Sichuan Hot Chicken Strips Land on Panda Express Menu for a Limited Time | Eater

"A nationwide mall-focused Chinese-American chain has rolled out a limited-time Sichuan hot chicken strip: crispy chicken breast strips (three per order) doused in a Sichuan-laced oil and dusted with a proprietary spice blend after frying, with extra heat available on request. The launch was promoted with a colorful video of customers eating to a Mandarin cover of Billy Ray Cyrus’s “Achy Breaky Heart” and a playful mobile game that sends an anthropomorphized pepper from Sichuan to America. Early tasting notes from Eater LA called the strips “very good.” With more than 2,000 locations, the chain frames the dish as accessible Chinese-American fusion that taps into the recent popularity of Sichuan spice and Nashville-style hot chicken; the item is available nationwide through the end of summer and could become a permanent menu offering if it proves popular." - Greg Morabito

Google
It's fine. Tastes pretty good! Felt a bit rushed though. I got the chow mein with some of the greens in a bowl and I'm not sure anyone asks for no meat here often because that seemed like a confusing thing for some reason.

Google
This place served great food and friendly staff makes this the best place to eat lunch. The potions were great .

Google
I came in during lunch rush, and the employees got people through quick and with little friction. I want to shout out Elizabeth for greeting everyone at the line with a smile and being very kind! For a fast food place, it’s never a problem going to this location.

Ashley Brown

Google
I've come here several times and I always see flies, I get they come in when customers open the doors but this is the second time I've found a fly IN my half eaten meal and felt disgusted throwing away my food, wasted money. They really need to have covers over the food to avoid flies. I called but got no answer and im not going to try again because im not going back for a refund im on my lunch break and what can you do you know. But they really need to invest in covers for the trays even subway has clear tray covers!! Employees are always professional and nice though.

Google
I have been in this store many times . They have on their menue, fountain drinks $2.10. Every time I ask for the $2.10 drink, they never have it!!!! If you're not going to sell the $2.10 fountain drink size, take it off the menu!!!!!!! Don't put stuff on the menu if you never have it. The lady was not very nice and I skipped the drink all together . I wanted a small, which was advertised but could never get it!!

Google
Came in for the first time in a few years. Gracie was at the counter and super helpful! She gave me a run down of the menu and even suggested a few entree choices. Ended up finding my new go to here! When I went to check out she let me sample the new “panda crafted” drinks. 10/10 experience thanks to Gracie.

Google
Food was very bad. I’ve worked fast food and can quickly tell when Fryer oil is burnt to the point the fryer needs to be cleaned and new oil added. The oil was clearly burnt. Food left a horrible burned aftertaste. Clean your fryers and change the oil more frequently.

Google
i’m in the hospital with my son and all i wanted was some panda express. i never got it because this restaurant let someone steal my food and then refused to answer the phones after me called 12 times.

Yelp
Amazing food great service and very clean and nice and smelled amazing. Going to come back

Yelp
Ordered through app and after arriving was told to wait 30 minutes before I could get my food. This is the last time I order through their app.I could gotten my food faster if I just drive here and went in to order. Elm Hill Pike restaurant in Nashville TN. Order number 36855978033070081 This is the worst experience I have had in using an app from a restaurant.

Yelp
Most chaotic Panda Express experience ever... This Panda is located in Berry Hill on Powell Avenue across from the large Staples/Home Depot and for the most part is your standard Panda Express, with the exception of service, organization and overall flow. The process from entry to cashing out was absolutely chaotic. First the young lady taking initial orders was less than friendly, very low-speaking and was not moving very quickly. This followed by 6 other people on the line doing 15 different things, which created absolute confusion amongst the staff and customers was exhausting to watch. The kitchen and line was disorganized and I felt bad for the Team Members as you can tell several of them were trying to be helpful, but just did not know how. The food was as expected and wanted, no issues there. Packing of the bag was a bit haphazardly as the lid of one of our bowls was not sealed and the sauce leaked all over the napkins and other bowl. Overall, not a fan of this location. The store was in good condition and clean, but the process was just a bit messy.

Yelp
Stopped by one evening after the movies for a late night bite as there weren't many options in the area. When I checked online it said that the business was closed around 10 so I got there in the nick of time. I ordered the plate with sesame chicken, Beijing beef and Chow Mein. The Beijing beef wasn't my favorite but the sesame chicken was good. It was delicious and well seasoned. The chow mein was filling. If I'm ever at the Regal and it's late, I'll probably prioritize eating here vs other spots.

Yelp
#1 The food is very well prepared with wild verity protein and side dishes at a reasonable price #2 The serving staff is very fast and friendly #3 Ambiance Relaxed environment set back take your time and enjoy your meal

J C.

Yelp
Really satisfied with my visit. The staff was friendly, the place was clean, but most importantly, the orange chicken was crisp and sweet. Exquisite chefs and careful employees make this place the Panda Express that it is. If I lived here, you could find me here for every meal. No affiliate benefits came with this review.

Drew P.

Yelp
I got a 2 entre plate that had 4 pieces of sweet fire and a half assed scoop of orange chicken. When I asked if I could get a real scoop of sweet fire he looked at me like I had 2 heads, so I changed to a large plate to get a meals worth of food. must be trained to upsell now. I absolutely love panda, just not this one.

Yelp
Zero stars terrible food service horrendous customer service no customer care nothing good about this company

Taylor T.

Yelp
Rude customer service and the food was hard and stale. Employees kept telling me the beyond chicken I ordered wasn't real multiple times even after I said that I knew.
google avatar

Mariah R.

Yelp
Small amount of food and the vegan option isn't here anymore. They could add a marinated mushroom option and I'd be satisfied but for just chow mein noodles as the vegan option is crazy.
google avatar

Dee Y.

Yelp
We stop here when visiting Vanderbilt at 100 Oaks. Food is consistent to the Panda Express brand. Quick service even if it is not really friendly service. But what do you expect??
google avatar

Kari V.

Yelp
Fast and tasty Asian cuisine without the waits that can leave you or your person hungry. Nobody needs a hangry relationship fight club division so it's a fast fix to curb appetites, raucous hangry ness and quite satisfying - food stoke all encompassing.

James L.

Yelp
Good value, friendly helpful staff, great leftovers. The beef is wonderfully hot! Chow mein noodles are better than the rice
google avatar

Yelp
Meriam M. sucks. New to this panda express in Tennessee & i was treated very poorly. Food saved this review from being one star. Nothing more to say. Meriam. Do Better.
google avatar

Makenzie F.

Yelp
The line was quite long, although it was well worth it! The food was very fresh and freshly cooked! The parking is a bit of an annoyance because it's limited. However they do have extra parking to the side by the movies. I get the noodles & sweetfire (little bit of a kick but not bad at all!!). I love the pineapple and bell peppers with the friend chicken! They had a pretty decent outdoor seating with umbrellas to enjoy it outside if you wish

Andrew B.

Yelp
Slow kitchen. Mass confusion at the line The girl at the front of the line just kept shoveling people along, that guy next to her kept getting orders wrong all the while making everyone else in line feel like an asshole for having to correct him. Very unprofessional, very chaotic and unpleasant. It should not be the customers responsibility to keep the peace and order

Brandon W.

Yelp
The prices and portions are not compatible. I am also not happy that my straw barely reaches the bottom of my large drink. The workers are not friendly. Overall the food was good, but just that, good.
google avatar

Jaclyn T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I love panda, but will be heavily questioning whether or not we go again after this. Long hairs were in his chow mein and beef. Blehhh. Be sure to check your food before you dive in. He pulled one of the hairs out of his mouth.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
My fortune said, "Be willing to admit your mistakes." Okay. Choosing here was definitely a mistake. I'm not sure what the draw is here. The entree selections are either empty and not available when you want them, or look like they were dished out when the original Ming dynasty was in power. For the price I should have just found a hole-in-the-wall Chinese buffet with better selection and the ability to get some soup and dessert too!

Taylor H.

Yelp
Employees are legit NPCs, and they do not wear gloves. Saw the employee put my noodle back on the tray with his bare hand.
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
Wasn't going in looking for a 5 star experience, after all it is Panda Express. I was also not looking to be ignored for the first 5 minutes while standing to order. Employees weren't personable or friendly at all, took 15 minutes from the time I walked in the door to the time I left with my to-go order and not one time did they apologize or even say, "we'll be right with you." Food was what I was expecting at least and was decent take out Asian. Staff could use some work in hospitality for sure.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
Sometimes you just need some Panda Express. No, it's not authentic. No, it's not "good." But sometimes it's just exactly what you need and nothing else will do, you know? This location is fine. There's often a line, but it moves quickly. And there are plenty of tables inside and outside, although I'm a loyal "to go" girl myself. I like their healthier (non deep fried) options they've been adding to the menu lately, and I'm just not into things that are breaded and then doused in sauce, but they've got all the old favorites, too.

Deshaun L.

Yelp
The food was bland. The drinks. Bland. I ordered the honey walnut shrimp which is supposed to be flavorful and mine was bland. The Beijing beef and I could barely understand the person taking my order because of the mask

Zachary B.

Yelp
A lot of negative reviews here. I have only had positive experiences at this location though! I usually go right before the lunch rush (11:30ish), or at 3Pm. The food is has always been fresh. Ever got the first scoop out of a fresh cooked Beijing Beef? Also, given the selection in Nashville, this Chinese food is honestly better than any Chinese Food, I've had around here
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
This was at a time that is later than I am usually there, but the line moved quickly. It appeared that the store was staffed with another person than normal. I got in, all items were readily available, and I left. For me, this was the ideal fast food experience. Everyone is always friendly, but sometimes they do not have all of the dishes ready and I have to call an audible. This time a 10 out of 10!

Yelp
I've always liked Panda Express. I think the first one I went to was in Cool Springs Mall years ago. I also run into them quite a bit when I'm out in Cali. This location is nice because the food is always fresh, mostly due to the constant flow of people in and out going to 100 Oaks or Hollywood 27 movie theater. Although I'm not a big fan of peas and carrots in my fried rice or the extra cabbage in my chow mein, the main dishes make up for it. Some of my faves: Mushroom Chicken, Chicken and String Beans, Kobari Beef, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and Eggplant Tofu. The company likes to tout itself as "Gourmet Chinese Food," but I'm not sure why. It's decently priced and always fills me up. Strangely, it doesn't make me hungry an hour later like other Chinese places can.

Yelp
I have eaten here three times now and all three times, I am not impressed but hey its Fast Food Chinese food...so what do we expect right??? The place is so small and always crowded. So, I thought, hey it must be good !! Right?? Large Crowds...but not the case in my opinion. And again, this entire review is MY OWN OPINION...so don't base your choices on me... The staff is really nice, but they are always in a hurry and I feel like I am Rushed...I don't like that feeling. I have to make decisions quickly...literally split second decisions or they will go on to the next person and just leave you standing there. Even though there is a bank of employees in the rear ( you can see them cooking) and fresh food is being pumped out quickly...I just don't like the taste of much of it. The prices are sort of high, and they give you small portions I feel. With taxes and drink, it totals about $10 or more per person, so I would rather go to a buffet for that price...at least I will have more decisions but mainly I will not be RUSHED... I am going to say the RUSHED feeling is the main reason I don't like this place. The third visit was MY LAST visit....sorry Panda Express, You are Just NOT for ME....but on a better note...the staff smile a lot and the place is bright and clean...just small and crowded.

Yelp
Great Management and customer service. This Panda Express is impressive. Just watched the manager go over to two elderly woman and be so sweet and helpful.

Kender B.

Yelp
I typically love Panda Express, but this location is a very bad example of what Panda can be. Other reviewers that have mentioned being ignored for extended times before being acknowledged are spot on. Once they actually start to help you it's in a very non friendly, unwelcoming way. It makes you feel like you're inconveniencing them by being there. The food has issues too, I'm currently eating burnt rice. There's literally chunks of black rice. It tastes like a campfire. I've also been charged for larger drink sizes than I've ordered, so there's some potentially shady practices going on too. Thought third time might be the charm... but it's looking like I may not return to this location.
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
I have eaten at this location several times and it is usually good and fairly clean. I am disappointed that they switched from Pepsi products to Coke products however. Otherwise, I would recommend it.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Meh. I know its fast food Chinese, but I've had better Panda Express elsewhere. Chow mein was stale, like eating gummi worms. The chicken was nice and tender though. They ran out of Teriyaki chicken and I was told it would be "1 minute" and brought to my table... It was closer to ten minutes, but hey, fried rice by itself is not so bad (sarcasm). Lots of young folk working there, which isn't necessarily a problem, if they are trained properly. I like when I get customer-centric workers. When a patron walks into a restaurant or store and you have to wait for the employees to finish their conversations, it's annoying and a sign of poor customer service. Am I right or am I right? Food: Meh. Customer service: Meh. Parking: Okay. Price: Good. Actual Pandas: None. Maybe next time.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
This location has really gone down in quality! The honey walnut shrimp used to be so good, the past 4 times or so I've been there it's soggy and bland, I'm not sure if they've changed it but I think I'll just give up on it, you pay extra for it and it's not very good anymore. Every time I'm there, the drink machine is broke or there is no ice. OR, they only have large cups, which are huge and they charge you for the large even though you wanted a small and they don't have the cups. Today, there was no ice (or small cups anyway) and the bottled drinks were all warm. They really need to step it up, it used to be a good location. It's just getting worse every time.

Yelp
Since this is a chain restaurant that is typically found in mall food courts or airports the reviews of this place will probably be bad and some terrible personal experience someone had. I like this panda express because its located next to some cool shopping locations (electronic express, Russ, tjmax, pet smart, Michaels crafts) so you can grab lunch while shopping. They have a ton of choices at this location. They have 6-7 different chicken dishes atleast! The food line is clean however the tables never seem to be bussed and the trash is always over flowing. The food over all is fresh and good tasting. Considering Nashville is the worst town for good Chinese food I'm happy this Panada Express is here!
google avatar

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
Panda Express is fast food chinese - but it hasn't disappointed. My husband and I are from Los Angeles where there were a lot of these, so we were so excited when Nashville got one! It's similar to Pei Wei - but is clearly more "fast food." I love the Orange Chicken. My husband always gets the Kung Pao Chicken. The Golden Treasure Shrimp is great, too. You can't really go wrong. I also like the Veggie Egg Rolls. I recommend the two entree plate: Pick Fried Rice, White Rice, Chow Mein, or Veggies. I usually get half White Rice and half Chow Mein. Then pick two items.... Yum! They give you a fortune cookie too! :) TIP: You get more food if you order to-go....even if you eat there. :)

Yelp
Two years in Nashville and the best Chinese food restaurant still currently open (What happened to Bamboo Garden?) is Panda Express. And this makes me a sad panda. Well, Panda Express is definitely American Chinese food, it is filling, and it is cheap (around $6-8 per meal). I would give it a C+ for authenticity, due to surprisingly good Gan Bao Chicken and stuff like black pepper and celery chicken and the honey walnut chicken that was always a guilty pleasure of mine as a kid. Heck, I'm even support the orange chicken Panda Express claims to have invented. On the other hand, they get docked for the sweet and sour and Mandarin Chicken. Really, any dish with only meat on it should be skipped, for it will be liberally doused in sauce. The food is cooked pretty quickly by a very visible kitchen team (with woks!), and service is prompt and friendly. There is little I can complain about here. ...except during lunch and dinner, when this place is jammed with people like sardines. Please Nashville, get a good Chinese restaurant. This is killing me.

Yelp
This was my first time here and I got there yesterday around 3 pm . Every thing ( most of the bowl )was empty . I asked for the steak and they told me I have to wait 5 to 10 minutes, the girl wasn't nice or friendly , I asked some questions and she acted so impatient I got the beef broccoli and it was hardly any beef in it and I also got spicy beef which was cold and not fresh. The food didn't have any flavor and was not fresh ! I will never go back
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
I loved this location. It was fast and friendly. I tried a few things and then ordered what I wanted. I was sad they didn't have the mango drink their menu was promoting since my husband specifically wanted that, but otherwise it was a pleasant experience.
google avatar

Misty M.

Yelp
For fast Chinese, it's the best. Their Beijing beef is my favorite dish but their shrimp dishes are great as well! If you're in a hurry and need Chinese food to go, this is your best bet!
google avatar

Jeremy E.

Yelp
Panda Express is what it is. You aren't going to get gourmet Chinese food here, but it will be tasty for the most part. You can get in and out in 10 minutes, and the food is freshly prepared (which is half of the battle with Chinese) I still prefer a Pei Wei or PF Chang's to this, but my wife and I ate until we couldn't eat anymore and the total bill was $15.

Yelp
Now many will see this 1 star rating and likely think me a prude- but hear me out. I just moved the the Nashville area from Chicago- where I worked full tiem as a Chef for Panda Express. I know how to cook nearly all of the dishes and after tasting Tennesee's Panda quality from not one- but several different resturants I am apalled. I know for a fact- that their meat is of a lower quality- that they skimp on either the sesame oil or the cooking wine for the chow mein, (It's been a year since I actually cooked cut me a break) and that their cooking times are off. I have seen their people in charge- and it appears they RUN the place exactly as they do in Chicago. The manager's are professional and know how to do their jobs. Spendid people. THe only fault with (at the very least) 3 of the however many Panda express there are in Tennesee is the taste. I thought at one point that maybe my taste buds had changed- but I took a trip back up to Chicago a few weeks ago and tried Panda out again. Same old good taste. Quality. I hope my review does something to improve Tennessee's quality. For those interested in appealing to me about this; leeland.winfree@gmail.com I worked for the Panda express on State street. Resturant code 2012. Brian was my manager- and when I worked there Ken Chan was our District Manager- but I hear he was recently replaced? Aw well. Cheers, -L

Yelp
When I am short on cash, and I want to get something tasty that'll make me full, Panda Express is nice because I can get a nice sized box of fried rice for $2. I don't know if I saw the word "Chinese" anywhere in the store, which is probably a good thing, since the store is about as authentic Chinese as Graumann's Theater in LA is. The place is clearly a chain, and has the slick corporate look to it. But it has a nice selection of all kinds of, um... Asian-style(?) dishes, all of which are fresh and loaded with veggies and meats. If I was in the 100 Oaks area, and my family needed a quick lunch, this would almost certainly be my choice. Nice little place.
google avatar

Yelp
3 stars is definitely means A-Ok in this case. Panda Express is just that, A-Ok. Some where I will return because it happens to be one of my favorite chain Chinese food spots, but it is obviously not in the ranks with fresh, traditionally made Chinese - which is nearly impossible to find in Nashville. That situates it at 3 fabulous stars. I grew up eating at Panda Express in our Malls back home in CA, they are a staple there along with the stand alone restaurants like this one in Berry Hill near the 100 Oaks Mall. The location is super convenient, directly off of the 65 and close to 100 Oaks and the theater. We first visited during Christmas time following a hellish shopping trip, the space is clean, organized and runs like a well oiled cafeteria-style, move that tray fast- kinda place. You request your selected dishes as they scoop them into your plate and serve you over a glass barrier. Fast and efficient. I also enjoy the clear view of the grill/kithcen area where the cooks are preparing the food,. The service is quick, food served hot and the quality is better than most fast food style chains. Prices are definitely fair and they offer special items on the menu which change periodically like Coconut Shrimp which can be added to your meal or chosen as one of your "meat" choices. They also offer veggies, low mien, egg rolls, fried wonton and crab rangoon and fried rice. You can also get steamed rice if you prefer. Overall worth the visit if you are in the area to take in a movie, shop at 100 Oaks or work nearby.

Yelp
2013/026 I like going to Panda Express because it's just like a Starbuck's or McDonald's -- the food is consistent and uniform at each location. So is the seating arrangement, since this place was almost a mirror image of the ones I frequented on the other coast. I was in the shopping mall at 100 Oaks and had a hankering for something Asian-ish. I got my usual and it tasted just the way I expected it to. Up until I got to Nashville, I thought for sure I never had cream cheese in my Chinese food before. But when I saw their rangoons, I was suddenly reminded that I did have them back in California. I thought it was weird back then, too, but it didn't stop me from ordering them. The ones here had a weird herb used to season the cream cheese. I don't remember them tasting like that at other locations, but maybe it's been a while for me.
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
The staff was very nice - and the place was pretty clean. However there were three of us - and we all tried a couple different things and none of them were cooked very good. Things were quite over cooked,or the seasoning was either missing or over-powering. I would suggest sampling things ahead of time (if the line isn't too crazy)
google avatar

G K.

Yelp
The online ordering process was easy and clear, and I knew exactly where to retrieve my order. The food tasted great; fresh and flavorful (but not enough peanuts in the kung pao chicken) and I got a big meal for the money I paid. The counter server greeted me cheerfully and she was very helpful with instructing me where to find napkins and forks.

Yelp
I grew up on Panda Express, so I was pleased to see it finally expand out to Nashville. If it's busy, the food is fresh and it tastes OK. The orange chicken is what they're really known for. However, if you go during an off period, be warned: You might end up with a plate of warm vomit. Half the food is fried and all of it suffers from lingering on the hot bar. Here's a tip: sample the food before you get it. If the fried food is soggy, don't bother ordering. You're going to hate it. Otherwise, it's passable chinese food. Probably better than the greasy chinese take-away near your place, but nothing to write home about. I can only think of 4 chinese places in Nashville that I'd rather have than Panda Express.
google avatar

Shelton D.

Yelp
Qudoba / Chipotle meets Chinese. I have never been to a Panda Express before and I must say it surpassed my expectations. Everything is fresh and you can see all their cooking and ingredients out in the open. The food is NOT cooked to order. It is all already cooked, so probably best to go when they are busy. I got Pot Stickers, Kung Pow Chicken and Beijing Beef with fried rice, all for $7. It was way more food than I could eat. Everything was very fresh and quite delicious. Apparently their most popular signature dish is Orange Chicken, I'll probably try that next time. They offer over 12 different entrées to choose from. They will let you sample as many of the entrées you want by giving you a small amount on a tooth pick. They also have "Smart Wok" entrées that are 250 calories or less. The dining room is very clean and they have all kinds of choices for drinks, soda, energy drinks and several kinds of iced tea. I'd go back because of good value and great taste . I'm giving it three stars instead of four because the food is sitting under heat lamps and is not cooked to order. In my opinion for a restaurant to get 4 or 5 stars I want the food cooked to order, although for the price and taste this is quite good.

John L.

Yelp
I just got a plate from the drive through at the Nashville Charlotte Pike location. I paid extra to get the Shanghai Angus beef. When I got home, I was disappointed to find that there was hardly a decent piece of the Shanghai Angus beef, the serving was mainly gravy and vegetables!

Yelp
A great place for quick cheap "Chinese food," staff is always friendly even during stressful times such as rush hour and apparent under staffing, and it's always clean and we'll maintained.
