Panda Gourmet Review - Ivy City - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"You can walk right in at Panda Gourmet and find a table. Even better, most of the tables are tailored for big groups eating family-style at this classic Szechuan restaurant. Located off of a Days Inn in Gateway, (yes, the hotel chain), it's easy to overlook Panda Gourmet. But if you follow the signs, you’ll find a restaurant that delivers a solid food experience at a great price. The extensive 14-page menu includes traditional dishes like mapo tofu, beef burgers, and double-cooked pork alongside Americanized faves like general tso chicken." - Omnia Saed

Who doesn't like Luke warm cold take out? I sure don't. I ordered 2 entrees and was told on phone would be 10 minutes. I arrived as advised promptly paid and waited and waited 30 minutes in all [my husband was concerned thought I got into accident]. Partial part of my order sitting awaiting egg rolls and other entree. Was not surprised when I finally got home it was barely warm.Disappointed

Google
I would say their food is a hit or miss. It’s good enough to eat once in awhile but not all the time. I got the veggie mix and while it was good it also had a lot of liquid in it. Their steamed dumplings were pretty bland and didn’t have much for a taste. I got their wonton egg drop soup last night as well and only came with wontons and they didn’t look right. I would probably order my Chinese food somewhere else.

Google
Visited my in-laws from Texas, and we decided to have dinner from this restaurant, and it was DELICIOUS. There was enough in my entree to have for three more meals. Well done.

Google
I placed an order in store on 04/20/25 the lady with a short haircut, wearing a mass and eye glasses was rude. I was placing my order and she kept cutting me off. I felt rushed to place my order and she gave me attitude when I asked a question about the ingredients used for my meal I selected. Some of the worst Chinese food I’ve EVER had. The food isn’t even good for her to be acting like that. Anyway the egg roll was good and I don’t even like egg rolls

Google
This was our first time. Years ago our favorite Chinese restaurant closed in oak creek and since then we have tried 6 different places that were so bad. The last year we've been ordering from the best of the bad places that everytime we order we say we have to try more places bc we barely like it. We have finally found our new place!!!! It was so good. The portions were 3 meals worth. We ordered rangoon's and sweet and sour chicken also.. so good. Edit: Those were the appetizers. We also both ordered lomeins.

Google

Google
I liked them much better when they had the buffet, then there's the language barrier which makes it difficult to order by phone I'm never going to get used to ordering online.

Google
Just moved to the neighborhood and tried this place for the first time. There was only one table dining in but about 10 other people picking up carryout orders when I arrived. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken dinner special and it was enough food for me to get 2 meals out of it. The pork egg roll that it came with was very good - crispy, not greasy, and flavorful. I love spicy foods and the Szechuan Chicken was advertised as spicy but I think it needs hot sauce still as its not very spicy - flavor however was excellent. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
I used to go the emperor of china on Brady street , no more . I ordered chicken noodle soup to start , they used lo mein noodles , delicious, then the moo goo gai pan with two extra shrimp egg rolls , with a crust that melted in your mouth, handmade bliss. The portion was of a generous size made with fresh chicken containing crisply cooked vegetables in a thick white sauce, the restaurant was spotless with a very brisk takeout service. The dinning area while plainly decorated was pleasantly full of contented customers who were constantly fussed over by the efficient staff, this is my third trip of many planned for the future

Yelp
I've been here several times. Crab Rangoon is great! General Tso chicken was sooo good. Unfortunately my Chicken Fried Rice was not the best, it was hard like it was under cooked. Very disappointed.

Manny R.

Yelp
Great service all the way around. Best experience I've had at any panda location! Food was fresh and place was clean.

Jerry S.

Yelp
The service at this location is horrible. Lost my order. After 2 hours I never did see it and " they didn't know what to tell me". Will not deal with this location again. It's in dire need of some maturity to handle things better. Will not order again.

Yelp
I've been meaning to review this place for some time, because it really is a hidden gem. It's at one end of a small strip mall. It seems to be a mom and pop kind of place, and some of my favorite Chinese restaurants have been that kind. I've mainly had their beef broccoli or some sort of lo mein, but my wife has been more adventurous and shares my high regard. We don't get that way too often since we live on the lower East side, but we do make a point of including a stop here in any plans that take us down 38. Like many similar restaurants, they seem to be mainly a take out place, but they have a nice row of booths and some tables, and the service has been fine. It's a very unpretentious place but worth checking out.

Malcolm W.

Yelp
Really nice food. Seemed fresh and stayed hot for our drive home to Bay View. And the portions were generous! We'll be back!

Mary K.

Yelp
Always great food and service! We enjoy their combo dinners, especially Mixed Vegetables with either chicken or shrimp, the pork fried rice and egg roll!

Ashley K.

Yelp
I went here for take out to try a new Chinese place closer to home and I'll definitely be making this my new spot! I got a selection of my favorites to try (sesame chicken, fried rice, shrimp lo mein, and crab rangoons). Everything was warm and seemed to be cooked fresh. Flavor is good for Chinese take out. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Edible = yes. Good = no. As someone newer to Oak Creek, I've been trying lots of local restaurants to find my "new favorites". Yelp rarely stars me wrong so seeing the 4 star average, felt Panda Gourmet was worth a try. I foolishly ignored the reviews referring to the fried rice as "rice-a-roni". Ease of ordering online was nice. My order was ready on time and was accurate. However, the food was not very good. The chicken fried rice was awful. It should have been called "onion rice". Where were the eggs, peas, carrots, etc.?? I've never had fried rice like this before and I hope I never do again. All you could taste or smell was onions. The only other vegetable in the dish was bean sprouts. For entrees, we ordered the General Tso's chicken and Orange Peel chicken. They were just OK. The breading was not very crispy or flavorful. The sauces were both sweet, which was expected. Even though the Orange Peel has peppers and is advertised as spicy, there was no spice to be tasted. They just missed the mark. Overall I will not be back to Panda Gourmet. Too bad because I really wanted to like them.

Michael J.

Yelp
Good staff and good food. Will be coming here again. The pork lo mein was extremely good. The noodles were nice and the sauce was good. Next time I come I will get more food to try more of what they have, what I did have was extremely good though. The restaurant was extremely clean and had enough spaces between the tables and booths to walk around without discomfort.

Yelp
We order take out quite a bit here. Fast service and reasonable prices, but the staff could be friendlier. Our favorites are the General Tsos chicken, Sweet and Sour chicken, vegetable lo mein and crab rangoons.
google avatar

Patti G.

Yelp
I'm editing this review because our visit today was somewhat flavorless. The price has gone up and the flavor has gone down. Not sure what happened. Also they did not restock with food with any urgency so bins were empty during our visit. The staff in the eating area was the same gal and very pleasant, helpful and attentive . But overall we were not as impressed as with precious visits.

Yelp
We seriously order from here at least once a week and we love it every single time! Our favorites are the fried chicken dumplings, crispy beef eggrolls, teriyaki chicken on a stick, and beef lomein. We quite literally have never gotten anything we didn't like--best Chinese in Oak Creek. 10/10 from us :)

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place because it was one of the busiest Asian places I can remember in a long time and people kept coming in all for the buffet and I was the only one to grab a lunch combo to go. The place is nice and small that looked very clean with a friendly staff to greet you as you walk in. The buffet is either cheap or the best one in the area because everyone was eating it. I ordered the General Taos chicken lunch special with pork fried rice that has a choice side and I ordered the hot and sour soup. The General Taos chicken was not hot or spicy at all with the puffy dark meat style of chicken, thick spongy breading by the time I got it home. The pork fried rice was average at best with bean spread, half cooked onions and tiny pieces of pork mostly with al dente rice, not over cooked. The broccoli had some crunch left in it that I liked. Overall it was a solid average lunch combo but not one of the really great one and I thought it would be better judging by big lunch crowd.

Patrick O.

Yelp
This my go to place for delicious food! Wife loves the crab Rangoon and I always get the General Tso Chicken. Highly recommended!

Vanetta G.

Yelp
Their food is pretty delicious and hit the spot. This is probably enough food for at least a couple of meals. I like that the sweet and sour chicken has a hint of garlic in it. I am still on the hunt for sweet and sour chicken with green peppers, onions, and pineapples in it though. The vegetable fried rice had a nice variety of fresh veggies mixed in. The wonton soup broth was perfect, but I wish you could opt for an appetizer other than soup with the lunch special. Feels a little crazy eating soup in the heat lol. I'll likely be ordering from them again.

Bill T.

Yelp
I prefer to go to panda gourmet over the other Chinese restaurants in the area because I like the food better and they are family owned. Great food at a good price!

Ria M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I ordered for our first time today. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken (pictured) and he ordered the General Taos chicken. this plate is comparable in taste to the kung pao chicken at panda express but without peanuts
google avatar

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Tasty and huge portions Staff was speedy and friendly at pick up. Love the crab Rangoon.

P 0.

Yelp
Amazing food for great prices. We only did take out and the food was warmed to perfection. I had the wonton soup and it was delicious. The people I went with also said the food was amazing and authentic.

Yelp
I was craving lo mein and Panda Gourmet hit the spot! For starters, the covid precautions they have taken are great. They've put up a plexiglass to protect staff and customers. We ordered the shrimp lo mein and Szechuan shrimp. Both dishes were delicious! I was worried that the Szechuan shrimp would be too spicy for my tolerance level but it was perfect. The variety of veggies were great and they were all very crispy. There was a good amount of shrimp in the lo mein, which I loved! The noodles were cooked perfectly. Definitely check this place out next time you're craving some Chinese food!

Yelp
Once upon a time they had buffet style dining. The food was fresh and bountiful. Great selection. I've gone once since they closed the dine in buffet. Food still good, just not as great a selection now.

Sarah G.

Yelp
It is amazing, friendly staff, the owners are so sweet and welcoming. I tell all my friends about this place. The food is fresh and delicious and huge portions for a decent price. They play peaceful music when you dine in, which I really like because music bothers me when I'm eating out with friends and family. I eat here often and my family gets get carry out as well often. (Btw The restaurant is also always clean the times I've been in that includes the restrooms)
google avatar

Amber K.

Yelp
tl;dr would give it 3 1/2 stars because good service and decent selection for the price My parents absolutely love this place for it's lunch buffet. It's very reasonably priced. We usually go on Saturdays and are always greeted and helped with excellent customer service for the woman that greets and seats everyone. Although the place is smaller, it's always very nice and clean. The food is a fair variety - soups, appetizers like spring rolls, crab rangoon, lo mein, egg foo young, fried and regular rice and then all of your main proteins/entree dishes are also available. I usually like the sauteed mushrooms, the seafood/chicken combo (chicken, shrimp, baby corn, celery and more in a white sauce), sesame chicken, kung pao chicken and these little meat dumplings that come with a flavorful soy-based sauce. Definitely great portions for what you can get at the buffet, they're also bringing fresh product (check out the donuts!) out during the busy weekend hours. I wish they would have spicier options, but I realize may not appeal to the masses. Get yourself a fresh, hot sugar-covered donut and check it out.

Gary M.

Yelp
Great, fresh Chinese eats. Love their shrimp lo mein. Pleasant help. Good hours. Highly recommended.

Yelp
For an take out style place the food was fresh and tasty. The service was quick and the prices were reasonable. Lots of good food for the money. Not much atmosphere to note but the tables were clean.

Yelp
This is the second time I've ordered takeout from here and after my most recent visit I decided it was time I write a review. I ordered the a large beef and broccoli, crab Rangoon, kung pao shrimp, and the crispy beef eggrolls. I placed an order right around noon and even with a large order they said it would only be about 10 minutes and it was! Everything was really fresh and tasted great! I think my favorite was the beef eggrolls, there's actually just ground beef on the inside of a thin crispy spring roll-though they are on the small side-more like mini spring rolls but SO good! The crab rangoons were a bit larger than normal, but also fantastic. The kung pao chicken was a little bland but unfortunately I forgot to specify "extra EXTRA hot" as I normally do.
google avatar

Kathy S.

Yelp
Never been disappointed with this place! Our go today are beef with mushrooms, wonton soup, chicken moo goo gai pan, sweet and sour combo and any of the fried rices. The almond cookies are a must as well.

Jody J.

Yelp
We dined in they were very busy with take out. Service was quick food was delicious and hot. We had enough to take home for the next day. Try the crab Rangoon delicious!
google avatar

Barb S.

Yelp
We have stopped here and had carry out several times. Every time it is the same, great food. I am a stinker when it comes to 5 stars, but this one came close. The restaurant itself, it simple, not large, but it is in a strip mall so the size fits. The servers are very nice, and the food comes as fast as it could considering it is made to order. If you want the mustard sauce for your egg roll, just grab one from the to-go items near the door. Since Tai Ping closed in South Milwaukee it has been hard to find a good Chinese restaurant near our home. My sister referred me to this place and I am so glad she did. We prefer the combo plates, as it comes with an egg roll. You get your choice of white rice or fried rice.
google avatar

Nader B.

Yelp
Food is delicious, fast service and quantity is good so everything is good they just need to learn how to smile

David E.

Yelp
Food is always good and the pricing is very reasonable. We normally do takeout and the food is always ready when promised so good service.
google avatar

Chris E.

Yelp
Nice cheap lunch buffet. Not the most items on their lunch buffet. But it was still good.
google avatar

Brant P.

Yelp
This is our favorite Chinese restaurant. The buffet on weekends is excellent. When we come in for dinners the serving size is a good portion. The staff is always friendly and efficient. I don't believe we ever had a bad experience here. I would recommend trying Panda Gourmet if you have not. Price wise they are a very good value. The buffet runs around $8 depending on your drink. 3-6 year olds are $4.85.

Yelp
Had to poke around to find a Chinese restaurant in the area I liked. Been here twice. Take out both times. The first time was a bit awkward as expected. You know find he Soy Sauce and Hot Mustard. However the food was great and that's what I came for. Second time went very well, Staff is respectful, nice and work very hard. Again the food was outstanding. I'm in. .

Mark C.

Yelp
Basically gonna reiterate what I'm reading in other reviews, as I had pretty much the same experience: the food was decent (not the best I've had, but also not the worst) and the portion was on the generous side, but the place did not look clean. Also, my appetizer and entree came with no sauces--none. But most memorable, perhaps, was the demeanor of the associate behind the glass. She was as friendly as a serial killer. I'm talking stone-cold! I've worked in food service my entire life--I even happily tipped 20% on my order, in spite of her chilling demeanor--but the exchange from beginning to end was pretty dang brutal...

Justin G.

Yelp
For years we were getting our Chinese from one specific place but for the last few years it's really dropped in quality. We we're almost ready to give up on Chinese, until we ordered from Panda Gourmet. The place was clean, the people friendly and ready for me to arrive. The food has rejuvenated our love for Chinese and Main Moon can go to the MOON. Thank you and we'll gladly return, now and forever. please do not fall off like are old place.
google avatar

Anthony Z.

Yelp
Since moving to Milwaukee I've struggled to find Chinese food that I like. Panda Gourmet is yet to disappoint. My family and I like the General Tso, beef n broccoli, and Singapore noodles just to name a few. They offer good sized portions at a great price, and their quality remains consistent.
google avatar

Ari R.

Yelp
This is our favorite go to for take out Chinese food. They make everything fresh and use the best ingredients! It's conveniently located and has a great set up for covid safety standards. I highly recommend Panda Gormet!

Gia F.

Yelp
Favorite Chinese takeout in the area! They always have my pick-up orders ready within 20 minutes. They also have the best COVID-19 safety precautions I've seen! You go inside to pay where they have a plexiglass barrier to protect customers and employees. You wait outside if the order isn't ready and they'll bring it out to you with gloves and face masks worn. They also provided hand sanitizer inside. I have no concerns ordering from Panda Gourmet during this pandemic. Their extensive safety measures have certainly earned my support during these trying times.

Shirl G.

Yelp
Best Chinese restaurant in Oak Creek for sure! Good location, quick and friendly service. The chicken egg foo young and shrimp egg rolls are awesome.

Roger T.

Yelp
The food and meals at Panda Gourmet is reasonably priced and always good. I believe they use fresh ingredients and always cooked correctly. I purchase their food quite often.
google avatar

Mara B.

Yelp
Well, I just asked my hubs if it is 3 or 4 stars? He said "For the Panda? I'm a FAN!". He actually eats here about once a month for the lunch buffet, we dine for dinner about once every 3 months and we always have excellent service, very consistent tasty, hot food. I tried something new there for me, Mongolian Beef and it was excellent. I have a lot of leftovers and will try it again. I like the egg foo young, General Taos and hot and sour soup. Any of the duck and shrimp dishes are very good too. The crab rangoon are also quite good. Nothing "super authentic", but they will adjust heat upon request. They also have a busy take out business.
google avatar

Sima N.

Yelp
We had take out tonight our order of dumplings was missing and I was charged for it. Food seemed like it was microwaved and we paid over $50. Place looked a bit dirty. Would not recommend it.
google avatar

Margaret W.

Yelp
Love the buffet (too bad lately couldn't go because of COVID-19). Definitely will go again after this whole virus thing ends.
google avatar

Phillip B.

Yelp
I really love Panda Gourmet. It's really a 4.5 star rating. I used to live in Oak Creek and this was my spot. I moved to the Racine area a decade ago, but we still order from here because we haven't found a place in Racine that comes close. My wife says they have the best Crab Rangoon she has had. We also really enjoy the sesame chicken and egg rolls. We mainly do take out, but have eaten in a few times.
google avatar

Roger T.

Yelp
I eat here often. The food is always great and the staff are friendly and helpful. I'll go back, probably many times.
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
It was somewhat okay... The food was not really that good however, the service was wonderful.

Kevin B.

Yelp
Love their food. In town for a wedding and ordered takeout. Fried Dumplings, Beef Lo Mein, Honey Chicken and Mu Shu Pork. All were delicious. Before the COVID they had the best lunch buffet. Varied items, always fresh.
