Where to Eat the Best Salads in Houston | Eater Houston

"A cobb salad that can put most to shame, Pappadeux (and Pappas Seafood House restaurants) pile high mixed greens topping them with its signature honey bacon, red onion, blue cheese, egg, hearty slices of avocado, and baby tomatoes — with your choice of dressing. Add both shrimp and crab, and be prepared to ask for a box. This salad is massive. Insider tip: Add an extra crunch to your salad by asking for your shrimp fried." - Katie Holtman

Great atmosphere!! The views are great but the food is very average for the price! My server was very sweet and made the experience wonderful but it did take 30 minutes to get drinks to the table bc the bar was backed up.. I got the gator bites they took forever to come out and were almost cold we did end up getting them, we also got one other dish and ended up going elsewhere, will be back on a slower day to give it another chance.

I got the spicy grouper topped with shrimp and lump crab, paired with a French 75 to drink. PHENOMENAL!! My rank for food and experience was 9.5/10. Ashton was our server and he made sure we were taken care of from the time we sat down to the time we left. And he did everything with a smile. I give .5 off for too much spinach in the crab and shrimp fondeaux we had for appetizer. That’s just my preference. It was still delicious.

The atmosphere was great! Spacious and a great view in downtown. We went during prime time on a Saturday evening. So the service was lacking and the food was average for the price. The drinks weren’t bad through.

In an unexpected visit, decided to simply walk in after work. From outside the colors sift through the glass panes. Walking in, smiles welcome you. I was unfortunately looking for a quick bite, a sandwich or burger perhaps. I did not look at online menu before walking in, just very sporadic. Well, I settled for a crab dip, which was enough to satisfy my dinner requirements. The dip was excellent with a subtle heat, typical of creole cuisine…

A Fantastic Dining Experience at Pappadeaux Houston! My recent visit to Pappadeaux was nothing short of exceptional. We chose to dine outside to enjoy the perfect weather and do some people watching, which made the experience even more enjoyable. From the moment we stepped in, the atmosphere was lively and inviting. Our waiter, Sean B., truly went above and beyond — he was prompt, friendly, and had such a fun personality that it made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Sean’s food recommendations were spot on! We started with the honey-glazed gator bites, which were crispy, flavorful, and a true taste of the Gulf Coast. For our main course, we tried the crawfish étouffée, a rich and savory dish that perfectly captured the essence of authentic Cajun cuisine. To top it all off, we shared a slice of key lime pie — tangy, sweet, and the perfect ending to our meal. We complemented everything with a crisp glass of Pinot Grigio, which paired beautifully with the flavors of the seafood. Overall, Pappadeaux in Houston offers a fantastic dining experience with great food, a fun atmosphere, and attentive service. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious Cajun and seafood cuisine — and be sure to ask for Sean B. for an extra special touch!

Had an amazing experience as always eating at Pappadeaux. I really miss this place and wish we had it in the DC area. Came back for my usual of crawfish etouffee and gumbo. They never miss! I also tried out the Don Julio 1942 Margarita. It was pricy but soo yummy! 😋

Texas redfish and red beans and rice took me to the moon! And if you let adventurous add a yummy cocktail and strawberry cheesecake. Love, luv, LOVE the atmosphere and top notch service. If you’re in Houston it’s a must! p.s. Jr & Tiara deserves a raise and/or a promotion. Service was superb and if you’re lucky enough you’ll get to interact with them too!

We ordered the Pappadeux platter, which was very good, enough for three people to share. We also added a fried calamari starter and a truly enormous Greek salad. Everything was well served, except for the gin and tonic I ordered, which arrived late and was too strong.

Yelp
Out of a scale of 1-10 I give it a 5. The sauce made the dish but the spinach did not hit the spot. The fish had a very nice texture and combined with the sauce made it really good. Service was excellent but the drinks took a bit to get to us. But was a very busy night so I understand. The ambiance was ok but I kinda tuned everything out and focused on my family and friends.

Yelp
For those Cajun food lovers out there this is the place! Located directly across the street from the Hilton Americas hotel this place has a large seating capacity and an extensive menu of Cajun favorites. Wait staff greeted us warmly and we were seated before the place got full. Had some gator for appetizer and it was delicious. Had the Cajun seafood linguine and was full of prawns , andouille, sausage, and crawfish. Just the right amount of spice and it was incredible. For dessert, I had the banana pudding with a warm sugar cookie. They were served in ball jar, mugs, and the bottom consisted of crumbled up cookies. What a great way to end a fantastic meal. Weight staff was very accommodating and stayed on top of things throughout the meal. Place had a very cool vibe to it and I highly recommend this.

Yelp
Hmmm, this is a hard review rating y'all. Ok, so I'm staged downtown waiting on Chef's as I'm their transportation for the week, I wanted something light to eat. I knew Pappadeaux wasn't too far and a bowl of gumbo, bread and butter sounded good to me and my taste buds dittoed that motion. Houstonians and "bus drivers" like myself know for sure Pappadeaux from Houston, Tx to Beaumont, Tx have a lunch menu AND famous for offering french bread and butter. As a side note, I'll eat on the bread and butter to save on spending money on an appetizer (you too don't play) AND again it's lunchtime people like to eat on a budget. Ok, so I'm seated and handed a menu. I'm looking at the menu and I see an increase in prices, I look quickly on the table for a short menu and still didn't see the lunch menu. I ask the greeter for the lunch menu and she tells me I have "the menu". Looking dignified and cute I smile and "get" what she's saying. My waitress comes over and introduces herself, Mercedes takes my drink order as I tell her I'll take my bread for now. Mercedes tells me as sincere as she could THEY DON'T offer the complimentary french bread and butter at this location anymore. I smile as not to come off like I can't afford to eat at Pappadeaux or stereotypical, so I ask about lunch specials. Mercedes again, with an embarrassing look not for herself but as a representative of Pappadeaux. She tells me she'll be right back, she was fully aware I needed time to digest what I was experiencing, told and decide how I wanted to proceed. She comes back with my strawberry lemonade with xtra strawberries (how she knew I liked xtra strawberries? Because she knows her people/job, that's how. I ordered the House Salad with no beacon, xtra croutons, no onions. I couldn't decide on what to eat because I came in for something specific now I had to rethink things. My lunch time was limited, no bread so now me, my stomach, mind, wallet and taste buds was talking things over. Look y'all, judge me all you want I'm not alone with my thinking :) I'm a real individual and I just say what others think to themselves. Mercedes returns again and I order the seafood gumbo and before I could say NO ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE, she says no meat right. THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT, a waitress who knows her audience/job as she's expected to "know". I smile then she asks, if I wanted my rice on the side I said yes because WE/PEOPLE try to pull one over on the kitchen. I believe Mercedes knew it because she stated "I got you", that's slang for people do it all the time. My gumbo arrives and the life must have drained out of my face when I saw the 2 teaspoon of rice that accompanied the gumbo in the separate bowl. I promise on everything, I bursted out laughing and snorted and so did Mercedes, enough of the small talk between us. Bread is need to slop up the gumbo rue and rice is included with every bite..da *^#% is going on around here I thought to myself? Mercedes said "Girl, do you want a side of rise it's only .60 cents". Before those trigger words had a chance to register she said "It's on the house". She brings me back the rice and so our conversation began. Mercedes explained to me this particular Pappadeaux slowly did away with so much after Covid, specifically the complimentary french bread and butter, a rise in prices, they did away with the lunch menu and our favorite dishes. WHY I exclaimed, she pointed to the supervisor over the GM who was there at that time and said it was a way to bounce back after loosing profits due to the pandemic. As a fan of Pappadeaux, doing away with what they're known for is NOT acceptable, however being that its the downtown location, visitors to our city wouldn't know the difference is all that made sense to me. I try to understand how business people think and I read a lot so I get it. While I was eating my girl brought me garlic bread also on the house asking me to please understand and as encouragement to please come back and visit. I couldn't do anything but smile me, myself and I was please and decided not to have a talk with Mr. Boss Man until I noticed something on my ticket. I had already pulled out cash for her tip but was flabbergasted at what Pappadeaux thought of their waitstaff and bussers efforts! Any other time, I complain about starting their tip at 22% but Pappadeaux raised their prices, located in Houston's downtown ACROSS from George R, Brown Convention Center, 2 blocks from Minute Maid Park and a famous 5 star Hotel and they had the nerve to start the suggested tipping at...?! Mercedes had to hold me back, I was ready to let Mister have a piece of my mind (j/k) :)) Anywho, my seafood gumbo, house salad, garlic bread and strawberry lemonade was exactly prepared in the famous Pappadeaux way! Would I return, I DON'T KNOW... only if I had to and support my girl Mercedes!

Yelp
I'm in Houston for a conference and this was across the street from the hotel. When we walked in we didn't have to wait for a table. The service was fast, our waiter was very knowledgeable about all the food and drink questions what we had. The seafood gumbo was everything!!! I wish asked for a bowl instead of the cup of seafood gumbo. It was very good and the red beans and rice. The set up of the place was very nice, when I come back to Houston I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I have been to Pappadox (as we call it) many of times in several states, this was a different experience here. The place was semi crowded, we got on the wait list. On of the staff offered to take out drink order while we waited, very nice of them. We were seated in 15 minutes, immediately after our drinks arrived to our table. The Patron Margarita was marvelous. The waitstaff brought the warm bread, lightly buttered, em hmm, tasty. It was a large group of us (12) but the waitstaff was a professional, cool, calm and answered everyone's question. Provided some recommendations for starters, entrees and desserts. The fried shrimp and catfish was De-lish. After we all finished up and prepared to pay, we were offered suggestions of things to do and see in Houston by the staff. Very helpful. I really enjoyed the meal and the experience

Yelp
Definitely a must visit if you are in Houston! I was visiting for the weekends during really wanted some Cajun seafood. My friend highly recommended this place so we skipped in here on a Sunday funday. The restaurant is large and we had no issue getting quickly sat by the staff. It was a Sunday so there were multiple groups of people with their families enjoying the weekend. For food, my friend and I shared the seafood platter. The portion size was so big that even with us splitting it, we still could not finish all the food on our plates. Everything was delicious and fried to perfection. The only con was our server who was not attentive and seemed bothered when we asked for assistance for stuff we should have had. Overall though, I will definitely be coming back to try something new!

Yelp
Good service and good food. The watermelon mint lemonade was thirst quenching and really good (although it would have been better if 3/4 of it wasn't ice). My 1 star rating is because I paid with my credit card and when I received the bill back, I didn't realize until the next day that I didn't receive the credit card back. I put the paper copies into my wallet and never got the card back and didn't pay attention until later. When I went back the next day, they mentioned they couldn't find my credit card and this morning someone tried to put a charge on the card (luckily I already froze it).

Yelp
Tasty seafood served by a charming waiter. Must try is the watermelon mint lemonade so refreshing.

Yelp
Food was very good and fresh. I forgot the drink I ordered but it was very tasty. The service was great as well. A big difference from the last time I came about a year ago. Great ambiance soulful music as well.

Yelp
Walked over and was greeted and allowed to sit at the bar immediately. The seater and bartender were sweet and I would give 5 stars to them alone. The restaurant appeared clean and the bar was nice. When it came to the food it came out quickly but was very bland for the most part. The spinach was tasty. The shrimp was perfectly cooked but the coating had no flavor so you had to dip it in a sauce. Same went for the catfish. The beer was refreshing and reasonably priced.

Yelp
After the car show we popped in for a quick bite but boy let me tell you... It. Was. Packed. They sat us at a tiny little table but our waitress was so kind and took very good care of us! We ordered the Lost Island (very good.. got me feeling a little buzzed) and the Swamp Thing (the first one was awful but we got it remade and it was so much better) We also got the fried calamari (delicious) I loved the fried artichoke pieces in it! We ended with the Crispy Salmon and Jumbo Crab (nothing jumbo about it) The flavors were on point! For the best bite I suggest a little bit of noodles dipped in sauce then a bit of the salmon and crab! So yummy! I definitely wished there was more crab only like 3 little pieces.... For being hella packed it was still a great experience!

Yelp
I been waiting to come back to Houston to try Pappadeaux. I remember my first experience being really amazing. I sat at the bar this time around. A young lady took care of me. I cannot remember her name but she was friendly. I ordered a guava spritzer, half dozen oysters, and crawfish étouffée. The guava spritzer was refreshing. The half dozen oysters took about 20 mins to come out. They pretty much stole the show and were huge. I loved the mignonette it was paired with. The crawfish etouffee was missing flavor and even though the portion was huge It was nothing like crawfish etouffee from Nola. I was disappointed esp for the price point of $33. I even left the leftovers.

Yelp
The restaurant was clean inside and the service was excellent. There is a parking garage across the street. Atmosphere is fun. I plan on going back and would recommend this if you enjoy a seafood restaurant .

Yelp
As a Floridian I always hear how good this place is so of course I had to stop by and see if it overhyped and honestly ... it wasn't ! I enjoyed everything ! Service was good, restaurant was packed! And it was a lot to look at. My family and I truly enjoyed the experience!

Yelp
This Downtown Houston Pappadeaux location is absolutely amazing. The restaurant has many lights, a bar, and is clean and comfortable. The service here is highly commendable. The waiters are kind and attentive. They ensure that you are content and will take care of any concerns you might have right away. Overall this restaurant makes certain that you have an enjoyable experience every time! FOOD REVIEW: Andouille Sausage and Seafood Gumbo (5/5): the gumbo base was made perfectly, the andouille sausage and seafood was so tasty. Blackened Catfish (5/5): catfish was seasoned perfectly and balanced well with the rice and beans. Pasta Mardi Gras (5/5): is extremely tasty, well prepared, shrimp, sausage, and crawfish is pared well with the pasta.

Yelp
Pappadeaux is always just ok regardless of the location. The ambiance and service is good, but the food options are limited, pricey, and the drinks are a bit on the weak side, unfortunately. I would recommend the establishment for a work happy hour.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a small meal before heading to a concert at the Toyota Center. Ordered a cup of shrimp gumbo with rice on the side (this is key). Otherwise, they'll add the rice in your gumbo and you'll get less of this yummy goodness. I usually get this with a Caesar salad; however, this particular Pappadeaux's does NOT offer Caesar salad. What?! Hence, the 4 stars. I couldn't believe it and was disappointed. I ended up ordering the House Salad with vinaigrette. Received my order, but instead of the vinaigrette, I was given honey mustard. I was too tired to ask to give me the correct dressing. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I had ordered. The gumbo was delicious, as always. The server was nice and polite. Visited the bathroom. Was decent until I noticed water coming up from the floor and the bathroom floor was getting flooded. Not sure what that was all about.

Yelp
I made reservations online prior to dining here. When we first got into the area we couldn't find any street parking. The restaurant advised us there was a parking structure in the area that we could park in & they would validate it. This location appeared to be attached to a shopping center and was not very spacious. Once we got inside we were taken to our seats. Our server was friendly but not overly attentive. We checked out the menu online prior to dining here and were disappointed to learn that this location only has a limited menu so some of the items that we wanted were not served here. I ended up ordering the Salmon Alexander with a side of dirty rice. The rice had a nice kick and was flavorful. The salmon was topped with shrimp, crawfish, and scallops. It was a nice portion and i had leftovers to take with me. Overall the food was good. If I came back to this restaurant I would go to another location that has the full menu available.

Yelp
Chain restaurant in Houston. Pretty good fried shrimp. Huge crab cake was delicious and almost no filling. Hubbys blackened catfish was huge. Red beans and rice was amazing. Server very friendly and service was quick. Restaurant was not too noisy. Only wish there was fried okra.

Yelp
I love this spot. Service is great. Food is great. Vibes and location are 2 thumbs up. Will visit again.
google avatar

Georgia L.

Yelp
The food was exceptional as usual. You just cannot go wrong with any of the Pappa's chain. Adna, our server was friendly, attentive, and had a great grasp of the menu to make excellent suggestions. I spilled my drink, and it was cleaned up immediately, and the manager made me a new drink--it was so special. Oh, I forgot to mention it was my birthday--I felt so special when I got my birthday celebration dessert. This location is not the same Pappadeaux vibes as all the others outside of a conference zone; it was more profesional than family-like feel--still a good vibe, just different. Thank you Pappadeaux for making my birthday special!

Yelp
There's a whole bunch of Pappadeaux's around the Houston area. It's right in the heart of the central business district or their downtown. It's pretty big and beautiful from the outside with all the windows and lights. But one thing you really need to know, though, is that the menu is extremely limited. And being in the downtown area, prices are more inflated. For example, a drink from the Pappadeaux 10 miles away is 3-6 bucks cheaper, as well as the appetizers and entrees. Yes, customer service was nice. Our apps came out quickly. But because of the limited menu, we had to go to another Pappadeaux 10 miles away to finish our dinner, thus minus the one star. We ordered their gator nuggets as well as cheese bites (their version of cheese sticks), as well as a grand Hennessy drink. Gator nuggets were fried well. Cooked well. The sauce had some heat to it. I do wish the cheese in the cheese bites were ok. Cheese wasn't as melty as I would've liked. Marinera sauce was ok. Grand Hennessy drink was good. Smooth, definitely had a good amount of alcohol in it. It was refreshing and good! But we did have to go to the other Pappadeauxs, though, after to finish our dinner. So it was ok....
google avatar

TaShane O.

Yelp
Go to any other Pappadeaux except this one. The menu is INSANELY limited making it hard to get any relatively decent meal at a decent price. I spent $30 on a bowl of mid gumbo and a side salad during lunch. Too many other great options around than to go broke eating here. I hope they read this and bring on more options on this menu.
google avatar

Courtney K.

Yelp
Stopped in while in downtown for an event. While they have a limited menu, we didn't even miss it with how awesome our service was. Chrissy helped us out today and she was so sweet and welcoming! The food was great, the staff was great and we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Teresa W.

Yelp
The portions are large and very tasty. The waitress was very nice and had recommendations on what was very popular according to taste. I had the catfish, french fries and shrimp very good. Very tasty.
google avatar

Kassidy D.

Yelp
Great service, good seafood. I especially enjoyed the crab and spinach dip and the shrimp cocktail. Would visit this location again if I was in the area.
google avatar

Nancyrae S.

Yelp
The service is the only positive thing about this location - attentive, accommodating and patient with a large group. Attended after a conference at GRB - no happy hour prices, drinks were meh, food was basic chain restaurant quality.
google avatar

Swaraj K.

Yelp
Visited Pappadeaux while in Houston at the George R Brown convention center, they have true seafood options we only went there to eat some evening appetizers, two dishes we tried is the Alligator which pretty much tasted like chicken, is that really alligator meat ?, and the other was shrimp and crawfish fondue Our food came on time but the waitress was no where to be seen after our food was served we had to wait a bit to get a refill on our water and to get our check. The place was pretty cool and had a Texas vibe. The prices seem to be too high, I am from out of state and wanted to try this restaurant may be the locals like these high prices I don't know. But I feel the prices should be half of they have at this location. Food was tasty must try.
google avatar

Stefanie F.

Yelp
We had reservations and was escorted to sit in the bar area-weird. So we decided to wait for a regular table instead of high-top bar seating. Our waiter helped us decide which dish to pick from and we actually combined to different entrees. This was actually the best redfish dish I have ever eaten!! Hostess 1 stars- didn't appreciate being placed in the bar area with a reservation. Food 5 stars. Waiter 5 stars.
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
Oh wow! I haven't had good quality food like this in a minute. The food was absolutely delish. I got the Orleans platter and it was super good and fresh. Our server Catherine was exceptional and this location is the perfect place to enjoy a good and relaxing ambiance outdoors. This restaurant sits comfortably in the gorgeous downtown Houston area, across from the Hilton. There is a parking garage and Pappadeaux's will validate your ticket for up to two hours. Not bad eh? There is a huge convention center down the street and it appears to be a very good walkable area. The outdoor seating area is elegantly designed with gorgeous tree shrubs and flowerbeds. The dining tables are spacious enough for large or small groups. There are also plenty of patio sofas and chairs for your outdoor enjoyment as well. We sat indoors and there was a lot of noise, not my fancy but if that's your thang, then you'll be right at home. I wanted to take pics of the place but there were so many people I didn't want folks to think I was being weird by snapping photos around them lol. Overall, each guest in our party loved the food and the atmosphere and they thanked me for the recommendation and you will too!
google avatar

Laci G.

Yelp
Amazing fresh oysters as always! I ate at the bar and my drink was the voodoo... so refreshing and delicious. It wasn't busy until after 5pm. Nice vibe. I got the seafood sausage gumbo to go and it was so delicious the next day!!!

Bonnie B.

Yelp
As a Cajun from southwest Louisiana I cannot recommend this place. We've given it several shots but come away paying too much for lackluster seafood. Even the red beans and rice was awful & way too runny. The only thang awesome there was the French bread, which was perfect, and the Mardi Gras cheesecake which was beyond spectacular!! Sadly, it is only offered at Mardi Gras & is brought in from an outside bakery. The service was great but terribly slow for a Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere was good, but again, not what a Cajun restaurant feels like at all. Take a trip folks; Louisiana is just an hour & a half eastward!!
google avatar

Zory S.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the menu is very limited compared to other restaurants I've been to in other cities. We attempted to start with the crab/spinach dip, but they were out of it. Won't fault them for that considering we did show up close to closing. The ladies at the next table raved about it though. I had the crab cake which was great and the gumbo which was solid. Had a peach sidecar to drink and it was sweet and light on liquor. Our server was really nice.
google avatar

Julie H.

Yelp
As visitors to Houston from Los Angeles, Pappadeaux was our first stop for dinner. The calamari was great, and the crab spinach dip was off the chain!!! Omgoodness! My husband loved the gumbo. I tonight the shrimp and chicken Cajun tenderloins were just okay. Our server was the best and he got a huge tip!
google avatar

Jamaya P.

Yelp
I am in Houston for my sorority convention and I love how they had a drink named 1922, just for us. The drink was great! My crab and spinach dip was a little salty and soupy but it was tasty. Ashton was a fantastic and friendly server! Service was quick (only because I came after rush hour)
google avatar

Fetima W.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night with a reservation for a party of 4. It is very spacious on the inside and Pappadeaux has given me chill vibes each visit. We were disappointed to find out the menu was condensed and did not offer as many options as we had hoped for. Our waitress was great but disappeared and we waited a while to request our check. In her defense, she was working a lot of tables that evening. The menu prices reflect a bit higher considering you are in downtown Houston Texas. Drinks from the bar averaged $15 each and entrees $25-$40+. My salmon was cooked well but the shrimp was overly seasoned and overly cooked cooked. My dirty rice did not taste fresh.
google avatar

Yelp
My family and I went to this restaurant for dinner. The menu provides a nice variety of food mainly seafood of course. The food and drinks we ordered were delicious -- rainbow trout, grouper, red snapper, and fried shrimp. It was plentiful; we all had a doggie bag, and great value. The seafood was fresh not frozen. It is located next to the convention center downtown. It is a nice size restaurant. Good for family and friend dinners, date night, and kid friendly. Our waiter was awesome, knowledgeable, and attentive. I recommend going to this restaurant when in the area.
google avatar

Amber J.

Yelp
This location is located in downtown Houston. As a result, parking is at a nearby garage. The restaurant will validate your ticket for free parking. The food lacked taste and was very overpriced. The shrimp lacked taste and reminded me of frozen shrimp from the grocery store. The chicken tenders were only good with dipping sauce. I was highly disappointed in the food overall. Even though the food was sub par our waitress was friendly and did a great job. The restaurant was clean with a nice vibe.
google avatar

Kavi B.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly service, with a casual restaurant ambiance. I ordered the seafood gumbo and a salad. Portion sizes were good.

Shawn D.

Yelp
I had Catfish with cold fries and very poor service. The waiter was terrible! He was slow and did not respond to all of our requests. I would absolutely not recommend this place!!
google avatar

Marcus M.

Yelp
I enjoyed my trips to this restaurant while I was in Houston for a conference back in July. I went two or three times, and each time the servers were very kind and very charming. I was not thrilled about the prices, I will admit. However, we were downtown and in the convention district and I more or less assumed the prices had a lot to do with location. Still, though, it did seem like high price points for food and especially for drinks. I did appreciate the beer list (I'm a beer guy, we know this already) and the selection of liquors. I'd definitely go back to this place, and I look forward to seeing how it is in other cities. Stop in if you haven't-- you will be blessed!
google avatar

Kim F.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place and it did not disappoint! We sat at the bar. The service was ok and it was a vibe. Got to meet people but the food was amazing! Better than expected. Crab cakes are the real deal! The best I've had.

Yelp
My proud Texan friend brought me here because eating at a Pappas is necessary apparently. For those who've never heard of Pappas, there are a variety of different style restaurants and Pappadeaux is known for their seafood and Louisiana-style food. We started off with the crispy alligator served with a tasty creole sauce. It's a must-order. Then we had the Louisiana gumbo with shrimp, which wasn't the most flavorful but it was okay. Then we had the Texas redfish pontchartrain... Pan-grilled redfish, lump crab, and shrimp in a brown-butter wine sauce served with spinach. It was my first time having redfish, and I was shocked because I wasn't expecting this from a chain. I needed more of that brown-butter wine sauce because that was delicious.

Yelp
I was in Houston with a group of people for a conference. We went to this place 3 times in 4 days because we liked it so much. I would give it a 5 except drink service was so damn slow and they were out of a beer or wine every time we went. The food was very good and the staff was friendly. We got raw oysters each visit, they were top notch. We tried several different dishes and I would recommend all.

Yelp
Love the food here. Service is consistent and I highly recommend their fondue! But really everything on the menu is delicious.

Yelp
This was my first at the Downtown location I never knew it existed and was so close to my previous home. The menu is not as large as the other locations but they do have some of my favorites on the menu. I ordered the -louisiana- Andouille Sausage & Seafood Gumbo and I must say it was delicious I usually order the seafood gumbo but this one here is now my favorite. I also ordered the crawfish platter which consists of crawfish etouffee with dirty rice and fried crawfish tails. I got the white rice instead and as always it was scrumptious more than enough to eat. I also ordered the red blood spritz to drink. My husband ordered the shrimp and catfish fillets and he enjoyed every bite of it. The service was A1 our waiter was always checking in with us to make sure we were good, And the Ambience was amazing for a Sunday lunch date the view I'm sure is beautiful at night. I sure wish I would have known about this spot before moving from downtown but now I know and I can definitely see myself driving that way for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
The place is pretty decent. Ambiance is clean, You can dress up or down basically. They took a bit long for our drinks idk why. Some inconvenience the manager let us know! Main entree arrived fast. And it was okay. Not the best just okay. A three star becuse the food wasn't all that.

Yelp
6/27/2022 around 7PM I made a reservation here for a solo dinner. Upon entering, the hostess was pleasant, welcoming, and greeted me. I decided to dine in at the bar since there was room. First time at Pappadeaux. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. I ordered a salad, crab dip, and the blackened catfish. Everything was delicious. The dip was loaded with equal parts crab meat, spinach, and cheese, and I could taste the flavors without anything being too overpowering. The salad was fresh with crunchy crisp lettuce. The catfish and red beans, and rice were loaded with so much flavor and the right amount of spiciness. I loved all of it, and I had plenty left over to take with me back to my hotel. The service was perfect. The price and the food quality aligned. I can't wait to visit another location. I wish Pappadeaux would come to North Carolina. Everything was a 5 out of 5. One of the best dining and food experiences while in Houston. Shout out to the bartender who served me. I'm sorry, I don't remember his name, but he was awesome!

Yelp
We arrived at the restaurant about five minutes prior to our reservation time and got seated right away in the upstairs portion of the restaurant in about 20 minutes, a waiter came to us and asked if we've been served yet and we stated no as we had no waters or anything else like that at our table. He Brought us menus and about 10 minutes later came back and took our drink order. We ordered some drinks and about 45 minutes into our visit received our cocktails. We were about an hour into visit before he took our order for our appetizers and didn't get our food until about an hour and 30 minutes and into our visit Overall it just didn't seem like the table that we were sitting at was assigned to any particular waiter. We ordered the redfish with lump crab meat, and while the redfish was very good there was only three small pieces of crab on the dish, so that was highly disappointing as well. Then when we are ready to leave after we had given the waiter our check, we waited for an additional 15 to 20 minutes to receive the check back from him. Overall, the environment and the food that we did get was nice. The service was just extremely slow and poor like we were forgotten table.
