The Tastiest Kebobs and Skewers of Philly | Eater Philly

"A colorful array of Mediterranean dishes (like falafel, hummus, baklava, and of course, kebabs) dominates the menu at Paprica Grill. Here, you can try the lamb or chicken shish kebabs, made on Turkish skewers and grilled with onions and green bell peppers." - George Banks-Weston

The Essential Halal Restaurants of Philly | Eater Philly

"Paprica Grill is an impressive Turkish that’s unapologetic in their level of heat and spice — with a passion for incorporating unique cuts of meat. Here, a calf’s liver is marinated in garlic and parsley, suçuk sausage is served with warm flatbread, as beyti, adana, and doner kebabs are menu highlights." - Ernest Owens

My husband and I LOVE paprica grill! We often go here before seeing a walnut street theater play. Great food, awesome service and all around amazing atmosphere. The owner makes you feel like family and the hospitality is top notch. Our favorites are the pide with sujuk, Shepard's salad, fried cheese rolls and anything lamb! Hummus is great too. Definitely recommend for when you want a good, fresh, home-cooked meal. Order the baklava for dessert :)

What a place! I would this is the most delicious Turkish cuisine place I have experienced so far. Deep inside Philly downtown, I visited this in two consecutive days because food was really good. The owner Ahmed and his crew know how to cook and serve. Usually Turkish food is very mild and plain but this place serve food with really good balance of traditional spices and original taste. I would highly recommend to anyone who is in the area and off course due to halal meat the food is freshly served.

We were on a day trip to Philadelphia and craving some Mediterranean food when we came across Paprica Restaurant. It turned out to be such a nice find! The place had a cozy vibe, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. What really stood out was how surprisingly delicious the food was — everything we tried was full of flavor and really well made. But the highlight for me was the apple tea. It was warm, slightly sweet, and so refreshing I wasn’t expecting to like it so much, but I absolutely loved it.

Google
Absolutely loved our dinner at Paprica Grill! We had the chicken kabob, lamb kabob, and liver. All were incredibly flavorful and tasted fresh off the grill. The owner was so warm and attentive, which made the experience even better. He even treated us to some Turkish tea at the end of the meal, a perfect and cozy way to wrap up a fantastic dinner. Wish I would have taken pictures of the food, but it was too good and we devoured it right away. Highly recommend!

Google
My friends and I really enjoyed our authentic Turkish meal at Paprica! Our server was really friendly and helpful and she did a great job. And of course, the dishes were absolutely delicious. It was a great place to eat together and just enjoy the evening. Would highly recommend!

Google
Amazing food, great atmosphere, service was outstanding. It felt like they were bringing things just as I was about to ask. One of the best restaurants I've been to in Philadelphia. Can't recommend Paprica Grill enough.

Google
I got their lentil soup and mixed grills. Their meat was so fresh and juicy. It stayed very fresh even when I ate the leftovers a couple days later. The service is great here and the food all tastes authentic and delicious!

Google
Dining at this Turkish restaurant was a truly delightful experience. The flavors were exquisite, and each dish was beautifully presented. The service provided by the staff was attentive and friendly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients, which elevated the taste of every meal. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.

Yelp
Perfect Turkish food and very kind owner. At the final of the meal, the Turkish tea were served us. I have tried the best lahmacun here in USA. Thank you very much.

Yelp
Was at Wills eye hospital and needed to eat before heading out of town just before dinner time. Found on yelp and good reviews so decided to give it a shot and glad we did! Easy walk just across the parking lot from Wills. Was not busy yet and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant is casual and clean. The food was delicious. So many things to choose from, and easy for my wife to find something gluten free for her. We'll likely be back when we're in the area again. There's more things to try!

Yelp
I came here for lunch with a few coworkers and it was a pretty solid spot. Considering it was during peak lunch hours, it wasn't too busy. The restaurant was pretty modern, with some decorations here and there. As for food, the menu had a bunch of Middle Eastern classics. I went with the Lamb Adana Kebab, which came on a plate of hummus, with bread on the side. The lamb was cooked nicely and any dryness was remedied by the hummus. My coworkers enjoyed their dishes as well. Good place for something a little different!

Yelp
I've been here twice and the food was fantastic both times. I've tried the Lamb Shish Kabob and Lamb Adana Kabob - both were so flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The portion sizes are just right. Some of the menu items can be a little pricey, but I think the quality of the dishes are worth it. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Food was pretty average. With the $ amount, I would have expected high bar on the food quality especially Chicken and Shrimp

Yelp
My sister and I tried this place before seeing a show at the Walnut Street Theatre. It's perfectly located for that, almost behind the theater on the next block over on Sansom Street. They offer a very generous 20% off for pre-show performances. We would definitely go back there again. Appetizer sizes are pretty large, so good for sharing. We opted to try 2 different appetizers and then split a grilled branzino fish. The fried calamari app we ordered was a bit overcooked, but I did like the crispiness better than my sister. The fish was spectacular. It was moist and cooked perfectly. We had another item, which I don't remember the name, which we thought was something like spanakopita, only it wasn't. It was bready with spinach and cheese. But where spanakopita is flaky, this was heavy and doughy and there was not much spinach or cheese. It was not a big piece, which was fine as neither one of us cared much for it. It's a very interesting menu, so if you're looking for something different, give this a try. They had some good looking desserts as well, and my sister wanted the baklava, but we spent too much time chitchatting and realized we only had 10 minutes before we had to run to the theater. Next time! (Tip: you can cut across the parking lot across the street and you're right at the theater. Maybe a 2 minute walk!)

Yelp
Paprica Grill is a modern Mediterranean restaurant tucked away on Samson Street. We got: 1. Special Lahmacun flatbread - spicy minced beef on housemade Turkish flatbread. 2. Babaganoush with fresh pita 3. Chicken shish kebab 4. Lamb adana kebab Everything was so flavorful and delicious. The portions were huge (perfect for sharing), and the staff were super friendly and welcoming!

Yelp
A local owned clean and organized turkish Mediterranean resto which offers a reasonable price for a remarkable delicious and quality meals and desserts here, they are just a few blocks from independence hall. Service is excellent, the lady that served us knows the menu well. Environment and music is inclined to turkish Mediterranean vibes so you could feel you are not in philly for awhile. Accepts credit/debit card. Ample spacing between chairs. We highly recommend this resto to try. Parking is street but has open and closed on surrounding streets. See images for reference.

Yelp
It was pouring heavily outside and I wasn't even sure I was even up to eating out but we decided to try Paprica out. The menu had plenty of options and being unfamiliar with most of the choices, I wasn't even sure what to get but the owner/manager (?) suggested I try the traditional gyro platter. He gave me a piece of the lamb to try and I was hooked. The platter itself had so much food. The lamb and beef were so tender and flavorful. I'd come back just for that platter! The hummus with falafel was a great appetizer to get your taste buds going too. The other staff members were so nice as well, recommending what they liked when we were unsure and even making sure we had everything we needed. I'm glad I came here because Paprica will be added to my list of favorites!

Yelp
We were out for a walk in downtown and were on the lookout for a halal spot. This place popped up on Yelp and I am so glad it did! The inside has plenty of seats! Upon entering you are greeted by a waiter and sat down immediately. I was at first a bit hesitant to try this spot, because in the past I've been to Turkish cuisines that have just been too buttery for my liking. However, Paprica Modern actually does their food right! Not too much oil, no meaty smell and the perfect amount of flavoring. I was pleasantly impressed with the quality of food and service provided to us. I would love the opportunity to try more items from their expansive menu :)

Yelp
Food is consistently good. Many things to choose from and so hard to decide. Service is great and they were able to accommodate a large group even though it's not that large of a restaurant.

Yelp
I'm just obsessed with this spot. I just went there three times the past week lol you have to try the a bit pricey for $12 but it's the only place that sells it in the area. But I'm gonna try to start making it at home because I can't afford it anymore. Lol. I love the chicken Adana don't forget to ask for a hot sauce with it. I love the manyi- It was delicious and different. It's a chef specialty. The tea was good. And I highly recommend their cold platters.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful service. Nostalgic for food in Istanbul. Lentil soup (shorba) was just what I needed. Nice ambience with Turkish music.

Yelp
Great place for Mediterranean food. I enjoyed falafel plate, zucchini pancakes, baklava. Portion size is great, ambience is great and great customer service. Great options for vegetarians!

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal here with a large and boisterous group. We ordered appetizers to share and the fresh warm pita was addicting. I ordered the Turkish meatballs which were very flavorsome and a generous portion. Everyone's entrees were large portions and great flavor. The best part of the night was the service, the staff helped cut and serve the birthday cake for my friend and was patient with our large order. This is a small detail but they even fold the to go plastic bags! I look forward to coming back and trying more of their offerings.
google avatar

Roxy A.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and was surprised they try to push the main menu to you instead of the lunch menu. You have to ask for it--I felt that was a bit sketch to do that. This is a decent type of place, and the food is pretty good! I just wish it was cheaper, cozier and the food was slightly more flavorful.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food! I am from Turkey and this is a great restaurant and the food is very high quality!

Yelp
Paprica Grill is serving up no-frills, modern Mediterranean cuisine. Located at 811 Samson St in Philadelphia. Kebabs, falafels, wraps & other Mediterranean staples can be found on the menu. Favorite menu items -MEDITERRANEAN MEZE PLATTER HAYDARI, BABAGANOUSH, GRAPE LEAVE, HUMMUS, EGGPLANT, FALAFEL PITA A very casual, authentic dining experience indeed!

Yelp
This place never disappoints! My third time here. We were a party of 9. We ordered some great family style platters. I ordered the lentil soup it was good. We ordered the perfect amount of food.We were visiting the Jewish History Museum. What a great day
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoyed this place. I would give this food a 3 the first time trying it. It goes to a 4 because everybody inside seemed nice and it's a nice restaurant for a date night. If you go you should get two different types of entrees and/or appetizers. I got Lamb Beyti which was good but ended up being a lot to eat in one sitting just because it's like 20 pieces lol. This food is like a ball of lamb meat wrapped in thin bread, in the middle of my plate is a sauce to dip it in. I feel like I shoulda got that, somebody shoulda got a chicken dish and we eat half and half. It is a little expensive but for the amount of food it ended up being fair. I will definitely be back to try something else. My friend got their cheese/tomato appetizer (which was really good) and their falsfel which she said wasn't good. She said she explained this to somebody working who said they would tell the chef.

Yelp
The lentil soup was flavorful, and the chicken Adana was spectacular. The service was friendly and patient. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Great halal Turkish food. We ordered platter for two. Seating area was very nice. Kabob's are the best and the steak was perfectly cooked. Rice and salad was great. Servers were always checking up on us and were extremely efficient! Definitely a place to return next time.

Yelp
Amazing spot. We had the appetizer sampler with pita and sliced veggies and all 5 of our selections were outstanding. Super flavorful and fresh. We also had the Sheppard's salad, olives, baked rice pudding, coffee, and tea. This place is seriously 5 star. Ended up eating the hummus with a spoon it was that good. Super quick and friendly service. Also located just behind walnut street theater so perfect before or after a show. If you haven't tried paprica grill you're missing out.

Yelp
Got take out Baklava here - was great. Each order comes with 4 squares. Well made, light layers with lots of pistachio.
google avatar

Arlene A.

Yelp
Wonderful food and service! We ordered a platter with sliced meat, stuffed grape leaves and other tasty bits. It was a lot of food, and we ate every bite! The rice pudding was the best we'd ever tasted. Prices are reasonable, and the restroom is clean. Fun Turkish pop music performance on the TV (not too loud). Highly recommend.

Yelp
After the convention we were looking for a spot in downtown Philly area, came across this gem to put it lightly. Food was amazing , especially liver (ciğer) cooked unique approach. Server suggested and was right on spot. We had mixed grill and it was delicious, meat was juicy. Chef came and greeted knowing we were out of town. Definitely go to spot in Philly. Inside was clean, crowded but not crammed.

Yelp
Does anyone else judge Mediterranean restaurants by bread? Or is it just me? I came here based on the stellar reviews and Turkish bread photos featured on Yelp which looked scrumptious. You can only imagine my disappointment when we were served packaged pita with our mezze sampler... We asked about the Turkish bread featured in their photos and were told that was from the last owner. Ugh. In my opinion, bread makes or breaks the sampler platter if the samplers aren't extraordinary. In this case, they were good, but not BAM-don't-even-need-great-pita good. Although we were stuffed from the combo, I looove mucver, or zucchini pancakes so we had to order that. They came out hot, freshly made but my husband and I both only took a 2-3 bites and decided it was a no-go, which I'll tell you NEVER happens. The mucver was oily and to be quite frank, made me feel sick. However, the baklava was the saving grace. They didn't have the chocolate baklava that's featured in the photos, buttt the pistachio baklava was delicious. We ordered it with a side of ice cream, which was soft and creamy - hit the spot! Unfortunately, Paprica was not for us. We had high hopes judging by the reviews and photos, but would not come back again or recommend it. After spending time in Turkey, this did not reflect the wonderful quality of food there.

Yelp
Very delicious and super satisfying meal. Highly recommend doing the platter to share, everything that you get with it is superb and then fresh house made bread to top it off. The soup was super good as well, I did forget to take a picture before diving in- sorry lol. Regarding all other items we ordered (pictures w review), they were all so delicious. The lamb was cooked perfectly, chicken and fish were also yummy. Service was very good and friendly. They made sure to let us know there was a little wait on the fish and they were also very informative on different dishes. Definitely will be back again soon!

Yelp
I was expecting so much more from this place based on such great reviews. Honestly, the combination meat platter was so bland that I had a hard time swallowing the food down. The only saving grace of our entire dinner was the Kunefe, which I highly highly recommend.

Aida O.

Yelp
Had such a fantastic dinner here! The food was incredible, fresh and portions very healthy. The service was very very good and friendly. Felt very at home and welcome here!

Yelp
A charming restaurant! Great for a date night or with a friend. Food is so delicious and authentic! And the service is fantastic! Paprica didn't miss a beat.

Yelp
Paprica Grill is an authentic Turkish eatery. It is a hidden gem off of 8th and Sansom. Folks, this place is worth the trip! The lentil soup is amazing. Their falafel is superb. Their kabobs are so tasty. Definitely don't miss out on the desserts...Baklava us sooo good, and the rice pudding is off the charts! Wonderful staff and service make this one of our favorite places.

Yelp
What an amazing experience and feast! Normally, when I go to Turkish restaurants, I always get the same things that I love (hummus, haydari, lamb Adana kebabs, and kunefe). At Paprica, we were able to have those same standbys but also had an opportunity to try a number of other things - and nothing disappointed. At all. The menu has so many delicious things to choose from, whether cold apps or hot mezze, pides, kebabs, and more. There is something for everyone here (even your picky eating family member who like my mother would require a standard burger). On our visit, we had the opportunity to try the hummus, ezme, eggplant, haydari, babaganoush, grape leaves, homemade Bosnian borek, lahmacun flatbread, spinach pide, lamb adana, and lamb chops. And the kunefe. It may be the best kunefe I have ever had and I have had plenty. The owner and staff couldn't have been any kinder, too. This just made everything that was already wonderful even better. The space is casual and inviting, too. To further make the experience, it's also BYOB. If you want a delicious meal in a welcoming environment, you don't need to look any further. We can't say enough great things about experience - and we can't wait to come back again. Highly recommended!!!

Steven C.

Yelp
2 friends and I stopped in on a snowy evening. Ordered the combination platter cold appetizer. Definitely get the feta cheese and the babagannus. The lahmacun is super fresh. Didn't read the menu carefully and didn't realize it came with 2 per order so we were very happy. The star of the night is definitely the lamb beyti. The meat was tender and flavorful. Alone it was delicious but with the added yogurt sauce really set it off and made everything come together. This is a definite must get every time. For dessert we got the kunefa. This is also a definite must get because it pairs so well with the Turkish tea. Ambiance was very cozy and the music being played was enjoyable. Another table had a little girl who was jamming out to the tunes. Will definitely need to come back with more people to try more things until we get everything off the menu. Staff and food was amazing!

Yelp
Delicious pide! I'm just visiting but I've had plenty of pide and it was exceptional. I love how soft the crust was will definitely order again when I'm passing through!

Yelp
I went to dinner at Paprica last night with some friends. The food was excellent - everything was fresh, and delicious with nice sized portions. The staff - waiter, manager, etc. - could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. And an amazing thing happened. When I was paying the bill, I opened my purse and a large bill dropped out, onto the floor. I didn't know this until today when I went into my purse and I saw it was gone. I asked my friends, I hadn't given it to them. So on the off chance the restaurant found it, I called. AND THEY HAD IT!! The waiter found it and turned it right in to management. I was shocked and delighted. You don't expect honesty these days and what a rare and wonderful pleasure it was to find it (and fabulous food) at Paprica Grill. Thank you! I will be back and I could not recommend this restaurant more highly Norma L
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
Yum!! This place is a must try in the area! The mezzes are seriously on point! When you walk in the place just smells absolutely amazing. I loved the tabouli and stuff grape leaves, they were seasoned so well and truly hit the spot. I didn't get a chance to try the hummus or falafel so that means I will have to come back. I got the lamb shank and the adana kebab. Both were delicious but the only thing was I wish there were grilled veggies or something along with the lamb shank. This is a must try and there are so many things on the menu so I will need to post an update!
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
It is overpriced for its quality. It has an intimate atmosphere, and the food is authentic. However, I found that the meats were not particularly flavorful or well seasoned. For better Turkish, try Stina. For better Mediterranean broadly construed, try Manakeesh at the lower price point and Suraya and Zahav at the high end.
google avatar

Jaime C.

Yelp
We came here to try Turkish food for the first time and we were not disappointed. As a starter, we ordered the Sujuk Sausage and it was very good when mixed with the pita they bring on the house. Then, we got the Mixed Pide and it was also very good. It's BYOB and they'll even help you open your wine bottle and bring extra glasses. Ambience was nice, but some music in the background would've been nice.
google avatar

Leanne C.

Yelp
This a cute place in the city with good Mediterranean food. My server was so sweet but another employee was clearly being rude to her which distracted from my enjoyment.
google avatar

Jayme S.

Yelp
A place to eat authentic Mediterranean food was the destination for my teenage son and I, and although we're not experts of the cuisine this I seemed to have served it. The staff was incredibly helpful and patient with us by politely answering questions and explaining different dishes. We arrived at an off time from usual eating times so it was very quiet during our meal. Although the quiet was welcome after traveling most of the day. Inside the lighting was nice, sound was comfortable, and the place was very neat and clean.

Bianca H.

Yelp
This place checks off the entire list Clean Atmospheric friendly staff and owner AMAZING FOOD! Everything was made to order and tested fresh and delicious. Would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area!
google avatar

Christopher N.

Yelp
Excellent portions (especially for the price) and very tasty. The service was on point. Went on a Thursday night and it was busy without being crowded. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Igor B.

Yelp
Paprica is very cosmopolitan place where you will hear many languages while you are there. I heard Russian, Croatian, Turkish, French and Arabic. Cheese rolls were the best ever - and I tried many Calf liver and sausage excellent choice. You will have a hard time buying hummus in the store after you try theirs. Excellent cooking and service. Bravo!! I was happy to support Turkish-American small business.

Zim A Z.

Yelp
Ambience is really good for eating and I love the Turkish music in the background really brings in that Turkish vibe. It feels like I'm in Turkey without even being there. The waiting staff is courteous and very respectful with our orders. Last but not the least, the food is absolutely great. It's prepared by Turkish people who knows what they are doing. The owner is here most of the time and gives Turkish tea on the house sometimes so you wouldn't wanna miss out on that.
google avatar

Alma S.

Yelp
The owner was so sweet to us and had us try their turkish tea which I loved! The place had a nice ambiance and I would definitely go back.

Chris B.

Yelp
Amazing spot!! Great food and super fast service. Go for the grill plate for 2 if you can.

Nathalia B.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Wonderful staff and service that let us customize our order for more people. We ordered the Paprica mix special that was for two people but the chef organized it for three people. Everything was delicious and perfect!
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
First time here tonight, the inside is very nice and modern. The host was very gracious, as well as my server. We ordered the Doner Gyro and mixed grill. Both were fantastic, lots of flavor. I also had the Turkish tea, which to me tasted a lot like a earl grey or maybe even a Darjeeling. Very nice. After dinner we got the pistachio baklava, it was amazing. I ended the dinner with the Turkish coffee. Hands down one of the best and purest form of coffee I've ever had. Beware is is very strong!

Yelp
Had lunch with seven othercoworkers one time here. Not bad greek food. Place, it's more for a quick meal time option or work lunch type option.
