Good Golf Is An Adventure Sport

"Set within the Albufera, a national park, on the coast just to the south of the city of Valencia, El Saler is one of continental Europe’s most highly regarded golf courses." - Mark Fedeli

Fabulous location in setting of peace and nature. Great looking golf course. Good parking. Great swimming pool. Good beach. Close to great lagoon with birds and fish and boat rides. |But - the hotel/parador was disappointing. |Staff ok but not friendly or warm. |Hotel is spacious but many areas are not clean and not inviting. The bar and terrace area very dirty with bird droppings and thick dust. |Room is spacious but also looking tired. |Restaurants disappointing. Lacking service, food average and we just felt unwelcome. |Breakfast and its offerings are unclear. Coffee machines not functioning- you need to ask for coffee and hot milk. The offerings on buffet ok but fresh fruit not great. Lots of things running out and not replaced as not enough staff. Staff doing their best but it was all a bit disappointing. |If you advertise as 5* firstly it needs to be pristine, then everything needs to be top quality. And El Saler falls short. Such a pity, so much potential.

This was our annual holiday in this wonderful hotel. We love the tranquillity, hospitality and location. The views are absolutely amazing and the proximity to the sea makes it a super place to stay. Our son played golf most days - he said it was a great course, challenging and thoroughly enjoyable. The staff are welcoming and they go out of their way to make sure customers are delighted.|We used the Spa and most of the hotel's facilities - the Spa is a great place to really relax.|In the evenings we ate in the bar area - the food choice, quality and service was excellent.|Final point - the Director of this hotel is always visible and engaging with the guests. His attention to detail and management of this hotel is very special.

Very special location and wonderful staff! We don’t play golf but, if you do, you would love to play here!||There’s a lovely “Nature Walk” and, of course, great, quiet beach.||The pool, poolside and poolside service are very good.||The smart restaurant food really was delicious! The casual restaurant also very nice…||Lovely breakfast and great terrace, you can see tortoises ;)

Returning to this parador after 30 years, we were very satisfied with the changes and improvements. Rooms are quiet and comfortable. The pool and adjacent beach are great. Facilities are very good. And the location is great for excursions and also for visiting the city of Valencia. The weather was great, and we are looking forward to repeat our stay!

Poor experience! ||On our way to the airport, my wife and I thought we would visit the hotel to check out the golf course as we were hoping to book a week with friends next Spring. We were concerned that the golf course might not be good enough having read mixed reviews.||Well, after driving for an hour to the Parador and looking forward to seeing the golf course (and hotel), we were stopped at the front barrier and told we could not enter the grounds without paying 30 euros. ||We explained what we were planning to do but were told the barrier would not go up without payment. We then had to reverse back up the drive and rejoin the main road.||We have stayed at Paradors before and never paid an entrance fee before booking. (Or indeed any other hotel around the world!)||No idea therefore what the golf course was like and we shall never know.||Strange business practice to turn down a potential €2000 for €30?

We had an amazing time playing golf and dining at the hotel. They have everything a golfer needs and wants - driving range, putting greens, chipping area next to pool, etc… The only issues were undercooked burgers, completely raw, at the quick restaurant. The most ridiculous thing of the stay was the cost of doing laundry. We washed 3 t-shirts, 6 collared shirts, 3 pants, 4 shorts, and underwear (we didn’t get anything ironed, just washed and dried) - the hotel charged us 178€! It was hilarious when I got the bill….

I visited this place for a four day golfing holiday with friends. The location and golf course are great. The Hotel is getting old and needs an update. There were several power outages. The management is terrible. Staff is partially fully unorganised. Hardly anybody speaks English. The final bill was in Spanish and very confusing. For a non Spanish speaker this is very untrustworthy. Please wake up!

We arrived at Parador de El Saler quite late, around 11 pm, exhausted after a long journey. Unfortunately, nobody offered to help with our luggage, so we managed it ourselves. Our expectations were high, especially for the spa, but we were disappointed to discover you have to reserve even just to enter, so we missed our chance to relax there. Dining at the hotel was another challenging experience. When we entered the restaurant, it felt deserted—no host, no waitstaff, almost like it wasn't open, even though one table had guests with drinks. After waiting in vain, we moved to a lounge area where most guests had gathered. However, things didn't improve. We waited an eternity just for menus as the staff appeared inattentive and were rarely around. The waitstaff looked surprisingly disheveled and unhygienic, and sadly, no one seemed comfortable speaking English. When our burgers arrived, it only added to our frustration. The patties were barely cooked—almost raw—and served without any sauce, just bitter cabbage. Honestly, my very first attempt at making a burger was infinitely tastier than this disaster. I can’t understand how someone so inept could be employed in a professional kitchen. The service truly deserves special mention—unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. Trying to get the bill became a surreal scene: waving hands, calling out—yet completely ignored. When we finally approached a waiter with long dark hair standing at the cash register, he astonishingly walked away to prepare cocktails, ignoring us completely. We had to wait another ten minutes before another waiter finally noticed us. To top it off, half of the tables were dirty, blankets were nowhere to be found, and there was a catastrophic shortage of staff throughout the entire hotel. Even our room was marked by dirty walls covered in black scuffs and spots, though I must admit, the overall cleanliness was decent otherwise. The golf courses looked beautiful, perhaps the only redeeming feature of our visit. If you’re planning to visit Parador de El Saler, definitely come prepared to enjoy a few hours of golf, but remember to bring your own food if you don’t want to go hungry!
