An oldie but goodie is what Pappas BBQ is to me. I was leaving the medical center in the evening around 5 and knew 610 traffic would be a pain, so I stopped here since I had a coupon and it would be on my way towards home.
The parking lot was pretty full for a weekday, and inside, it was busy. The dining line was actually shorter than the take out line. I was attempted to just order from take out because I knew I wouldn't eat all my food, but there was no line in the dine in area, so there I went.
On my last visit to Pappas, the watermelon lemonade was great. This visit it was sour, and I poured it out immediately from my cup. Unfortunately, there were no more cups with ice, so I flagged down one of the crew members who grabbed a styrofoam cup and filled it with ice. It was extremely nice of him to do because who doesn't like to take a cup of soda home for the road - well, at least soda that isn't flat. I ended up going to the other soda fountain and getting my drink because the colas at the dining area fountain were flat. In fact, I think the same thing happened last year when I was here. Go figure.
I had in mind two meals to choose from, but getting served from the dining area allowed me to see that my choice to have a meal with sides would not be a great idea. The mac n cheese looked soupy, and the dirty rice looked dry. Opted instead to get a two meat plate and sub for the baked potato. It did cost me more, but I really wanted sausage and brisket on my potato ( you ought to try it sometime and tell me what you think)! I ended up taking half my meat and placing it inside the potato box and making the rest into a sandwich. It was absolutely delicious! The Habanero bbq sauce was so satisfying and complimentary to the meat. The potato, however, needed butter. I dont know why, but the butter just collides with the cheese and sour cream and just makes a baked potato blessed. I actually didn't put my finger on what was missing until I was writing this review. so I didn't get a chance to ask for this condiment when I purchased my food. Additionally, I didn't eat my baked potato at the restauatent.I tasted one forkful and at it later on at home. I would definitely suggest butter for the baked potatoes, but for the cost to upcharge to a potato isn't done at our chain bbq places. I've had better bbq baked potatoes. I probably would go out of my way to get one from there versus cominv here, but for the convenience - yes, I would try again in those circumstances.
