Stopped in during a flight to Houston. The place has a great atmosphere and most of all, the portions are huge. My chef salad was big enough for two people. Plus they have a pickle bar. What more could one want?

GMS Air Aviation Ltd.

Google
Good place for BBQ Pulled pork, brisket and beef ribs. Country music creates nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. The beef ribs are expensive and don't have the meat suppose to be on the rib.

Google
Service is excellent. Food hot and fresh. Server is extra nice and listen to fine detail.. baby back ribs got much smaller and charging to much to pay that much. Nice clean & friendly staff!!

Google
I went here and got a two meat combo..... when I tell you the ribs were chewy and rubbery my god they were inedible, the mac and cheese was like soup and the way the rib was cut it had a sharp bone sticking out absolutely inedible..... do better

Google
Very nice meal! Pulled pork was home style ... tender, flavorful, and not overly processed. I appreciate that the pulled pork is not pre-sauced, letting you choose the type and amount of sauce. Love that they have a mustard based sauce option in addition to the usual sweet/hot reds. Beef sausage was great and used a finer grain grind, which I prefer. Righteous BBQ.

Google
I ordered thru door dash. Saled with no tomatoes and I paid for a extra dressing. The salad came with tomatoes and I didn’t get the extra dressing that I paid for.

Google
We ordered the family board, the ribs were delicious, the brisket was really good, the pulled pork was good. Mac and cheese was really good, the ranch beans were good but needed a little salt, and the cream corn was really good too. It was fast, reasonable price, and good.

Google
This place is a decent bbq spot. The meats were very tender however not seasoned that well. It needs more flavor so that you can eat the meat without having to put bbq sauce on it or by eating the meat without having added pickles and jalepenos. Nonetheless the food was good and decently priced. I love the fact that there is a little side bar area with pickles, onions, jalepenos and all the sauces to top off your plate. The two item combo is what I ordered with chicken breast and brisket. As mentioned, very tender and juicy but the chicken did not have a whole lot of flavor but the brisket had a nice crust on it. The plate comes with bread and two sides. I got the salad which counts as two sides but it’s a decent sized bowl of salad and you can add all the toppings like tomato, red onion, banana peppers, cucumber, cheese and your choice of dressing. The sweet yams are also SUPER GOOD!! Highly recommend the habanero bbq sauce!! The cantaloupe agua fresca is delicious and you can get refills! They also have watermelon agua Fresca which is also very tasty. Highly recommend those! Further, the overall aromatics cool, quiet, or at least at the time I was there. Country music playing and lowkey vibes. Enjoy!

Yelp
I have to say that for BBQ Salads, Pappa's has one of the best. The salads are HUGE!!! With a LOT a lettuce and such, there is a lot of meat as well. So good. They add an olive mix, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, and some other iteams, each in a different area of the plate for those that don't like all of their foods touching. Dreasing is your choice. Blue cheese is great on it. The BBQ sauce, there is a table with several different types. Sweet regular, spicy.... But I didn't see a simple regular BBQ flavor, they all had a flavor or spice level. The sweet regular is good tho. The brisket tamales, if the location has them, are super good! Pickle bar for all to peruse. No spears tho, only slices, onions, and such. The location is ok, it's in a sketchy area, but the parking lot is very well lit. This one is big inside. Lots of space to sit, even on the Saturday night that we visited. Seems clean. You walk up and place your order and wait for it to be made. Doesn't take long. Once seated, you're on your own. Everything else is self serve, there isn't anyone that comes around to help or give assistance.

Yelp
Came from the Heights side of town to this area because my husband wanted BBQ closer to home. Had I known the service was going to be so horrendous, I would have never stopped here as there were plenty of options in the Heights area. I went through the drive thru and was immediately advised that they were out of ribs, French fries and potatoes. With that being said, I ordered brisket, sausage beans and yams. The girl (Stephanie G) that took my order I could tell was being snarky with her response anytime I asked something pertaining to what they did have. When I pulled up, I saw a worker carry a tray full of ribs. (Probably to take home since they "were out") When she handed me my bag of food it was dripping with something I had no idea what. I could see they were cleaning in the background and asked what time they closed and she responded now. I then asked her what was dripping and she said oh it's just water. I had to ask for a napkin to clean it up as it was dripping all over my car and me. I then asked for bread, and Stephanie immediately stated they ran out of bread too. I was like really? She didn't even bother looking. How do you run out of bread at a major BBQ establishment. The manager (Alex Garza) behind her was laughing as though something was funny so I asked to speak to him and he then proceeded to explain he wasn't laughing at me. I then asked for corporate's number and then is when he apologized and stated that they do have bread. I told him I get it if y'all are ready to go home. I would have preferred you tell me that instead of taking my order and not providing what is needed, given I spent $18 for a plate. Another girl in the background said yeah. He had no control of his workers and seemed immune to their unprofessional manor. It's sad that this area is already limited to good restaurants and for a Pappa's chain to also go down in service is not very favorable.

Yelp
Consistently delicious brisket, all the years I've eaten here. Sliced brisket sandwich second to none, pairs well with all their barbecue sauce.

Yelp
One of my favorite activities to do when visiting Texas is to try another one of the ubiquitous barbecue joints. While Pappas Bar-B-Q wasn't my top choice, it was open for business on a Monday which was why I stopped here. The first thing I noticed was this place had a drive-thru service. It's certainly convenient, especially when the weather is unpleasant like during my rainy lunchtime visit. The inside was cavernous, similar to many of the country ranch setups in this state. A menu board hung on the left wall where you lined up to order your food cafeteria-style. The variety of meat offerings blew away anything that the barbeque restaurants in my local area had to offer. It makes me envious when I see the vast array of choices that were also priced reasonably for the huge portion sizes. I maximized the sampling by selecting the Mixed Platter. Beef, ham, sausage, pork rib, and pulled pork were the proteins. Two sides came with the platter. My picks were the Texas Dirty Rice and Yams. The brown cafeteria tray was soon loaded up and off I went. A long station with self-serve condiments was a mandatory stop before I sat down at a table. Three types of sauce (spicy habanero, sweet original, tangy mustard) were available in glass bottles. I know some parts of Texas frown upon the use of sauces, period. I agree for the most part, but I did pour some of the sweet original into a little cup. Pickles, jalapenos, and white onions were among the free items you could add. The pork rib was the star of the meats. It was seasoned with black pepper and had a nice chewiness. The beef brisket and pulled pork were very tender while the sausage contained some mild spiciness. The ham was ordinary and didn't stand out. The yams were coated with brown sugar/molasses. I used the two pieces of complimentary white bread to sop up the sweet glaze from the yams. I enjoyed this barbeque experience and gave it a rating that was one star higher than the average from the other reviews. Check out my collection of Texas BBQ places that I have visited over the years. :) https://www.yelp.com/collection/YCMUOe-XuntfCEj7Q0oteg?utm_content=Collections&utm_source=ashare

Yelp
A little hard to find depending on where you are coming from. They are tugged behind the gas station and we almost missed it. Got their beef trio with green beans and yam and everything was delicious! I'm from out of town (CA) and was told that Texas bbq is best (with no sauce) and indeed it was super tender and flavorful.

Yelp
Pulled up at Pappas bbq for a quick lunch because baby was asleep and it's raining so bad we have to get it Togo. The line was crazy long because everyone had the same idea. Chris please know I had nothing but great service since that one time

Tomas L.

Yelp
I have been coming to Pappas restaurants for over 40 years. Especially the Pappas BBQ. I began going to the one that was called Brisket House on Woodbridge by Dots restaurant. For the past few years I have been terribly disappointed. They have made changes that have ruined my experience there. Examples- 1. They stopped serving the best chili cheese fries that I have ever had. 2. They stopped having the hot BBQ sauce accessible to the people. 3. They removed the sour cream where you could help yourself. 4. They stopped having the Heinz 57 glass bottles. 5. They removed the spicy rice completely. My family and I used to visit 2-3 times a month now we hardly ever visit. I hope they go back to the way they had it. The prices are way too high for them to say that it is not a good business decision.

Dustin D.

Yelp
Looks like they cut down the size of the po boy by a good amount. This is what a $17 po boy looks like smh. Love pappas but if you're going to charge high prices, you can't randomly cut back on portions. Did the same thing with the baked potatoes, same price but randomly got a lot smaller than they used to be.

Yelp
I've been here many times and if you are dining in, it's a great spot. But I've ordered online and both times were a disaster. I went to pick up the first time and my order was short and incorrect. The second time I was given some one's else's 46 dollar order and my 126 dollar order was given to some one else and it took 1 hour and 25 minutes to recurve my order.. do not order online. I don't think they have the online orders and service to a science yet
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Paid for a catfish sandwich. Never got it. Couldn't find my receipt to verify that I didn't get it. They tried to look it up. They couldn't find it in the computer.
google avatar

Yelp
I've never had drive-thru bbq. Boy, it was great. It's kinda hard to believe that drive-thru food could be that good. They were out of potatoes the night that we went but we loved everything else that we tried. We got ribs, sausage, and pulled pork. All tender and extremely flavorful. We also got cheese fries - wasn't a big fan of this. Cheese wasn't melted and fries were not salted. Our favorite part of the whole dish was definitely the sauce. Wish we got more! A great place for quick food, very good quality.

Marlene S.

Yelp
Gessner location, like everything in life the food has changed a little too much salt depending upon food. The sauce has more of a tomato paste taste; However different strokes for different tastebuds. The cashiers are great and atomosphere.

Yelp
Can't come to Houston and not have BBQ. Didn't check reviews and was driving by so, in we went! Half Chicken 5 Stars, Ribs, 4 Stars, Brisket 4 1/2 Stars, Beans 2 Stars, Cucumber Salad 10 Stars!!! Absolutely fresh, crisp, tasty and a perfect balance to the salt meat. Staff was helpful and friendly and the atmosphere homey. Evidently the Pecan Pie here is to-die-for famous but we were too full to try it! I would definitely go back again...
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Visiting HTX. This place was good! Tried it about 30 min before closing and it was still good. Usually don't like to try places as they are nearing closing. I had the chicken po-boy, fries and cheesecake. Po-boy was good! Butter on the bread and meat. Simple! I had some of the tangy bbq and sweet that I poured on it. Chicken tender and sauce compliments it well. Fries are thick cut almost like steak fries but are like giant straight cut. Nice and hot even after my 10 min walk. Cheesecake was $7 but it's a poet piece about 3-4 inches high, strawberry sauce comes on side. When back in HTX, will check them out again!

Micheal M.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great, the food was great, and the staff was courteous. Overall a very good experience.
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
Good food. Great pecan pie. Shoulda been fast but I got here after a bus of 50 kids and the line took forever.... Ugh. It's a get a tray and walk through the line kind of place. Woulda been quick other than the bus of kids. I got the beef trio with brisket, single rib and sausage. The rib was a little dry and not too fresh but it was good, at one point. Just ok when I got it. The sausage was good and the brisket was decent. The Mac n cheese is non Evans from a microwave tub quality and the baked beans were ok. It's fast food bbq, so compared to the Hard 8 or Cattle-ack or the salt lick, it's 3 of 5 stars but I would come back.
google avatar

Pearl K.

Yelp
The food is good customer service on the other hand sucks! I waited in the drive thru for what it seems like forever (hangry feels like forever) no one ever came on to take my order i drive up and every worker is standing around bullshitting when someone tells them I'm at the drive thru window the other worker looks and proceeds to bull shit! The difference from working and collecting a check!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Good quality barbecue. It's not going to win any awards, you definitely can't go wrong with this place. My two favorite things were the half chicken and ribs. Also, the desserts are great. I'm not in the area often but it's definitely one that I will keep in mind in the future.
google avatar

Richard N.

Yelp
1/2 chicken and link combo. Chicken is undercooked, link is really good as were the sides - green beans and cauliflower although cold.
google avatar

Krystle H.

Yelp
It was ok. Definitely would go back there but the bbq wasn't specifically special lol still good and affordable!
google avatar

Lawrence C.

Yelp
Came through Pasadena again today and had the best bbq at Pappas in Pasadena. They are always consistent, hot and fresh. Fries are huge and brisket us perfection. The best compliment i can give is they are consistent, every time i come here.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
I recently stopped by Pappas Bros BBQ for a quick dinner to-go and overall had a decent experience. I ordered the burger, family value pack and baked potato, and was pleased with the flavor and quality of the food that I received. The burger was cooked to perfection and the family value pack was a great deal with plenty of food for the whole family. However, my baked potato was unfortunately forgotten when I placed my order to-go. While this was a bit of a disappointment, the staff was apologetic and quickly rectified the situation by preparing a fresh potato for me. Despite the minor mishap, the food at Pappas Bros BBQ is still tasty and I would definitely return. The forgetful service knocks my rating down to four stars, but I still had a enjoyable overall experience.
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
Food was good, my wife and I had ribs and pulled pork platters. The ribs and pulled pork were flavorful. Potato salad and Cole slaw were both good. Nicely decorated. Service was very fast.
google avatar

Hungry H.

Yelp
First time to Pappas. Happened to be good bbq for a reasonable price. Would visit again.

Melinda L.

Yelp
Yummy brisket! They're always delicious no matter what you get. Love their hamburgers and french fries. Salads with Ranch are wonderful and baked potatoes can't be beat! Go there frequently.
google avatar

Trisha S.

Yelp
Claimed to have the best Pecan Pie? I guess so!!! Giving them the credit! Sweet but not overly. And what we did - we put the delicious banana pudding on top of it, hah!!! Sinful!!! But we came here for the barbecue - the ribs are perfectly smoked and not dry, tasty and you have to eat it with the original sauce. Brisket gets two-thumbs up! It was delicious!Baby back ribs is tender and seasoned good! If we live around here, we'll come back. In the side note, we were with our couple friends. And being seniors, at times they are undecided and indecisive Thankful the lady behind the counter who is gracious and very patient. We appreciate the kindness. And it is cool to see Houston Police Officers eat here too.
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
Their BBQ is good but it has gotten EXPENSIVE. Sliced brisket is $21.95 per pound (May 2021). That seems really excessive. 2lbs of meat and two pints of sides was $63.00. Yes, they have decent BBQ but it's definitely not the best in town. Plus, the pricing they now have may negatively effect them also. They used to give you "fixings" with the food too but now, if you want pickles, peppers, onions, and other sides, you better ask for them. We looked before we drove away and noticed we did not have them. They did not give them to us. We had to ask. As we drove home, we called another really good BBQ place. Their prices were almost $5 per pound less. I highly recommend checking around if you're buying pounds of brisket. Bottom line: Decent food but has gotten expensive. Check around if buying bulk. Bon appétit, y'all.

Yelp
Some days it's a hit or miss some days amazing just yummy some days Aug......................byee

Jimmie T.

Yelp
I had a few problems with the food I ordered, the three meat combo with brisket, sausage and rib. I say rib because there was only one and it was simply a very large bone with almost no meat on it. A zero on a scale of 1 to 10. The brisket was good (not great), the sausage was ok. The potato salad must have been made by a lazy cook. The pickles were not chopped, but left whole in the potato salad. I have never seen potato salad made with whole pickles before.

Yelp
Stopped by this highly recommended BBQ joint while staying a night in Houston. Let me just say when they say everything's bigger in Texas...it was true here! Large portions of everything! We walked right in and we're a little confused as what to do when we realized there was a line to pick up your trays and silverware and then it's more or less a buffet line where they serve you. The sides are there in front of you and you can see the gentlemen in the back slicing the meat. (Sandwiches & fries are made on the other side of the kitchen and brought out to you.) I ordered a burger, fries and side salad with 1000 Island and grabbed a slice of carrot cake for dessert (I'm not a big smokey BBQ fan). Hubs ordered a combo plate with ribs, sausage, brisket, mac n cheese and beans. The side salad was HUGE! The dressing, amazing! Wish I knew where they buy it or how they make it if it's homemade! The burger was so big I could only eat 1/2 of it and didn't even put a dent in the fries. The ribs look like dinosaur ribs! Humongous! The hubs said the brisket was just like he imagined, flavorful, melt in your mouth with a nice smokey flavor and the ribs and sausage had a great flavor. The Mac n cheese was a bit runny, but he said it was good. The beans he didn't much care for. He wanted to go back and order more brisket! But he was too full! And the slice of carrot cake was 1/4 of a round cake! I had to take that back to the hotel for dessert later, and it didn't disappoint! It was pretty loud in there in the restaurant. And they have a security guard outside the door which makes me wonder if they often have trouble there. The drive through line was through the parking lot and out onto the street! Oh and the kid serving the food, it was his first day/night and he did an amazing job!
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Never would've thought that I would have gotten one of the best cheeseburgers from a BBQ restaurant, but that's what happened! The buns ends were hot, crispy and toasted! Comes with two large hamburger patties with American cheese and all of the fixings! There fries were on another level! Fresh, hot and had the perfect amount of seasoning! Definitely recommend getting yourself a burger on your next visit!!
google avatar

William G.

Yelp
Food was solid! They helped us despite coming in 10min before closing... the cook in the back Terry had great energy and came out and congratulated us on the Aztecs winning their final 4 game. He was super nice and welcoming! Staff was great and decent Tex BBQ! Glad we came... shout-out Terry!!!
google avatar

Andre M.

Yelp
First time here coming from San Antonio . Food was good but we weren't familiar with the cafeteria style ordering grabbing a tray & putting our food on the tray. Employees were just looking at us after we ordered and I told them it was our first time here and they kind of just were like ok instead of telling us how it works . We've had some good barbecue back home and it was okay here. Would maybe come back when we return to Houston again

Sophia L.

Yelp
Multiple long black hairs in my salad and was served half filled fries for their large order. & they're rude.

Charles S.

Yelp
Ok, so I show up to the restaurant sans wallet! Before I get in line I ask manager if they take Apple Pay . They do not . So, he suggests ordering online! As I'm ordering there was a rejection of the card ( fat fingers). While re entering the info a store employee approaches me and says , "I understand you're having trouble paying, I'll cover you". I thank him profusely but let him know payment went through. By the time I got in line, they brought my food to me for dining in! Great food and a better feel good story!

Amanda R.

Yelp
This place gets 2 stars because while the food is tasty (mostly) the staff acts like they would like to be anywhere else but helping me get what I paid $50 for. They told me they were out of tangy bbq sauce but when I had my husband park so I could go inside what did I find but bottle after bottle of said bbq sauce. I told the manager but she didn't seem to care. That seems to be the theme at papas now. Oh well. Guess I just got to go inside for bbq sauce now.
google avatar

Rusty V.

Yelp
Don't get the baby back ribs the 1st time I got them they were dry and no one likes them. Yesterday I got pork ribs on a plate and they told me they were out and gave me baby backs. It was like shoe leather and I gave it to my husky that spent 10 mins chewing the meat and left it on the floor uneaten. You know it's bad when your dog will not eat the meat and he's eaten a table leg before

Harlan C.

Yelp
I placed an order at Pappas BBQ at 290 and Hollister online. I paid for it online however when I get there they tell me they cancelled the order because they didn't have one of my sides! Really, they couldn't call me and tell me this. They said that I would get a refund in about 4 to 5 days and if I wanted to reorder! I'm not only not going to reorder, I will never order again. Worse customer service and no concern on the headache this has caused!

Robert P.

Yelp
Whenever I am in the mood for great flavor, tender Pork Ribs, this is my go to without fail. My 10 year niece calls them her special treat. Make sure you try a slice of the wonderful cheesecake. I would say it is one of the best I have ever had, I have had it in several cities including New York. I must say this one is the ticket.

Rachel O.

Yelp
The one in Monroe always running out of potatoes. They told me 20 minutes to return. I called in my order after 20 minutes and they said at 2:45 pm. They didn't have it ready my receipt says 2:54. Then I started to mix it up and kept seeing to much meat fat, and hardly meat. I called and talk to manager and he said to return. Did the drive thru and they said no potatoes u til 50 minutes. I asked for a refund but decided to get out of the line because I had 4 cars in front of me. Went inside and saw they had potatoes, told them it had to much fat that I had called already. The girls then said I had already ate it and that she can only give me the meat. I had mixed it up and probably had like 3 spoon. When I decided to complain because I didn't see that much meat after I took out the fat I was like I paid $18. Got back home an hour later with my cold potato the girl , I probably have to try another location even thou I live on Monroe. Raquel
google avatar

Walter M.

Yelp
No complaints on my end. I got the 3 meat plate combo and I highly recommend. Also got a sweet tea which was great. My favorite sauce was the spicy mustard which was not spicey but actually sweet.
google avatar

Bea A.

Yelp
For the love train your cashier. Waited over 30 minutes in drive thru with only 4 cars In Front. Food is great but waiting in line that long due to an incompetent cashier is not ok.
google avatar

Vett C.

Yelp
I ordered a BBQ Chicken Bake Potato that came full of chicken bones and dry plus the chicken was more shredded than chopped, the Cheeseburger was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. The customer service was professional and the restaurant and parking lot were clean.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
The meats were great tasting but the brisket had too much fat and grease. Sides were all very mediocre. There are better bbq places out there for 40$.
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
I enjoy the food, but I don't feel the food is worth the prices they charge. For a sandwich, small side of cole slaw and a bake potato, was $36.00. I don't know if they're trying to make up for what they lost during the pandemic, but I really feel that their prices are too high.

Deb S.

Yelp
We were surprised the reviews for Pappas were so low. It's definitely a 5 star bbq place. Big space that can accommodate large groups and a nice team of people.

Joe M.

Yelp
I've tried lots of bbq, but this one seems to top the list. Fast and friendly. Lots of great options with great flavor. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Daquiri J.

Yelp
I'd go back. It's pricey, but the food was great! I had a brisket po-boy and it was huge. Barely finished it all.

Mia S.

Yelp
This place is so good. It's my favorite BBQ place, but this last I went I asked for some sides like pickles, jalapeños, onions, and extra sauce, but I did not get any of them. Usually the food comes with free white bread, but I didn't get any bread. I also ordered jalapeño cheese bread, but we didn't get that either, and I actually paid for that.
