Stopped by Pan Roast, at the FLOCK, on a Saturday evening and left a bit disappointed. The FLOCK was advertised as the newest premier food hall and event space - -- saw vendors and a band set up so I know the nightlife was starting. We came to snag a front space.
Around 6PM, at Pan Roast, I ordered the clam chowder and was surprised by how much I didn't enjoy the soup -- mostly just think creamy broth with little clams. Flavor-wise, it was overwhelmingly salty, which made it hard to enjoy.
Wanted to get it in a bread bowl, but found out that would be an extra $6 -- a bit steep for what's already a fairly basic portion. I couldn't finish it. Bummer, and I hate food waste. My roommate helped by taking a couple spoonful and agreed the chowder was okay. Maybe it tastes better in the bread bowl. :(
Thank goodness we also ordered fish & chips -- very good and generous portions! I'll recommend this and the fried clams were very tasty (was ordered by our local Portlanders). I should had copied him! Next time for sure.
What stood out the most was that, during the entire time we were waiting and eating, barely anyone else was ordering food. Most of the crowd seemed to be there for drinks at the adjacent beer/wine stalls and snacking on small bites (tapas) like sliders and chicken wings.
Not the best experience, but I certainly expected more on a "premier" food-hall smack in the center of PDX downtown.
