"Oh Panda Bear, you can't seem to win
No matter how hard you try"
(Jefferson Airplane)
I was visiting family in downstate Connecticut and we went the Panda Express route for lunch.
Their menu is gargantuan! How about 13 appetizers, 11 soups, 8 fried rice variations, 7 chow meins, 7 lo meins, 6 mein funs, 7 pork dishes, 6 chicken dishes, 6 beef dishes, 3 sweet and sour dishes, 6 seafood dishes, 8 vegetarian dishes, 6 egg foo youngs, 12 Chef and Cantonese Specials, 6 diet dishes, and 6 combination plates.
I mean seriously, you could eat here for the better part of six months and have something different every day.
I had an Egg Drop Soup and Chicken with broccoli.
The soup was unusually good. Sometimes the egg threads are so light and wispy, they are like eating cotton candy. Not so here. The egg threads were much thicker and substantial -actually quite good.
My chicken and broccoli was a good sized portion with plenty of tender chicken, nicely cooked broccoli, a tasty brown sauce that left no pools of oil behind, and a good portion of well cooked white rice. I had zero complaints at all about my food.
I'm not one of the bloggers who take off points because something isn't authentic Chinese, I grew up eating Chinese food from Jade Garden under the elevated subway on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx.
I like American-Chinese food, and Panda Express sure did a great job with my lunch as far as I'm concerned.
