I have to apologize: I'm doing this restaurant a disservice by writing a
review while I'm still full from the mind-blowing dinner that I just had. I should really wait until I regain control of my senses so I can do it justice, but I'll try my best while the experience is still fresh in my mind.
We visited on a Tuesday evening with a crowd of about ten, and could have not felt more welcomed. We had the good fortune of chatting with owners, a trio of sisters, before starting our meal, and they did an excellent job of pointing out some of the highlights on the menu.
Per their recommendations, we ordered some chicken wings to start. The country battered barbecue wings and the "wet Cajun" wings were phenomenal -- extra-crispy and full of flavor -- and a nice change from the standard Buffalo wing fare. For dinner, we ordered a variety of the soul food-oriented offerings on the menu - catfish, shrimp, fried chicken, ribs, and so forth. Each meal came with FIVE sides - collard greens, mac and cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, and cornbread! Considering each dinner was in the $10-$15 range, that's quite a bargain!
Everyone in my group agreed that this was probably the best soul food we'd tried in Buffalo to date. I was especially pleased with the mac and cheese and the collard greens. Collards can be hard to get just right, but these were tender, savory, and flavorful.
I'll be back again for takeout soon! Tell your friends about this hidden gem.
