"Panera's remaining pay-what-you-can location in Boston will close on February 15 after being open for six years. The pay-what-you-can model was introduced to spread awareness about hunger and offered a free meal to people who couldn’t otherwise afford to dine out. Despite commitment to the mission, continued operation is no longer viable." - Terrence Doyle

Great food pay what you can afford. If you can pay more it helps to pay for those who cannot afford to pay for their own.

Wow, I can't believe I'm the first to get to rave about this place. The idea is great, the food is worth going alone, but I have to say this was a great experience all around. All of the staff from our greeter to the manager, bus/server to the person taking our order were excellent and attentive. Very personable and attentive. Everywhere you looked, was clean. Portions were generous, and the food was great. I would definitely recommend, and return. Some of the best customer service I've experienced, during a very busy lunch rush. Thanks to all of you.

Love Panera! Great place to grab tasty lunch! Best things there are chicken noodle soup, French onion soup and Greek style salad with quinoa...so so yummy! Stop by Panera for lunch, you won't regret it! They also have amazing bread! Try their baguette, it's great!

Good food and usually good service. Panera has a program for frequent customers. For some reason I was dropped with no notice. It takes a while to get a new customer but only seconds to lose one. I will be frequently going to other nearby sandwich shops. Not sure why they would bother with a program and then discontinue it without notice.

Panera Cares has a great mission. You are practically offered the full range of choices you would otherwise get at a regular Panera. I have noticed nothing much different regarding the experience other than this location does not have self service kiosks, which is a bit understandable for what this restaurant is doing. The posted prices are suggested donations. Donate what the suggested donation is and technically some of the money goes to feeding someone who can't afford to pay for their meal, or only can afford to pay a greatly reduced price.

Carries all of the usual Panera faire but with the added bonus of a friendly, accepting atmosphere. This location has a diverse work force. One time a cashier was super hard to understand but other than that I've had good experiences!

If you haven't heard about this you should go. Panera Cares works differently than regular Paneras. You can basically volunteer an hour of your time & they will give you a voucher for food. This gives people the opportunity to a meal which is great. You can offer to put in more money then what is owed for what you buy. They do have people who work there full time & teach others how to do things properly. If you have nothing they will give a loaf of bread for like next to nothing if you really need. Don't judge, people there are trying to get themselves a better way of life & this is a great opportunity to start. They have a little patio outside as well which is nice.
