Papi's Cuban Grill

Simply nasty and disappointing. This place used to be great and was my go-to spot whenever I craved authentic Cuban cuisine. I recently visited the restaurant and ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast meal. The chicken was undercooked, and the side salad was just thrown on the plate — very unappetizing and sloppy in presentation. I told the waitress that the chicken was undercooked, and she said she would speak to her supervisor, but she did so with an attitude. The manager never came to the table. When I finally asked for the bill, she brought it without removing the chicken meal, even though she saw I hadn’t eaten it. She never apologized or mentioned what her supervisor had said. I paid the bill and walked out. More recently, I decided to give them another try through Uber Eats, thinking the poor restaurant experience was a one-off. I ordered a Chicken Sandwich with Rice and Beans and the Chicken Tostones Supremos. When the order arrived, there were no condiments or sauces for the Tostones — everything was just tossed into the bag. The chicken sandwich was tasteless; the shredded chicken was undercooked, greasy, and unpleasant. It tasted as if the sandwich had been heated in a microwave rather than freshly cooked. The Tostones Supremos were loaded with cheese, and the plantains were hard and oily. I will never return to this restaurant again and do not recommend it to anyone.

Been going to this place for a very long time and it’s definitely changed. The food quality and the portions are not what it used to be, but it’s still ok for the price. The steak had an interesting consistency but everything else shown in the photos were good.

Today was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I can say I liked the food. The meats were very juicy, the drinks delicious, and the service was good. Luna, who I believe is Colombian like me, was very friendly and served us very well. I will return soon; I highly recommend it!

Review for Poppy’s Cuban Grill: I’m very disappointed with my recent experience at Poppy’s Cuban Grill. When I received my meal, I found a hardware nail inside my food. This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about cleanliness and food safety in their kitchen. I expect restaurants to follow proper health and safety standards, and this situation could have caused a serious injury. I hope management takes this matter seriously and investigates how something like this could happen. Please be cautious if you decide to order from here until they address this issue properly.

My wife and I noticed ever since this location has been remodeled the portion size of food is Half the size of what you used to be. When you were seated the waitress would bring You bread-while you wait for your food that doesn’t happen anymore. Yes, the place looks nice but what makes customers come back overall is the food. My wife and I are not people who eat a whole lot, but we were still hungry when we finished eating. Small piece of chicken, small cup of rice, a cup of beans with mostly Liquid very little beans in it . The food was ok but won’t be returning.

When I walked into the restaurant, I was immediately hit with a lingering odor that reminded me of a dirty truck stop bathroom. The smell wasn’t as strong once you moved farther inside, but it was still noticeable. Despite the restaurant not being busy, the service was surprisingly poor. Our server barely checked on us, and at the end of the meal I actually had to get up, walk to the bar, and ask for my check. I guess when the tip is automatically included, the level of service doesn’t matter. Before leaving, I stopped by the restroom and realized that’s exactly where the foul smell was coming from—it was strong enough to drift into the main dining area. On top of all that, the food quality has definitely gone downhill. Portions seem to be cut in half and the dishes have noticeably less flavor. Overall, I’m not sure I’ll be returning.

Very delicious! Good vegetarian options. Well seasoned. Everything was wonderful. Nice interior. First visit today, and I cannot wait to go back. Maduros were great. The garlic oil yuca was also wonderful. Beans are flavorful. Will be back!

In Atlanta to get some work done on our coach and met some friends here for dinner the first night on their suggestion. They know our food tastes fairly well and they sure picked a winner. Service was prompt, attentive and friendly, with drink and app orders taken right after we were seated. Dos Equis Amber on tap is always always a good find in my book, and they offer both 16 and 32 oz sizes (Which way you think I went?). The table shared orders of tostones supreme and empanadas, and they were gobbled up so quick I didn't have time to snap a pic. Mama and I split an order of the Lechon Asado that was way more than enough for us plus leftovers. A keeper for when we're in the area.

My experience here is always good. I ordered the empanada sampler, crab cakes and yuca fries to share between a friend and I. We weren't that hungry so this is all we ordered. I wish real crabs were used in the crab cake. It was a little bland and I probably wouldn't order it again. The empanadas were good especially with the sauce over it. The service was exceptional that day.

Yadalya made the best mojotos hands down. Top notch service. I am coming back and getting her section.

I've been back various times since my first review and I can attest that it was probably just one bad kitchen day cause my meals since then have been great! The ropa vieja is my new favorite. And the DRINKS! The drinks are strong! I love the coconut mojito it always gets me right. Love papis and I will be back!

The food quality had actually gotten worse. I'm downright never ordering from here again. I can get a better cuban at Publix. Not only was it small but tasted rancid and rushed. I really think they gave me old food. Most disgusting thing I've ever tasted and I will do my best to discourage anyone from ordering from here. Half a cuban was about the size of a single empanada. This was a delivery order.

Hands down my favorite cuban sandwich around the area. Last time my shrimp tostones were way overcooked though. I would definitely get again and extra salsa verde for whatever you want to pour it on!

Love the tasty food and the service is great! Big note: online ordering isn't available at the moment, so call it in so you don't miss your cravings! If you order using Google, DoorDash, UberEats etc., your order will bounce back and be canceled. Just an FYI Inside is still spacious with plenty of seating. They have outside patio seating as well. Not sure if it is in use since this week has been kind of rainy.

This place has great food! It's Cuban and Caribbean. So what if it has tacos on its menu and that's not Cuban as one bad review said. I don't know why someone would give a 1 star for that. I had the Pan Con Bistec (steak sandwich on Cuban bread) it was fantastic. This place is way better than the 3.6 stars it shows. I would for sure recommend this place to anyone. Service was great and fast.

Ordered for pick-up. I was on my lunch break. Did not have to wait long. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. A bit disappointed. They used chicken breast instead of thighs. They didn't really break up the chicken and it was dry. The Yuca fries were good. I also ordered the Maduros and the Croquetas Jamón. These two are usually my go to snacks. They were okay. Not the best I've had but not the worst. I might give them another try as a sit down and not to go. Sometimes that makes a difference.

The Rey's Cuban is my absolute favorite Cuban sandwich bar none! You can get it with fries which are ridiculously delicious or for .49 more you can get rice white or yellow I prefer yellow and black beans and both are so good! We start with the crab cake app for $5.40 you get 2 and they do have filler bc they have a great crispy crunch served along with Pico and this green sauce that is spicy but oh so good so worth the money! Every time we go we say we are going to try something new to us but we end up ordering Rey's Cuban one day we will try a different dish bc we sit in our booth sweating the plates being brought out

Service was fine. Mojito was good. Food was good. I sat at the bar and did not like the set up. The chairs are way lower than the bar so it makes it difficult to eat comfortably. Also , the tv's at the bar are weirdly angled & hard to actually just look up and watch.

The best mojito I've ever had. Yadalys gave the best service. Go check out Papi's Cuban.

Got some hair in both my entrees for this order. Papi's has been great. Sometimes the chicken can be dry and the shrimp can be over cooked but it's still good! Please beware of hair in your food!

This was is a neighborhood restaurant with great ambiance of the culture of Cuba. This painting and mural are full of vibrant colors. The food is was good. Crab cakes cooked harder than I'm used to but nevertheless tasty. The shrimp taco were full of flavor and not over cooked. Our server Ms. Shanna was attentive to us. She came back to check on us several times. There are TVs located throughout the restaurant. Music was playing in the restaurant not loud but enough for you to hear.

Really good authentic Cuban food. The food is seasoned with lots of flavor and moderate amounts of salt. I ordered take out but this place is great to dine in. I would def return here to dine in!

This is the 3rd time in a row that I have gotten the Tostones to go and been very disappointed. There was only cheese covering the top one, they stacked all four (plain) tostones on top of each other, and then put chicken and cheese on the top one and not the rest! Sprinkled a little pico on top of the one. When we got them the other night there was only cheese and chicken on two of them, they are clearly screwing that to go orders. This doesn't happen when you order in person. This is generally one of my favorite places to eat, but I have become extremely disappointed in the takeout

Psss... come here for a second Listen to me... this place is AMAZING! This is my second time I less than a week. Prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious. Today I got the Arroz con pollo and the portion size was enough for two. Flavor was on point as well! Also there are two sauces that are exclusive to the restaurant and all I want to say is YES! Should you try them...YES! Should you buy a bottle of each...YES! The garlic sauce is superb and the habanero cilantro is as well. Come back and tell me how you like it when you try it!!!

The drink was really good. The pernil in the sándwich had also had really good flavor. My sister had the bowl and said it was yummy. I would go back if I'm in the area again. The inside was also decorated cute

Food was just ok and service was utterly disappointing. We were seated well before the dinner rush in an almost empty dining room and ignored for almost ten minutes. The bartender handled our table instead of one of the servers doing so and seemed perturbed with us. Drinks then came out pretty quickly but food was too slow for just a sandwich and pulled pork. No follow up visit or drink refills offered at our table. Won't be going back.

I've been going to Papi's for years now the food is very delicious it's always consistent in terms of quality and taste and the portions are very good enough to have at least two meals in my opinion. The black beans are well seasoned and everything tastes like a delicious Cuban style home cooked meal.

Long overdue review. I am a regular customer and their food and service is the best. The food is traditional Cuban cuisine.Tonight I got take out for a few Cuban friends of mine and it seems like Papis just got a few more regulars.

Empanadas at this place are amazingly good! I dont know which I like best, we ordered the sampler and I ended up eating all four-lol as my entree. My date ordered a pork meal and I was able to try it- all very good. We dined at the bar, so the mango mojito stole the show!!!! Really good, no ice watering down the flavor and she did not skip on the rum and mint! If you like cuban food, You should definitely check this place out!

One of my favorite chain restaurants. Yes, I said it! Pro tip: ask for a side of extra garlic (white) sauce. It's one of those sauces where you literally can "put that sh*t on anything!" But probably have some mints available after you eat haha I had the vaca frita, which is definitely my go-to EVERY time I eat here! You get a little bit of everything: the delicious shredded beef slowly simmered with grilled onions, garlic and a special blend of Cuban spices... rice and black beans... salad and plantains! It's a pretty hefty dish, too. I took home half of it to eat later. Did you know they have a location in the Atlanta airport? It used to be my go to if I was ever super early for my flight, back when I used to travel a lot lol. Man, I miss traveling...

absolutely delicious and our server was kali so sweet and happy to take care of us. we had a mojito and palomilla steak and it was great.

This was my first time trying Papi's. During this pandemic I am amazed how restaurants are doing their best to keep us safe while still trying to do business. They are doing a very good job as we sat outside spaced out very well. The staff had mask on and limited their visits to the table. That being said, they made sure we had ample supplies, condiments or whatever we needed to keep the personal space clear. We were hungry so we ordered appetizers and a meal and this was just supposed to be lunch. We started out with the Empanada Sampler. We opted to do the combination of beef and chicken. Im torn on which one was the best because they are both delicious. We followed up with the Papi's Taco Platter (Shrimp) and Rey's Cuban Sandwich. The shrimp taco's were pretty good but let me tell you about this Cuban Sandwich. The slow roasted pork and whatever kind of secret sauce they used was friggin amazing. The pork was so tender and you could just pull it apart. The flavor was perfect and the sandwich is rather large. Of course we had some adult beverages... I got a mojito and my girlfriend got a margarita and some type of cuban punch ... Im sorry I can't remember the name. You all should certainly stop by and try them out. Have been wanting to try out this spot since I am usually in the area and pass by it. Dropped by for a spouse date on Valentine's Day and the food is pretty decent. I think it needs more live music and a experience to bring in more customers. The Pina Colada drink as shown could have been a bit stronger meaning more rum should have been added. Service is good as well as environment .

I went here with a gf, and I'm glad she picked this spot. Man, this place has been on the bookmarked list for the longest time so it was high time I went. We ventured here around 5:30 PM on a Thursday night, and the place had a few folks dining in already. Though service was fine, we did think them rushing the bill to us and getting us our to-go box mid-way through our meal was sort of strange. It's not like they were booming busy. Anyway, the food experience... The coffee con leche was good. It looked like a crafted latte from a coffee spot. It wasn't as sweet as a latte nor as strong as a Cuban coffee. It was good though and hit the (sleepy) spot. We shared the empanada sampler: 2 beef and 2 chicken. I ate the beef in the restaurant so it was hot and crispy. The leftover chicken was consumed the next day so it was a tad dry. The green and white sauce that came with it really helped add additional flavors. Papi's sandwich was a really good pick as the sandwich was large, meaty, and moist. The main meat was pork with a slice of ham. It's sort of like the Cuban but more liberal with Papi's sauce making it moister. It's basically like the Cuban (as I just re-read the menu) with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. The pictured sides come with rice and beans, but you could substitute it for yuka fries, plantains, or a 3rd choice I can't remember. The rice was good mixed with the black beans, but they weren't anything special. They're a standard at any Hispanic spot -- maybe refried beans versus black. And lastly, Papi's is to the left of Publix so parking was pretty plentiful at this end corner.

Excellent food with excellent service. I ordered the Papi's bowl with ropa vieja and my husband got the pan con bistec. Everything was delicious, fresh, and extremely flavorful. We were shocked that the reviews were only 3.5 stars. We will definitely be back, and I 10/10 recommend this place for authentic Cuban food!!

WOW WOW WOW! I had never eaten Cuban food before, and my boyfriend is Cuban, so I said why not?! Boy was a pleased! Amazing service EVERY time I go, and the food is truly authentic and wonderful! I suggest getting the Ropa Vieja if you've never tried before. So flavorful and melts in your mouth! Ps: the Tostones are out of this world! I'll be back monthly!

Papi's never disappoint us. The food was amazing. Our service was great. The place was nice and friendly.

I got the roast pork and I was surprised at how it was surrounded by huge amount of oil. It was like it was scooped out the bottom of the pan and they didn't bother straining all the oil out. It's a shame I love their shredded chicken and beef empanadas. Natural juices are delicious and the server was kind and attentive. Everything seemed clean cute decor.

Came here to order lunch to go!! Crab cakes are always a yessss! Jerk chicken power bowl was amazing! So much spices too. Asked for no beans but it came with beans so -1 star for that.

From the moment we walked in at lunchtime today, it was clear that there was not enough help and there would be a little bit of a wait. I understand in these times how those things go, so that was not a big deal. Once we finally got to order our meal, it came out in a reasonable amount of time. However, my daughter ordered a steak sandwich (can't remember the actual name) that had meat on it that was so tough it was impossible to bite through. I ordered the regular Cuban sandwich in which I found a giant piece of bone and a lot of gristle in the pork. When we finally got our waitress to come back so we could pay the bill, I told her what the situation was and she said she would speak to the chef about it. She did offer the menu to me (I guess to order some sort of replacement) but by that time we had been there well over an hour and I could care less about any other food. When she came back, she said oh don't worry that was just a bone and laughed about it -- to which I replied "well, it's not a very nice thing to bite into while eating a sandwich" and she basically had no response, and laughed. Both my daughter and I have felt sick for the rest of the day, I took a bite of her steak, and it was absolutely gross. Needless to say we won't be returning after such a terrible meal. The fries, rice and beans were fine. The rest really was substandard and not good at all. This was our second visit. First was over a year ago and the food was great. I guess today was an off day or things have really gone downhill since we last visited.

We drove 30 minutes to get here just to be told that they weren't seating anyone else because they're closing early due to it being slow because it's Super Bowl Sunday. We were told that we could place to-go orders, that's proof that their kitchen wasn't closing early so the whole thing made no sense. A manager was sent to talk to us without us even asking for him, he wasn't budging. I told him, "the door says that you close at 8 tonight" and he said, "I know it does but we got permission from our corporate manager to close early because no one is coming in. I told him, "we're here and there are other costumers here". He once again told us that we can place to-go orders and said that they're closed for dining in.

Manager gave me a hard time on substitution. Last time here the empanadas were over cooked. This is my second chance, and it's not going well. Hope the food does not let me down. Okay been there twice more and both times is very good and the food is very good so I guess I'll write off the minor inconsistencies

Papi's is NOT representative of Cuban cuisine. There is no such thing as Chicken vaca frita unless they've created a cow/chicken hybrid. Cuban food never included tacos or any kind, that's Mexican, possibly Central American. Ropa vieja, served over white rice only with maduros or tostones included. A ropa vieja Sandwich, maybe if any is leftover the next day; and that is a huge maybe. Oh the list goes on!!!! But maybe because I'm spoiled. I was born in Cuba and raised in Hialeah, Florida. You want good Cuban food, go to Hialeah, Fl. Any Cuban restaurant and the portions are huge. But Papi's ain't it and neither is any Cuban-wanna be restaurant in the Metro Atlanta area.

Terrible service. Waitress was in the back playing around and dancing. She could care less about rhe dining room guests. The manager Frank was very rude. Don't order fish here it is very fishy and old. I was told by Frank, "What do you expect it's very late." Worst service I have had in a year. Don't eat here you will leave mad.

I've been to Cuba and this place is authentic. Great food. Cuban sandwich is made with their fresh bread they make every day. Homemade sauces are really good. Met Louis and Rodney. Super people. Great place.

I love this place. The Empanadas are delicious! The atmosphere is always nice and the staff are always friendly! Their portions are very filling. I make it my business when I am on that side of town to not leave without getting take out from Papi's. Just a frozen strawberry margarita and their empanadas makes me a happy woman!!

Lowering from a 4 to a low 3 because of their lack of friendliness and how they addressed COVID-19. I stopped in today during COVID-19 restrictions. The gentleman that took my order was not friendly or welcoming at all. Local businesses have really been hit hard. It's the perfect time for restaurants to show their appreciation to customers that want to help local businesses survive. Nope. Not this time. The biggest turn off was how they are addressing COVID-19. No employees at the front counter wore face masks, no sanitizer was visible, and no disposable menus. The food is good and if you don't care about service or COVID-19 then this is the place for you. I, however, will find friendlier and more responsible businesses to patronize.

Made the mistake of assuming they were authentic enough to make Cuban espresso. Mistake. The gentleman behind the counter didn't even know what I was asking for. In English or Spanish. He then proceeded to ask where I was from, referring to my ethnicity, for which I responded Cuban. He continued to appear confused and in the end I received a small cup of overly sweet regular brew. I did not eat there and do not think I would If they cannot even serve an authentic cup of coffee. Would you considered a restaurant authentically Southern if they didn't serve tea or lemonade?

This place was very enjoyable. It's in the Publix shopping center with lots of parking. I went right at 5pm so it wasn't crowded and was quickly greeted and seated and I waited for my friend. The place is a nice size and great for groups or if you just want to sit at the bar with a few friends and drink, that is cool too. Very vibrant colors and the feel of Cuba for sure. The wait staff was very informative and friendly. He recommended some items as my friend and I were both eating on the lighter side which meant veggies and we were satisfied. The drinks were great too and I would certainly come back for those anytime. The prices are very reasonable and food portions are not shabby at all. I had some food left over to take home for a small meal. I look forward to going back to try other items.
