The 14 Best Hoagies In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"When does a hoagie stop being just a hoagie and become part of your daily routine, like brushing your teeth or sending spam calls to voicemail? When they come from P&S Ravioli Company, that's when. Every hoagie at this South Philly shop is gigantic, but the toppings like roasted pepper, lettuce, and balsamic glaze make them the most refreshing thing ever served on a roll. The one that keeps us coming back is the Spicy Turkey, layered with thinly sliced cracked pepper turkey and hot pepper cheese on a long, sesame-covered roll." - alison kessler, candis mclean

I called ahead to place my lunch order, but when I arrived, it wasn’t ready despite the time I was given. I could see that the order was being prepared, but it took longer than expected. While waiting, the staff prioritized a group of police officers, and when I asked for an update, I was told just a few more minutes. Ultimately, I wanted to cancel the order because I was running out of time. The employee’s response was unnecessarily rude, (she slammed by hoagie on the counter and shouted here something smart) and it felt like I was being treated differently because of the other customers present. The food is great, but this experience definitely left a lot to be desired. The older women there did their best to apologize to me and keep all things civilized. I appreciate them! The younger woman who slammed my food and behaved like a 12 year old adolescent, do better!

Google
The raviolis are fantastic and have been using for over 25 years. Unfortunately if you buy in the grocery stores most will have cracks from thawing and refreezing. Last batch 36 raviolis and not a single one intact. Completely ruined New Years eve dinner.

Google
First time there. Looks like a great place. Woman behind the counter was terrific explaining the food options. I was lucky enough to find a parking spot. It seems that regulars order ahead and just double park out front.

Google
Really nice people, but what they call chicken cutlets look like chicken patties from high school. They were awful unfortunately.

Google
An excellent local deli that also makes it's own pasta, which is also very good. Hoagies are the cheapest in the neighborhood.

Dan Miranda

Google
PS: The best hoagies are at P&S.

Yelp
Great service very clean. Awesome, food always delicious. Delicious. The place is always busy. You need to call ahead before you get there so you don't have to wait long. They have also Sicilian bloody orange and Italian lemon soda.

Yelp
Looking for an outstanding Italian sandwich while in Philadelphia - come to P+S Ravioli on Oregon St. I've had sandwiches from Italian delis in Boston's North End and this one in Philly's Italian neighborhood is a true rival. A tiny storefront, with exceptiknally friendly counter service, I've come back here several times just to pick up a sandwich to take home to DC. Walk in order, wait for a few while sandwiches are prepared right in front of your events, this is reminiscent of a bygone day when neighborhood stores were the norm A plethora of choices on the menu - each more mouth watering than the last - I've chosen "the godfather" both times. Perfect bread, well stuffed with meats, tomatoes, lettuce, onions - this sandwich does not disappoint. I even grabbed a couple of torrones to have as a special treat afterward. I will absolutely be back. Again and again. And next time, I'll even remember to take some pictures

Yelp
I had ordered a Tuna salad hoagie regular size not the small!!!! I had to cut it in half and give someone the other half. It was really good. The employees are friendly and answer any questions you might have. I normally buy their ravioli and gnocchi. This is a really great Italian deli.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Finest quality and great service. My go to place when in South Philly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Really great. Love how the hoagies are named. Should try "The Maria". Also many nice italian specialties.

Yelp
Got the veggie P&S sandwich with fried eggplant and sharp provolone and red peppers. It was huge and $10 and solid, though a little dry - needed some balsamic drizzle and olive oil. It's an adorable spot though and packed with loyal customers.

Yelp
I was in the mood for a top tier, no joke hoagie and was in the neighborhood. I haven't stopped in P&S for awhile, so I was way overdue! I love walking in and seeing the Italian groceries, looking in the coolers at the dessert offerings and homemade goodies. The staff is kind and helpful and it's always a pleasure to watch your sandwich being created while you wait. On this trip I was feeling one of their Spicy Hoagies. The Spicy Italian has Hot Sopressata, Sharp Provolone (the real sharp legit kind!) and Hot Ham Capicolla was my choice. I asked for the regular sized on a seeded Liscio's roll which came to around $10. We are so blessed in our area to have purveyors of quality meats and sandwiches like P&S. Pure bliss is what I felt when I bit into this wonderful sandwich! The seeded roll, the heat of the spices, the freshness of the meat and the bite of the Sharp Provo were a balance made in heaven. The amount of meat, cheese and toppings were just right. There are pretenders and then there are solid veterans of sandwiches. These guys are 100% legit. Easily one of my fav's. Thanks guys!

Yelp
Best hoagies in the city. Period. First time having the chicken salad. Boom. Always my go to for great sandwiches.

Yelp
Solid hoagie spot! This is my local go to prior to a hike, concert or just weekend fix when I don't feel like making something myself. I have had a number of different hoagies here and they were all winners. The salads in the deli case are also well done. Lastly, they have efficiency down to a science which is a welcome surprise during the pandemic - they just churn it out on a regular.

Jennifer V.

Yelp
P&S has been in our neighborhood forever. If you want the fresh lunch meat and great sandwiches they have them. No dinner go there. Everything is ready in a pinch.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Italian hoagies for $7.99. Lot of made to order sandwiches, all good quality. Also several Italian desserts in the freezer like pistachio custards. I had the Luca (prosciutto, mozz, tomatoes, and balsamic). Pretty tasty! Personally, however, I'd rather have a Suprimo from Primo's. That said, worth a stop for lunch.

Yelp
Best hoagie in south Philly. They have been skimping on the Mayo so it's best to ask for some on the side. They are delicious and consistent.

George H.

Yelp
Friendly staff great food reasonable prices. I order from here quite frequently and have never been disappointed.

Yelp
Extremely happy with the gravy and ravioli I ate from P&S this past weekend. I've never experienced pasta so fresh, but from now on, I'll consider going classic and fresh when I'm making dinner. The flavors in the sauce were well balanced and didn't really need any additions, and the ravioli were big, cheesy, and one smaller container left two people pretty full when paired with some bread.

Yelp
The best meatballs and Alfredo sauce delivered across the country!!! Thank you so much!!! Amazing sandwiches in the store too! I miss the chicken cutlets!!! ROLLS!!

Yelp
I'm sure I'll be changing this to 5 stars after next visit. Ordered on a Sunday so nothing hot available but that's not a problem with the choices on menu. Love the references with the sandwich names. Tough to decide in a hurry so I got the Sonny [cold roast pork] loaded. No regrets. Mrs went with Italian which is boring with so many other terrific options for fresh authentic Italian meats but she ate more of hers than I did with mine. Junior, who just moved walking distance from south Philly shop, went with the "Michael" and raved about it. Bread: perfect chewy seeded roll. Roasted peppers and sharp provolone make it Philly. This will be my game day spot when I get there for a home game. Staff very friendly at this Oregon Ave location.

Yelp
Been getting food here for years. Hoagies are great. I especially love the fresh mozzarella balls, roasted peppers, and their pepper shooters! Everything always in stock. Love it here!
google avatar

Lori O.

Yelp
Probably the best hoagie joint around. We get hoagies here most weekends and they are open Sundays! The hoagies never disappoint. They are packed full of meat and flavor.

Yelp
I just finished one of the best stacked ham & cheese hoagies on the most perfect roll, coated in seriously toasted sesame seeds! Yep, the sesame seeds were toasted to a delightful nutty goodness. I could have had a variety of different meats & cheeses to fill my hoagie and lettuce, sliced red tomato, onion & pickles to compliment them. P&S is famous for their hmemade pasta, raviolis, with cheese, spinach, meat, lobster or mushrooms. Tortellinis, fettuchini, potato gnocchi, manicotti, stuffed shells, meatballs and sauces are all available to order in store or on line.. P&S was founded by the DiGiacomo brothers, Primo and Secondo, who emigrated from Abruzzi, Italy in 1960. They use the freshest local ingredients and the finest imported cheeses available and they never add any artificial colors or preservatives. Starting with a small store in South Philadelphia. they continued to grow, move and expand into the delightful deli & homemade pasta stores. They have won Best of Philadelphia and consecutive Readers Choice Awards. Today they have one store in Delaware, one in New Jersey, one in Havertown and three in Philadelphia. I bought several pastas, ready to be cooked at home. Have you heard about the amazing new pasta diet? It's easy! You learn to walk pasta da refrigerator without stopping, pasta da cookie jar, and pasta da pantry... ;+}

Yelp
Love these guys! The name-sake ravioli is delicious and affordable - usually frozen and many varietys. Great tortellini, too - meat or cheese (I love the meat). Great hoagies and sandwiches. SHARP Provolone. The real deal - straight from sou-philly. Oh - and they support the Mummers - so go to P&S!

Yelp
This is probably the best hoagie I've ever had. Quality meats, quality rolls friendly fast service. This will be my go to hoagie shop for now on. They take credit/debit cards as well which is helpful for those of us that never seem to have cash on hand when we're hungry.

Anthony Y.

Yelp
First time I ever had a processed chicken cutlet from an Italian deli. Yuck. On a good note, the staff is extremely nice!

Frank M.

Yelp
Very disappointed in the cheese ravioli. Very liquid cheese inside and I cooked them perfectly trying Talluto's
google avatar

Mackie E.

Yelp
I have been a fan of the chicken cutlet sandwiches here since forever. So much so, that I ordered a tray for my birthday and they didn't disappoint. It was amazing and everyone raves about it. I don't eat cold cuts but I've heard the cold cuts are just as good. Definitely worth visiting!

Yelp
Excellent Sandwiches and some yummy soups too. Awesome staff! Greta service! Delicious lunch place!!

Yelp
My boss has been bringing in their hoagies and tubs with margarita pepperoni and cheeses such as sharp provolone or string cheese forever, absolutely fantastic food. I finally made it there for myself and went with an Old Fashioned instead of my usual Italian (I know, I'm boring, shut up :P ) and it was great, I went with the sharp provolone as I didn't want the cheese to be overpowered. I couldn't finish all that sharp provolone and prosciutto though and ended up giving the second half to a VERY happy coworker. The staff was VERY helpful and more than willing to explain to me whatever I asked about was. I spent a bit more than I intended to that day but it was well worth it. A solid selection and friendly staff means I will be eating from here for a long time.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Delicious fresh hoagies on fantastic rolls. The cutlet sandwiches are also excellent. This is a South Philly staple and a must try.
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite Italian hoagie in Philly. Love the spicy Italian. Great bread, great meat and great cheese. Love the neighborhood vibe too.

Brendan H.

Yelp
I walked into this rav shop with low expectations. The greasy looking teenager behind the register smirked at me and gave off a really strange vibe. However, I ordered a Nicholas and a package of Lobster Ravs and the greasy kid suddenly turned beautiful. It was almost like that scene in Spongebob where they used jellyfish jelly on the Krabby Pattys. Quality hoagies, quality raviolis, and quality cashier.
google avatar

Tom D.

Yelp
Best hoagie in South Philadelphia. A number of specialty sandwiches as well. All are super fresh, and chicken cutlets are also great for nights when you don't have time to cook a full meal!
google avatar

Tug K.

Yelp
You'd never know how great their sandwiches were unless you stopped in! Not just a normal, bland selection of ingredients. Fantastic!

Yelp
Hey today I was just getting done from the Hosp and was really hungry . I though who makes a good hoggies now that one of my fav. Shops closed I though every time Igbo to P&S to get my ravs on the holidays I always see the hoggies being made so I thought let's try them out. Well as always courteous and friendly I ordered my hoggie got it and walked out. I went to eat it and first though ok Sarcones bread gotta be good until I bit in and discover spongy bread. Sarcones is anything but spongy fresh. I hope they did something out of the ordinary cause it tasted like freezer bread taken out of the freezer after a freezer stay and used . Guys I know something's wrong here and I leave it to you to make it right . What happened? Why the spongy bread definetly not fresh . Everybody knows atleast here in South Philly it's the bread that makes the sandwich / hoggie. Totally not satisfied I'll hold my rating for your response. By the way I'm not in it for a hoggie just can't let something like this go especially here in my home town . Please help your own cause

Yelp
I stopped in for a quick bite for lunch. Got a small hoagie. I was disappointed that it was just fair. There was a piece of sliced tomato and tons of onions. There's barely any tuna in my order. Quite disappointing.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
The real deal. Just wide enough to fit two rows of people (one ordering, one waiting), this tiny South Philly deli and Italian specialty shop has some excellent hoagies. Between three of us, we tried the spicy italian tuna, breaded eggplant w roasted red peppers and sharp provolone, and chicken cutlet with mozzarella and broccoli rabe. Loved them all and will be back for more lunch takeout soon. The "regular" size hoagies were enough for my lunch & dinner.
google avatar

John V.

Yelp
Great Place for Hoagies, homemade Pasta, and I cannot forget they have really good roast Pork, Shooter Peppers, the list can go on give it a try .Very clean and friendly.

Yelp
In a small quest of mine to find great hoagies in my South Philly neighborhood I was told to give P&S a try. The menu is similar to what you would find at Primos, from traditional italian to sharp italian and many specialty hoagies, I had the sharp and was very pleased with the results. Can't go wrong with the seeded roll, could be sarcone's, could be liscio's, either way it was awesome. P&S also doesn't skimp on the meats either, this was a hearty hoagie. It's also nice that they are open until 7pm not like many of the other hoagies places in the neighborhood! Can't wait to go back.

Jim D.

Yelp
I have been living in Philly for over 40 years and have tried just about every Italian Deli and this bar none is Numero Uno!!

Chad T.

Yelp
The freshest hoagie I have ever had. Fresh cut meats, never presliced. The italian hoagie is authentic with real Italian meats and cheeses. I will never eat a Wawa hoagie again if I am even close to this place. They do not even compare. Loads of other Italian specialties when you walk in the door. Prices Are lower than other local establishments.
