I love the food here a girl That's from Chicago this place definitely taste like the food from the Chi especially the Italian beef omg I get mine extra dip,hot peppers, mozzarella cheese at the bottom and nacho cheese at the top 😋 banging try it!!!! I will definitely tell my family That's looking for a taste of Chicago in Minnesota.

I'm from Chicago. I grew up there and this used to be my GO TO place for real Chicago yummy food. It's gone DOWN THE DRAIN. $48 thrown in the TRASH. 1. Credit card machine wouldn't work. How convenient! 2. Mushrooms complete MUSH. Inedible. 3. Onion rings and fries MUCH. Inedible. 4. Polish covered in crap i asked them not to add. Completely inedible. 5. Italian beef was the only thing done right.

Updated 2022 review: Still a go-to for Philly cheesesteak! The soda machine has syrup flavors, and that's pretty neat. Staff was super nice! Original review: The philly cheesesteak is always on point. Catfish and fries pretty good too. I'm glad this spot exists when I'm looking for deep fried goodness!

tzatziki sauce was not very good but the lamb/beef was extremely good! Great amount for the price as well. Fries need a little work. For sure need to clean the ice machine and soda dispenser so there's that. Overall give it a go for sure get the gyro platter. Give the jerk chicken a go to.(little spicy)

DISGUSTING!!! My coworkers and I ordered wings for lunch and one of them wanted to try the macaroni and cheese. It is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tasted. No cheese at all. It literally just taste like noodles and pasta water. I’m very dissatisfied easy mac would’ve been better.

Service was horrible.Dont go here unless you want to get got. 2nd hand food. Ordered food gave us the wrong order charged us and did not recìeve the right food of what we ordered. They were very unprofessional. And that needs to be the first place ice needs to stop at. IF YOU GO THERE LOOK AT YOUR FOOD REAL CAREFULLY.YOU MIGHT BE GETTING WOOPIE GOOSIE MEAT.

Good tasting fried okra is a true treat for me. The fam loved the wings (honey bbq & teriyaki) and lots of BEEF gyro. If you like more veggies in your gyro ASK for veggies. In person service was great, but ordering online was a fail. When I tried to leave a tip, TOAST froze, showed a "thank you" screen...but did NOT submit the order. We live close by, so (re)ordered in person and got back home to eat under 20 minutes!

If you are looking for a 5 star establishment from an ambiance perspective. This is not your spot. But if you are looking for some good food at reasonable prices with generous portions, this is your spot. I randomly-ish stopped here and am glad that I did. The person taking my order was attentive and patient with answering my questions. I went with a gyro meal. The meat was nicely seasoned and the serving size was more than enough. The fries that came with were really good also.

Can we say good. My only complaint is someone forgot my mild sauce and hot sauce. But besides that the food was good. The fish was crispy and good. I highly recommend. Go get you some!

Amazing chicken tenders and the rest of the family loves it, I have one thing to say. Tenders are a bit salty. Fast service and great food. Don't regret it.

Coupon scam!!!!!!!!!! 10/2021 Counter person named Kattiana Pulled up this location as I have enjoyed the Minneapolis location in the past. They usually have 2 or 3 coupons on the website and I ordered 3 hot dogs. I told her I had a coupon for "buy 2, get a 3rd free" and showed it to her on my phone. They only made 2 hot dogs and struggling with communications, she asked the cook what she should do. After a brief conversation in Spanish, she then told me the coupon is no good unless I print it. No where was this posted as a requirement. They do state only 1 coupon can be be used but nothing about printing of a coupon for them to accept it. Completely embarrassing in front of other customers for me trying to communicate with them to honor their companies coupon, so I let them bully me into submission. I'll stick to the Minneapolis location as they honor their companies coupons.

Not bad! I grew up near Chicago so I know a good Chicago dog/beef/Polish. I tried a Chicago dog and a gyro. The gyro was pretty good - big gyro with lots of meat and toppings. Tasty. The Chicago dog was not traditional, but the ingredients were fresh and it was a large dog. There was giardiniera on the Chicago dog which is not traditional, but I like giardiniera so I wasn't too mad about it. It did overpower the rest of the flavors, though. I would try it again but I would really prefer the traditional toppings on the Chicago dog!

I had a gyro with fries and 4 whole chicken wings. The fries were fantastic. The chicken wings were very tasty and cooked perfectly. They were a little small though. The gyro was a solid gyro. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely better than most. The menu is kind of hard to know what's going on. They have a gyro, a gyro platter and a gyro plate. I asked what the difference is, besides $10, but I had a hard time understanding gibberish. I do know the plain gyro came with fries for $7.99.

The sandwiches and gyros are good and you'll be hard pressed for a better Italian Beef and Sausage with fixings in the Eastside. The fries vary each and every time we've dined in from great tasting crispy outside with a fluffy inside to yesterday's soggy fries found at the bottom of the bag and put into your order. Since COVID, however, every single order has had something wrong with it and quality has tanked. It's a shame the next closest Chicago style eatery we have is Portillo's

Great! place my son loves the Philly. And they are really fast the Chef's :-) preparing food is fresh and quality and I have been to many places. And this by Far is quality food and taste. I am a very picky person when it comes to Food and how I spend my money. Please, put in your menu EMPANADAS!

I paid for Pepe I spent $89 and I ordered specific thing they repeated the order back to me and they gave me beef I don't eat beef I eat chicken they don't I called back I called back they told me I could not bring my food back that I paid for after I paid 89 dollars and they told me I could not come back and exchange my sandwich don't ever come here

You can order anything from this restaurant and get a good deal everything is made fresh and good we order the 10 piece chicken wings deal and also the catfish deal with the chicken wings. Best to call ahead and order before you get there to pick up parking is a little crowded sometimes especially on weekends or Friday nights.

I feel that the measure of a good burger is how much ketchup it needs. If it doesn't need any ketchup, it's a great burger. Did I mention I love burgers??? Pappy's puts a not-so-traditional spin on burgers....The Pappy Burger. What is it? A burger, of course. But, not just any burger. The Pappy Burger is topped with gyro meat and comes with a side of tzatziki sauce. No ketchup needed on this bad boy! Pappy's is a greasy spoon, but the Pappy Burger is well worth it!

Food was fine but little bait and switch going on with the pricing. Plus they now add an "additional food cost" to the bill. For example, two dogs, fries and soda is $7.99 on the menu they have in their entry way and that is that same price shows up online but they charge $8.98 in the restaurant. Cheese curds are $3.69 on the menu, they charge $5.98. I had a $2 off coupon from a text coupon but they also added an additional food cast charge of $1.15. I ordered online, and received a confirmation that with my $2 off, my total was $9.90 but when went to pick it up, I was charged $14.95. So my bill was almost $5 more than expected. Next time, I'll drive to Portillos in Roseville.

Great little hidden place. Locals know about it and portions and great. You won't leave hungry. Clean and good service.

Good food period. Sometimes there is some confusion with order changes. Otherwise safe place with decent food at a fair price.

I went to this place because of two reasons... 1. the Yelp reviews were almost so i wanted to see what it was all about 2. I was starving and had just gone to U of M Family Physicians for a check up down the road.... I asked the nurses if they had recommendations... She said Pappy's. So we went! Very New Yorker service... No real nicities but straight business... Here's your food fast and go away kind of attitude. I had the Chessesteak... made to order. Yum. Fries were crispy! They even had hot sauce ready to go. This is a really good location for a restaurant and the food is fresh. I highly recommend it.

Delicious!! Chili cheese dog was like a Det coney! Being a native Detrioter I was so excited to find this place! Also got the beef sandwich with cheese and chicken fingers. Chicken fingers might honestly be the best I've ever had! Beef sandwich also didn't disappoint!

When I need the best cheese curds in the city ( I've tried a ton of places) I come to pappys. I visit this location so frequently the cashier knows my order upon walking in. I'm always greeted with a friendly smile and two questions. The cashier says one of two prices of the two different foods I order. The cheese curds are amazing and to die for so are the cheese .

My boyfriend ordered him a Philly steak and me a four piece of chicken wing. his sandwich was great my food was disgusting fries was salty And the chicken was salty as well like bitter. I have ate there before and it did not taste like that. So I don't know who is the cook today but he shouldn't cook my food. Oh and there wasn't any cups for Mild sauce

Alot of fried food but its made very well and not greasy. The chicken tenders, fries and shrimp are all very good. Salads, coleslaw and gyros are also made very well. Good value for the money. Not the healthiest but you get a ton of food for the money.

This is really, really good stuff. I just moved to the neighborhood and have already tried a half dozen items. Their burgers, dogs, polish sausage, Philly cheesesteak, and even their walleye are excellent. I can't wait to check out the rest of their menu! Other reviews dissing the place don't seem familiar with Chicagoland style food, but that's okay. It's not for everyone. While Pappy's ain't Portillo's or Jimmy Red Hots, it's damn good Chicago-style fare at an excellent price. If you dig that type of thing, check this place out. You'll love it.

I think that Pappys is tasty and I would say if your in the mood for this kind of food this is the place to come. The prices are average and the food is greasy and delicious just like most chicago style eateries. The wait can be a little long at times and I must agree David D that the front counter people seem to have some issues with getting everything straight. I say call ahead if possible. Just an FYI- This place got written up by the MN department of health-Yikes!!

Gotta go five star on this one. I was just there with my son and his fiancé and everything we ordered was fantastic! Although it has a fast food atmosphere and not much for ambiance, I wouldn't have expected anything more. It's a ghetto-style eatery, but it was clean and well maintained and the staff was friendly. I had the gyro and it's exactly what I would expect in a good quality gyro. They even put the cucumber (dill? - I forget) sauce on the side which I really appreciated. The sandwich was overflowing and had plenty of gyro meat. My son ordered the pizza pocket, although small it tasted fantastic. He also ordered the hush puppys and they were amazing. His fiancé ordered the mafia sandwich and she said that was delicious as well. For dessert, my son ordered the lemon cake to go and it was phenomenal! Granted, it was in a plastic wrapper and was not made by Pappy's, but he shared a little with me and Wow! TIP: Don't go for the "value meal". My son did and it cost him an extra $2.99 for a soda and some fries. Totally not worth the extra cost in my opinion.

Best Gyros in town. I have had so many different variations. A gyro is a gyro blah blah blah, but it's good here. RECOMMENDED: try the GYRO BURGER!!! A unique and fullfilling item!!! Price is friendly too!!

Been going here for years. Hot or mild peppers always on Italian beef. I was just told pepper's are extra. Since when? Even showe the cashier the pic of the menu with peppers on the sandwich. The xook came from the back and told me to take it up with the owner. How can i post my sandwich pic? This us ridiculous

I've visited Pappy's a few times since I work in the area. The food is good, and as it says, a lot like a Chicago Style Eatery. Not real high quality stuff, but good enough for the price. Their Italian Beef can be a little sweaty, but still goes down great. Their portions are also really generous, which keeps me full. It's always busy, and it seems they have trouble keeping the place clean at times. And generally don't have the best time keeping track of what they say when I order, but they haven't screwed up. The cheap food, effort they put forth, and friendliness keeps me coming back.

Nom Nom Nom! I had a throughly heart-stopping cheap meal at Pappy's. For less than $4 I got a pizza puff, fries and a drink. My PIC had a 2 Chicago Dogs, fries and a drink for about $7. He said the Chicago dog was better than Chris & Rob's, but not as good as the Wienery. The pizza puff is a gooey messy, and awful for you; which of course means it's absolutly delicious. The fries are as good as you can get without being hand-cut. This isn't a place we'd go often, just because it's on the East Side, but the hours are much more generous than most of our other favorites, which may lead to late-night Chicago dog trips across town.

Pappys on whitebear sent my order an hour late and then sent the wrong order. Dont get their food. The cust service is horrible.

Not the greatest service or the cleanest place - almost made me want to take out instead of eating in. However, the food made up for it. I love Italian Beef and am always looking for new places that sell it. Unfortunately, most places outside of Chicago have not met my expectations. Pappy's did! I love that they douse your sandwich - so much to the point that you have to use two hands and/or a fork. Expect to be using lots of napkins :) Also, great location. It's literally down the block from me. Double score!

Want a taste of the Windy City in St Paul go to Pappy's. They have all the delicious foods that's found in the Chicago eatery's. The prices are cheap and the food is good. I've never had a bad meal there. The neighborhood isn't Beverly Hills but it's part of the experience you may get a free show out of the deal.

I have been here several times, and all of the times were really good until this last time I visited. The wings have gotten really small over the years, and the food quality wasn't that great. The service wasn't bad at all, but it's always been fairly good, with that being said I can only say what I know to be true. This place to me was so great that I used to go every weekend, but not anymore.

We've driven past Pappy's numerous times on the way to and from church, and the siren call of the Vienna Beef poster has been nagging me since I first saw it. Today after church I was craving a Maxwell Street Polish, so we gave in. The Polish was decent, though the bun was a little soggy. The Chicago dog was also passable, with all the necessary toppings, but I was a bit disappointed that the dog was without natural casing. Nothing you put on a hot dog can make up for the absence of that juicy snap. Husband seemed to enjoy his Pappy's burger, which is just a burger with gyro meat on top. The fries were perfectly cooked, but they were ruined with WAY too much salt. It's hot today, so I gave in to the lure of the slushie machine, but I regretted my decision five slurp later when all the flavor was gone from my ice. The atmosphere of the place is nothing spectacular, but nothing really bad either. It's just a plastic-boothed neighborhood dive. They were playing the KDWB a bit loudly for my comfort, but the classic Atari game in the corner lent the place a little cred. We'll probably go back if we're hungry after church again, but Pappy's doesn't stack up to some of the other Chicago-style eateries in town. Uncle Franky's doesn't really have anything to worry about, if you ask me.

Food is OK, but service is no good, call ahead with an order and they were rude on the phone. I show up 20 minutes later and the food has not been started. Had it been busy at the time I would have understood the late start but there were three other people there. To top it off when I went through the order I had to go back in to get two other orders they must have forgotten in the rush.

Great food when you want a change from Chris & Rob's place. Be sure to grab lots of napkins for the dipped Italian beef sandwich. De-lish!

Taste of Chicago! If you miss Chicago, go to Pappy's for a taste of home. This isn't Chicago STYLE, this is Chicago in St. Paul! Authentic Italian Beef, sausage, and combos. Vienna hot dog on a poppy seed bun and finished with sport peppers. They do hot dog specials wrapped with fries too. Maxwell Street Polish! They make great chicken too. The restaurant design encourages you to eat it and beat it but it is still worth the trip, all the way from Wisconsin. Prices are exceptional, the owner is nice, wants you happy. You will be happy.

The Pappy Burger makes all other burgers irrelevant. So, with the One Burger That Rules Them All right here in St. Paul, why would you go anywhere else? Not to mention pinball and Ms. Pac-Man to pass the time, this should be on your regular rotation of restaurants.

Never ordering from there again they forgot part of my order and then made wrong and when I called and told them they hung up on me then I called back and they pick up and left the on the counter. I can hear them talking in background

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I am addicted to the gyros. Big portions, made fast, and cheap! And the french fries are awesome! I have also had the Philly, which is very good too. I always mean to try something new when I go, but I am too in love with the gyro, haha! I hear the wings are really good too. If you are looking for a quick bite, or to pick something up on the way home, check this place out. They won't disappoint :)

I was not at all impressed with their overly greasy, lacking in flavor, gyros. The fries were good, but that is about the only positive thing about the food. My wife had a Chicago dog which she described as "Meh. I've experienced better." Will not be going there again because just from the internal appearance, it didn't seem like a very clean place. I don't exactly expect to see it on Kitchen Nightmares at some point, so don't get me wrong. It wasn't filthy, but when the stuff you can see is questionable it is a real concern because you know that a lot of proper cleaning and preparation cannot be seen by the customer.

The Italian Beef Sandwich was good, but not worth the price waiting 15 minutes. I wish the staff made it clearer as to what constituted an "upcharge". Apparently, I paid 50 cents more for cheese and 50 cents more for peppers. To me, the bread was more memorable than the roast beef. This sandwich has nothing on the one of Portillo's fame in Chicago.

After running a few errands today, I decided to try this place out for a philly cheesesteak. I looked over the menu board for other options, but decided on the philly anyways. I looked over the board for sides, but could not see fries on the board. I saw onion rings, mozzarella sticks and some other items, but no fries. This seemed strange to me. I placed my order at the register for a philly. He asked if I wanted a meal or just the sandwich. I found out a meal included fries and a beverage. I ordered it as a meal for eat in and paid the $9.45. I got my 16 oz cup for my beverage, which like most quick serve restaurants is self serve. I was surprised at such a small cup, but I am ok with that. If I want more soda, I can get a refill at no extra charge. After a few minutes my order was ready. It was in a to go box. The guy remembered it was for eat in and transferred it to a basket. Now how does this happen? He asked if it was for here or to go. I told him here, but for some reason my receipt shows take out. I take my basket of sandwich and fries to a booth. The booth was cleaned appropriately. The window sills could use a dusting. It could use a fresh coat of paint. While they are at it, would be nice if they select a different color. The yellow is not a decent color to me. Looking at my sandwich I was thinking this is supposed to be a philly cheese. Where's the cheese? I opened the sandwich up a bit and finally saw some. They use swiss on their cheese steaks, but not very much. The beef to bread ratio was perfect. It had plenty of beef and some chopped peppers and onions. The roll was a nice sub roll, lightly toasted. They call it a 7 inch sandwich. I am not so sure it was, but close enough. The sandwich was very good. The fries were decent too. It was a perfect size sandwich for this "formerly big eater". Looking over the take out menu, I saw they had the regular size (7 inch) and a large size(12 inches). I did not see that option on the menu board of a regular or larger size. Why? Seems silly to me. How can I order a large sandwich, if I do not see it available on the board? Doesn't seem like a good business practice to have a customer ask if there is a larger sandwich. A good philly is one where nothing more is needed to make it a tasty sandwich. No mustard, no ketchup, no hot sauce, no mayo. Nothing. The beef, cheese, peppers and onions make it flavorful enough. This did not disappoint in that area except it could use a bit more cheese. I had to look to see if there was any cheese. My disappointments with this place are: 1. Getting the order wrong. I ordered for eat in and it was written up as a to go order. One person, one order, not busy. That should not happen under these circumstances. 2. The take out menu lists a combo at $7.98. A combo is not listed on the menu board. The combo came out to $8.78 plus tax. I understand prices can increase. But get rid of the old printed take out menus and get new ones printed up. If they keep the same layout and adjust the pricing accordingly, it will not cost much to get new menus. The sign says Chicago Style Eatery. It's been 20 years since I was in Chicago, so I can't comment if this a Chicago Style Eatery or not. They have Chicago Style favorites, Chicago Dog, Maxwell Polish, Italian beef, etc. But do these items make it a Chicago Style Eatery? I think not. But others may disagree. I might return at some point for other items knowing full well the incompetence of the owner/management not training the employees the importance of listening to the customer and owner/management being too cheap to order take out menus reflecting the current prices.

This place is amazing. You really won't be disappointed. We have tried many types of food (my favorite being the Philly gyro) and each dish is great! The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great (a wide variety of customers). It is amazing to see how many people come in to pick up food while we are eating. It shows that this place is great!

Good food joint close to home for a quick stop and eat in or to go philly cheese steak is good food taste delicious had food for all the family had some plain wings that fed my kids place is a good joint for eating that's down the street.

The Italian beef is amazing! The giardenera is the best I've ever had. This is a simple quick and delicious dinner or lunch destination. I've thought about trying something else each time I've gone, but can't stray from the dipped italian beef!

Pappy's is a terrific little restaurant on St. Paul's east side. If you are a fan of Chicagoland foods, you'll come to love this little dive. The foods I have tried are Chicago dogs, Italian beef (wet w/giardinara!), gyros, italian beef w/an italian sausage stuffed in it, cheesesteak and burgers are all amazing. Their fries are terrific too. Their big Billy Burger is 2- 1/3 lb patties and defeated my bottomless pit of a 14 yr old. The service is always friendly and the staff doesn't seem to change much, so it must be an OK place to work. I only go to Pappy's during the day- it's a blue collar to white collar lunch crowd. At night when I look in, the customers look like Chicago has dumped a load of it's finest thugs on poor St. Paul and it's take out only for this cat. Prices are very reasonable, parking lot is small but sufficient and it's easily bus accessible. Try this joint, you won't be sorry!

The wife and I have been coming back for years now, always excellent. The prices have crept up over the years, but the food is totally worth it. We lovr the Italian beef, but tgr dogs and chicken are also great.
