Pang's Kitchen

Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant hidden in Happy Valley. We went there for a casual dinner and it was really a joy. Everything we tried was just great, I particularly enjoyed their giant razor clams and the fish stew. Will revisit this place for sure:)

This place definitely worths our 20min walk. Successfully impressed all of us as the dishes all taste soooo good with such a fair price. I rarely have Shun Tuk cuisine so some dishes are quite interesting to me like the use strawberry for sweet sour pork and chicken wing wrap with HK style sausage and sticky rice. Staff are very welcoming and they know the food well. So just ask them for recommendation if you don’t know what to order.

5 stars for food, service & atmosphere! If you are looking for a nice cantonese resto to enjoy with your friends this is a place to go. I like how i can make a reservation in advance so i don’t waste a minute of my time waiting in a queue:) definitely going back!

We were told this restaurant was a local institution for good food, so we decided to give it a try when we were in the area. We came across probably the rudest server we met in Hong Kong. She was literally yelling at us for no reason until I yelled back at her. She then calmed down afterwards. We ordered four dishes, all pretty average at best, quality and presentation no different from cha-chan-ting, with the bill coming to about $850 ! We were there on a Sunday lunchtime, and all other diners appear to be tourists coming for the reputation, not a single Cantonese speaking local. Avoid !!!

If I can only eat at one place in Hong Kong, this will be it. A hole-in-wall setup, but offers the freshest and most authentic Cantonese cuisine. After all it has been a Michelin 1-star place for ages, the standard is definitely there. Do not expect fine dining atmosphere and service, but it's homely and warm. The owner is very generous and welcoming. When I was still working in Hong Kong, it became almost a must to dine there at least once a week with friends. Best steamed fish I have had, lotus pancake, sweet sour pork, lobster noodle, crispy fried chicken with garlic, etc.. I miss so many of their dishes. Wine list is of good value, but you are also welcome to bring your own bottles. If you go there frequent enough, I am sure the boss can make a few off the menu dishes for you ;)

Everything we ordered is tasty, but the highlight for me would be stuffed chicken wings and the clam. Another unique dish we had is fried milk with scallop, a savory dish that I’ve never encountered in other restaurant. Owner is also really nice and friendly. Best to come in group so you can have variety of dishes to try.

Great spot for dinner before visiting Happy Valley. The entrance to the race track is a 5 minute walk away. Food was very good. The standout dish was the fried chicken. Very flavorful meat and crispy skin. Sweet and sour pork was also good. Sauce was on the slightly more acidic side. Service was excellent. We were attended to by the son of the owner I think because he could speak English. The only negative is that it was a bit expensive. Overall, I would go back though.

Found a Michelin ⭐️ Cantonese cuisine in Happy Valley. Food is ok but expensive and like private dining with small seating area. Ordered fish, sweet sour pork, minced meat salted fish and mapo tofu. They charge corkage HKD100/bottle for wine. Difficult to find and not very accessible from main shopping area. Near horse racing place and area will be crowded on horse racing days. Better to pre book.

The food is average. The service staff is well mannered and can communicate in English. The environment is old styled nostalgic but small. Four of us paid HK$ 1200 without alcohol. Not value for money and over-rated Michelin listed.

Live around the area and my family has been a regular here for years. Unlike the plethora of Michelin-starred fancy Chinese restaurants that have been popping up, you can rely on Pang's Kitchen for no-fuss delicious authentic Cantonese cuisine. I'm someone who likes to order the same dishes if I like them, and my regular dishes are 1) 蒜蓉粉絲蒸蟶子 (steamed clams with vermicelli and garlic), 2) 鹹魚蒸肉餅 (salty fish on steamed minced pork), 3) 三色蛋時菜 (three types of eggs with veggies). Only a few tables so would recommend a booking beforehand!

Pang's kitchen has been recognized by the Michelin guide with one star for over five years. The food here isn't fancy but is really quite good. Price is pretty reasonable considering the reputation of the restaurant. They have lunch specials during the work week for 98 hkd which is a good deal for the quality of the food. Like a lot of places in Hong Kong don't expect great service but the food comes out quick and is tasty. Occasionally find Peng's after the Jockey place , it is nice clean and nice people , busy though the dishes taste not amazing amaze

The food here is delicious, but it is also really expensive. Overall it's not worth it. My friend and I ended up spending $40 USD each here, and we got pretty basic dishes: sweet and sour chicken, fried noodles, and mixed vegetables. The service is friendly, but don't expect particularly good English from the waiters.

It was a company dinner. Ordered sweet and sour pork, fish with corn sauce, vegetables. Everyone gets a Cantonese style soup The dishes are sort of small but made to perfection!! It has its reason to be expensive!

Super solid Michelin rated restaurant. The English speaking lady, who seems to be the owner, was very hospitable and accommodating which runs counter to the stereotype of Cantonese brusqua service. The food was legit, we had the sweet and sour chicken with strawberries, razor clams with garlic, seafood congee, braised salted chicken and the Yang Zhou fried rice. Everything was excellent, however, personally I was impressed with the Yang Zhou fried rice. I've grown up loving fried rice and it's something hard to fuck up. It's pretty good at almost any restaurant so it was suprising to me how well this dish was prepared. If you're in Happy Valley for the horse races or just happen to be outside of Central or Kowloon, Pang's Kitchen is definitely worth the trip and will not burn a hole in your pocketbook.

You know when you were a kid, and everything you said automatically gained legitimacy once you add the phrase "cuz mom said so" to the end? "The cookies are for after dinner only, cuz mom said so!" "You have to shower twice a day, mom said so" Well, as a grownup, this hardly applies anymore, and most of us probably don't even quote her anymore. But for myself, if my mom says a Chinese restaurant is good, it is good. And she had nothing but good words for Pang's. We came here for a family dinner, drawn by the Michelin fame. The place itself is quite tattered and dingy (vintage and cosy, if you will), the lights are a bit dim so you'll notice that all the food pictures have strange lighting. We ordered like 8 dishes so I won't comment one by one, but everything we ordered was delicious, not over seasoned, well balanced and generously portioned. It was a cross between home-style cooking and Cantonese restaurant food. While I was expecting something a bit more refined or innovative from here, I was still quite satisfied with the food, though my mom probably enjoyed it most. The food isn't expensive either, it was less than HKD 300 per person for 8 dishes (5 ppl). And the staff were actually pretty friendly and chatted us up, while there were some tables who were obviously regulars, it was all very neighborhoodly. I would definitely came back again if I'm in Happy Valley again.

Wonderful food, terrific service. Well worth its Michelin star. (Admittedly that opinion is only based on one dish on one visit). Had the braised sweet and sour chicken and vegies. Chicken was very light and crispy outside, tender inside, so unlike the heavy glop we usually get in the US. Half-order is more than enough for one person. Unlike the other reviewer who complained about lack of priority service, service was very attentive in my case. And in any case, can you blame them if they cater more to locals? They know they'll never see you again, but the others may be (or may become) regulars. Capitalism, love it or hate it...

During a business trip to HK one of my colleagues who lives here took us to Pang's for dinner. Pang's has won a Michelin Star for the last few years. It is a small little restaurant (probably ten tables) but does some awesome Cantonese food. All very basic service but awesome none the less! Definitely recommend and would definitely go back!

My favorite dinner on my visit to HK. This place is incredible. It's earned a Michelin Star, but it is still very affordable. We had the lotus flower and mushroom dish which was incredible. Everything we ordered was on point and our server was the sweetest. We didn't need a reservation and this place is right down the street from the horse track so you can grab dinner on a Wednesday before watching the races. A must do while in HK!

Delicious Cantonese food at moderate prices! My wife and I were looking for a good Chinese restaurant near the Heavenly Valley race track. Wednesday is race night in March, so we wanted to have a nice meal and then walk two blocks to the races. We weren't disappointed. We are seasoned world travelers and enjoy wonderful Cantonese food often. Pang's Kitchen is a popular spot with modest décor and an adequate range of menu choices. We took the advice of other reviewers and had the sweet & sour pork with strawberry sauce, the salted chicken (brined & then steamed), the mushroom soup, and a few other small dishes. Everything was tasty, authentic and well prepared. The husband and wife owners speak some English and are willing to help customers order -- and will also make recommendations if asked. The moderately priced menu includes English translations as well. We received prompt, friendly and helpful service and enjoyed quite a yummy evening meal. The restaurant is rather casual, but the food is a cut above and it is priced right. Their Michelin star is proudly displayed and one could debate whether it is deserved, but the food really is quite good. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We would go again and can happily recommend Pang's Kitchen to other travelers looking for quality Cantonese food.

I need to start out by saying this place deserves way more stars! AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE! Don't let the atmosphere fool you. This place is legit. ORDER THE RAZOR CLAMS! Best thing I've eaten in Hong Kong by far. Sad to head home to the states knowing every Cantonese food place will never compare to this. Thanks Pang's!

After some massive horse racing night, we went there for some light congee retreat. I love this dynasty vibe spot that feels like only your boss would go there. Haha. They make food slow as well as they do it right. The essential reason is the private hospital nearby that high demand for quality porridge came up. Menu is very health conscious and I define it as patient friendly. I am more than happy with my submarine congee. Not over throwing me prawn to drown me but appropriate touch of its rich meat. The other classics like sweet and sour chicken is club standard.

Loved this place! We had just survived the Wednesday night horse races down the street (not to be missed) and stumbled into this place sans Yelp. The food was good but the service really kicked it up a notch - something that was distinctly lacking in the rest of Hong Kong. The man who mush be the son of the owner was delightful! Ordered (well) for us, introduced us to Open Rice (HK version of Yelp), gave us a list of must-dos on our trip, and helped us get a taxi back to Kowloon at the end of our meal. A great first dinner.
