The Best Ice Cream, Gelato, and Soft Serve in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This sweet spot near City Park is known for its sno-balls, but it also has some ragingly delicious soft serve and sundaes. Plenty of outdoor seating. Dogs are welcome at Pandora’s — and treated to a sno-ball selection of their own." - Beth D’Addono

Where to Eat in and Around New Orleans’s City Park | Eater New Orleans

"Visiting City Park in the warmer months? Then a stop at this Mid City favorite is a must. Pandora’s goes heavy on the syrup and flavors range from the tame, like wild cherry, to the funky, like the creamy Tootsie Roll. There are ample shady, picturesque spots to enjoy a sno-ball. There’s also hot tamales for sale, a classic combo." - Beth D’Addono

Where to Eat Sno-Balls in New Orleans Right Now

"This Mid City favorite usually has a line to rival Hansen's. Pandora's goes heavy on the syrup and flavors range from the tame, like wild cherry, to the funky, like the creamy Tootsie Roll. The good thing is City Park and Bayou St. John are very close by, so there's ample shady, picturesque spots to enjoy a sno-ball. Sugar-free options too." - Beth D'Addono, Eater Staff

I was in the mood for a snoball today. It was hot but still breezy, so initially, we stopped over at Plum Street snoballs, but they were closed to enjoy the festivities. It was difficult to find parking, driveways, cones blocking sections- ALL that. We finally found somewhere to park then we had to wait in a looong line. As I said b4 it was hot & the sun was BEAMING!🥵 We placed our orders & then we had to wait until our snowballs were made. Luckily the waiting area for the people that ordered already was in a shady area which was a RELIEF. We got our snoballs & they were Great! I had the Dreamsicle flavor in LARGE. Bae got his in MEDIUM in Cucumber Melon & Peach. He said the cucumber melon really didn't have much flavor tho. Anyway it was a great escape from the heat even if it was only for awhile. Thanks Pandora!

You MUST try this community staple for nachos or a snowball whenever you are in New Orleans. Delicious and tasty treats to cool down your day. So many flavors and options to choose from.

A Sweet Treat for the Summer Heat Part 1 Read Time 1-3 mins I decided to drive over to the New Orleans’s Famous Pandora’s and to my surprise I was pleasantly pleased. I needed a cool sugar boost after my City Park workout and boy did this not disappoint. I arrived to a strategically placed corner spot building with on street parking. It was so easy to spot and the long line was a dead giveaway that these snowballs had to be delicious. I quickly found a street park and got in line. The line moved expeditiously and I was greeted with a warm smile to take my order when it was time. I’m a fan of watermelon as a summer treat so I choose watermelon and lime for a cool refreshing sweet treat. The price was a little bit more than usual for a snowball but hey quality and location tends to up the price in any situation. Now to the main attraction the snowball. First let me start by saying. WOW! I took an immediate sip and had to close my eyes to savor the moment. The syrup was sweet but not too sweet and it was more than enough to cover the ice. After that first sip I had to take a spoonful of snowball and the ice melted in my mouth to my satisfaction. I love Pandora’s and can’t wait to try other flavors and maybe even an ice cream. All I can say is cheers to you and as I sip on the last bits of my soft sweet snowball. Jeanne’ Jasmine Thompson IG: itsjayjasmine

I was born and raised in New Orleans. We live out of state. Over the last four years of visiting we always place Pandora on the top of the list. It’s very sad that this place is always closed and the google hours are never update. After 4 attempts we finally got a snowball. Update to your reply: Your business is not the only snowball stand open year around. Due to being a small business I will not name others around the city. I worked for several snowball companies around the city as a youth. I know when the season is. Secondly, you might want to take a better approach when replying to your customers. If you would have been more concerned in explaining the transition, I would have updated my review. Next time, try explaining and asking the reviewer to update or delete the negative review. Please do not worry. We will never return to your business and this is the main issue with the city, nobody wants to improve processes. When given feedback, the customer gets attacked. This is nothing personal. I am a small business owner myself. Wishing you the best with your small business venture.

Google
As much as I normally love this place, I just got a pinecolda snowball with condensed milk and they drenched the ice in so much syrup and condensed milk it became slushy. Not hard to make a snowball and this was not it

Kevin Kwok

Google
Absolutely neighborhood gem. Great prices. Service with a smile. Snowball flavors are yummy and the nachos are great

Adrienne Ackert

Google
I usually love this snowball stand. The quality of the ice, flavors and service are great. I decided to try Dreamsicle today and other than the color, there’s nothing orange about it. It’s entirely vanilla and like drinking vanilla coffee syrup. I really wanted the orange flavor on this hot summer day. I noticed it at first before I left but thought the flavor would change or taste the orange as I worked my way through the snowball but that wasn’t the case and it missed the mark. Not a flavor I would recommend.

Valerie Bouldin

Google
One of my favorite snowball stands. My favorite flavor combination is grape and lemon-lime. I call it a Hulk. If there is something better on a blazing hot New Orleans day than a snowball, I don't know what it is.

Yelp
What we ordered: *Granny Smith and Sour Watermelon Snowball with Condensed Milk *Granny Smith, Sour Grape, and Wild Strawberry So good, worth the wait - we were in line for about 20 mins and received our treats about 5 minutes after we placed our order.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly service, loved the honeydew melon snowball I got with condensed milk as a topping! No seating options though. But refreshing on a warm day!

Yelp
Used to love this place. Like since childhood. Was optimistic when it was bought out by the new owners because of the electronic payment options and the ice cream. But man, the staff dismissiveness is high. These folks don't really seem invested, perhaps inconvenienced by your patronage? Weird. Also, drove an hour to ensure a friend from out of town could experience this childhood favorite and they closed the line early. Cared not that we'd sped down the highway to make it in time and that their posted hours say NOTHING about closing at 6:30 or 6:45. Anywho, I think it's time to promote another sno-ball spot to the top spot and perhaps give folks another alternative near City Park. Praying for an entrepreneurial sno ball enthusiast and loves this community and it's people and understands the importance of integrity in customer service.

Yelp
Pandora's is a NOLA snowball staple. You know you're going to get quality when you come here. Quality service and quality flavors. The only thing that is less than favorable is the long lines/wait. I know they move as quickly as they can and it's good that they're busy...however, it's crazy hot outside so it would just be nice if things moved a bit quicker.
google avatar

Tori M.

Yelp
One of my favorite snoball stands for how much you get for your money, ice cream stuffing, and flavor variations. My go to is tigers blood with ice cream and condensed milk. They also have other snacks like nachos and hotdogs. They also take card now! Yay! ONLY downside is there is literally no seating. Also the neighboring businesses don't seem friendly to loitering...
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Of all the snowball stands I've tried in the city pandora's still holds #1 for me. Service is very friendly and though the lines can get pretty long they get the orders out in a timely manner. I love the verity of flavors and toppings that they offer. Great spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Pandora's is a staple in New Orleans. I returned to New Orleans for my birthday bringing along about 20 people who have never been. I had to stop here and let them taste what a snoball is supposed to taste like. I stuck with my usual pink lemonade stuffed with condensed milk on top. My same order of 20something years. It still tastes the same. Great service as usual. I can't wait until my next visit home. Thanks, Pandora!

Camille B.

Yelp
Two things: the snowballs here are pretty good. The ice is very fluffy. HOWEVER. the unreliable hours and some of the rude staff members ruin it. Do not rely on this place being open when they say they are. I can't tell you how many times I've visited because the hours say they are open and they aren't. Also, they close 15 minutes earlier than the advertised time. I will be back here for the convenience of this place being close to my house will NEVER be tipping their workers again :)
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
There was a short line when we arrived. Nice staff and helpful in sharing which flavors were most popular. It was $3 for a small and they could do up to 3 flavors. The flavors were all artificial and will stain your tongue! Ice consistency was good but flavors were sub par. Note it's a cash only place
google avatar

Vanessa A.

Yelp
Saw this place while on the streetcar to the park. After walking through the Sculpture Garden this was a nice, cool treat. I ordered a small snowball with peach and mango. There are so many flavors to choose from! I'm glad the syrups they use are not overly sugary. The actual flavors weren't that distinct though. I could taste the peach a little bit but not so much the mango. Luckily I didn't travel too far to enjoy my snowballs because my cup busted and could've easily ruined my clothes and shoes!
google avatar

Lorena C.

Yelp
Good Snowballs, lots of choices. You can add ice cream or condensed milk which is our fav. Good and quick service by a small team of friendly folks. Order on the corner, pay on the street side at the order pick up window. Street parking with things to do in the area. I forgot to say, Cash Only.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Long lines usually means good grubbin and true to form, this did hit the spot after a long day in City Park! Mix those cones with ice cream for the best treat!
google avatar

Shane M.

Yelp
Best Snoballs around! An institution in the City of New Orleans and been in business since 1970!

J G.

Yelp
Used to love this place before the new owners. Food quality of everything way down. Employees are rude. They constantly closing earlier than their posted hours. Will kick you out of line before close time.
google avatar

Yelp
The snowballs here are amazing!! When you ask for condensed milk they always hook you up! My mom and little brother love coming to Pandora's on the weekend!

Yelp
Pandora came HIGHLY recommended from my Atlanta-NOLA snowball family and it DID NOT disappoint! Everything was delicious as expected ..tried some new flavors and got some of my old favorites! My bestie and I thoroughly enjoyed this stop! Please keep in mind this is a CASH ONLY business and they do graciously take tips! It's located right on the corner and the service is quick! Get there New Orleans!
google avatar

Levette D.

Yelp
It was so hot today and I was dying for a snowball so we stopped by Pandora. I ordered a large strawberry mango lemonade with condensed milk snowball. To my disappointment it was not the best. The ice was not smooth like velvet. It was a bit clumpy and the flavors were bland. I could only differentiate the condensed milk. I did not taste the strawberry or mango. The service was great!! Even though it was busy the staff was quite friendly and personable. If you do visit it's a cash only business.
google avatar

Ahshanti S.

Yelp
This was so good!! I got the peach lemonade strawberry snowball. The ice was so good and they out the right amount of flavor in it. I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Lola Y.

Yelp
This spot was recommended to us by a local who lives in the area. I got the king cake cream flavor with condensed milk on top. SO lovely!! The service was also awesome, super friendly guy. My fiancé got the peach with condensed milk and in my opinion that was even better than the king cake. Even though you knew it was artificial flavoring, it still tasted pretty close to real peach or at least wasn't in-your-face artificial tasting! I also appreciated that it wasn't soaking with syrup and overly sweet. The ice was also really nice and fine and melted in your mouth, not that grainy chunky ice you get from a bad snow machine. All in all, it was a great way to cool down on a hot day and the price was right too!

Yelp
Snowball oh snowballs the KEY to my HEART! So glad its warmer outside I can get a snowball with no shame. I've been searching around for what I call the perfect snowball stand and just might have found it. On the corner of Carrollton and Dumaine, you'll find pandora snowballs. If your driving fast you'll pass it and up and have to make a u-turn. There are two things you need to know CASH ONLY and PARKING! Yeah I know we live in a new age you would think cards are accepted everywhere but hey it's cool I always keep cash when the weather changes. Now parking your own you can pay to park(LOSERS) or ride around the block and park in the neighborhood and walk. Now the snowballs are GREAT not GOOD GREAT I love soft ice-like melting before it gets to me and that's just what happened. I got the strawberry pink lemonade with ice cream in the middle, and it was to die for. I love when the ice is soft so it doesn't stick and ruin my ice cream this was so good and juicy. I didn't have to ask for more juice because she made sure I had more than enough. Overall the staff is the best I saw them let a few ppl try flavors before placing there order real kind and gives nice conversation for the time you wait. They are also very quick not the whole 30min wait for a snowball like some places. I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
They have one of the most important ingredients to a great New Orleans snowball : Fine Ice!!! Melts as it hits your tongue. Prices a great.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
A New Orleans classic. Can't go wrong. I have been going here since I was a kid and every time I go back to visit this place is a must on the list.
google avatar

Peyton C.

Yelp
It's hard to mess up a snow ball, but I've seen it done before. Never at Pandora's though! I feel like you get a great portion and a good helping of syrup for the price, and you gotta try it stuffed with ice cream for the full experience! They are cash only, so be prepared for that! Such a great way to stay cool this summer!
google avatar

Aprille C.

Yelp
People said when we visit NOLA, snowballs are a thing we should have. They're like shave ice or snow cones. So we made our way up to Pandora's in the rain. It's just a window, no inside to sit. Super friendly staff with a million flavors! I had pomegranate and mango and he had banana mango. Good but not amazing. But I can imagine they'd be great in the summer.

Rachel T.

Yelp
This was a great treat after a hot day in the sculpture garden. The cotton cast stuffed snowball was our favorite. The service was fast and the staff was friendly. It was so good we had to come back the next day!

Cal M.

Yelp
I never write reviews, but I need to say this is the best snowball I've had in my life. They know what they are doing.
google avatar

Theresa M.

Yelp
Had 4 grandchildren visiting from Ohio and introducing them to New Orleans snowballs was a must for their visit. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
google avatar

Sabrina N.

Yelp
It was really hot out today and I thought it was the perfect weather for a snowball. I pass by Pandora's all the time and finally was able to try it. Their soft serve ice cream is the best I had in a while and the two flavors I got were delicious together. *I think Orchid and Nectar, the person at the register recommended it to me* Definitely coming here again :)

Troy S.

Yelp
I used to go here every week before I moved around two years ago. It was close by my house so I decided to give it a try. Best choice I have ever made. The snowballs are amazing , but my favorite was spearmint. Now every time I smell or taste spearmint it brings back great memories and leaves me wanting to go back for more. The people there are so nice. I'm definitely going to have to come back next time I'm out there.
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Stopped by here after going to NOMA and it was the best sno ball we ever had our entire visit. We got the wild strawberry and red velvet flavor, both of which were drowned in the syrup to perfection. It was also reasonably priced and the service was fast and friendly. For sure hit the spot on a hot New Orleans day, and we highly recommend it!
google avatar

Anthony A.

Yelp
Great as usual. This great spot has been at this location for years and is such a great treat on a warm spring day or hot summer. There are so many flavors too choose from that one must visit multiple times just too try the core flavors. There are nachos and other snacks that you can purchase here but the snow balls are it's stable!!! Awesome with a capital A

B E.

Yelp
I wasn't impressed!! My review is based on the sugar-free flavors- I've tried four flavors- Spearmint, Wedding Cake, Bubble Gum, Ice Cream, and all taste like flavored water. This last trip I added ice cream and condensed milk for added flavor and still was not impressed. Additionally, I waited at the window for nearly 10 min despite there only being two people waiting for a Snoball on a Sunday and received no acknowledgment despite locking eyes with the worker when I first got to the window. I gave two stars as my review is based only on sugar-free options and given the lines I've seen in the pat I can't help but think the sugar options are good.
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the banana split and my family had snowballs a couple of them with condensed milk. My favorite snowball was red velvet with condensed milk. Short ride from city park.

Chelsea T.

Yelp
I see why this place has been in business 51 years! $7.50 for two big snow cones is a deal. Huge menu of flavors including cream, they have regular concession food too such as nachos, sausage, etc. They use a lot of flavoring on their cones too.
google avatar

Bridget L.

Yelp
A great treat on a hot Louisiana day! To start with the bad: there was a darn long line. With not enough employees, each snowball took forever to make. Waited outside in the burning heat for 20 minutes. Now, moving on to the positive: it was a huge cup for a dirt cheap price. The snow was so soft! I had the king cake flavor, a New Orleans specialty. Honestly, it wasn't my favorite, but it was nice to try once. They have a ton of exciting flavors, and I wish I had lavender vanilla instead. Also, I don't see any difference between cream and normal flavors, even though cream costs extra. All-in-all, I don't really see why NOLA is famous for their snowballs (I can get just as good or better in Austin), but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
google avatar

Lourdes L.

Yelp
This is the best snowball I have had in New Orleans. Would recommend adding condensed milk to your snowball. Quick and friendly service!
google avatar

Jeeth Boba F.

Yelp
Orchid snowball was ok. The vanilla soft serve was really good. Cash only.
google avatar

Alisha R.

Yelp
My son's favorite after school treat. He always orders a "rainbow" snowball and I ask them to put in a big cup! My usual order is a cherry snowball and nachos with extra peppers! So New Orleans!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
I haven't had a Pandora's snowball since 2002, which was before I left for sunny Southern California ( a land whereby they only know shaved ice, and not a true NOLA style snowball). I had passed by a few times only to find them closed, even during times in which their posted business hours stated they would be open for business. However, living nearby and constantly passing by on my frequent trips to Winn Dixie, I knew it would only be a matter of time before I found them open. Well, it finally happened just recently. Pandora's was open for business and there were only 2 people in line. I ordered an orchid cream at the request of my spouse, as she had just tried one at Robert's in Harahan and probably wanted to make her own mental comparison. (So did I). As we all know, a great snowball starts with great ice, and Pandora's ice is almost, and I mean ALMOST as soft as Hansen's; and that says a lot. The orchid cream syrup is as aesthetically pleasing as it is delicious; and the purple is a subtle shade I have not seen elsewhere. This was a delicious snowball that can hold its own with any of the NOLA big time snowball stands. I would like to give Pandora's 4.5 stars, but their somewhat unreliable hours has garnered them a 4 star rating in "my book". All in all this place still rocks, and the staff is super friendly too.

Layla T.

Yelp
As a snowball stand in New Orleans, on a Monday, with 100 degree weather why are you guys closed? Online it says you open from 12-7. Unprofessional & very inconvenient.
google avatar

Blessing E.

Yelp
I went here with some friends after class and personally I wasn't too impressed, but it was nice spot. It was about a 6/10, however, I'm willing to try again just in case it was the flavor... they have tons to choose from. I tried the "wild strawberry" that tasted really generic and plus I spilled some on my white lab coat from the juice overflow, so my second impression is hopefully better lol.
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
Had the wild cherry Sugar Free snoball. Excellent. Quick service. Highly recommended for a hot day near City Park.
google avatar

Bre B.

Yelp
With my best friend spending her summers in New Orleans she has always told me that I have never had a snowball until I've had one from there. She's right! The line was around the corner and it is standing room only, you literally Park in the neighborhood and walk there. And it is well worth it! They have so many flavors and they actually offer a lot of new orleans-style food. We were so surprised at the prices as well! My friend was able to feed herself and two children for about $10 with Everyone having their own entree and snowball. I tried the hot sausage. I ordered it thinking that it was going to be a hot link Style sausage in a bun because when I ordered it he asked if I wanted all the toppings which included things such as mustard, pickles, onions, the usual hot dog toppings! I ordered it with only cheese and mustard (because that is how I like my hot links) and the guy sort of question me and ask if I was sure that's what I wanted?! LOL at first I thought it was just the New Orleans personality of him questioning me but once I got the sandwich I saw why. It was literally a hot sausage "patty" like Burger style and all I had on it was mustard and the cheese they gave me. It was still good but I do wish that I would have ordered it with the usual toppings. I did get a snowball as well, I got the butter pecan cream flavor it was so good! It did not taste like fake or imitation syrup it definitely is of a good quality I can see why they are so popular! If you are looking for good authentic New Orleans Snowballs and cheap eat this is your place!
google avatar

Candace S.

Yelp
The snowballs at Pandora are delicious. The customer service is great and the price is even better. You can get a traditional New Orleans treat that is refreshing, fast and inexpensive. I have patroned this stand since I was a little girl. I can remember coming here with my family after spending time right up the street at City Park.
google avatar

Lydia H.

Yelp
After a warm day of walking in City Park, I headed over to Pandora's with my sister for a treat. This was my first time having a Snowball and it was really good. Pandora's is a window that you order from. There are so many different flavors to choose from! Great variety. It seems like there is a constant flow of people at Pandora's. After you place your order, you can watch the person make your Snowball! I've had shaved ice before, but Pandora's shaved ice is shaved very fine, which is nice. They also don't skimp on the flavoring. There aren't seats, but you can go to the island and sit at the bus stop! Just a suggestion. Great place to cool down and enjoy a Snowball!
google avatar

A H.

Yelp
The "softness" of the shaved ice is amazing! So smooth!! Would've given 5 stars if the tangerine hadn't been so lackluster. That might've been my mistake, there might've been better flavors on the menu, but citrus sounded so good at the time. It was sweet and orange, but I just wasn't tasting much tangerine... I was a bit overwhelmed by the choices for flavoring---not only are there a ton of regular flavors, but also almost as many cream flavors plus sugar free options---as well as some I wasn't quite sure of. Grasshopper? Tiger's blood? They also had food like burgers, dogs, but everyone in front of me ordered shaved ice so I didn't want to veer off the well-beaten road. I only got a small, but it was the perfect portion---looked like a 16oz cup with a well-formed mound on top. Cash only (ATM in bar across the street), line flows quickly. Would like to go back and try a cream flavor to see if that'll bump them up to 5 stars in my book. All in all, would recommend!
google avatar

Sonya S.

Yelp
I order the cookie dough snow cone It wasn't like a regular snow cone with juice poured over the ice. It was a flavor that seemed as ice cream was in it. The snow cones were very inexpensive. They except cash only. They will give you as many samples as you like due to there's so many to choose from
google avatar

Nicoya W.

Yelp
I love love love love love love love pandora's!!!! I've been coming here for years. Flavors out the yang to choose from. I go for the sky blue cream & lavender orchid vanilla mix. Amazing. Delicious. They have the softest ice in the city, just melts in your mouth and omg omg omg...I can't. Always sad when the season ends, I crave them in the offseason. I go at least 2-3 times a week during the season. I love them.
google avatar

Lauren D.

Yelp
Of all the snowballs I've eaten in my life, I've probably had Pandora's the most. There's so many flavors to choose from and the ice is so perfectly shaved but sometimes they can be a little skimpy on the syrup. My mom is a Wedding Cake fan but I love the lemon-lime!
google avatar

Cassie B.

Yelp
Bang for your buck: 10/10 Quality: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance/Location: 10/10 Overall: 10/10 There's just nothing like a snowball on a hot day. Pandora's is conveniently located off of the street car line and near City Park. The line is never super long and it moves quickly. There are a TON of flavors to choose from, and they're willing to let you try some of them if you're struggling to decide. I love the option of creamy and original flavors and the ability to mix both.
