 shots total. One shot should have been bourbon so only .5 for everything else? Nah. Not an $11 drink ever. Waitress was great and food was good. Overpriced but good. A piece of fish and coleslaw should be about 8 bucks, not 14. Guess where I'm not going back to.

Dave G.

Yelp
Went there for lunch today, first visit there and wanted to try the wings. Wanted to order only the flat wings (not drumstick) and was told they were already prepped as a mix of both kinds. Strike 1. Ordered them anyway and asked if I could get them kind of on the crispy side (Well Done). Received the wings in a state that I can only call barely cooked through and mushy. Strike 2. Ate two wings and took the rest home to put them in my hot air fryer at the house to get them to the crispy stage I requested. Overall the place was clean and service was good for a crowded lunch hour and the flatbread my friend ordered was really good so I would go with that next time.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
I've been here many times and have never been disappointed, always pleasantly pleased with the high quality of food and service! I have tried nearly everything on the menu and this time we had lunch and I had the smoked brisket flatbread with grilled onions and mushrooms! The ambiance is quaint and warm. Service is top notch and very friendly and courteous. This is one of our favorite places to take friends and family to, as well as date nights.

Denise P.

Yelp
My last review was centered on the Food. They messed up on a burger, badly. This time it was a Caesar salad. It was Romain lettuce which was 1/2 ribs. The leaves had some brown edges, they were cut with a knife and some had circles in them like an insect had a snack. It was only the lettuce and grated cheese. I would have expected bacon, or sliced red onions or maybe chopped boiled eggs. The focaccia points were good. That was the substitute for croutons.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
Very nice, cozy atmosphere. The food was good, price was comparable to other places in the area. What I thought was awesome, was if you purchased the hummingbird cake for dessert, all the proceeds went to help the hurricane victims in the Bahamas. Only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is....my Salad came out after I was almost finished with my meal. My husband said there wasn't enough Shrimp and grits. Pasta was really good. Cake was dry, but worth it for donation.

Yelp
Stopped in for late lunch after a movie. we were concerned when we arrived since there was a large group and quite noisy. We started with a potato pierogi appetizer. The potato filling was very good. 3 of the 6 pierogi were way over done. Some of the onions were burnt as well. Hubby had the fish and chips on the recommendation of the waitress. He had coleslaw and the orzo as his sides. The cole slaw and orzo were excellent. The fish was just ok, the breading was light and very crunchy. He only ate a bit of the fish. I had the brisket flatbread. The brisket was good but some of the onions were again burnt They gave us a piece of lemon cake to make up for the issues. It was delicious. Not sure if we'll be back.

Dwight K.

Yelp
This place is awesome. The food is great. The service is great. The atmosphere is just unbelievable. They got one of the best chefs in the area. His name is Mike you can't go wrong with anything this guys cooks.
google avatar

Thuy L.

Yelp
My husband and I with our 2.5 munchkin stopped by for a mini vacation. Ummm, yummmmm. Flatbreads Are freaking amazing. I got the balsamic chicken flatbread and it was amazzzinnggg. Presentation was beautiful. I got my 2 year old the fish and chips and the cod was still steaming when it arrived. The breading was yums. But didn't want to feed my baby boy that. He enjoyed it!! Fried okra side was OK, more breading than okra per bite. But seasoning was bomb. Flavorful. Service was definitely better than average. They were kind and attentive. Overall I probably would come back to try all the other flatbreads. The brisket flatbread is on my to-eat list. The beer selection was average but not bad. My husband and I enjoyed the beer we got. But I think this place must be a definitely try. Great food, live music, family friendly environment!!

Bobbi P.

Yelp
I aways try something I haven't currently partook in at Palmetto Flats everytime I go. Each and everytime, I have been ultimately pleased, happy and fulfilled with every choice my husband and I have chosen. The meals along with the perfect accommodating staff staff are beyong personal, professional and always treated us as if we were the only guests here. Considering this, I have also ordered and picked up our entries. The food is just as wonderful as if I had placed an order as dining in. They have THE BEST of EVERYTHING! While dining in, there is also live music which adds another fun atmosphere. The owner whom I regard is gracious and warm. Greeting you as someone he knows. (even during our 1st visit). I do not understand why this restaurant doesn't have 5 stars. You WILL enjoy EVERY experience and entrie you request and would appreciate at Palmetto Flats!!
google avatar

Naomi S.

Yelp
Food is great. We sat outside. The resturant is in a strip mall. Did I mention the food was great? All the food is homemade. Out waitress was Mel. She was amazing! Very knowledgeable and super friendly but not overly intrusive. We will be back for sure. If in Summerville it's a must go!
google avatar

Melissa J.

Yelp
Amazing food! It's my spot with my fiancé. We go here as often as possible. I'm in love with the chicken Marsala and my fiancé loves the Jagerschnitzel. We've have wonderful service all the times we go.
google avatar

Logan M.

Yelp
On a bit of a whim my husband and I came here for dinner! We ordered way too much food but it was very delicious. We decided to start with the perogies because where else can you order those in Summerville?! And they were delicious. When it came time to order my husband and I decided to both order the specials, he ordered German meatloaf with coleslaw and fries. (German meatloaf is part beef, part pork, with a hard boiled egg in the middle). I ordered the Italian shrimp and house made Italian sausage pasta special. Both were very tasty. There were a few drawbacks in our visit, the salad dressing for my salad was wrong the first time and it took a really long time to get our food (but I understand meatloaf does take a while to cook) regardless of these small issues, we had a pleasant experience. Side note: their creamy balsamic dressing is delish!

Sandra W.

Yelp
I have been here several times. I have taken different friends with me. Everyone was impressed. Service is excellent and the food is very good. Never have I been disappointed.

Keith W.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service and atmosphere is outstanding. Prices are reasonable and the food really taste good.

Yelp
I have eaten here several times and had lunch with the girls last Friday. WOW, it was SO good. Mom loved the tomato/okra soup (could have been heated up a bit) and the calamari was tasty as an app. I had the prosciutto flat bread and it was incredible. Mom has the pecan chicken flat bread and she loved it too. The ingredients were so fresh. They take a very thin flat bread and topped it with spring mix (just the right amount), diced tomatoes and crispy prosciutto and parmesan ... SO good. About $15 per flat bread and big enough to share, but we ate the whole thing. Service was excellent. Highly recommend based on fresh and clean ingredients and so tasty.

Cynthia L.

Yelp
Visted about 4 times now and each time the food was outstanding. I've been trying various things on the menu, but my favorite so far is the Pimento cheese Flats burger. My Mom really liked the flatbread she ordered. Very unassuming place and location, but around the dinner hour it is a full house! We'll be going back for certain.

Matt F.

Yelp
Great food. We got the blackened chicken Alfredo and it was very yummy. The blackened seasoning gave a nice spin on the typical Alfredo flavor. Mia was a great waitress and very kind.
google avatar

Gary G.

Yelp
This was my first time eating here and I can tell you, it will not be my last. I had pork cutlets broccoli and mashed potatoes. I followed that with a 22 once lager. Broccoli was perfectly done, al dente. The cutlets were done in the Italian way with a wine sauce. The potatoes were perfect as well. Everything was well seasoned and delicious. I cannot wait to return.

Brian B.

Yelp
Great service. Got the fish n chips very tasty and breading was excellent. Good location for Summerville.
google avatar

Ken F.

Yelp
Had a great Brunch! 4 of us, all had different things including specials. Drinks good, prices good, service was great. Nice place. Emily our server was great too!
google avatar

Alex U.

Yelp
Not sure if I'm going there again tbh. The Burg fries were probably the best thing on the menu. But they are fries you know? So we ordered the pesto flatbread and it was quite plain tasting. I think the flatbreads may be a little over hyped. Finally, the service was deserted feeling. Every once in a while you will see someone come out of the kitchen. Also looks like they will hire just about anyone.
google avatar

Kimmiko C.

Yelp
NY bagels and pastries! Hands down the best! Breakfast foods, sandwiches for lunch as well. Excellent deserts! Friendliest staff!
google avatar

Arien E.

Yelp
Stripmall gold in Summerville. Greeted by Megan a little blond gorgeous server that was very helpful worth her weight in gold. Palmetto Flats in a strip mall in Summerville South Carolina well worth the effort to try to find. Bar Sports Bar restaurant all in one. Right now they're doing there Oktoberfest with Oktoberfest meals and beers well worth the effort if you're in the neighborhood. I ordered the spare ribs and Kraut with a side of Brussel sprouts I'm excited to see how this turns out. Dry rub spare ribs were very tasty, sweet Brussel sprouts and very tasty sauerkraut. The bone pulled of the ribs with ease. I'm a fan of Brussel sprouts but these were so good. Palmetto Flats October fest is worth the visit. Good food, good beer choices and great service, what more can one ask for.
google avatar

Glenn V.

Yelp
At 4:00Pm you can order off of the dinner menu, which is great if you care for a late lunch gourmet Italian meal. All dinners come with two sides and one side when you order a pasta dish. The salad as a side is a great choice, quality deep green ruffage, not the yellow/white/off green 90% H2O based balls sold in the supermarkets. The homemade dill vinaigrette is a perfect addition as the blended olive oil and the fresh dill sprigs add just a hint of earthy spicy bite to the top of the palate The Butternut Squash Ravioli was one of the best meals I have had in Charleston in years. The contrast of the sweet squash meeting the saltiness of the cured Prosciutto de Parma, topped with the homemade sage infused cream sauce! Happy hour is $1.50 domestic beers, discounted house liquor (-$1.00), however no food choices during happy hour. If you care to break the chain of restaurants and bars (Buffalo Wild Wings---Wild Wings) and desire a step up in service and surroundings, I would Highly recommend you try Palmetto Flats out for Saturday college football or Sunday NFL, Tis the season!

Yelp
I love this place. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff is great. They are very friendly and really seem interested in making their guests happy. I love the chicken Florentine but tried the shrimp and grits this time and it was Amazing! If you haven't tried their homemade Parmesan vInegarette salad dressing then that is a must try also. This place is such a hidden gem in Summerville and I recommend it to anyone looking for a casual yet exquisite dining experience.
