I found this place on Google, I was staying up the street and looked for something local after the restaurant that I wanted to go to was closed. So I walked down the street and headed in. They have a happy hour menu at the bar, which is incredible during the week. It’s from maybe 2 PM to 10 PM or something like that, I saved a photograph. I had the fish tacos from the happy hour menu also, as well as the margaritas, and I actually have been back twice. I came to New York with work after evacuating from LA, so this is a great little find. I’m very happy it’s in my neighborhood.

After 24 hours of fasting and a train ride from Brooklyn. I was starving and decided to come here. I was trying to get something different. However I am glad I did and went with my gut instinct as per usual! I came in and met Raul and he was an amazing host, bartender and had a great great personality. Along with Camilo, great hospitality. The food was amazing, my mezcal hibiscus margaritas was on point. Highly recommend coming here. I haven’t been here since 2019. It hasn’t changed. 100% customer service RAUL.

Celebrated a friend’s birthday here, Papatzul staff went above & beyond to make her feel special. Highly recommend coming here, the hospitality, food, and drinks were amazing! 🥰

The Food, Service, and Atmosphere was perfect. I’m from the West Coast so I am definitely picky about my Mexican Food and this place came through. I got the Tacos, Sanrgia, and Churros 10/10/10

Great food and margaritas during dinner! On weekends, the restaurant transforms into a lively spot to dance and drink with friends. The atmosphere is fantastic, with good music and fun, friendly people. Highly recommend it for a night out!!!

You're in SoHo, it's way past lunch, too early for dinner. You're craving a margarita, maybe some chips and guac. Voila! You literally stumble into happy hour at Papatzul and order precisely that. Best part? You end up taking a quick little trip to Mexico City. The menu at Papatzul is all about honoring and submerging you into the world of Mexico City and it's cuisine. From huaraches to sopes, enchiladas to cazuela, the flavors and the vibe will take you straight to Mexico. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our happy hour mezcalitas and delicious bites served by our awesome bartender. You can even add flavors like passion fruit, tamarindo, etc. Everything is made fresh and our guacamole was served to a creamy perfection in a fancy little glass with freshly fried chips and we even got a quick little mezcal education which made it so fun. Saturday and Sunday they have bottomless brunch and music on certain nights. Can't wait to be back for the full dining experience!

Based on nightlife: -Charged $20 cover -Doormen were a little rude and intimidating -Once inside my friend and I were chased down to put our coats away in coat check - there is also a fee for this. - 20% gratuity charged automatically no matter just one drink . -The place is very small so a lot of being pushed into and tight dancing -Music mediocre -Crowd is probably around 21-30 age group.

Employs staff member who is violent and aggressive towards women I went here with my friend last night and one of the bouncers physically assaulted my friend. Literally out of nowhere, he was aggressive and shouting at us. We were confused and asked why he was upset, but he insisted that we knew what was wrong. He never explained what the problem was, and tried to kick us out of the establishment. I had to ask him more than five times for permission to get my coat and bag. He continued to yell at us until another more level-headed bouncer finally listened and let me get my things. While we were leaving, he shoved my friend, saying "get the f--- out" despite her literally complying with his demands to leave. Neither of us were trying to argue with him or fight him, but he still felt the need to escalate the situation with violence. That kind of physical aggression is never acceptable under any circumstances, point blank period. For one of your bouncers to put his hands on a woman who is much smaller than he is (she is 5'2"), is never okay. Look at the cameras. I cannot recommend this establishment to any woman who wants to have a good time and feel safe when they are out in New York. My friend pulled out her phone to document this man being violent towards her and he slapped the phone out of her hand. I've eaten here before several times and I've never experienced something so unreasonable from the staff of Papatzul or any establishment I've ever patronized. My friend is scared to go back. I included a photo of the bouncer who put his hands on my friend. Quite frankly, I'm disgusted at the whole experience.

Came to Papatzul with some friends who've been before! Definitely happy they brought me here as it's a place I'd definitely come to in the future. Cute interior aesthetic that I couldn't pinpoint what Mexican coastal vibe it was trying to emulate but cute nonetheless. Couple with the great music that ranged from oldies to chill remixes - added to the overall ambiance inside. The service was great - little too good in terms of how often they frequented us and almost took our slightly full guacamole as my friend was mid bite. The good would be a place for feedback but I'm biased and expect more from Mexican food - so know your expectations. Overall I would return but more so just for drinks on happy hour, which were great.

So we got here and cover is $20 which is okay. However, the bouncers basically told us we need to use the coat check. I asked if it was required and he said no so we didn't have to. Went to pay cover, which they said had to be cash or Venmo, and after we paid they forced us to coat check because the "owner doesn't like to see coats". Had to pay another $5 for this service that I didn't want. We got inside and people had their coats. Bar also charges 20% tip without the option to choose otherwise. Music was good for the most part but they did play some bad songs. Overall an interesting place that coerces you to pay for coat check and overcharges you on everything they can.

Portions were small. Food was bland. Prices were high. Wouldn't come back. Service was professional and polite though. Music and ambiance was good.

I found this place on TikTok as a great place to try out, I looked them up on instagram according to their post I was sold. For my birthday celebration my best friend planned a brunch here on Saturday nothing like their post I was baffled I was really looking forward to this day! As we started to order drinks they came out super sweet taste like pure juice zero alcohol we then decided on a pitcher of margarita flavor hibiscus mind you I've had this before never like this super tart felt like I was having a sour patch! When we ordered food mind you we were a table of 9 we had decided we wanted to try each appetizer, again really looking forward to the octopus tostadas our server understood we only wanted one guacamole, one for 9 people he never understood we said one of each appetizer on the menu smh I was disappointed After our food came out we were honestly all so hungry that the food taste amazing! But it could have been the hunger, honestly I don't think I would give this place another shot they can definitely do better or live up to their insta post! I give it two stars because of the decor! Other than that they definitely need to do better it all makes sense why the whole neighborhood was packed and they weren't.

I came to Papatzul for a late dinner and some dancing on a Saturday night, having made a reservation in advance. Highly recommend doing this if you're looking to dance, so that you don't have to wait in line when they convert the dining room to a dance floor at around 11PM! When we were leaving, the line was around the block. Service was extremely chaotic and both our drink and food orders kept getting lost. There were at least 3 items we had to reorder, and we noticed other tables around us having the same issue. However, our server was extremely apologetic (and very stressed) and brought us some complimentary Margaritas and tequila shots, which we appreciated. However, when the food finally did come out, it was delicious! The beef in my Birria De Res Tacos was SO soft and the dish was extremely flavorful. My friends really liked their food as well, including the Pescado Estilo Baja tacos, Elote De Coyoacan, and Queso Con Chorizo. Actually, the Queso Con Chorizo should really be called the Chorizo Con Queso, because it was WAY more meat than cheese - so that one was a little odd. The drinks were pretty good too. I tried the Le Papatzul (a regular lime margarita) and the Margaritas En Las Rocas (passion fruit margarita). Both were tasty, but the lime tasted a lot stronger than the passionfruit. We also had a great time dancing when the tables were put away, but the space gets very crowded very quickly, so be prepared for that. Would probably return!

Lots of negatives here but I simply CANNOT get past this thing they call "salsa Papatzul" (see photo). It's 5 different "dips" for $10 and the serving size is legit the size of a child's spoon -- please let me know how I can fit a chip in a 1/4" square space!!!! I was cracking up the whole time apart from the fact that it was $10. Once I got past this monstrosity, the guac was okayyyy, tbh it felt smooth & like it came from a package. The vegee tacos were the only good part (probably because drenched in oil). Also, the service, beyond slow -- had to ask for water multiple times. Maybe it was an off day. But it was a VERY off day.

I ordered a soup and asked them if they would serve me at the tables outside the establishment. They said yes but actually packed it to go instead and brought it out to me all packed up. I barely opened the top of the packaging and it squirted the scalding hot soup all over my clothes. It was filled to the brim, leaving no room for the steam to go and it basically created a vacuum that then exploded on me, if the table I opened it on would have been normal height, it would have burned my face. I went back in and told them what happened and they were not helpful and told me I should be careful with hot things, almost sarcastic, instead of apologizing and actually feeling bad for how irresponsible that was on their end. I said I wanted to speak to the manager, the person "helping" me, asked me what is it that I want, almost suggesting I'm trying to make a profit out of the situation, very insulting. They asked me to leave my name and phone number and said they would pass it along to the manager. It's been a few days and they haven't reached out. I called and the manager is again not there. I left my number, the man I talked to asked what I wanted, I said I would like my clothes replaced and he didn't think that was something that they could do but said he'd give my number to the manager. I'll see if he calls or if they do anything about it and report back. The food was ok but overpriced and greasy.

I did not know about this bar/restaurant up until recently and decided to give it a try. The drinks were really strong and tasty ! It looks like it's a restaurant during the day and then turns into a bar. We just hung out at the bar the whole time and overall I had a good time.

THEY ARE RIPPING PEOPLE OFF! I went there for drinks and ordered at the bar. I order three drinks (for me, my friend and wife) and they put in a forced gratuity for a "large group" and since I didn't realize that I also tipped them. Then my wife went to buy a margarita also at the bar and they poured it out of a pitcher into a plastic cup and told her it was $21! She gave them $25 and they said they had no change (in the middle of a busy night) so they didn't give her any money back. Beware they are ripping people off and probably hoping nobody would see it. The one star is only for all the Spanish music they play off a Spotify playlist.

I came here for lunch on a sunday. While the ambiance is really cute and the service was friendly, I felt the food was a bit pricey for the quality. The margarita was good though!

We dropped by Papatzul for an afternoon snack as we happened to be in the area. Service was a bit slow and food was okay. Nothing to draw me back again but an okay spot if you are in the area.

I knew this place was a red flag when the menu was Google drive document. First, they increased they prices specifically for Cinco de Mayo which is fine but it's unfortunate that the menu you get in the restaurant is completely different and more expensive than what is listed on their website. Second, they sat us in the dinner area that had very little room to maneuver around. At some point the restaurant was so crowded that there was literally no space between us and the table next to us. Third the food and the drinks were not good. I ordered a watermelon margarita and I'm fully convinced my drink only consisted of watermelon juice, lime juice, and ice. I'm pretty sure they water down their drinks. It's not worth $12. The guacamole was pale and bland and the chips were unsalted. My entree was a very strange. I ordered skirt steak that came with a small amount of very bland rice, overcooked and extremely mushy black beans, undressed lettuce and more of that sickly guacamole. My friend said her birria tacos were subpar. Finally the reason this place is 1 star instead of 2 stars. The service is pretty bad. Our server, though nice, attempted to rush us through our meal. We informed him that our friend would be arriving late and every 2 minutes (literally) he was pushing us to order. I understand Cinco De Mayo is a busy night for them but I hate feeling rushed. He wasn't very attentive and would walk away mid sentence. Luckily the food came quickly. When we got the check, they didn't give us a receipt which I thought was sketchy. They don't allow you to split the check more than 2 ways. They also tacked on an automatic 20% gratuity fee. This is fine but inform your customers first! Overall I spent $80 for watered down drinks, bland food and sub par service. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Extremely rude bouncers. A colombian bouncer was so disrespectful to me & my girlfriends we decided to leave & not enter. Don't even bother coming, staff are very unprofessional and lack basic hospitality/communication skills. & based on the reviews drinks are pricey for no reason. Ill take my business & good vibes elsewhere.

The fish tacos are delicious here. Would definitely be back for more. Drinks were also really smooth! Our waitress was super helpful in explaining the menu. Chips and guacamole was okay. Had better. Will definitely be back for the fish tacos tho ! One of the best I had so far !

A great latin bar/club/restaurant. Meals are served until 10 pm then turns into a nightclub. $50 cover per person which includes two drink redemptions. Music is all Latino and perfect for a night out with a group of people. Incredible place to dance.

Have passed by Papatzul many times, and finally had the chance to try it on a special night. Food and drinks did not disappoint! The vibe is great, but after about 8:30 they get the disco ball going, the Bamboleo pumping and the place gets It also seems like a great place for a special occasion. For birthdays they bring out sparklers, a letter board with your name, bubbles - the whole thing. It's kind of like being in the Mexico of St. Barths. Anyway, growing up I didn't really have a great childhood, and birthdays? Well, let's just say they weren't very happy. So I never really celebrate them and like to turn it up for my half birthday instead. I was hoping for some of that same pageantry for my half birthday, but apparently they're not into half birthdays. Oh well.

Came here with a friend to get drinks to wrap up our day in the city. The ambiance was great, all the staff were friendly and the bartenders were skilled and welcoming. We had 2 rounds of margaritas, the tamarind margarita was my favorite. I'd come back again to try some of their food and more drinks!

Aw man I read the reviews on this place and was excited for some $8 dollar margs, happy hour until 8, and good food. It's actually 9.50 margs... okay no biggie. Then the happy is until 7 not 8... ugh okay. The food was actually pretty good. They have the biggest flautas I have ever seen. Ordered one round of them as an appetizer and then ordered them again as my main the drinks were eh though. Not strong and too much ice. And I read that they were strong so what happened? We got the fish tacos 8/10. Filling taco, but bland seasoning on the fish. Good sauce Birria tacos. These were OK. Also 8/10. Saucy enough but not too saucy, good seasoning, but they were a little small or not packed well enough. The elote: no. Okay wouldn't order again. Corn tasted old and not fresh. Too salty. I guess the only thing I really enjoyed was the flautas Probably wouldn't come again unless someone else offered and insisted. J

This place always makes me feel happy the moment I step inside! It has a great atmosphere, festive music, and amazing guacamole! Everyone that works here is super nice too! If you want an escape from some of these pretentious NY restaurants - come here and feel like you are vacationing in Mexico!

First time here and always wanted to go. It's very cute and decorated nicely. The staff was a tad bit slow but all around very nice people. The drinks were good except for one of the specialty cocktails they serve (Rosa Mezcal). This legit didn't have any mezcal in it! We had to ask them to remake it, luckily they did. The big issue for me was the food. The chips and guacamole was nothing spectacular, felt like I could of got the same quality at Trader Joe's. My friend asked for cheese enchiladas which wasn't on the menu but they said they will make for him. It comes out and it's swimming in the red sauce which ended up tasting more like marinara sauce (yikes). I had the carnitas tacos. It came with 3 tacos and 2 different salsas on the side. The carnitas were a bit over cooked and loads of fat I had to pick through. By the time I got home I was in the bathroom all night which I knew right away was due to the weirdly cooked meat. I wouldn't go there again unless for the drinks, but there's so many other Mexican restaurants that have good food that's not over priced

Have been coming here for years, our favorite Mexican spot in the city! Amazing margaritas and quesadilla's!

I came here for a post work drink and I did not enjoy it. I had one of their happy hour margaritas and I had to return it. The first one I ordered was tamarind and it tasted seasoned. I asked the bartender to return it. He made me another margarita no questions asked a passion fruit one. This one was too tart and I asked him to make it sweet and he did. I am not sure if it was me but I saw other people enjoying their drinks. I took off two stars because it is a Mexican restaurant and I did not enjoy my margarita. The service was fine he was very busy and was nice. I am not sure I would go back.

Love this spot! I come here all the time for work happy hours. They have some great deals on drinks ($5 beer + sangria, $6 margaritas). The watermelon marg is definitely my favorite. Just keep in mind that happy hour is only at the bar. The food here is also great. I especially love their guacamole and tacos. Overall, solid spot with super fast and friendly service.

The Shrimp Ceviche was to die for! Phenomenal place. Aesthetic was nice, as well. There was a somewhat slower service but all in all, the food was amazing. Pictured is the Alambre De Res, as well. My only downside would be the service. There was awkwardness in getting seated, waiters wouldn't come around to take our order, etc.

Was looking for a good happy hour special in soho and found this place.. unfortunately. The service was extremely slow and rude, the food was mediocre at best and the drinks were just flat out not good. The decor was really cute, which is I guess where they deserve one star. Service: the waiter seemed to be in a rush to take our order and seemed bothered when we asked a couple questions about the menu. There was a 2 taco minimum on the happy hour menu, so my boyfriend ordered 3, and he basically tried to tell him he needed to order 4 because the minimum was 2. It was only when we countered this by saying that as long as he was ordering more than the minimum it shouldn't matter, he let it go and said "he could do it for us" as if he was doing a favor. More than 10 minutes pass, and we still don't have drinks (even though we were sitting in the bar area). Our food comes and another 10 minutes pass and we still don't have drinks. Then we finally get them and instead of apologizing for the delay, he just puts them down and walks away. We then had to call him back to remind him we ordered guac to which he answered "you did?" When we finally asked for the bill, he walks over with the mobile register and tells me the total instead of giving me the receipt, and when I asked to see a copy I see we were overcharged for the guac. It took him about 15 minutes to come back to our table so I could tell him about the mistake. When I finally paid and did not leave a tip (which is something I think I've only ever done 2 other times in my life) I told him his service was not great and he shrugged and said ok. Food and drinks: food was extremely mediocre and lacked salt. The mezcalita tasted watered down and the passionfruit margarita tasted like juice. Needless to say, would definitely not recommend.

We were visiting out of town and really wanted to go to a place that played Latin music and allowed us to dance. Overall the music was a vibe, but they price per drink was insane. We started out at $20 per cocktail and shot which I guess is fine, but when we went back for another round for the same shot they just decided it would be $45 each. No reason, no special event. Kinda disappointing cause we would've been back otherwise. Not worth that price let alone the service.

Tonight's DJ sucked! If you are gonna charge a 50$-25$ fee at least get a decent DJ that knows how to mix songs! What a vibe killer! No worth it

This place was the place to go when DJ Alex Wantabe was playing but after he left who ever they got djaying isn't up to his level. The transitions aren't good and the music sucks. For the price they charge I don't recommend it. Try favela cubana dj Alex wantabe plays there and it's free cover. The music makes the place so yea negative stars for this place

We were a group of four, coming in at 3am, looking for a night cap. Got charged $165 to get in + mandatory check in. Very rude attitude all throughout. Decided to leave. Sad to leave such a bad review to this place, but management has made some poor decisions preventing customers wanting to stay in. Cover used to be $15/per person, with a drink. You're better off going to Yuca, Felix, or Pulqueria. Won't come back in.

4.5 stars...this place rocks the best Mayan food! As the name suggests "Food for the Lords". It was indeed. The signage of Happy Hour deals and the painted walls on the exterior, letting you what good eats await - we were hungry and excited to try this place after checking out the menu. The music was pumping and the restaurant staff was all very welcoming once we got inside. I love it when you walk into a crowded restaurant and see it packed with a friendly and lively crowd - don't you? Walking through to get to my table, I see lots of delicious plates and the smells just waft towards me. Lots of folks drinking and all are having a good time. (We really got lucky with the seating - there were about two tables left!) First and foremost before I get to the food, we had excellent service in a place already bustling with people. Mong, our server, was pleasant and very knowledgeable of the food served here. She even made sure to ask if any of us had any food allergies before ordering. She even did one better and eyeballed the orders, repeated it all back to ensure it was correct -- I just LOVE great service and she deserves all the credit. Especially since I do have a food allergy - her service was just so refreshing. That's just awesome of her! I hope Management recognizes her effort and her expertise. She was also very informative at describing some of the plates we had questions on. And her suggestions were on point!! From our appetizers to our dinner picks, everything was delicious. We started our feast with an order of Guacamole and Tortilla Chips. It was made in the kitchen (not table side) and was served in the stone bowl. It was so good - you could taste the tomatoes, the onions, the garlic and the hint of lime juice. We loved it so much, we ordered a second! The other must try appetizer was the Ceviche Papatzul Vuelve a la Vida. A combination of shrimp, sea scallops, octopus and sword fish served in a large margarita glass. Per my buds, it was excellent and got the best reviews of the evening. I ordered the Enchiladas de Pato al Mole Almendrado - slow roasted duck enchiladas in a rich almond mole. The mole was perfection - the taste and the color was rich, the hint of almond made it over the top. I highly recommend it. It's one of the best items on this menu (Mong agrees, it's a highlight). The duck was shredded and oh so savory. This dish was simple and so beautifully presented (see pic). We also ordered some soft tacos - shrimp and steak. Both were very good and worth ordering. Oh, I should mention, they do serve "Chapulines" (fried crickets) as listed on the menu but sadly it was not available on this visit. Better luck next time I guess. I shall return and I hope Mong is my server again. Note: there are a few steps up to get into the restaurant from the street as the place is not really street level. FYI.

Im a bartender so I know how 1 oz and how 2 oz look in a glass it was a weekend night and the bartender poured barely one ounce (poorly free poured) so I asked if it was 20 dls for 1 oz? He was super rude and with the worst attitude ever he said it was 2 oz but that I can pay extra for more.. they add gratuity, it's very expensive and it's amazing how a "bartender" can fuck up a rum and coke place is a joke

If I could give this disaster of a place a 0 I would. First of all lemme say I love hospitality and dislike having to do this. Upon arrival Friday 7/14/2023 I was rudely asked to get in a bogus line by Security. When I got to the front of the line Security tried to hustle me by saying I can bypass cover for $20. I objected as I saw all other Patrons go to a Spanish lady who barely speaks any English. She then attempted to charge me $100 drink minimum for 2 drinks after I heard her charge 2 Spanish customers $50. When I entered the venue, service was incredibly slow and the drinks were disgusting way too much alcohol. Entire staff look disinterested in work, go figure. The place is packed beyond capacity and you can barely breathe as there is no central air. The DJ plays the same songs 2-3 times throughout the night. Unless you Hispanic or personal friends with these people I wouldn't send my dog to this place. What a disgrace, mistreating Americans while operating a business within America.

I've been coming here since the summer with my boyfriend and friends. We had such a great time. It's a bit expensive cover charges are like $25-50 and they give you like one or two drinks with the cover charge. Then drinks are expensive because they charge you gratuity automatically on your drink, I learned the first time I had tipped them twice. I honestly didn't care about that because the music was great, we would have such a fun time dancing vibing to the music. These past few times we went on Halloween and now around thanksgiving, Dj sucks. The transitions are just horrible. If the music isn't get then I'm not going to continue drinking. It sucks but definitely have to find a new spot.

I had a lot of mixed feelings about this place. First off, the food is great! I had the chips and salsa and the ceviche. Both were great and I would definitely come back for that ceviche. The happy hour deals are amazing too and some of the best in the city. $5 sangria and $6 margaritas? Yes please. Service was friendly enough. I sat at the bar but as soon as I was done with my glass of sangria they asked if they could close me out. I was still planning on ordering another drink or so. It wasn't super crowded so no idea what was going on, but hey, I guess I'll spend the money drinking elsewhere... The atmosphere is lively and casual. It's definitely a place to go if you like a fun atmosphere with your meal. The food came out fast enough and I still can't get over how good that ceviche was. All in all, I had a good experience thanks to the food and great happy hour deals. I would come back if I was in the area.

I'm a tacos addict so when I saw the reviews for Papatzul I jumped on it! I was going to go for the carnitas, but something told me to for the fish tacos. I'm glad I did. You could either get the fish grilled or fried. I went for fried and they were bomb! My friend had the grilled and he enjoyed them. We cleared two servings of chips with guac and salsa. The guac was phenomenal (it does contain tomatoes but I didn't taste them that much so I'm happy lol). The rice that came with my dish wasn't tasty tho, but that was the only bummer. We got margaritas with a bit of extra spice in it and they were so good and strong, so pace yourself. The decor of Papatzul is perfect and artsy --fits right in its SoHo home. We sat at the front so we had a nice view of the comings and goings. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and there's a tele for sports! Enjoy!

This place is insanely packed, you can't move in between people, people are spilling drinks on you and you can't even dance. The drink prices go up at night and you're getting over charged. You have to pay $50 at the entrance (which gives you two drinks), or $25 cover fee no drinks. The music is good but it's not enjoyable because of how many people are in the same place.

I came in yesterday to have some Margaritas after dinner nearby. So I just sit at the bar when I ordered a Piña colada it was taken so long. The machine was working. So I told the bartender I would like another drink, And he continue to try to fix the machine after 5 minutes past and 3 guys working on this machine and I'm getting no service at all. Then finally I get the bartender attention and get another drink instead. Then the guy who must be a manager or the owner starts walking back and forth behind and tell the bartender to make him a shot! Why couldn't he ask him from where he was sitting at the end of the bar? Then he starts playing music loud from his cellphone with no respect to me. Then another waiter was wearing sunglasses and I thought nothing of it, until he took them off and had this ugly black eye! I was ready to go after that. Took about 10 mins to get my check this was the most uncomfortable experience dining I ever had! And I been going there for 8 years. I'm very disappointed in the service! Ps on top of all this my drink was made wrong. Unbelievable

Horrible service. Went there to have a drink at the bar and the bartender kept making other people's drinks. I waited and he never asked for my order. Waste of time and disgusting service. I would never go back

Happy hour until 8 & they take reservations! We loved our margaritas and dug into tacos and enchiladas which hit the spot. The front of house is great for happy hour and sitting by the bar seemed a bit livelier plus you get to watch the bar for any interesting action. In the back you'll get more seating and space, great if you don't want to hear the conversation next to you... but hey sometimes you just want to eavesdrop. I really enjoyed the grilled fish tacos, and could have eaten a few more with no regrets. I appreciated all the staff constantly coming over to make sure we were ok and helping us with anything including making me feel better about healthy taco options! Would definitely come back again, and would order the gauc since the serving size looks huge!

Casual turn packed latino bar with lively nighttime music and a fun encompassing crowd that has the makings of an awesome night prior to getting hit with the steep cover and drink prices. $20 a drink. 4/5 stars as a night bar.

As always I had a delicious dinner and with my favorite drink "margaritas! Highly recommend the pozoleyummy! Thank you Papatzul team for such a great night, it warm me up in such a cold night.

Papatzul I work and live downtown and have come to trust Papatzul as a go-to in the Soho area. Tonight I brought a friend there, she just moved to the city and wanted good margs. I made a reservation and we walked over. When we got there (early), they told us the kitchen was closed and we couldn't be on sat. Strange? The restaurant was loud, open, and clearly ready for our patronage. Another member of the staff came over and sat us. My friend's a vegetarian, so when she asked the waitress for a cheese quesadilla and was told, "no. no substations." we were both confused. Instead of questioning it (giving the benefit of the doubt), we ordered veggie tacos. 20-25 mins had gone by since we ordered drinks, 5 min later a friend told me she was heading over. I placed a drink order for her. 5 min later, she arrived. No drinks. The waitress took her food order, "a cheese quesadilla, please." "sure!" When the drinks finally arrived, my new friend in town and I were still scratching our heads. There was no cheese quesadilla according to our waitress just a half-hour ago. Weird. We shrugged it off. Drinks finally came. Continuing to offer the benefit of the doubt. A few more margs later we decided it was time to go. "But where to?" We asked ourselves. The restaurant began to smell so foul I thought we were being punk'd. No Ashton. We got the check, paid, and continued the conversation outside. We descended the stairs and were chatting out front, distanced from a few other patrons. All of a sudden, out came one busy boy, our waitress, and another waiter, all yelling that we "didn't pay the bill!" Took a second to realize they were yelling to us since I very consciously paid the bill and signed the check. I remember because she told us we couldn't split it, like I'm 99% sure I'd done with friends many visits in the past. Again, we just rolled with it, gave one card and moved on. Now this? As evidenced above, the entire night consisted of us pardoning our waitress for her ineptitude, now they're yelling and falsely accusing us of.. dining and... what, slowly walking out of the restaurant and lingering out front? The only dashing that took place was the staff running out of the restaurant only to realize they had made a mistake. All of that yelling was for naught. So.. the end a horrible meal (only good thing was the company), was made worse by, the above. It was almost hard to believe. I'm going to now give the other Mexican restaurants in the area more play instead of remaining loyal to this place. That's all!

Food is not that great. Brunch, no one is there. After hours, the security guards have power trips where they feel they can kick people out for looking the wrong way. The owner sucks and does northing. Overpriced and not worth it.
