Paloma Fondita Mexicana - Review - Gràcia - Barcelona - The Infatuation

"In Barcelona, Latin American joints are where you’ll mostly find spicier, funkier flavors than those offered at your local tapas bar. Does the food measure up to what you’d find in New York or L.A.? Mostly, no. But every now and then, we stumble upon a big, resounding yes, like Paloma. While the kitschy interior feels more like a Mexican-inspired theme park, the flavors and textures are right on the money. The immediate burn of the first slurp of the green seabass aguachile, served beneath an upside-down tostada, let us know these guys know their tortillas from their totopos. Oaxaca enthusiasts should spring for the gordita stuffed with juicy pulled beef and molten, Oaxacan-style stringy cheese produced right here in Catalonia and named Paloma after the eponymous chef. The location makes Paloma the perfect jumping-off point for exploring Gràcia’s buzzy late-night bar scene." - Isabelle Kliger

Where to start ? The service : Greeted by the boss himself, gave us advices and tips as to what to order, along with the staff. The food : Absolutely bussin, having travelled to Mexico myself (for love reasons) I travelled when eating the 3 dishes I ordered for myself. The cocktails : Authentic, fresh and affordable way to enjoy your evening. Bonus : we have the description of your dishes when they arrive (a sadly lost practice..) Beautiful evening.

This was absolutely delicious! We spent an amazing evening while Ricardo attended us exceptionally and so friendly. Luckily I also found out from Ricardo that I need to have my taco juicy and dripping through my fingers while eating as it is ‘tradition’ made my experience finger licking good! Great service and will definitely come back soon! Thanks a lot! Being there with a person in a wheelchair he also took care that our access was smooth! Thank you!

The menu is refreshingly simple yet thoughtfully curated, showcasing elevated Mexican cuisine that stays deeply connected to its roots. The food is full of character.

My favorite new Mexican place in Barcelona. The quality, the warmth, service and pride they put into the menu and food is top! Absolutely delicious - they really take their time to explain the concept, that Mexican food goes beyond just tacos (and they deliver on that!) and some of the stories behind the recipes. LOVED the whole fish, chicken, aguachile, tostadas, I can’t recall what else we ordered - we were a big group. Love that the space is spacious to host bigger groups but they book up fast so reservations are recommended.

Food was good but drinks were mediocre, i had better margaritas. The prawn tacos is top!

Unimpressed. The food was average at best and vert overpriced for the serving sizes. The lubina aguachile is cooked, the pork taco is all fat and the camaron taco literally has just one shrimp in it. The salsas were all excellent, which makes me think that the problem is with the approach, not the chefs skills. At the price point (€35-50), you can get much much better food in Barcelona.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Barcelona. Expect to spend a bit more to what you would usually spend in a Mexican restaurant, but this is justified by the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The aguachile was fantastic. The place is new and definitely needs to revise their dessert offerings. We tried the flan but had to give it back given the sour taste of the goat cheese used in the dulce de leche. With a “usual” dulce de leche it would have been fantastic.

I was excited to try this place but they charged 10.50 euros for a single fish taco that didn’t even have any actual “Mexican” flavor. It would be overpriced even if it was good but it’s robbery what they’re charging for the lack of taste and quantity. It was also so loud I got a headache instantly and service was slow.
