How ChatGPT Recipes Compare to Chef Recipes | Eater

"Evaluated through its orange chicken, this chain offering was one of several fast-food dishes where AI often performed surprisingly well; the creator noted that AI recipes tend to add more complex ingredients and, when cooked carefully at home, can rival or sometimes beat the original chain preparations, though judging accounted for the difference between home cooking and quick restaurant assembly." - Megan Ulu-Lani Boyanton

Google
The broccoli beef had 9. pieces of stem so thick you couldn't bite through. No florets. Just stem. Beef was very good. I'll try a third visit to see if the broccoli is not just stem.

The food is usually good. I went last night and the chowmain was undercooked there were chunks of noodles that hadn't been cooked at all. The server had to remove a bunch of noodles and throw them right in the trash. That should have been a sign to leave and, maybe, go back another day. My friend got sick and threw up this morning. I guess it depends on who's cooking the food. It just wasn't right this time. I have left over food, but I think I better just throw it out. I spent $41.00. I believe that the new crew of workers are not as good as the crew that was there when they first opened. I'm referring to the Marconi and Eastern location. Very disappointing. I went there June 15th around 7pm.

Google
Sedi was so friendly and the food was fresh. Thank you.

I forgot why I haven't been to a panda express in a few years. Very small portions for "entrees" and a 1.50 upcharge for all shrimp or beef options. The workers must be taught to be as skimpy as possible during training bc all panda express are like this.

Google
Passed by here yesterday with My Father after doing laundry. This is My first time going to this Panda Express location in Sacramento. The service was good. I ordered a plate with fried rice, orange chicken, and beef broccoli. Unfortunately, this Panda Express location did not have Black Pepper Chicken.

Nina

Google
Panda has finally come through! They have more vegetarian options! The new beyond orange chicken is amazing. Eggplant tofu is delicious. I’m so happy they have more options for vegetarians now. THANK YOU !

Google
I usually get the family meal. Love this panda location management and staff are always friendly, food is always good, they really care about their customers!

Josh Sooter

Google
This place has gone down hill. I went there today, they didn't put the third entre in the bag and the rice was very dry. I don't think I'll be going back.

Yelp
Panda Express is a family favorite. My wife, son, and I always enjoy our meals here. The Orange Chicken is our go-to. It's crispy, flavorful, and the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. We also love the Chow Mein and Fried Rice as sides, and the veggies are always cooked to perfection. What really makes the experience even better is the friendly service. The staff is always welcoming, and the portions are generous. Whether we're grabbing a quick bite or dining in, Panda Express never lets us down. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tasty meal.

Yelp
Ordered for pick up black pepper steak with chow mein and a side of chicken potstickers. Was ready super quick, all packed up with utensils, napkins and fortune cookies. As always, restaurant is clean and quick friendly service.

Yelp
I'm giving this location 3 stars because of the people who work there. The food was as expected and I even found my new favorite meal to order - Black Pepper Angus Steak over Super Greens! There is usually a long line that is always slowed down by one or two people who come in ordering for an entire village. The girl that works the cash register though...I can't tell if she's just in bad mood and hates her job or it's just her all the time. She delegates well, but there's just a tone in her voice that rubs me the wrong way. She gave attitude to a customer when they said something about the soda machine being out of ice. They also seem to be all over the place with orders once it gets busy and they have to also deal with online orders. The inside was clean with lots of tables and there is usually parking available though. I need to come back to try their new SPICY Orange Chicken...I just don't love this location unfortunately.

Maddy K.

Yelp
Got Panda Express tonight. Food was 10/10. However I did not get a fortune cookie. Everyone knows that's the best part. Highly disappointed.

Arnel S.

Yelp
I happened to pass by this location one time at lunchtime. I like the place because it offers a variety of food to choose from...so you can come here for a week straight and not have to repeat the food you previously ordered. The service is great...the servers always asking if you wanted samples, or if there is anything else you wanted, and they are always smiling. The portions I get are always generous. And checkout always asks if you need condiments to go with your food. There are times when the fried rice is all dried up, especially when it's almost gone and they still serve it to you...so try to avoid this. I guess it would be the same with the chow mein, although I'm not much of a chow mein fan. I can have lunch here everyday and not get tired of the food served...

Yelp
Before I begin let me start off by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone, so with that being said let's go!. I have only been to Panda Express one time and believe me when I say this because I try not to give poor reviews. This is one franchise that I will never visit again because the food was horrible. The chicken taste like it was frozen and thawed out heated up and served to me. If I want the taste of frozen chicken then I could go to the grocery store and purchase my own. I would not recommend this establishment!.
google avatar

Raul F.

Yelp
I've been to this Panda Express in the past. The orange chicken was well made, crispy and just the right amount of tangyness. My rice was really bland. Almost as if it was boiled vs fried. Pretty bland. The service as efficient. I arrived at the lunch hour. I was impressed how quick I got in and out. It's a nice facility, very clean. If my rice was better, I'd say under $11 per meal isn't too bad.

Yelp
Visited today to redeem the Tmobile Tuesday $1 deal of orange chicken with rice bowl. I was disappointed that they gave old (not freshly cooked) chicken that it lacked flavor and seasoning and was not tender and cold. Even the rice was old. The food portion was smaller too since it was ordered via the app. I ended up ordering more in store because the bowl was not enough and the contrast of how fresh, good tasting and bigger portion my 2nd order was huge. I got more food, better quality of meat and more flavorful orange chicken. I'm not sure if they intentionally gave a bad batch for the $1 deal or not but it was disappointing. The service was good though and the place was clean.

Andrew W.

Yelp
Nice people. Terrible cold food. Won't go back was better years ago. Small portions. Instead of adding to the dishes they just scraped the bottom.

Cameron O.

Yelp
Portions were less than satisfactory service was very monotone and bland, but my concern is the portions because they were barely enough for a toddler

Yelp
Very disappointed. I placed an online order and ordered the beyond orange chicken because it came back to Panda. When I walked in the store to the order pick up counter there was a lady there but she was staring down at what looked to be a sticker and didn't acknowledge me. I waited to see if she would acknowledge me until I knew she wasn't going to and asked is this where we pick up online orders? She asked for my name and then walked away and didn't tell me anything. I decided to sit back down because it didn't seem like my order was ready. I ordered just a bowl btw, pick up time was 5:43 and I was there 5:45. They continued to help other people who were ordering there until about 10 mins later I asked if my online order was ready. They asked for me name AGAIN, I could tell at this point they didn't care. She finally made my order and it was about 5:55 by then, I might as well have gotten in line and ordered. When I got home I opened my meal only to see 8 pieces of the beyond orange chicken and a good chunk of them were burnt. When I bite into them sure enough they were super inedible. If you're vegetarian like me and were looking forward to the return of the beyond orange chicken, I suggest supporting another plant based friendly restaurant.

Yelp
What can I say, I'm their weird Chinese girl that actually likes Panda Express and think it's good. Maybe it grew on my when I use to go there for lunch when I worked at Macy's Arden Fair. My go to is always the Kung Pao chicken. I don't know what they put in there but I have not found any Chinese restaurants that has the same taste. And add a packet of their spicy chilli paste and you have the best of both worlds. I love the greens that I usually opt for instead of the friend rice. Something about their fried rice but it's not something I could choose. The chow mien is good and that's usually the other half I chose. The string bean chicken is a hit or miss bc sometimes the string beans are "old". My husband's go to is their orange chicken. You get a good portion when you order for a party. Get the Panda App to get some deal.

Janice B.

Yelp
Tired of online orders taking precedence over walk ins. Four people working online orders while we wait. So disappointed.

Jon H.

Yelp
The food is normally pretty decent here, But I was just there this past Wednesday night, and everything was drowned in oil. Steamed veggies were all I could eat. Pot stickers were chewy and way too oily. Chow mein had oil dripping off the fork! String bean chicken was cooked in an oil bath. The strings beans were so oil saturated they were mushy. Broccoli beef was super oily. The beef was mushy and soaked in oil. I threw it all away. The few bites I took made me feel nauseous. Dont know if it was an off night for the cook. But if this is going to be the norm, I wont be back
google avatar

Yelp
When I had mentioned my food was sitting as it was passed over for non mobile orders and I would love fresh chow mein, (they hadn't added the entree) the obliged and then poured my old chow mein back into the large wok of chow meian waiting to be served. Yuck.

Yelp
Shhhhhh! Don't judge, but Panda is my guilty pleasure. I mean, it's just so convenient and you always know what you're getting. It's the McDonald's of Chinese food. It drives my daughter crazy when I suggest we get Panda for dinner. It's like I asked her to wear a matching outfit to the mall or something. I use their handy dandy app and it is very easy to just order ahead and pick up. Instead of fried rice or chow mien as a side, I get the steamed veggies. I then cook up my OWN rice and voila, healthy meal. Some of my faves are: - Kung Pao Chicken - Eggplant and Tofu - (Begrudgingly) Orange Chicken -- dare I say this is what put them on the map??? This location is on the corner of Marconi and Eastern in the Rite Aid shopping center. You can even ask for whatever condiments you want when you use the app. I like their hot mustard. You can take their little customer satisfaction surveys to get a code for an extra entree. I have yet to figure out how to use that bonus on the app however because I don't have the patience to wait in line. I even like their fortune cookies! The fortunes aren't lame, you know the ones I'm talking about ("I see broccoli beef in your future"). I'm still waiting for one to come true: A wish will be granted after a long delay. But I'll let you know when it does LOL.

Amy G.

Yelp
This place is the worst. My mobile order was due 20 minutes ago and there are people here who have been waiting 30+ minutes to pick up their orders. WTF. What poor management. These workers are literally running around. The app ordering should be throttled if they don't have the staff to make the food.

Samantha J.

Yelp
Last night my friends and I went to this location to get some food. I wanted to see if I could get a side of chow mein and shrimp in the same cup. It's a simple question I asked her if it's possible. I asked multiple times and this Asian worker that wears glasses had the worst attitude and just told me to make up my mind while I repeated my question multiple times. And that's not even it. A couple after me tried to get their mobile order and they had the name for the order but this Asian worker once again thinking she runs the place started giving them attitude and not giving them their mobile order. She needs to get fired ASAP!! she doesn't deserve to work anywhere with that kind of attitude.

M D.

Yelp
I ordered veggies, wi the teriyaki chicken and egg rolls. I got sick and I deleted the app.

Colleen W.

Yelp
We went to this Panda Express on a Sunday night and there had to be 20 people in line and another 5-10 at any given time in the mobile line. Yet, the place was running very efficiently and the line moved quickly. Kat, the first to take your order was cheerful and smiling toward every customer, did her job flawlessly, and set the tone for the rest of the line. Staff could have been tripping over each other. (Hello management they need more space.) However they were pleasantly excusing themselves and working around one another. I had to have heard them say "please" or "thank you" to each other a dozen times while I was there. Kudos to leadership, who are modeling customer service and just plain efficiency and courtesy to the rest of the team. You all ROCK!

Yelp
Just got home from this Panda. Out of my area a bit, but near my daughter and also her mother, so we met here. Mistake. This review is strictly on the service level this restaurant has. Most Panda's serve the exact same thing and cooked the same way. So it is the same at all the Panda's I have been at. Walked in at just about six PM. Two came in at the same time as we did. One person at the cashiers. One pair at a table eating. That's it. A gentleman at the register took the two folks order in front, gave them noodles or whatever they ordered, and wrote the entries on the box. We were up next. Exactly the same process and done quickly and efficiently. Even added the entries to one box as they were right there. We go around the corner with no one there to complete our order. We waited. And waited. A waited. Unbelievable. I counted eight staff on duty. (The order taker, Casher, two people back in the little room north of the order taker in the north west corner of the establishment who were just talking. Two workers ordering and restocking the half empty serving dishes, one cook, and another guy walking around in and out of the cooking/service area. It was just mind-boggling how long we were just ignored. My guess is the owner of the establishment was not on the premises. Eventually the cashier came down and dished up the other two boxes. Recognize the cashier, intake person, and cook are critical to keeping the flow moving. But for not one of the other five people to even lift a finger to finish our order is just not the way it is suppose to work. Food was ok, but maybe a quarter of the tables needed to be wiped down. Not a chance would we ever return. Two thumbs down for this Panda Express (in looking at some of the most recent reviews -- they do not look good at all -- does not look like this is a well run operation at all !)
google avatar

Rc J.

Yelp
The service was ok but the cashier was rude and no information about where to find plastic ware, fortune cookies or soy sauce was offered. One of my bills had a slight tear and she rudely told me she couldn't accept r it, according to the federal reserve any us bills are good, fair and legal tender if better than half of the bill is present and the serial number is legible, Do not patronize this Panda Express they need to learn customer service is owed to their customers who choose to spend their money that keeps them in business
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
RIP OFF!! Not enough meat and no fortune cookies. Food was what you'd expect from Panda
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Very inconsistent as far as service goes - sometimes quick, other times glacial. Some of the staff are great, others are terse and unfriendly. They tend to prioritize catering and online orders, which can slow things to a crawl. Why they don't prioritize people actually in the restaurant is beyond me. For that matter, serving sizes are also very inconsistent, but tend towards the stingy. The food itself ... typical panda.
google avatar

Sam C.

Yelp
I walk here every Christmas Eve the past 3yrs for takeout, it's become a tradition of mine lol it's nice and the people there are just casual nice workers and yeah they sometimes gotta wait on certain items but that's not their fault! Regular tasty Panda Express thanks

Jaqueline R.

Yelp
If I could give a zero I would, I can't believe egg rolls from jack n the box are better than this place. ! So disappointed in the food . Nothing was fresh the wontons were burned and seemed to be cooked twice! Or been sitting there all day idk. It was so bad. My kids didn't eat there meals I've never been to a Panda Express where there was oil's residue under all the food.

Eli B.

Yelp
Terrible service! I am waiting for my food and see that no one is making it. After a few min, "maybe" some one is making it. It's very frustrating to watch and see the lack of respect for customers time. Even if policy is to make fresh food on the last hour of operation. I'm sad to say that I have come here several times and this is the crap service that is normal. The servers do not care and make jokes about it.
google avatar

Liliana C.

Yelp
We just moved to the neighborhood and we absolutely love Panda Express But this location was a such disappointment The people working there are the most miserable people I ever see in my life I had to ask the same question 3 times to get an answer The food was cold and not taste like other locations Beef and broccoli was gross.
google avatar

Jeffrey J.

Yelp
I haven't been to Panda Express in a long time but I wish I still have not. The rice tasted old and a little rotten. The orange chicken was not as good as it used to be. The broccoli beef tasted as if it was reheated. The egg rolls were cold and the chow mein had a funny taste to it. The best part of the meal was the ice water. I probably won't be coming back and I wish I wouldn't of came because my memory of Panda Express was how delicious they were. Not anymore.
google avatar

Chana F.

Yelp
I have given up for all Panda Express's in Sacramento. My husband and I decided to grab some food from this location. We get there, the lobby had trash on tables, packages in the lobby. We order, I got rice, wok-fried shrimp, and orange chicken. My husband got rice, honey walnut shrimp, and orange chicken. We get home and get ready to eat, open my plate, and theres no orange chicken. They didnt tell us to wait, didnt ask if we wanted anything else. My husband got his orange chicken... highly upset that I feel the need to have to watch them 100% just to get the food I paid for.

Freddy S.

Yelp
I would give this location 0 stars if I could. Every time I come to get food every employee always has the worst attitude no matter how nice you are to them. They take your order as if you're sitting at the ebt office for the third week in a row. They never get the orders right I constantly have to come back even after waiting ten minutes for my food. Because as soon as 7 sits they don't make any food so it's easier to close as there a busy location that constantly gets the only DoorDash order in the area. They are all under tired in customer service and really need to have a corporate visit.
google avatar

Martin N.

Yelp
I'm coming all the times, is very close to mi house always is bery good just when the girl name faiza is serving, is nothing on the plate
google avatar

Grace B.

Yelp
What's the point if you order online and when you get there, your food is not ready. I ordered online to help myself from being late from taking my lunch break. I waited an additional 10 mins once I got there. It already took me 15 minutes to get there. My lunch break is only 30 minutes. I called them right before I even pulled out of the parking lot from work. The food is the typical food that Panda Express usually makes. I ordered simple beef broccoli with chow mein. Oh well. Learned not to do the take out with them anymore. Its not worth it. The food tasted as usual.
google avatar

Tony S.

Yelp
They commingle money handling and serving food which is unsanitary. Also, the people running it are without supervision in a very chaotic and unprofessional environment. People are going to get sick.
google avatar

Len E.

Yelp
Has become the worst Panda Express I've been to. It used to be fast fresh and friendly now it's chaos, they keep running out of food and can't keep orders organized. They don't deserve the business they get.
google avatar

Beth F.

Yelp
If I could give ZERO stars i would! This location is horrible!! They overcharged us and we got a partially wrong order!. Not only did we get the wrong food, but the service was so bad!! I live right down the street, but I will go out of my way to go to a different location.

Bella S.

Yelp
Went in at 3 pm on a Wednesday when there was no line. I got 2 bowls and they were both half full, the chow mein was barely covering the bottom of the bowl and even after he added the shrimp it didn't even touch the lid when he put it on. It doesn't make a difference in their paychecks to give people an adequate amount of food. I go there purely for convenience but this seems to be a regular occurrence here and I rather go the extra couple miles to get a full bowl.
google avatar

Gretchen D.

Yelp
Great service, fast packaging. I want to give a shout out to Christian. He's always very friendly and courteous; tonight he had my order ready to go when I walked in, AND threw in the box of cookies and bottle of Coke for free! OK, so we're creatures of habit and get the same order every time.
google avatar

Jasen O.

Yelp
We all know what Panda Express brings to the table. I just wanted to note that this location in particular cooked their food particularly well. The meats were tender and fresh feeling. Their proportion was the most I seen since Baton Rouge, overall this was a good experience. The rating reflects my rating in comparison to other Pandas.
google avatar

Yelp
COVID has only magnified what terrible work flow this place has. There are always 2-3 people on the food line bottlenecking one another, one staff on the register doing nothing but waiting and one person on break. I went there last month because there was a fundraiser for my kid's school- but I will not return again. I placed an order online because I know what a hot mess this place is- I hoped that placing the order online would mean I could just sweep through and pick up. No. I ordered an hour before I picked up. I showed up at my pick up time and waited an additional 25 minutes during which time the person "in charge" told everyone who ordered to wait outside. In 100° weather and terrible AQI. I watched my order sit on the line partially completed and after 25 minutes, I went to the register and asked that they finish my order so I could go. They still took another 10 minutes. Had a fundraiser not been a factor- I wouldn't have gone back after the last time I ordered online and received crusty cold fried rice and old chow mein. This place is not worth your money. They are awful and have no managers on staff who can do refunds or train employees to be efficient and thorough.

Fwz- S.

Yelp
if I could give negative starts I would ordered from the app never got a email so as anyone would I called super nice and kind just asking where my food is when it will be here worker had the worst attitude and the manager screamed at me and hung up on me my son stood outside waiting for his food to come for 25 minutes and never got it if you have a problem I suggest calling corporate really cool and super helpful
google avatar

Aj N.

Yelp
I DoorDash food, usually for pick up and the last 3 times I have ordered from here it says 6 mins for pick up and the last 3 times it had taken literally 15 minutes and one of the times (20) full minutes - Meat portions are small on the bowl option.

Yelp
We went to have a lunch at this location on 5/12/2018, and I bought a juice for my 2 and half year son, he drink half of it and then the bottle was on the table and i've noiced that it was expired on april, 9th... a month ago!!! I talked to the cashier and to the manager and the asked for my information and said that they'll talk to pepsi, because all the juices were expired!!! And then asked me if i want something else for my son, and i asked her for water, and then i saw the water was expired too as well... that's garbage!! What if something happened to my son!!! I still have the juice and the water bottles. My fiancé is so upset and he's saying that might even the food is expired and we're worried about our health.
google avatar

Yelp
Too bad I cannot five a zero or minus rating. Today marked my "all done with it" point for COVID take out that I cannot see the food prep. Received half my order only (other half wasn't even in a plate which should have been obvious) and all orders were done wrong. Upon returning to the store I told the manager what had happened and after that asked for a refund it credit. She offered additional food but refused to give any sort of refund or credit - even while admitting to doing it wrong. I'd love to say also in the dozens of times I have ordered food here that nothing has been screwed up. But I'd be lying not had happened numerous times. But the difference this time is that because of COVID I cannot watch the preparation and make sure it's right. I have to order at the door and hope for the best. And waste a half hour of my life getting my order fixed. Just piss poor customer service.

Sonya K.

Yelp
There food is good, but so greasy. If they would learn to use a lot less oil I truly think it would make a huge difference. I eat the food and have shiny lips. Not good

Sergey D.

Yelp
I came to get my food they said they don't have meat I wanted I would need to wait I said ok they said 7 mins waited for 25 mins I seen them bringing the meat I wanted but they just didn't see it

Kathy H.

Yelp
Is it standing around looking at us when we're waiting to order food . I wouldn't recommend and got to the cash register and still waited people are just standing around
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
We eat here twice a month or so and it's typically pretty good, but not today. Our chow mein was just a ton of cabbage and very little noodles. Our black pepper steak had no steak in it. WTF? Today not worth it. We were really dissatisfied with our food. I asked for four fortune cookies in my note. They never give me the correct amount. When I opened the bag and saw 3 fortune cookies, it just irritated me more.
google avatar

Tina L.

Yelp
On more than one occasion this location has been out of chicken prior to the dinner rush. The lines have gotten much longer due to a lackadaisical staff. 3 years ago this was not the case. Expect long lines and too wait for teriyaki chicken.
