"If you want to eat a lot of inventive, delicious food while drinking good cocktails, gather your friends and head to Palpal. With its easygoing service and inoffensively industrial space, this Korean tapas spot in Nomad is the perfect blank canvas for your next night out. Almost everything at Palpal is prepared in a wok over live fire, and the open kitchen is the most eye-catching detail of the dining room. The drink menu has five different highball variations, three cocktails, a slew of canned and bottled beer, and a selection of sool. The vast majority of drinks are $14 or less. Combined with small plates that seem designed for soaking up alcohol, this is a natural choice for a dinner that’s also kind of a party. Ordering two to three small plates per person is not a new idea, but Palpal manages to make this tired concept feel fresh again. Start with an order or two of fresh cilantro kimchi from the street food section, which is where you’ll find other sharable nibbles like nurungji rice cakes and “ugly dumplings.” There are eight other menu sections, including seafood, meat, and noodles, and you should order something from each. The portions here are relatively small, encouraging you to try a lot of different things rather than simply tucking into a giant bowl of black bean noodles—though this particular dish is so good, we wish we could get an XL version. Any dish that highlights seafood is a solid bet, too. The menu is pretty big, and not everything hits. This is our primary complaint about Palpal. The highs are “can’t stop thinking about it” high, but the lows are dishes we didn’t want to finish. We don’t love the spicy 2x stir fried udon, which isn’t even 1x spicy. The lamb bulgogi doesn't capture either lamb or bulgogi, and exists instead in the realm of nondescript stir-fried meats. But as long as you go into your experience informed, you can still have a memorable meal here. This isn’t the kind of place you go because you want to take a thousand pictures of dishes that will make people jealous. It’s the kind of place you go when you want to eat great food with your friends. The food isn’t meant to take the focus away from the people you’re eating with; it's mean to serve as the backdrop to a great night out. Food Rundown Fresh Cilantro Kimchi The single best thing on the menu here, this is a crunchy, tangy take on kimchi that’s, well, fresh. You should get at least one order for the table, but we like to get two because it’s just that good. Nurungji Rice Cake If you like honey butter chips, this tastes a bit like that, but in rice cake form. It toes over the sweet side of the sweet-and-savory line, but it’s still a very good starter. Spicy Galbi Saucy, tender, and infused with a buzzy heat, this is the best meat dish on the menu. It comes with a lot of vegetables, which is refreshing. Black Bean Noodle The textural contrast of julienned cucumber and chewy noodles in this dish is one of our favorite things about it. It comes tossed in a savory, rich black bean sauce. You should share this, but you won’t want to. Soy Sauce Monkfish This dish manages to pack a ton of seafood flavor without tasting fishy in a bad way. The exterior of the fried monkfish is perfectly crisp, and the inclusion of crown daisy brightens things up. This one pairs very well with a cold beer. Perilla Oil Noodle Our ideal hot-weather dinner consists of these noodles and a side of fresh cilantro kimchi. The perilla flavor is strong but not overpowering, plus there’s a jammy egg and a pile of scallions involved. Cocoball Bingsu Both sophisticated and whimsical at the same time, the chocolate and coffee-flavored cereal offers bittersweet crunchy notes that contrast beautifully with the floral flavors of the earl gray shaved ice." - Carina Finn

It is a contemporary Korean tapas-style restaurant newly opened near by K-town. As a native Korean, I find these menus are somewhat familiar to me, but some twists in every dishes allow me experience new flavors. I love how they applied ingredients frequently used in other cuisines to Korean cuisine to create astonishing flavor. This place is a hidden gem. You should try it, and you will understand what I am saying.

I came here knowing that it's a sister restaurant of take31, which I genuinely love, so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, most of the flavor was pretty mediocre and I think it was too safe. The mentai noodle was too oily and a bit bland while the 88chicken is too sticky, which makes it hard to eat. I think the beef was pretty good but it lacked depth and pretty much tastes like what you would expect. The only thing I really liked from what I ordered was the shrimp - love that black pepper sauce and how it's fried to perfection. Overall, it was a bit underwhelming but I hope they rotate their menu so we can try other things!

This place is super sleek and modern. The food comes out as small plates so it’s great for sharing. The drinks are delicious and affordable too! The staff is really kind and attentive and also easy to look at 😏 There are lots of tables for large parties. Definitely a good place to bring people who may not want to endure the craziness of Ktown, entertain some casual coworker hangs, or share a snacky meal. And they take reservations! What we ordered: 88 chicken - good boneless fried chicken but not exactly what I’m looking for in Korean fried chicken. More sweet and tangy. Cilantro kimchi - a surprisingly highlight. Very refreshing and tart. Super delicious in contrast with the heavier dishes. Mentaiko Noodles - so much scallion. I wish it was more incorporated rather than sprinkled raw on top. I also expected this to be creamier and stronger in Mentaiko flavor. But it was neither. I wish it was spicy Mentaiko pasta 🥲 Black bean noodles - a welcome balance to the Mentaiko noodles which felt one note. Earthy and savory. Spicy squid - standard Korean spicy squid. Yummy!

Delivering Korean style street food fresh from hot Wok action in this industrial looking restaurant. Walking in, you can immediately smell the delicious aromas for the salty sweet dishes being prepared in thr middle kitchen area. The new Eel special is in point, tender inside and glazed outside. The pork belly dish seems a let down compared to all the others, simple steamed and muted flavors. The strawberry and chocolate bingsus finished the meal well. Service was a bit hectic with the packed tables, yet still flowed well in between courses. Need to come back and try other half of the menu.

This place is a new Korean street food restaurant, I came at lunch time it was empty I was the only one dining. The space is large and airy, very high ceiling and open kitchen. Service is great, my server kept coming to check on me. Occasionally there are take out orders but still I was the only one dine in. The lunch menu isn’t big, I ordered the seafood noodle soup, it’s not very spicy. But I love the charred pork belly on top giving you a great fragrance. It is a little bit pricier than the food court around the corner but you get to sit down to enjoy the food which is what you are paying for.

What an amazing Korean restaurant. From appetizers we ordered Broccolini and Leek and Crab Egg. Broccolini and leeks were very crispy with nice flavor of yuzu and a touch of wok hei. Crab egg was amazing, with a rolled and cut omelette with crabmeat, wasabi mayo dressing and crisps. Something very unique. For mains we ordered Spicy seafood hotpot and Seafood Ragu fried rice. The hot pot was tasty. Seafood Ragu fried rice was very moist and delicious. The menu is not very extensive but every item on the menu is well prepared. The prices are very reasonable. The ambience is nice. The glass covered kitchen is visible to all. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This is a gem. Would visit again soon.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night. The cream cheese makgoli was very interesting. Tasted like a milk/yogurt slush but very diluted barely any alcohol in there. Food was great! I really like the rice cake appetizer even though the portion was a bit small. Everything was well made and delicious. Would definitely recommend and come back again!

📍PALPAL @New York, NY 🖤好食 (quality):😋😋😋😋😋 🤍環境 (environment): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🤎服務 (service): 💗💗💗💗💗 Are you ready for some authentic Korean street food? It is perfect to enjoy them with some friends over some soju!! PALPAL is the Korean pronunciation for 88, meaning the state of being energetic! ✨They serve all types of different Korean street food, including galbi, bulgogi and spicy chicken. It was such a vibe to come visit and enjoy these food with some friends for dinner! This time, we tried…. 🥦Broccolini & Korean Leek 🥦($13 USD) This was unexpectedly refreshing! 😜It includes charred broccolini and Korean leek with yuzu vinaigrette! 😤The broccolini were perfectly seasoned and soft! It is a great appetizer to start off your meal before all the meaty dishes! There are other appetizers that looked great like the hamachi crudo, which is raw hamachi with perilla soy sauce! 😎 🐙Baby Octopus & Pork Belly 🐙($24 USD) To be seriously honest, I really loved how they seasoned the dish! 🤭Although the sauce was a bit on the savoury and spicy side, it was perfect along with the baby octopus and pork belly! The baby octopus was not very chewy so it was just right! Other than meat, there were scallion, mushrooms and onions to balance the oiliness from the meat. 😌 🍗Spicy Chicken 🍗($21 USD) This dish was really good too, the chicken was soft and went very well with the sauce! 🤪The perilla mayo sauce on top of the dish really added a spark to the dish, making the dish more creamy (?). In my opinion, I would prefer it less sauce, there was puddle of sauce after we finish the dish. 😳 The interior of the restaurant was great, the vibes were also great for friends to come enjoy dinner after a long day of work! 😎For a party of 3, we just shared two sharable items and an appetizer and we were full after that! 😚 Thank you for the great hospitality and the yummy food, I really enjoyed it all! 🤍✨
