"Papouli’s has been serving Maconites Mediterranean and Greek food since 1986, making it a trusted restaurant institution in the local community. Founded by the Patras family, Papouli’s is one of north Macon’s go-to spots for takeout lunch or dinner, although the recently updated menu and renovated space make for a pleasant dine-in experience. Don’t skip purchasing something from the display case when paying for a meal here. The market’s selections do not disappoint." - Sarra Sedghi

Nice little place in Macon, GA. The falafel was good. It wasn't as extraordinary as everyone i spoke to said so. The Hummus was delicious, not sure what they put on top of it. The pita was soft and yummy. I loved the Baklava and LOVED that it wasn't too sweet. Also The Greek Style Fries were YUMMY, too. Just felt like it was a little too pricy for my taste. He charged for a small 1 oz side of feta and tatziki sauces. The feta sauce was good with the falafel! The Customer Service was good too!

Google
Heading north from Dublin and found Papouli’s in Macon and was so super excited! They used to have a location in Alpharetta that I frequented often but it’s no longer there. They are consistently good with food and service. We chose a Greek salad and a gyro but you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. Love, love, love this restaurant. It’s the perfect food served quickly.

Google
Discovered this small restaurant while visiting Macon today. A friendly woman greeted me and recommended a “Philly Cheese Steak”-style gyro with Greek fries. The traditional gyro was covered with onions, bell peppers and cheese, and tasted amazing. The pita was fresh and warm, and the beef and lamb meat was tender and piping hot. The fries were covered with parsley and a dusting of feta cheese, but could have been hotter. The decorations were tasteful and the ambiance was more oriented to takeout, however, inside and outside tables and booths definitely made dining on site a good option. Servings were generous. I highly recommend!

Google
I’m very pleased with everything, but not the baklava. I would’ve given them 5stars, but the baklava was very small for $4.00.. I’ve had much bigger pieces for around the same price. This was the smallest piece I’ve ever received from any restaurant or pastry shop. Everything else was perfect for the price.

I'm thinking about applying for a job here, just to learn how to make their delicious food! The food is so good! I think the Spartan is my favorite menu item. With everything else tied for a close second. had the half chicken and poured the brine over my rice, delicious!

We've been coming here for over 20 years so I don't know why it took me so long to add a review. Maybe because it's been probably 10 since I've been here for some reason. Anyway, they've changed a lot aesthetically; they added banquettes and replaced the stand-alone tables which gives a lot more seating. Pulled out the big case and now have two smaller ones to show off their fresh salads and desserts. Gyros are the same delicious wraps with tzatziki sauce and fresh chopped onions and lettuce. I tried the jasmine rice which looks plain but tastes salty and herby. The Greek fries are to die for, sprinkled with Feta cheese and herbs. The service is fast as well. By the time I'd filled my cup with Diet Coke, my gyro was on the table waiting. If you want traditional Greek food without the distraction of Italian in the mix, come here. You won't regret it.

Google
I had chicken souvlaki. There are only 4 pieces of meat in it. I paid over $13 for this sandwich. There could have been more meat in it. Disappointed. One good thing was that french fries were really good. Inside of place is clean. But, it does not give you that impression from outside. In fact, before I told my wife and daughter to come out of the car, I went in first to see the place.

Google
It smells SO good in there as soon as you walk in. I took the deepest of breaths. And the food is INCREDIBLE. Best food I've had in a while. Brings life to the taste buds. Ugh, I'm in love. I REALLY wish I didn't live over an hour away. I would be such a regular here. I definitely ate as much as I could while I could be there and took some with me!

Yelp
Excellent, authentic, and fresh mediterranean food. We enjoyed baba ganoush with pita, spanikopita with Greek fries (so yummy topped with fresh oregano herb blend) and Greek salad, and the Fattoush salad with yummy falafel. Nice market atmosphere that was cool and clean. Staff was friendly and we were served in about 5 min! So fast! Lots of food! Fresh and vibrant flavor!

Yelp
I travel to Macon about once a month and hit this place every time. I've jumped around the menu and have never been disappointed. I'm glad that they've recently added a points program. They have an area to eat out front which could be nice but there are pigeons uncomfortably close in the rafters above. They put up something to keep them from perching directly above you but I still don't trust those nasty things. I tried it once and just couldn't keep looking up to make sure those things left me alone. The area isn't great either so I experienced lots of loud "music" from cars visiting neighboring stores. I saw that they had an Alpharetta location that unfortunately is no more as I'd love to eat there when I'm not traveling. But, I'm sure I'll continue to eat here during all of my future visits to the area.

Yelp
We've stopped by here randomly a few times over the years when passing through Macon and just did again this past week. It'd been probably 7 years and we'd forgotten about it but then it all came back how good this place is! Everything is high quality from the soup to the platters to the desserts and the spanakopita is the best anywhere! Highly recommended and worthwhile pitstop!

Joy A.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!! right off the interstate. what a find! must try crescent pastry. Beef gyro! yum. (chefs kiss)

Donna A.

Yelp
The food was great. Portions were what you would expect and feeding 5 cost about $120 with appetizers we chose to take it home to east as their seating is limited and they are popular.

Ethan H.

Yelp
Food was great, portions were a little small but otherwise everything was really good. Service and owner were very friendly and made sure to greet and speak with everyone.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Great staff, same as the great food. Authentic- with good portions and always a polite voice and smile.

Ammar S.

Yelp
Good food, decent portion size Quick service Reasonably priced I usually get take out here, would recommend to everyone

Jayson B.

Yelp
Service was great. Quick, efficient and polite. Answered all questions and the food was as advertised. Great place for Mediterranean food.

Dean B.

Yelp
Only comment is, if you order a gyro and pay full price, it should come with enough sauce. They wanted to charge an extra $1.35 for the sauce they didn't put on my gyro.... Ugh.... So I am not happy. Food was overall good, but not a $, more like $$.

Della A.

Yelp
Go to Olympia Gyros in Warner Robins! Two months ago, I got a wonderful large Greek salad here. Tonight, however, I just wanted a small Greek salad and my husband ordered a bowl of lemon chicken soup. The salad was an insulting miniscule size for the money and the dressing was awful. My husband's soup tasted like a cheap canned soup and had a fake creaminess and little flavor. Talk about disappointed. When I related my unhappiness with just the salad, the unconcerned smart aleck at the register said, "Well, you can order a large one and we can't take it back after it's touched your table!" No compensation here! Horrible customer service and food. I'll stop in Warner Robins and go to Olympia Gyros next time. They blow this place out of the water.

Nikki B.

Yelp
Update: I spoke with the DM and he agreed the young female should not have been rude and now that they actually appreciate their customers I will be back but now I know to ask them to show me what's in the bag. New customers need to know if there's napkins, utensils etc in the bag with the food. I assumed there wasn't...

Zoya A.

Yelp
That gyro meat is so fresh and the French fries are nice and soft, love it will be back again !!

Paige R.

Yelp
The service was wonderful, the foods was delicious. I cannot wait until I can back in Macon so I can visit them again!

Cathy M.

Yelp
This has always been my favorite place for Gyros and Greek salad. Friendly staff and delicious food. Enjoyed the Gyro platter with a generous portion of lamb, great salad. Love their Taziki sauce. Definitely a go to place when in Macon.

Fred M.

Yelp
Food tasty, service so so. Nice tasting med food. Good hummus. Decent pricing. Staff has no personality.

Wanda A.

Yelp
Just - simply great tasting food. ALWAYS Come here you will Not regret it - we stop each time we drive by the restaurant.

Kevin H.

Yelp
Great food - (maybe a little heavy on the onion sometimes). I usually get the beef/lamb combo gyro sandwich. The fries are good, and the portion size is perfect. The people have always been friendly and helpful.

Tauheedah M.

Yelp
Went again. They wouldn't take cash. Food was cold. I mean cold and we were traveling again. Florida this time.instead of Savannah and so I detoured to return. Super disappointed. We ended up trashing our food bc I didn't feel.safe eating a Gyro with cold meat

Bill W.

Yelp
Sensational! Flavor! I had the spinach pie, added small salad and lentil soup. All were great! My wife had a salad with chicken and she loves it. They offer lots of gluten free choices and that's great for her. The food came out fast hot and delicious! I see why they have at least a 4 star average review. Next time we will have some of the deli case items!

Rita P.

Yelp
We were a bit disappointed with Papouli!! DO NOT ORDER TGE PASTISIO!! My god they should be ashamed of themselves for serving such a dried up tasteless mess. We have some great pastisio in restaurants and homemade and this was just THE WORST. Truly they should take it OFF THEIR MENU! Ugh we hate getting crappy food especially when we were anticipating something delicious. I spoke to the young man up front and he asked if we wanted a refund which was nice but too late to order something else as I had my food. My YIRO was good .. not great but good enough to fill the void. Never again. Three stars is pushing it.

Charles D.

Yelp
Pretty ding dang good! If you like horseradish, be sure to get your gyro or anything else with their house made mustard sauce. It's the bee's knees! The gyro was good and of generous portion without being ridiculously difficult to eat. Fries were okay; the medium thick kind. The lentil soup was okay. Service was good, decor was very nice, the restaurant and bathroom were very clean.

Mercedes H.

Yelp
First let's start with customer service... I give 5 stars, I'm unsure of the gentleman's name at the front counter but he was very helpful and gave great selections. I ordered the traditional Gyro, I upgraded the fries with the feta and herbs, I also ordered the small side salad. I could not finish the gyro it was a great size and the taste and texture were great. The fries on the other hand as soon as I checked my bag they were cold which kinda was a bummer and I really didn't want to go back inside for more so I stuck with them. They were good but I'm sure they would be great if they were hot. I haven't tried the salad I'm saving it for my dinner but it looks amazing. I stepped next door as my order was being prepared, when I came back within 5 minutes my order was ready. Quick service, will definitely come again and explore the menu!

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Yum! I had the classic gyro with Greek fries and it was really good!

Matt P.

Yelp
Great dinner. Clean, friendly, quick and outstanding food. Had hummus for starter. Pita was soft and great flavor. Hummus was smooth, not too thick and really good. Lamb bifteki was really nice. Flavorful lamb and perfectly cooked with melted feta inside. Passing through Macon. Will definitely come back on return trip.

Cooper B.

Yelp
The absolute best gyros you will ever eat. Plus, the feta dip is worth buying by the pound!

Dana B.

Yelp
I love to stop by whenever I'm in Macon for the Gyros and Greek Fries. Service is swift and friendly!

Kaylyn L.

Yelp
In our travels south we happened upon this gem as we got off the interstate to gas up. What a gem!! All our senses came alive just seeing the display of dishes that were beautifully presented in the food case. We decided to try some things even though it was too early for dinner. The lentil soup, lentil bites, and the spanakopita was amazing! This is one of the best Mediterranean cafes I've come across. Unfortunately, we went another route going back north so we couldn't give it another try but will keep this restaurant in my phone!

Mitch-Mele W.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food was so good and the portions were plentiful. Definitely recommend.

Jim K.

Yelp
Everything from the meats, salads, hummus, olives, bread, baba ganoush, to the homemade hot sauce is well done and made with pride. Highly recommend!

Clair J.

Yelp
Stopped in while traveling after we simply couldn't have any more fast food chains. This popped up as highly rated on Google for the area. I'm so glad we did! Stopped in at an odd time so they made everything fresh. We loved everything we got: falafel, chicken gyro, hummus, Greek fries. And bonus! They brew fresh Luzianne tea! None of that yucky Brisk! Yum! Highly recommend this place!

Christina P.

Yelp
OMG Delicious Greek/Mediterranean food! The hummus is obviously homemade and maybe the best I've ever had! I was just passing through the area but I will stop here every time I come through.

Christopher Z.

Yelp
Had a gyro and Greek salad side. $13 The gyro was lacking meat especially considering the price paid. The meat was gray and flaccid, undercooked. The salad was very small- mostly iceberg, one slice of tomato, one olive, one pepperocini, and a teaspoon of feta. Simply way too expensive. Will not return.

Christina B.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place since it's the only Mediterranean restaurant (that I know of) in the area. We had gyros and Greek potatoes. The Greek potatoes are NOT Greek potatoes. They are French fries covered in feta, oregano and crushed red pepper and they were hard to eat and honestly just not that good. We paid $1.00 extra each for disappointing French fries. The gyro was good however the tzakazi sauce was all in the back end of the gyro wrap. I didn't think there was any on mine so I asked for more and was charged $1.06 for a tiny container. This did not make me happy at all. It was only when I got to the end of my sandwich that I found it all in the bottom. I'd eat there again but I'd have to unwrap the gyro and spread the sauce throughout the sandwich.

Katrine L.

Yelp
i just ate there 9-11-23, everyone in this place from the cooks to the guy at the counter to the people in back of the store need to be slapped!!!!! a good firm tap on the cheek like grandma would do!!! this food was soooooo good! words are not enough to explain! best place ive eaten in a very long time! i had the lamb bifteki, my husband had to stop me from going back and getting another one. i will be back definitely probably more then i should! thank you all for a wonderful dinner, i will sleep like a baby tonight. i will absolutely be telling coworkers, friends and family about this place. looking forward to coming back. man this food was amazing!!!!!

Allen B.

Yelp
Food is good, desserts are good, atmosphere is a bit off putting but ok, small. Average all around.

Greg C.

Yelp
The food was great - it is like a deli - but all were well prepared. We have enjoyed Greek food I Chicago, New York and other cities and were pleasantly surprised to find this little place in Macon, GA

Chin L.

Yelp
Popouli's is a small Mediterranean restaurant in Macon area. Food is okay. Good customer service. Expected a little more flavor out of the Lamb Bifteki I ordered.

Laurie D.

Yelp
Papouli's has the best food this side of Greektown in Detroit. Loved the Baba Ghanoush, Dolmas, the hot, fresh pita bread, Tabouli salad Greek salad, hummus, lentil soup, and spinach pie. It is vegetarian friendly. Delicious!

Polina W.

Yelp
Great Gyros served quickly and hot! After getting an oil change, I popped Yelp open and took a quick look. This place was nearby and not your typical fast food chain. We were greeted quickly, order placed quickly and we loved the meal! Too bad we don't live or work close to here.

Butch S.

Yelp
Absolutely one of the best Greek food restaurants in Macon. Out of this world gyros and Greek salads.

Patti A.

Yelp
Their food is fresh and delicious, love the pastries. The only problem is parking, there is not a lot of parking for all those stores.

Shelby C.

Yelp
The hummus is perfect! The atmosphere feels authentic and cozy. We will definitely make this a go-to spot for lunch/dinner.

Hope C.

Yelp
Quick find on a road trip that did not disappoint. Great food and staff. We will stop by again in the future. Chicken Souvlaki Plate and Gyro Plate were both amazing.

Katelyn V.

Yelp
Tasty, cheap and great portion. I ordered takeout so not sure on service but they were quick and convenient

Rawan J.

Yelp
I have to have papoulis at least once of twice a week! Everything on the menu is delicious! I just wish the curly fries would make a comebacks

Kim F.

Yelp
If I could give it a zero I would. The absolute worst customer service!!!!!! Owners - please rehire manager as she had NO clue what I was complaining about and just wanted to keep arguing. She told me I ordered a "shaved chicken gyro" which is fine. Certainly did! Was expecting shaved chicken not shaved skin. My dog wouldn't even eat it. Her attitude sucked as much as your food. Not trying to be a jerk here but she was awful. Customer service at zero finest and If she was an employee of mine if fire her ass. (Also a GM in Florida for a huge company. Unreal.

Jordan J.

Yelp
Excellent Mediterranean food. Papouli's is very authentic. The food here is prepared well and the flavors are robust. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki plate with the base being Greek style fries. The Chicken was amazing and cooked thoroughly, but still juicy and tender. The meal came with tatziki, tabouleh (if I'm not mistaken), a pita, and the fries. The fries were cooked well and seasoned well with an fresh herbal blend, then topped with a drizzle of oil and feta cheese. Everything went together amazingly and the flavors blended together well. This is definitely a must try, and will not let you down if in need of authentic ( and quick, might I add) Greek/ Mediterranean food 5/5

Michal G.

Yelp
Really good food. Very fresh. Highly recommended. The soups were excellent and don't forget their delicious pastries! Can't wait to come back.

Amy M.

Yelp
Really excellent fresh Greek food including baklava. You can get the gyro in lamb/beef or chicken. The Greek salad is pucker-worthy. Husband loves the lentil soup. The baklava- such a treat.
