Inside the Feud Between Papa John and Papa John’s | Eater

"I know Papa John’s was founded in 1984 inside a broom closet in Jeffersonville, Indiana, when “Papa” John Schnatter started making pizzas for patrons at his father’s bar; it grew into a publicly traded S&P 400 company with around 4,700 locations worldwide, was the third-largest pizza delivery company in the U.S. as of 2016, and is credited with inventing pizza dipping sauces. In recent years the chain has been beset by controversy and declining sales: Schnatter blamed protesting NFL players for poor earnings, stepped down as CEO and later as chairman after making snide statements and a leaked recording of him using the N-word, and has been accused in a Forbes investigation of presiding over a “bro” culture and engaging in sexual misconduct that resulted in multiple confidential settlements — allegations he disputes. The company has said it was “bleeding money,” its stock has fallen steadily since reaching a high of $86 per share at the end of 2016, and it lost the NFL sponsorship to Pizza Hut. Under CEO Steve Ritchie (who took over in January), the chain is trying to repair its image by prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion and requiring employee diversity training, while the board seeks to distance the brand from its namesake; Schnatter, who still owns roughly 29–30% of the company, has pushed back by launching SavePapaJohns.com, and the board has even adopted a “poison pill” to try to block him from increasing his stake." - Eater Staff

June 23, 2025 Ordered at 9:58pm and saw the pizza was ready in less than 10min, which now looking back should’ve been concerning. I’m so disappointed, my older brother worked at papa johns in our late teens so I have had SO much pizza from other papa john’s. This is my first time at this location and it was by far the WORST pizza I’ve ever had from a papa john’s! The pizza was VERY under cooked and there was SOO much cheese that it was inedible and I triple checked the topping setting before placing the order online, especially after the add-on for extra cheese popped up I made sure it didn’t select it. I’ve never gotten a terrible pizza from this company before and have ordered from different locations in multiple states so I’m frustrated that I didn’t read the reviews first but I really wouldn’t have expected this before tonight. I know it’s a franchise but you’d think the company would care since this is supposedly their “first store”.

Ordered several pizzas in the afternoon for a 6 o’clock delivery. Didn’t arrive so called the store and was told they were running a bit behind but our order would be there shortly. Called again at 7 PM and was told pizzas were cooking and they would be there shortly. Called at 7:30 and was given another excuse. Cancelled the order at that point much to the dismay of the lady answering the phone who responded with, “it’s almost done. Are you sure?” Avoid this store! I understand it’s cheap pizza but that is meaningless if the pizza doesn’t actually get delivered. The store is poorly run and not honest with customers. Avoid avoid avoid.

The pizza is average at best. Consistently average across every location, I'll give them that. We occasionally get this at work to feed everyone. Even the "specialty" pizzas are boring and have an overall sameness about them. The crust is well below average, with a heaping helping of boring. There are so many other options. Even Little Squeezers is on par with Papa John's pizza. The brownies are probably the best thing about the entire experience. Basically, this is the Subway of pizza chains. The entire menu is bland and boring.

Why does this location offer Drive Up Pickup with the "I'm Here" button if they are going to ignore it for more than 10 minutes? Our order showed "ready" on their tracker at 8:06 pm. They didn't bring it out to us until after 8:15 pm. There were only 2 customers inside waiting on their food. I don't get it, and the workers are no help... no answers, and really act like they don't care.

Ordered delivery, they directed it to DoorDash, and it sat there for a minute I called the manager, answered the phone, trying to be funny sounding country. Then he proceeded to talk normal I asked if my pizza was gonna be delivered he said hold on I’ll check. Never came back to the phone, I called back and he never answered. This will be the last time I order from them

Really good fast pizza, always being super nice. I've never had a problem here. I love papa John's. We had one hick up were we ordered it online and when my husband when to pick it up they said they were sorry that they messed up (no biggie it didn't take long) and when my husband asked what was wrong with the pizza. They said they cut it wrong lol (online we asked for squares) they did the usually triangle cut. We didnt really care lol so we took both pizzas and happy cause it's great pizza

I ordered from the Jeff store tonight… I was charged an arm and a leg for 2 medium pizzas. My dough wasn’t even cooked. The crust was but the bottom of the pizza dough wasn’t, completely raw. My toppings weren’t cooked, but the cheese was melted. Everything slid off the pizza as soon as you picked up a slice. I could only eat the outer crust. Very upset with this store tonight

Food is what you expect but oh my god they consistently take 50+ minutes to make a pizza even after the app says it is ready.
