Yelp
** THREE STAR REVIEW ** means, it was ok.
We wanted to add another restaurant to our "eating out" list -- it was our hope that we would love Delta Blues as much as we LOVE Haywire. Both restaurants offer similar flavors, pricepoint, ambiance, and location.
We ordered the Southern Fried Green Tomatoes ($13.00 appetizer), their famous Prime Brisket ($17.00 entree), Chicken Fried Chicken ($20.00 entree), Tim's Crispy Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($18.00 entree), Mississippi Mudslide (free birthday gift), and a Pecan Cobbler ($9.00). As you can see we tried a little bit of everything on the menu. Our waiter was attentive and friendly but the overall experience did not meet our expectations.
The Fried Green Tomatoes was not worth 13 dollars. It was a tiny portion, one tiny sliced-up tomato. It wasn't seasoned (or cooked) correctly, and the goat cheese accents were not a good blend of flavors. We complained, but the attitude was to ignore that comment.
The famous Pappas Delta Blue Brisket was four thumbs down for us. We all said at the same time, Dry! Dry! Dry! Not at all what we expected. If you know what delicious juicy brisket looks like, tastes like, you will not be happy with this!
The Chicken Fried Chicken, however, was excellent! Juicy, moist chicken, covered in a jalapeno gravy that was to die for. The two sides selected were mashed potatoes & coleslaw. Both were flavorful, fresh, and delicious. This was a generous portion and it earned a To-Go box, lol. This menu item has the potential for bragging rights.
Their famous Fried Chicken lived up to its reputation but you don't get $18.00 worth! Pappas Delta serves up a light crispy chicken more like from an air frying rather than deep-fried. I loved that it was prepared this way! The chicken was moist, falling off the bone, light but crispy skin, but no oil everywhere. The portion size was small, you get a leg, a tiny breast, and a thigh. The two sides we selected were a double order of the Cream Corn Pudding with jalapeño. Amazing flavors, consistency, and it went perfect with the fried chicken. It was very good but not the best.
It was my birthday so our waiter did offer 'me' a complimentary dessert! I couldn't choose between the Mississippi Mudslide (free birthday gift) or the Pecan Cobbler ($9.00), so I ordered both, lol. I highly recommend that you pass on the Mississippi Mudslide. It tasted like a Sara Lee's Devils Food Creme Cakes, lol. The Pecan Cobbler, however, was very good -- but -- it did not compare to Haywires made from scratch famous pecan pie.
We gave them a shot! But, we will not go back.
