The Best Smoothies and Juices in San Francisco - Eater SF

"Palmetto’s a partnership between a SF native sneaker shop owner and a Brazilian sister-and-sister team of restauranteurs, all dedicated to promoting “pure Brazilian açaí,” which they promise is light-years away from the açaí found elsewhere. The shop’s loyal fans agree, waiting in lines down Clement Street for Palmetto’s bowls and smoothies like the açaí cold brew, a concoction of acai, oat milk, coffee, banana, and blue agave. If that doesn’t get you going, nothing will." - Eater Staff

Google
First time trying this out after hearing about and how delicious the bowls and smoothies are. I ordered the Bay Berry with gluten free granola. Small was a perfect size snack! Only a 15 minute wait, definitely recommend ordering ahead on the QR code or app! Please give them some Air-conditioning it was a little warm inside for the Awesome staff preparing the orders.

Google
Amazing food was had. My vegan bowl was delicious with fresh fruit and oatmeal. There is not much of a vibe and limited seating, however there are some benches around the block to sit and eat.

Jenny

Google
The smoothie bowls here are really good! The fruit was super fresh, and the blend of oats was perfect. I highly recommend trying the Buddy Blend, I believe it’s only available for a limited time. A large bowl is probably good to share between two people, but I got a small, and it was more than enough for me. It was a bit busy on a sunny day, so it took about 15-20 minutes to prepare, but it was worth the wait. There is limited seating both inside and outside the store, and unfortunately, no tables outside. Worth checking out if you’re craving a fresh and filling smoothie bowl!

Every time I go visit my sister in SF, getting Palmetto Superfoods is a must. I love building my own superfood bowl with my favorite vegan options. I always order online for pick up and my food is always ready when they say it will be. Not the most expensive either and healthy so it’s a win-win. You guys are awesome! Thank you for your great service :) P.S. There is metered street parking in the area but it can be a little tricky sometimes finding a spot, especially on Sunday’s when they have the farmers market. So just a heads up :)

Manny

Google
I literally spent $17 on this. I don’t get why the large I received wasn’t full? Very inconsistent product every time I go. Wouldn’t recommend this location unless you don’t mind getting less than what you expect.

Google
I live in Washington and visited SF for the first time recently and found palmetto superfoods on Google maps looking for a smoothie shop- now I am trying my best to make this type of bowl at home but it's not the same! I will be back in 3 weeks and can't wait to go to palmetto again 🩷 soooooo amazing. And I really liked the music they were playing too, as an extra plus. It was a nice way to wake up and get excited for the day!

Google
I would not stop here to get a sweet treat unless you want to be disappointed with the service and wrong orders. I decided to try out the order online option but wasted 30 minutes getting the right order. They gave me a small when I ordered a medium bowl. The gentlemen rectified the situation by just giving me more base in another bowl but that’s not what I wanted-- it should be all mixed together. Not only that but they gave me a wrong order. It was very frustrating. The worker was going through the trash to find my receipt… & I couldn't go back to the receipt online to show my order which is very odd. I do feel like their sales system is not sufficient and it led to frustration on both customer and worker’s side. Just dont order online!

Google
We ordered Bay Blend & Warrior Blend and both were very tasty, lots of toppings, a variety of different flavors. Not too sweet and on the cleaner side of açaí bowls.

Yelp
Love the acai bowls here! The portions are big and they have an amazing menu. I got the palm mix and it had everything I was looking for. The toppings were fresh and crunch. I also asked for honey as a topping. The staff was so sweet and they made everything so pretty and yummy.

Yelp
I hadn't checked them out since they moved around the corner, but yesterday a friend suggested it and I was impressed. There's a bigger selection to choose from (compared to what I remember) and you can also build your own bowl from scratch. The açaí bowl was delicious with numerous technicolor layers of things I couldn't identify: pitaya, coconut beach, blue chia pudding? But it was as colorful as it was tasty. It made me think of a delectable bowl of rainbow unicorn poop -- in the good sense. I am not a fan of kiosk ordering, (OK Boomer) but I can see how it keeps costs down. And - not fast food! I don't know all it takes to build a bowl but you have to wait. There's more orders in the queue than what you see represented by people in the place, they do a lot of online business as well. But overall, we need more açaí around, and Palmetto does a lovely job.

Yelp
Swung by at 11am on farmers markets Sunday! Surprisingly no line! A few small seating areas inside, or you can eat your sweet treat on the curb. Portions are large and recommend sharing the medium size for 2-3 people. My friend and I weren't able to finish surprisingly. Would come again! Love an açaí place.

Yelp
One of the best acai places in the city; however, it does take quite a bit of time to get your order, especially when it's busy (it took about 30min to get my bowl even on a non-busy day). Therefore, I recommend ordering beforehand. You can order via app or online to expedite the process, or order at the front at their kiosk. They don't take cash. I liked the Bay bowl the best. Smooth yet crunchy, cool and refreshing, it's the perfect mix of sweet and tangy. They also pile on the toppings and make it look quite appealing, so I appreciate the presentation. Prices are fair and personally, I think the medium size is more than enough for anyone, although the Large can be a full meal on its own. There's a small back area for sitting and eating indoors (and a bathroom), as well as a few entrance benches to sit and wait for your bowl. I just wish the bowls came out a bit quicker.
google avatar

Colby C.

Yelp
Seems like they are getting cheap with their portions these days. I got like 5 slices of almonds and a quarter of a banana. They used to fill the bowls to the brim.
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is very healthy lots of fruits. I do the Warriors blend which comes with mango granola, honey and other fruits. Service here is amazing. Staff here is very friendly feels like you're almost in the tropical islands very clean staff. Here is very nice.

Yelp
Yum! This is definitely the spot to come for açaí in SF! You can chose from quite a large selection of bases, açaí, pitaya, coconut, chia pudding, and mango just to name a few. And the from the bases I've tried, acai, pitaya, and mango the texture is creamy and smooth not an ice particle in sight. I always opt for building your own bowl, customizing which fruits and toppings I want. I especially love getting cacao nibs and the coconut condensed milk. These bowls are filling and not too steeply priced. Will be back for more refreshing bite!

Yelp
First time coming to this location as I've gone to the one in Burlingame few times. I tend to go to the Burlingame location since it's easier to find parking over there vs the city + meter is expensive lol. I was immediately greeted by the staffs and they were super sweet. You can order on the screen/front cashier and I always went with ordering a custom Açaí bowl. The nice thing about custom is you really can put unlimited toppings! How awesome is that seriously. I usually load it up with different seeds and fruits! Overall this place has one of the best acai bowls in the Bay Area and I'm glad they have multiple locations!

Yelp
I'm born and raised in Hawaii and never had an açaí bowl since I moved to SF . We just finished a short hike and decided to get something refreshing. My friend recommended ordering several bases . I was skeptical at first since the OG açaí bowl was only one base . Trusting my friend , I ordered five bases : palmetto açaí , pitaya dragon fruit , tropical spiralina , passionate mango, and matchacado 2.0 with most of the toppings . It was a beast to finish . From start to finish , it was super refreshing and sugary for sure. . As you dig through each layer , you can taste the uniqueness of each base. Tropical spiralina and palmetto açaí was my favorite . I would definitely order more than one base . Service was quick . They had little chairs for people to sit down to eat . Street parking was easy to find on a Sunday . This is a great place to stop by after a run or have a need for to recharge .

Yelp
Ya know it's not the BEST acai bowl I've had in my entire life. But there is a huge menu with lots of options! And $9 for a small with unlimited toppings is a good deal in the city! The acai base doesn't have a lot of flavor but I'm here for alllll the toppings hehe

Yelp
I have been a fan of Palmetto since I moved to San Francisco -- I come here very regularly and order acai bowls and smoothies very often. There have been times where the staff is very busy as there are many orders and it will take longer than usual, but the bowls are so good I've never had an issue. Until today. My friend and I went earlier today and ordered our bowls ahead of time, in case they were busy. We got there and our orders were ready. We spent an entirety of 45 minutes there are only a handful of people came in. It was not busy at all. There were no issues with my order, but my friend did not see almond butter in hers (which she double checked and did order). She politely went to a staff member and asked if there was almond butter in her bowl and assumed she maybe just missed it when she looked through her bowl -- which BTW, my friend is super sweet and was so nervous about even asking about her almond butter. The staff member was polite and said that it should be under the granola, but if my friend doesn't find it, she can add more. Well, my friend did not find it and again, politely, asked for more. When my friend asked for more, the same staff member grabbed her bowl and took it to the back and made a face at another staff member and made some comments. When she came back to my friend with the bowl there was a ridiculous amount of almond butter. My friend is super non-confrontational and felt bad about bothering the staff member and just removed more than half. Which BTW, there was never almond butter in her bowl in the beginning. This was such a passive and unnecessary thing to do and wasted a lot of almond butter. Very disappointed in this behavior, especially from a place we LOVE!! ):

Yelp
Eat a rainbow! The Palmetto acai bowl is it. Customized to my taste with an abundance of toppings. How yummy is that? And Palmetto has a soft spot for healthcare workers...that is something I believe in. Gotta get my fruit for the day at Palmetto!
google avatar

Lizzie S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places for acai bowls in SF--I love building my own, and they offer a wider-than-most array of bases (acai, pitaya, coconut, mango, chia pudding....) and toppings (like blueberries, strawberries, goji berries, etc.) I love the texture They also have smoothies. There's 2 benches outside but you can hopefully snag a seat inside amongst lots of plants. Bathroom is clean and service is good. Go on the weekend and walk around the Clement St Farmer's Market, too!
google avatar

Katja K.

Yelp
Every time I come here, I'm so happy with my decision. I always build my own bowl and just jam pack random stuff together to feel like a healthy Queen! The staff is so nice and very generous with the toppings. There is only a small amount of seating indoors but it's usually not very busy. This is the perfect spot to go with your friends or partner for something sweet but good for you. The small is only like $8 and they have seasonal fruits and adding new flavours all the time so each visit can be special.
google avatar

Sally Y.

Yelp
For açaí bowls and smoothies, the Richmond's Palmettos is slightly bigger than the one in the Marina, with a nice section that has benches for people to sit and eat indoors. Also has a clean bathroom facility. You get to pick your own ingredients and get a custom made delicious treat. Everything tastes fresh and refreshing. Service is efficient. The store's vibe is vibrant and clean. One in the Richmond'shas more families on weekends whereas the one in the Marina has more joggers - saw some good-looking police officers at this hip joint!
google avatar

Rynelle A C.

Yelp
If you want a cool meal or snack, this is the place to go. Line up outside and order. There are only two tables outside. It's a to-go place for sure. It's a small hole in the wall joint but excellent açaí bowls!
google avatar

PJ D.

Yelp
My go to spot for açaí bowls in the bay area! I also love their Castro + Santana Row + Palo Alto locations and they have consistent quality across different locations. I often get a build your own which is such a great deal because you can add as many fruits and toppings as you want all for one price. Super easy to order on the kiosk and they're really quick with the bowls. I usually get a small for myself or a medium if i'm sharing with one person. Unless it's super busy you should be able to get street parking nearby. Would not recommend getting for delivery as some of the fruit blends can be melted by the time it gets to you depending on where you live.
google avatar

Crystal L.

Yelp
While the açaí bowl itself was good, I wanted to leave some special details in the online order but this location noted they do not allow that. Also, I checked to see if my order was ready and was told it was finishing up, but then when i checked in 5 minutes later, they said they will make it now.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
Been a loyal customer at Palmetto since they opened their Clement location in 2019... Recently it's been really busy on hot days, which is totally understandable! I expect longer wait times. But today the staff completely forgot about my order for over THIRTY minutes. When I asked them about it, they didn't even apologize - they just said it was busy and it would be ready soon. In the time I was there I watched multiple people walk in, order, and get their bowl... people who ordered after me got their bowls and smoothies - it was extremely clear that my order was forgotten. I think it's ridiculous to not even apologize or offer a voucher or something if they forgot an order, it's the least they can do. I ended up wasting 40 minutes waiting for my bowl. It seems like they need to find a better way to organize orders, and perhaps disable Doordash and only allow in-store and in-app orders when it's really busy so they don't compromise on quality. Very disappointed in the quality recently
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
This smoothies here are worth the price tag all the ingredients that they add into the smoothie make the price of well worth them. The customer service was amazing as well as the sitting area. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a really good nutritious healthy smoothie.

Franciele G.

Yelp
Received a wrong item!! I thought maybe I could solve easy but nobody answers the phone. Very disappointed!!
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Out of the way "hippy joint". Could be cleaner. Lots of moms with kids there on a Tuesday. Food was garden fresh and delicious. I would go again!
google avatar

Avey S.

Yelp
Food: the mango didn't taste fresh, tasted a bit overripe or old ): the bases were really good tho and I love the assortment of toppings Service: I normally don't care too much for service quality but it was bad this time. The two workers were arguing with each other and it just felt awkward and tense inside. And I've never waited 30 minutes for acai I have no clue why it took so long Ambiance: it's nice inside but it was 90° so we ate outdoors I would go back because the prices were good and the topping selection is amazing! Maybe the heat was getting to folks lol
google avatar

Maddie X.

Yelp
Favorite place for açaí bowls in the bay! Bowls are completely customizable with multiple base options and unlimited toppings for such a good price! Staff is friendly and there's lots of seating indoors!
google avatar

Corina L.

Yelp
Love all the unique bowl combinations! The Warrior was tasty and reminded me of the UC colours. The ordering system is efficient with an in-store kiosk, and there was no one else there when I went mid-afternoon, so I could submit my order right away. This location has a cute, Instagrammable indoor seating area on the right side.
google avatar

Briana H.

Yelp
A bowl full of freshness and appetizing combined flavors will satisfy your health conscious lifestyle. Come here to treat yourself with a bowl. For me personally, this fills me up and serves as an entire meal. Great quality and fair price.

Ava L.

Yelp
Super delicious as always!!! The açaí base is always really fresh! I got the build your own bowl with açaí, mango and chia pudding.
google avatar

Juan V.

Yelp
Delicious avocado smoothie. So tasty and natural. Enjoyed every sip of it. Worth a try on a sunny day.
google avatar

Noel A.

Yelp
I have a problem. I love the Bay Blend so much that I have ordered it up to 3x a week. I've managed to control my addiction to 1x a week. It's that tasty and I crave it. I've had açaí bowls at other places and other cities and NOTHING compares to date. Not even Hawaii. It's just the absolutely perfect mix of flavors and textures. The coconut beach base is insanely good. They have lots of different bowls and smoothies. And you can create your own as well.
google avatar

t L.

Yelp
Delicious açaí bowls but they take awhile to prepare, order very ahead! Few tables inside
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
Service was not really there when I went in. The girl was busy arranging the jars instead of wanting to serve us. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there and when we asked her questions she couldn't be bothered to answer. For instance I wanted to know more about the cold brew shake and she said it's just cold brew blended. But, it's really not, it has other ingredients. Portions were small and for $17 for an acai bowl I expected a good portion and good service.
google avatar

Mel Q.

Yelp
I wish I could put into words how much I love this place. I've only ever gotten take out but every single time it's been nothing less than perfect. Absolutely delicious!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
I got the breakfast bowl and it was great, delicious açaí and blend! Takes bit of time to make so order ahead to avoid a line. Larger location than the one I visited in the Marina with some places to sit and enjoy your bowl.
google avatar

Daisy L.

Yelp
If you have nut allergies, please be careful when you visit this franchise. I came with my friend and he noted that he had a nut allergy, specifically to almonds. When they prepared his bowl, they included sliced almonds in his toppings. Luckily he noticed and made a comment. This would've been the opportunity for the worker to fix their mistake, but they simply scraped off the almonds. In terms of food safety and prioritizing customers' health and wellbeing, the person preparing the bowl should've completely remade it. Even after the employee's effort to scrape off the almonds, my friend still found some in his bowl. Do better and practice safe food practices.

Qurrath A.

Yelp
I love the acai bowls here and I feel its one of the best in the city. They have mostly organic ingredients and the quality of all the bowls is top notch. It's my go to breakfast on weekends .
google avatar

Sophie C.

Yelp
Best açaí in the bay! Such a variety for bases and toppings, it's overwhelming in the absolute best way possible. You order through an app and there's no indoor seating, although there is a bit of seating outside. Prices are pretty reasonable for açaí, we paid around $9-11 each. Everything is always super fresh and the portions are heaping. It's on Clement Street, which is an amazing place to just get açaí to go and walk around. Good to-go dim sum places and drink places! Definitely recommend Palmetto's to any açaí lover.
google avatar

Calvin T.

Yelp
The best açaí bowl in the area, they super pack the bowls with generous amounts of fruits, nuts, peanut/almond butter, honey, and multiple bases to choose from. Super reliable to be ordered on DoorDash and their own app. Service is somewhat quick and the inside is nothing to write home about, a couple of cute neon signs for those who want to take photos.

Thea M.

Yelp
this is my favorite açaí bowl place. it's absolutely delicious but if you are buying from here, expect a very, very long wait. they do not have nearly enough staff and it takes forever even just for one item. this is still the case even if you order ahead.
google avatar

Hoyan L.

Yelp
I LOVE their açai bowls! So delicious, healthy, refreshing. I love how there are so many options to choose from. My favorite is the Bay Blend, but also love the customizable one so I can add more fruits and toppings. Even the Mr who originally told me "I don't like acai bowls" turned into now a full pledge açai bowl addict (...!!!!). Service is a little slow, so either order ahead through their app or prepare to wait!
google avatar

Jackie O.

Yelp
I walked in I said "hello" one of the girls looked past me and none of the girls said hi. ok it's self serve but greeting customers brings people back. after I keyed in my order I sat down to view a dirty counter top and unswept floor. even my receipt was dirty when they gave me my drink. I hope the owner does a training and a deep clean until then my stomach is turnt and i wont be returning.
google avatar

Lina O.

Yelp
Expect a 30+ min wait, even if you order ahead. I don't think the Inner Richmond location has enough staff.
google avatar

Lauryn T.

Yelp
I was craving a smoothie and my friend recommended coming to Palmetto. This is my first time here. Since I've never been to this place before it was a little overwhelming for me choosing something on their menu. I decided to make my own bowl with a Pitaya base & chose a variety of my favorite fruits with many different toppings. The açaí bowl was refreshing and perfect for a hot day in the city. I would definitely come here again to try the other bowls or the smoothies.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
You can order online or in the cafe. There are so many choices it can be overwhelming. My husband and I opted for the FlexBowls and my daughter and her bf built their own custom bowls. All were spectacular in flavor, quality and value. I got the medium-sized bowl but probably should have gotten the small bowl. They were super fast in building the bowls. There appeared to be no inside seating, just limited benches outdoor.
google avatar

Reeva G.

Yelp
I am a sucker for a good açaí bowl. We've tried all the açaí places San Francisco has to offer, and Palmetto is our favorite. It hits every time, rain or shine. Literally. We've driven in the pouring rain to Palmetto when the cravings are too strong. Portion sizes are very generous, especially the medium. Unlimited toppings at no extra cost is a game changer. Ingredients are always fresh. Make sure to order ahead of time to avoid the wait! But if you don't want to make the trek, Palmetto is available on Uber Eats.
google avatar

Kayla P.

Yelp
I love coming here for a snack any chance I come. I love how many options there are but it can be overwhelming at the same time. Once I found my perfect order, I constantly crave palmettos! I tend to like the location in Palo Alto more because it seemed to have tasted better, but still great nonetheless
google avatar

A C.

Yelp
Items are made to order. Very aesthetically pleasing; very cute. Staff work diligently to fulfill orders.
google avatar

Cheri L.

Yelp
Beach in a bowl?! My fave place to get custom smoothie bowls with unlimited options (at no extra cost). This new custom (for me) is not only delish but also super pretty with the baby blue color. They just added a smoothie with the same bases to their menu too! Order: Coconut Beach, Tropical Spirulina, Mango, Blueberries, Cacao Nibs, Mulberries, Granola, Condensed Coconut Milk Their new location is a bit bigger and has a few indoor seating available now!
google avatar

Karn H.

Yelp
The best açaí place ever Like Açaí, Pitaya dragonfruit and Blue chia pudding base Love cacao nibs
google avatar

Kathy P.

Yelp
BEST AÇAÍ BOWLS EVER. HANDS DOWN, BEST AÇAÍ BOWLS I'VE EVER HAD. Let me just say, I had this place recently and it changed my life. Cute, tiny storefront with togo açaí & smoothies. I ordered a small build your own bowl with an açaí & matchacado base. It had strawberries, blueberries, bananas, honey almond granola, hemp hearts, shredded coconut, cacao nibs, chia seeds, hemp seeds, and honey. Service was quick, even though there was a disclaimer that custom bowls may take some time. The matchacado base was sooo unique and two things I love most -- matcha and avocado! Mostly a matcha tasting base, but with hints of the creamy buttery avo. But what's best about this place is that they give you unlimited toppings. I love it here and I'm soooo happy to have found a new place to be a regular at!
