Yelp
It's not easy to find good Filipino food on the Peninsula south of Daly City. Pamilya fills the void with its menu of Filipino eats prepared and ready to dish out from a steam table. The servers here were super friendly and showed us all the different items they offered. The ordering style is similar to Panda Express, where you pick a starchy base along with various entrees. The bases included Garlic Rice (a Filipino classic), Pancit Sotanghon (stir-fried rice noodles in a sweet and savory sauce), and Pancit Canton (stir-fried egg noodles with vegetables), and you could mix and match. The entrees I tried included Chicken Adobo (boneless chicken in a dark, vinegary, savory sauce), Beef Kaldereta (spicy tomato-based beef and vegetable stew), Bicol Express (a spicy pork stew with coconut milk and shrimp paste--one of their most popular dishes), and my personal favorite, Bangus Sisig (minced milkfish cooked with onions, citrus, and soy in a creamy mayo-based sauce). Each entree was tasty in its own way, and each combo came with cooked mixed vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, corn) and pickled toppings including cabbage, cucumbers, red onions, and jalapeños, which added a bright acidity and crunch to the rather heavy dishes. In addition, each combo also came with a side, and I had the Lumpia Shanghai, the famous fried Filipino spring roll filled with minced pork and shrimp, and served with a side of sweet chili sauce for dipping. As if that weren't enough, to cap off the meal, I also tried their Halo Halo, a multi-layered dessert with sweetened beans, flan, jellies, cornflakes, coconut milk, and more, all topped with a scoop of ube ice cream (my favorite part)! Overall, this was a fantastic place for a casual meal in a clean, modern setting with great service and fair prices!
