8 Luxury Cruises for Retirement Celebration, According to T+L's A-List Advisors

"Aqua Expeditions leads several incredible seven day itineraries through the islands in Indonesia. One favorite option is the trip departing from Bali and Flores, stopping in Komodo National Park and Moyo Island. Another one-in-a-lifetime option takes you to Raja Ampat and the Spice Islands— the heart of the remote Coral Triangle, where there are more marine species than anywhere else on earth—for incredible snorkeling . — Jack Ezon, Embark Beyond." - Travel + Leisure Editors

An absolute paradise. We traveled a long way for healthy reefs and marine biodiversity and Raja Ampat did not disappoint. Even just snorkelling we saw many different species of sharks and rays in the most beautiful underwater ecosystems. I don't know if I'll ever see coral like that again. The resort was wonderful from the staff to the food to the rooms. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. I appreciated the marine conservation efforts and connection with the locals. Could not recommend this place enough!

Fantastic resort. From the moment you step off your Red Eye flight in Sorong your time with Papua Explorers begins. We immediately upon exiting the airport we were greeted by a smiling representative who quickly ushered us to a waiting car. From there we were taken to a nearby hotel for breakfast and checkin. Once everyone arrived we were taken to the boat that would drive us to the resort. Upon arrival we were greeted with music and a welcome song by many of the staff. A quick orientation and we were given the keys to our wonderful over the water cottages. The cottages are beautiful and spacious with both a covered lanai and a sun deck with lounge chairs. 3 great meals were served every day. The real treat for us as snorkelers were the 3 hour long dives a day. Every spot was different and amazing, definitely on the par with the best coral anywhere and thousands of fish. At the end of our week we didn't want to leave.

Stayed here one week, and I could have stayed forever. The most amazing resort with the most wonderful staff. Location was incredible, with a gorgeous, healthy house reef that you can snorkel right off your bungalow. Dive center was top notch, Markus did a great job organizing dives and day trips, and his dive team was professional and did a great job of keeping everyone safe and happy. Shannon was so kind, going over and above to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. The entire staff couldn’t do enough for us, even singing me happy birthday with the chef baking me a cake. Food was tasty and plentiful. It is a truly magical place, the village next to the resort is also worth a visit if you can, the Papuans are so kind and welcoming. The resort helps the village and employs many of them. Thank you so much Suna for helping me navigate the booking process, and thank you to the entire staff for being so kind. I feel so lucky to have been able to stay here, it’s good to know places like this still exist.

We had an absolutely unforgettable experience at Papua Explorers. As avid snorkelers, we were blown away by the vibrant underwater world—every snorkel and dive was jaw-droppingly beautiful, teeming with colorful fish and pristine coral reefs. With the option to do three dives a day, we were spoiled for choice, and every site felt like something out of a dream.||The over-water bungalows were straight from a fantasy—spacious, beautifully designed, and open to the ocean, with two private decks and stairs that led directly into the warm, clear water. The food was consistently delicious, with fresh, creative meals served in a relaxed communal setting.||What really stood out, though, was the staff. Every single person was kind, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about our experience. Salim, in particular, went above and beyond to help us purchase a local wood carving, coordinating with artisans in Sorong and ensuring it all went smoothly.||We were also deeply impressed by the Raja Ampat SEA Centre, which Papua Explorers supports. Their work training locals in diving and conservation, and supporting nearby villages, added a meaningful layer to our stay—we felt like our visit helped, in a small way, to support this remarkable region.||This was more than just a trip; it was a magical, heart-filled experience we’ll never forget.

This place is so wonderful, I don't know where to begin. •The food was delicious. Truly delicious, and the pastries are as good as those in the best Parisian bakeries. •The service is wonderful. The cottages are immaculate and fragrant, cleaned daily. •The diving instructors are professional, and the equipment is excellent. Everything meets PADI standards. We did the advance and nitro courses. The reefs are diverse and beautiful. • I searched for a location in this region for many days and I am delighted with this choice.

It's a long, long journey from Canada to Papua Explorers Resort: three planes, transit waits, and a boat trip, but it's worth it! Although most of the other guests were divers, we were snorkelers, and the reefs are splendid for snorkeling. The variety and colours of coral is superb. We saw turtles, sharks, cuttlefish, and giant clams as we drifted along the current, always surrounded in clouds of fish. This was what we came for: a gorgeous reef that is not bleached. Every day was an adventure. ||The rooms were lovely. Very pleasant to recline on the outdoor mattress and watch the sunset before dinner. The staff is caring and friendly. The resort hires people from the village next door, and there's a nice symbiotic relationship. The resort is eco-friendly, supplying shampoo and conditioner that is safe for the coral. We liked the respect and concern for the local people and for the ocean that supports us all.||The only negative surprise was the presence of garbage floating in the water and along the tideline of some of the villages we visited: plastic bottles, etc. I knew garbage was a problem in Bali, but I didn't expect to see it in the far-flung islands of Raja Ampat. What a shame! The resort was always clean, but one cannot ignore that the there's a problem. It's a global one. The resort is an example of responsible tourism. We highly recommend it!

We arrived with hopes of experiencing some of the scenes shared online in Raja Ampat. The team at Papua Explorers did not disappoint! ||The diving locations coupled with the local dive guide’s knowledge and enthusiasm to share these experiences with us was amazing.||We would have missed out on some of the more camouflaged animals if it wasn’t for the guides keen eye. Shout out to Apri, Martin and Clive! ||The accommodation was fantastic/ beautiful and peaceful. Loved the overwater pondoks. ||The staff were friendly and attentive learning our names gave the experience a more personal touch.||The food was delicious (loved the fish curry and vegetable fritters!) and we never went hungry.||Again an amazing experience both above and under the water.||Heads up for future traveler's: Only thing to be aware of is that if you are only there for a week you may only be able to do one or two excursions. We missed out on Melissa’s Garden and Pyainemo, as we chose the Wayag Trip instead (they were on the same day). We loved the Wayag trip (one of our dives we saw 10 mantas!!). However it would have been great to have been able to do both (we appreciate that we would have had to stay longer to accommodate multiple excursions). ||Overall an amazing experience and one we will never forget!! Thanks so much Papua Explorers team :)

Would definitely recommend it to you.
