If I could leave zero starts I would. I ordered the chicken bowl and the low carb bowl The teriyaki sauce was extremely salty and even after I called within the 20 minutes of picking up to have them remake my order the food was still very salty. It didn’t used to be salty I feel like they are diluting the teriyaki and just adding salt to make up for it. We didn’t find the teriyaki flavor at all even after the second prep. I’m very disappointed

I always get my family feast deal once all my punches are on the card. It’s $20 & then with the discount it’s $15. She kept saying she’s unable to do that. I been doing it with her & the owner for the past few years. I got frustrated & left. I asked her to explain why it wouldn’t work anymore & she just shrugged. If they don’t care for the customers then why are they even running a business..?

Google
This food was $26 the atmosphere is dirty the carpets are stained the food is less than cafeteria style obviously it is definitely for the lunch crowd workers who work around there it's not a place you go delicious I can't wait to go back we will never go back we ordered the chicken beef combination the beef was okay the chicken seemed like it came out of a can the salad was all the white Parts the salad dressing with some sort of a vinegarette that was truly watered down the best part of our meal let's just say it was Pepsi

Google
Yummy food, friendly service, and decent prices. I don’t particularly enjoy the dining area, but the delicious salad dressing and fresh sushi makes up for it! One of my favorite places to eat in Yuma. 4 ⭐️s only because the dining room isn’t comfortable to eat in, but food is still amazing.

Google
The amazing cashier was so friendly and was singing while at work. Loved the attitude

Google
Don't use your debit card here they have charged my card more than once for the same transaction. And doesn't want to make it right.

Google
I just moved here and wanted to try local restaurants and sent my husband here and that was my worst decision ever. I ordered the shrimp rice bowl and it’s exactly what’s it’s called shrimp and rice and that’s fine but not only does it smell funky but the shrimp has a very funky after taste that I’ve never tasted when eating shrimp. The only edible thing is the rice and I could’ve made it better. Everyone has different tastes and preferences but this just was not it.

Google
Been coming here for years but my last visit was horrible. Rice bowl with steak and veggies had no flavor, rice was over cooked. Side salad dressing was watered down and had no flavor. The dining area needs work. Service was great. This place has gone down. Use to be my favorite spot.

Leslie D.

Yelp
I came here looking for some good teriyaki chicken and I ended up getting two bowls, a kids bowl, and a cali roll . Let me just say it was DISGUSTING. The chicken looked GRAY. I was not gonna eat that chicken. So I was like maybe the rice is good and nope. The rice was stale and hard. The sushi tasted cheap. It was the worst food I've ever tried. The service was terrible. The guy looked like he hated his job and he just wanted to leave. I honestly don't know how this place is still open

Yelp
Used to be yumas go to spot For a taste of Asian food. Not anymore nothing has been changed to stay within modern taste buds. This has rendered it dull and typical. Service is ok at best and the Ambiance is non existent.

Yelp
I'm lucky to have traveled through Yuma with a former-local, and she introduced me to Papa-San. I'm so glad she did! The salad was simple, but the ginger dressing really is outta this world! The bowl has a bottom layer of the most PERFECT white rice (not dry, not mushy- good taste), followed by broccoli, string beans, celery, and a heap of chicken cutlets all topped with teriyaki sauce! She asked fir extra cilantro and side of sesame seeds, which were all great. She did warn me that they don't have the most jovial workers, but they have gotten awards for best employer, and many of the employees have been there for several years. I really enjoyed this meal! Especially when driving to San Diego, this was a nice stop where the ginger-dressed salad and rice helps my stomach stay settled, while energizing with the heartwarming teriyaki sauce, then nourishing me with proteins and vegetables. Great spot! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Depends what you order. Of course its like a fast food joint. Very similar to a flame broiler.

Yelp
Not sure why the reviews are the way they are. I've been eating here a couple times a month for over a year and have never had bad food. This place is a staple with the locals. Food is always fresh and fast. I prefer the spicy chicken teriyaki combo. The chicken and rice is always good. The salad has a ginger dressing that is light and flavorful. You get a choice between an egg role or an California roll (2 pieces). The California roll is large pieces and tightly rolled. If you want a sushi burrito hey have one, but it's not on the menu. It takes a little while to be made but is worth it. If you get the burrito get it with crab.

Richard B.

Yelp
Did they really just boil water and add a packet of flavoring for Miso soup? What? This is the most low budget, cheap on all levels with no service and cut-rate food and cost cutting on every level. Could I have a fork at least. Oh, they are behind counter so you have to ask for one. Brutal. Everything is mostly rice anyway so if you don't mind paying $13.95 for a bowl of white rice with a sprinkling of chicken, this is the place for you. I felt bad never going in during pandemic but now I know it was for the best.

Yelp
We went here to eat, the website says they close at 8pm. When we went in some of the items were not available as the woman behind the counter said they were planning on closing early. Our food didn't take too long, we had to pick it up from the front counter. When it arrived at our table it was cold. We ordered 3 ice teas and 1 Pepsi, we got all ice tea. As we were eating the woman that was behind the counter asked us if we were finished because they were closed and they wanted to leave. Not a very good way of doing business, we left our food on the table and walked out. Guess we won't go back there. I wish I knew who the owner was, I would contact them.

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant for many years, and my parents went before I was born. Unfortunately their customer service didn't just decline recently, it took a sharp nosedive to the bottom of the barrel. Recently I've ordered dishes for myself and a few other members of my family, and had to notify them of missing items when I picked it up. Most recently, the woman at the counter said we were charged correctly for a single item we ordered, when I double checked and made sure we ordered two. Today, it's been the second instance of it in two weeks. I hate to say I will not be returning to what once a great business. Side note: Young guy at the counter, speaking in a few voice and standing like the strong man at the Circus isn't going to earn you respect or tips.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
I'm giving 2 stars because I think the service was good meaning they were polite and even fixed an error with an over charge, however I was expecting a tasty flavor profile and was completely let down. I had the teriyaki beef bowl. All it contained was rice Thin slices of meat with the blandest teriyaki sauce I've ever tried. I also ordered the miso soup and that was just as bad! no flavor at all!no salt, no miso paste, nothing. I feel bad reviewing but I also feel the reviews on this place is way better then what the food actually is. Especially if you come from the east coast where Asian food is amazing this is not the place. They had great parking, the place looked clean?and the soda was good.

Yelp
If you take soggy rice, over-boiled chicken and slop them together with some teriyaki sauce in a styrofoam bowl, you have a Papa-san rice bowl. You can enjoy this rice bowl at a table that may or not been wiped down. There seem to be plenty of employees, but none of them were on clean up. I recommend Panda Express if you want a rice bowl.

Sue H.

Yelp
I've been going to Papa San for nearly 30 years. I enjoy the Papa's turkey salad and the teriyaki bowls. The regular teriyaki is not as good as the spicy teriyaki. Unfortunately I can't have anything spicy so it would be nice if the regular teriyaki was more flavorful. Otherwise this place is great if you need to pick up a healthier quick lunch or dinner. Their ginger dressing is one of my favorites.
google avatar

Cherish M.

Yelp
Took my girlfriend here for her first time & it was a success. We both agreed on becoming regulars here

Maureen S.

Yelp
This place was awful. I don't even know where to begin. We saw that it had some questionable reviews but thought we'd give them a chance. We ended up throwing out our meals. My husband ordered the Thai noodle dish which didn't taste anything like Thai food. We eat Thai food often and we also make it ourselves and this particular dish had no taste whatsoever. I ordered the senior combo which was absolutely tasteless; gummy rice and dry chicken. Mine came with a salad that I could not even begin to tell you what the dressing was, again it had no taste. The place really needs a good cleaning the carpet was filthy. The only positive is that the staff was very nice. Recommend a complete redo of the menu and a good cleaning. Will not go back, do not recommend.

Yelp
Love this place, the food amazing! But customer service goes a long in this industry and unfortunately Maria always has a sour look on her face. We all hate our jobs Maria, get over it.
google avatar

Anne D.

Yelp
Local and Wonderful!! Simple satisfying rice bowls and salads!! LOVE the tropical iced tea!! Occasionally they mess up on delivery orders, but always make it right!! I've gone here since childhood, new owners kept flavors locals love!! Always kind and accommodating, I papa-San!!

Yelp
I come here once every couple/few months to get food. Their food is tasty and semi-reasonable in price. When I went to get to-go food today, I ordered their hot wings, and the cashier had to ask the chef if they had any left. Okay, maybe they had a rush on hot wings... After ordering, I was waiting for my food and overheard the next lady in line ordering some type of avocado item (maybe the sushi roll?). The cashier AGAIN had to ask the chef if they had any left. Besides being short on their menu items, their employees (cashiers AND management) act like they would rather not be there working and having to wait on customers. This has happened almost every time I've gone to get food, and has happened for the many years I've been a customer. Not good.

Molly R.

Yelp
Not only did I order spicy teriyaki rice bowl & they gave me regular teriyaki, but there's a bone in it.
google avatar

George C.

Yelp
I thought the food was very good. It's fast food style, order at the counter, they called your number. The food was hot, fresh, and tables were clean. Only downside I don't like Styrofoam and everything is served in Styrofoam. I'll be back though!
google avatar

Reina P.

Yelp
This place is delicious. Highly recommend it. Such a good healthy alternative to all the fast food in Yuma. Everything is homemade. The chicken is always cooked great and the sauce is really nice.

ken w.

Yelp
You want it fast? Papa-San does that. Spicey chicken was warm but the rice was not. Don't bother with the 99cent vegetable addition, just a spoonful of frozen mixed veggies. Pot stickers were good.

Mark E.

Yelp
Finally, beef at an Asian restaurant that was tender and tasted like actual roast beef! I typically avoid beef at Asian restaurants because it is either springy and unchewable or mushy but theirs was perfect. Ordered the #3 combination: Beef and chicken on brown rice (white rice also available), half a California roll (they have little paper cups with ginger and wasabi behind the counter on request) a salad and drink. Chicken and rice were both cooked perfectly. All very tasty. You order and pick up at the counter then sit in the dining room which is well lit and clean. I'll definitely be back.

Laura Soto M.

Yelp
I went to papa san today during lunch on 4th ave yuma, az. The service was horrible and the food was worse! I got the # 3 beef and chicken rice bowl w a salad, the food was prepped messy with the sauce all over my plate, I ordered it spicy teriyaki and it was not prepared that way, the little side salad was stale and the lettuce was brown. I am not a happy customer and will not be returning to this place again, when you go, you're taking a big chance on actually getting what you ordered. My order was to go, check yours before you walk out.
google avatar

Pamela H.

Yelp
Papa-San, gomenasai, but your combo plate was not that great. Not fast food, but poor quality as well. Maybe I ate the wrong thing. Great customer service though, and decently priced.
google avatar

Bobby G.

Yelp
tried to give it a second chance... chicken looked like someone chewed it and poured it on my plate.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
I stopped by today to try them out after a 4 year hiatus. Glad to know it's just as crappy as it was four years ago. Pretty much ordered the same thing as before. All white chicken bowl with veggies and brown rice. The rice was the best part of the whole thing! The veggies were waaayyyy overcooked and the chicken was dry as Yuma is. Not to mention it had absolutely no flavor. I'm pretty sure they put a whole bunch of sauce on their teriyaki bowls to cover up for the fact that it sucks. With a drink the total was a little over 8 bucks for some horrendous food. Go to Panda Express... same price, more food and (gasp) it's actually half way decent! Also, I love how people justify that since it's Yuma it's ok. It is not! This place sucks, avoid it.
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
I have a new healthy favorite. The low carb chicken bowl with no sauce. Then you get the Thai fire sauce on the side. It's so simple and healthy.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Great healthy choice. Food is always great and you feel good afterwards.
google avatar

Noel T.

Yelp
Probably my #1 place to go for some chicken teriyaki rice bowls. I always take my friends here after a long day and we order the rice bowls and some egg rolls to share. not expensive at all and the workers are always friendly
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
My husband and I went there last week for the first time, we both got the beef and chicken papa bowl with veggies. It was excellent! I had the tia peanut sauce he had spicy teriyaki. Mine lasted for 3 meals. I give 5 stars.
google avatar

Hope B.

Yelp
No star for this restaurant... Total waste of 8 bucks. This place has bland tasteless food. I had the chicken breast teriyaki with rice noodles bowl and their self proclaimed famous salad with a soda. Even the soda is flavorless! Needs to pay attention to the co for the soda. Might as well be selling just plain top ramen with no seasoning. I wont be back and this food just sucks
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
A coworker told me the food here was good. Had to try it for myself. Ordered a bowl with white chicken meat and it was by far the worst thing I ever had.....EVER! I literally thought I was eating dog food I mean it smelled like it so so so much. I tried to push through it and eat it since I did pay for it but I ended up throwing it out. I couldn't force myself to eat it. I wish I had a better experience. Do try and avoid this place. Spend your money elsewhere

Yelp
This is the reason why I like local Yuma restaurants more than anywhere else. I've been to similar restaurants in greater Phoenix and Nevada, and there is really no comparison. Papa San is one of the few places out there that can get me to come back so frequently and have a consistent level of quality every time I order a meal. The "Papa sized" teriyaki chicken bowl is the bread and butter of this establishment and it's kept them in business for a number of years now. The sushi here should not be underestimated either! It's much less expensive than the competition and equally (if not more so) tasty if you ask me. Papa San has become an instant favorite to everyone I've brought with me and I'm pretty sure it's going to remain the most well enjoyed local gem for Japanese food.
google avatar

Tina Marie E.

Yelp
This places boasts of having authentic Teriyaki sauce, made on site by a real Japanese person. The sauce is different than any other I've ever had. It's on the salty side. I definitely can taste Oyster sauce! I've had the Teriyaki Chicken bowl with both Dark and White Breast Meat. Though dark meat absorbs flavor better and stays moister than chicken breast. This is not the case here. I'd have to say I prefer my Teriyaki Chicken bowl with White Breast meat only! The Yaki-Soba is not good. They have miso soup, made in a styrofoam cup, using hot water from a thermos and I'm guessing instant Miso soup dry mix. Bleh! So generic. I guess this is what you get for "Japanese" food in Yuma. lol So if you're looking for an ok bowl of Teriyaki Chicken in a quick fix, 'cause you're too lazy to google a recipe and cook yourself, Papa-San is the place to go.
google avatar

Lauren O.

Yelp
Rice was overlooked and chewy and the teriyaki sauce was just kind of weird. The low carb bowl was pretty awesome though. I was glad it was an option. The veggies were okay.. The spicy teriyaki sauce was also kind of blah. Think Panda Express quality maybe a step up.

Javier C.

Yelp
I was hungry for some Chinese food, only had $11. Was going to go to Jack in The box but I saw papasan on the way over there. thought I would give it a try, I should have kept going to Jack in The box. I ordered their sweet and sour chicken and when I got it it was a styrofoam bowl full of a bunch of white rice, which I had ordered brown rice and and their legal definition of chicken drowned in sweet and sour sauce. Chicken was overcooked and hard and completely flavorless. Lesson learned. Worst $8.44 I have ever spent.
google avatar

Gilberto M.

Yelp
I remember years ago the food was Amazing. Decided to visit this past weekend - food was flavorless. The rice seemed a little bit under cooked for my taste. For 10 bucks it was not worth it at all - Will not be going back at all.
google avatar

Triny G.

Yelp
The worse rice bowl ever. Workers were very rude and disrespectful. I don't understand why they are still in business. Will not recommend to eat there
google avatar

Anne Marie R.

Yelp
This is by far one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. It is very healthy and NOTHING comes from a bottle...all made on site from scratch! Aside from being nutritious, they give you a ton of food for the price. The sushi and salads are the bomb also. Trust me this is a Yuma institution. Five stars!
google avatar

Peter G.

Yelp
The salads are where it's at, here. The Papa's Turkey Salad is a BIG meal, and is delicious- a nice pairing of sweet and savoury. Everybody in this town seems to be addicted to the 9-cent salad. It's a bit more expensive if you don't order a rice bowl, but it's still cheap either way, and the ginger dressing is great. Overall, the place is clean, the staff is pleasant, and the restaurant is a nice alternative to the burgers or mexican food you normally find in town.
google avatar

Cooper Q.

Yelp
"TERIYAKI GONE BAD" should be the name of this place. I can honestly say that this is the WORST teriyaki I have ever had. Tried it twice thinking the first time was a fluke, nope just terrible terrible food. All the meat is basically dog food, rice is mush. The owner should try this food. Go to Charki's 100% better.
google avatar

Alia G.

Yelp
My go-to favorite of all time place, I love papa san and the staff is always so nice. the food is not only amazing but pretty cheap. 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Austin B.

Yelp
I love the food and the selection. They have a decent sushi and rice bowl selection. They also offer curry on Wednesdays. The price is right on target if you're used to paying for fast food. It's a bit more, but you get what you pay for. Parking is hard to find at lunch because the place is packed at lunch and dinner.
google avatar

Scot C.

Yelp
Just saw their ridiculous commercial. If you are showcasing your "best" for a television ad maybe ditch the styrofoam. Although it is appropriate.
google avatar

B S.

Yelp
HORRIBLE!!!! if you want chicken and rice in a bowl drenched in a salty sauce, then you should come here! because of places like this, people think japanese food taste like this, but it is def. far from it! you have to see who works there. if you want real japanese food, then make sure that a japanese person is cooking it! othere than that, i would say that this place is the americanized thought of japanese food.
google avatar

Kana S.

Yelp
Surprisingly enough, I enjoyed it....I was told not to have a high expectation of this place and that might have been the reason why I didn't hate this place. I had teriyaki beef bowl, it was pretty OK.
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
I come here at least once a week, and I love it! Would recommend to anyone who wants fast, CHEAP, healthy food on the go!chicken teriyaki bowl us my all time go to
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
I have never been to Papa-San and I ordered the teriyaki chicken with brown rice and vegetables to go. When I opened my plate, I was instantly disappointed. The chicken looked like canned cat food. The vegetables were soggy and it was obvious these were frozen vegetables. The cashier and cook were arguing back and forth because they seemed to not get the orders right. I will not be going back to this restaurant.
google avatar

Eric N.

Yelp
I wasn't a big fan of the noodle dish I had here. It was a little goopy and not very hot. I'll try the salad next time.
google avatar

jason r.

Yelp
I love papasans rice bowls. The spicy beef teriyaki bowl is my favorite! It's a healthy and inexpensive choice when you're looking for a quick delicious meal.
