Lazy Susan Wants to Serve San Francisco a Better General Tso’s Chicken | Eater SF

"I note that Panda Express, with more than 2,200 locations out of the country’s roughly 50,000 Chinese restaurants, is probably the closest existing analogue to a Domino’s for Chinese‑American takeout, serving as an example of a mainstream chain focused on reliable delivery and convenience." - Luke Tsai

I ordered chow mein and double orange chicken and they gave me no orange chicken. Didn’t offer a refund either. Can’t believe I wasted 30 minutes driving for this

Google
Tell me why my order of chow mein was actually just veggies, I ordered a plate so why does it seem like the portion of orange chicken is small, while the “chow mein” is exta (veggies) I need a serious refund or replacement

Google
Ordered a large order online, it said it would be ready in 30 minutes and 10 minutes later i was notified it was complete! The employees were very nice, they did forget my crab rangoons but remedied that mistake with fresh ones! Delicious food, will definitely be back!

Google
The service was great but WOW the food was just awful, the worst Panda Express food I've ever had. I have to remember never to order after 12 noon. Those nasty dried up old noodles definitely had been hanging out under the heat lamps since before then. Do better.

Not sure what happened to this place. I was excited as I went to Panda Express in Ohio. When the one on SR70 first opened, it was clean, the food was good, and the manager or maybe owner was present and greeted you when you walked in. It’s a very different experience now and we did not even finish our meal. The lack of care and attention in the cleanliness, service, and quality of food will keep me from going back for a long time. Hoping the owner is seeing the reviews and will get this place back to what it was when it opened.

Google
Always like this place. However, this was the second time we are having a terrible experience with the server Deniale. Last time I wanted no ice in my drinks and she said that's not allowed. I've never heard such thing. She literally gave us a drink with ice despite we insist no ice!!!! Then today, she gave us significantly less amount of food, not just us. She gives significantly less amount of food to everyone and with an awful attitude. The manager please talk to her!!! Thank you!!!!

The service tonight was excellent. Saturday night, they forgot our small entre for our bigger plate and I called yesterday, they said just come in and they will take care of it. The slim girl who wears glasses and speaks both English and Spanish, not only took care of one plate for us, she was also super nice and gave us two free drinks. We were very pleasantly surprised. 👍👍👍👍 She deserves a 5 star review.

Update: Well… you respond and I respond. The new Hot Orange Chicken is REMARKABLE. I purchase the large entree and it’s more than enough and just go without rice (so I can’t comment on sizes of regular portions). Great adjustments!! I’ll be coming back as long as hot orange chicken is an option. Adding a pic but leaving the originals up. Moving from 2 stars to 5. Doubt sound dampening or sweet n sour sauce has been adjusted but I’m feeling happy after that chicken so… Original: Not enough chicken to even touch the top of the tiny to go container. Very chewy batter on the orange chicken, hardly any spice, Panda now serves the sweet and sour sauce cold from squeeze packet so 86 the spring rolls, oh and the water cup is like 8oz or something ridiculous. Zero sound dampening or soft surfaces in the restaurant and all tile so it's extremely loud. Dear Panda: Pile the chicken on, make it in small batches so it's always hot, turn up the heat so batter has crunch, the smell from the spice should burn your nose from Orange Chicken when it's fresh, serve piping hot sweet and sour sauce like you once did(this rescues the often cold spring rolls) and use thick rubber matts to limit room noise.

Yelp
Ok, I looked at some of the reviews, wow. I can admit that I am not an expert on Chinese food. That being said this is a fast food chain restaurant, I mean it's not a family owned restaurant that makes the most authentic Chinese food around, but if you're not in the mood for a burger, chicken sandwich, or pizza you have this alternative. I had pepper steak, orange chicken, spring rolls, and 2 different kinds of rice and I thought it was fine tasting for some fast food. The service was quick. The ambiance was ok, but I wouldn't rave about it. I will return in the future when I'm not in the mood for a burger joint. Fast food 7.0 Service 8.0 Ambiance 6.5

Yelp
We have been twice in a month or so. Love the food and most of the options. Out biggest "don't go here" is there are no meat options for my child who hates sauce. He will eat rice all day long, but that isn't enough to keep him going or to qualify as a real meal. The employees were quick and efficient. Even with it being dinner rush both times we visited, things went smoothly for the most part. Being dinner rush involves a lot of order pick ups. One visit they were backed up in that department causing a crowd of waiting guests wanting their meals. With maybe 6-8 people in the small space near pick up and the drink station, that area was hectic.

Yelp
Went into the restaurant this evening to get a family meal. Came home and as I was taking out the individual boxes from the big box, a small used bandaid was stuck on the outside side of one small box. When I called the restaurant, they apologized & offered to remake that one small box next visit. One free small rice is all that I was offered. I'm extremely grossed out about finding the bandaid that I've lost interest in eating any of the food & ever going back to Panda Express.

Yelp
Panda Express is what it is. Their food isn't the greatest but pretends to satisfy a Chinese food craving when you want something fast. This location is very busy, but I think that after the novelty of the new fast good in town, will quickly wear off. The food is a step above by frozen Chinese food from the grocery store, but is nowhere near the quality as some of the nearby Chinese restaurants. Decided to try it today soon after they opened and it's exactly as I remembered, except their portions are significantly smaller since I remembered. I also noticed that ordering "to go", the portions of rice or chow mein appear larger than if you eat there. It looks like you get a spoonful if you eat there and one and a half spoonfuls when getting to go. It's below average food and why they get a below average rating.

Yelp
Your standard fast food place/- decent food quality, quick service, and staff are super friendly.

Yelp
I haven't had Panda for over 10 yrs. It tasted bad. All the dishes had a weird preservative taste that was unpleasant. I won't ever be back.

Logan E.

Yelp
I don't make many reviews. However I think this time it's necessary. Multiple times now I've ordered through the app and it tells me a pick up time and I arrive on time. But end up waiting 20+ minutes more for my food to actually be ready. I'm not one to complain, and I don't care to wait 40 minutes for my food. Just don't tell me to be there at a certain time and it not be ready. The whole point of online ordering is the convenience of skipping the wait. Please fix this. Thanks. Food is still good and people are nice, so I go back.

Yelp
Well, bummer. Bummer in the summer. It's summer. Went in June and it was great really great. Went a few days ago and gosh was it bad, I mean really really bad .Coming from California. This used to be a go to when you wanted to be sickened by some cheap Chinese food. But by golly was it good. I don't know what this location's problem is or who the manager is or what's going on and why they don't seem to care, but that is the case. We are in the lake club so driving there is about 15 minutes and then 15 back. Not worth the gamble as our compadres here in the neighborhood would agree to. Well, to be clear a lot of the people I have talked to since then had yet to have visited, though there was an interest. But guess what? They're likely never to go. And that's the problem when you really mess up and don't care. I got home and I tried several times to call the phone number that is listed to the business. Couldn't get anyone to pick up. That's never a good sign for a restaurant. I mean that's a really bad sign. At least five probably six employees but no one's able to pick up the phone. And it was empty because they were accepting cash only. So unless you feel like bringing cash or going and buying something at the grocery store just to buy this stuff, you can skip it. Not picking up a phone is a big red flag for a place like this as it shows that they don't care about taking any input or dealing with any customers who may have an issue since usually people don't call for good things. ' You know? That was great. That frozen to wok orange chicken was just so great. OK keep up the good work.' It would be nice if we did that. In any case I digress, I tried to contact the store to no avail and contacted customer service and they seem to not care whatsoever as well. You have one job, comes to mind. Serve your tried and true offerings and fix it if you make a mistake. That's it basically. Then I read on here that the store left a used Band-Aid on a box of food, yummy. and the store didn't do anything more than offer to replace their rice the following time they went in. Great. $.25 of a box of rice is def. going to fix the life long trauma:), ok maybe not that bad, I have from eating at a place that left a Band-Aid on my food box. To be honest just reading that person's review makes me never want to eat at another panda express again. It's too bad. Even the worst panda express in California is pretty decent. It is really easy to alienate an entire area and dissuade them from coming to your restaurant by doing stuff like this. I'm just not going and I'm also telling people I know around here about my experience and... about the Band-Aid experience. They were lucky that someone cared enough to contact them and let them know of a problem. Having been in the executive level of this type of company I can tell you that we generally feel very happy if someone alerts us to an issue so that we can fix it. Not so much with Panda Express and definitely not with this location. In fact, no action and no return communication demonstrates that not only are they not going to care about their mistakes, quality and consistency of their product and service, they are not going to care about trying to fix them and remaining open in a competitive and dire market given, the current circumstances. I give this place maybe one year before they are gone. Either that or I give this manager maybe six months before they are gone. Panda, you know who I am, don't bother calling me what is done is done.

Yelp
Sure missed this place from my days in California...there was never one close here in FL. until now. SO, off to bring back some great old memories...and great eats. It was busy...so like the ones in Cali...( their Corp offices started there ) This place appears to have a more condensed entre selection...Most likely due to the covid aftermath and economics....Their servers appeared engaged and pleasant. The containers are different, and serving sizes seemed smaller...(I can say that as i was an extremely regular customer). I didnt like that "after" you pay, you have to remember to ask for all your condiments such as... the terriyaki sauce, soy, chopsticks, mustard, sweet and sour....so "double check" before you walk out. There is nothing left out for you to self-serve... A bummer if you leave without it! ( I ate in ). Cleaning the tables got behind, THIS is an issue as inside eating is limited for the traffic it generates...and not to mention it was too hot to eat at the 3-4 outside tables. There is little to nothing as it relates to seating for a solo or party of two dine in customer. The communal tables needed regular cleaning, but I had to ask so i could sit down. It was kind of stressful. This place is usually not a high traffic grab and go kind of place. (There IS a drive thru for that)... So all in all, a 7 out of 10...when I remember them as an 11... So will try again on a different day....and let you know I what I think...Ciao for now!

Yelp
Dont order online to pick up. If you do, you will get a lot of rice, and maybe a half a spoon of chicken/meat. My bowl was full of rice, and the chicken barely covered the rice. Go inside to order, perhaps they will give you a full order.

Yelp
Like others have said the price is higher and the portion size is smaller than I remember from going to the mall version of the chain. Our order was incorrect. I didn't get the Beijing beef. They gave us a second beef and broccoli which waste tasteless and chewy. The chicken dishes were decent. The Kung pao was flavorful but not enough chicken mostly vegetables. The honey sesame chicken was the best out of the entrees my husband and I had. Cream cheese wontons were good. No condiments out where you can get them. Doubtful we will back.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place it's so close and some of my favorite kind of food. The honey almond shrimp is very good. The up charge is worth it. No issues with the service I ordered on the app and it was ready quickly. I did add salt to the fried rice and that helped the flavor. We had multiple other dishes they were mediocre at best. Update: I just heated up the rice and mushroom chicken it tasted a lot better.

GoodDay S.

Yelp
Just popped in for my first time at lunch today and they were very nice, and accommodating, and pleasant about it. I'll be back for that reason alone, thank you! Bonus is that the food is good too, especially the spicy dishes and the broccoli. The cream cheese wontons are yummy and the vegetable spring roll taste good too but it is a little mushy on the inside. No worries though, it's good fast food so they're not held to the same standards as a five-star restaurant. And I definitely would come, back thank you for the good service today and tasty lunch!

Yelp
We all were exited for the opening of a Panda Express here. Food is exactly what you want and expect. Staff is so friendly fun and caring. Thank you!

Yelp
Why? This what I kept thinking as I ate and again as I left. Walked in. No wait. Sign said everything is made fresh. Saw one of the cooks open bag after bag of frozen breaded foods. Ordered. Why again. Everything looked old but a few things were coming out "fresh". Sat down and realized I messed up coming here. Chow mein was like eating cardboard noodles with no flavor. Had shrimp, orange chicken and teriyaki chicken. Teriyaki chicken was the worst thigh meat I've ever had. Looked over at tv as a juicy chicken breast popped on there noting teriyaki chicken. Sure. It was clearly dark meat. Just overly processed garbage food. They clearly lie about their food quality in their advertising. I'm ending this and again thinking why but realize that everyone makes mistakes in life. This was one of mine.

Rachel R.

Yelp
3rd time I've been here and placed an online order and it has been over 20 minutes late each time. Overall not a good experience each time I've been and will not be returning.

Yelp
We went through the drive thru at dinner time on a Friday night. We ordered and paid and had to wait over 20 minutes for our food!!!!! We could have gone to a sit down restaurant at this point! Not fast food. Not apologetic or willing to give any refund for the wait

Yelp
Try the sizzling shrimp! So good!Everything is good but I believe the shrimp is the best!

Yelp
One of the better Chinese places, hands down better than china one, good prices and outside or inside eating, don't always have to go order ready when promised during the rush 5-7

Yelp
Food is blenders are always. But the service was ferociously bad I had to pull around through the drive-through twice

Jejjj V.

Yelp
want to give it a one star but the speed the food comes out helps. ordered orange chicken w rice and broc and then ended up getting white rice and orange chicken. so, like anyone would. i go inside to see where my brocs at?!?! no Broc. you kidding me? who doesn't have broc... anyways, white rice is meh, very dry and stiff, orange chicken is decent but without broc or soy sauce I'm just eating sticks and GMO. 2 star long time China thumb down. no come back long time.

Fran H.

Yelp
Food was not good! I ordered a sizzling shrimp and it had all kinds of old veggies in it. My son picked it up and brought it home ( I'm on vaca) it was the worst. I would not recommend this location. Wish I had taken a pic of all the junk in it. Everyone else liked theirs.

Alfonso E.

Yelp
It's Panda Express. My favorite fast food when in college. Always know to expect. The employees are rushing around and have been helpful and respectful with their service. The place has been busy since it opened and it was nice seeing young people roll up their sleeves and get to work on their first jobs. It's a brand new Panda Express not much else to say. I like it

Michael K.

Yelp
Frantic atmosphere, loud shouting on the food line, food was not great. Indifference was the vibe. Once was enough.

Robert S.

Yelp
Sloppy, gross food. I got the wrong order. Difficult process to get it changed. How do you go from a line wrapped around the building to no wait in line in a week? I think I found it. Yuck.

Jeffrey O.

Yelp
Horrible! Do not waste your time or money here at this establishment. Drive thru staff was very rude and food portions are sub par. Ordered beef and brocolli bowl. stuffed with fried rice and 3 pieces of beef. Also crab rangoons are terrible, did not give me any sauce that I asked for. Just horrible, if you'd like better quality food then I'd go to pei wei or taste of China for better Chinese food. Will never spend my money here ever again. Horrible customer service.
