Parador of Cardona

I stayed for 4 days over Christmas and was not disappointed by this wonderful hotel and their staff. The town of Cardona is a place that is probably more suited to a visit during spring, summer and autumn. Everywhere was either uphill or downhill and I had to back track 10 miles to get fuel for my car but the people I met were friendly so no harm done. I will recommend it to my friends but would suggest that a 2 day visit is probably more suitable unless you like walking. Plan to revisit in the summer. I will of course stay at the Parador and if this is a sample of the other places in the group I will be looking to visit other places in the future.

Parador de Cardona has typical Parador quality rooms, good sized, clean, really hot water. Desk staff were very friendly and helpful. This parador has thin walls or doors or odd acoustics and you can hear everything that is outside your room very clearly. The views are stunning. If you go into town take the footpath, it's a good workout if you want to get your steps in. The cafeteria worked well, had good food and was open for a good amount of time. The parador's full restaurant service was sub-par, and the food was not the best either. I would not eat there again. Give an overall 2 stars mainly for (IMO) the poor service and food in the main restaurant.

Whilst this Parador maintained the standards we have become used to, the walk up the hill from the car park was a challenge. My advice is drive up the hill to deposit your luggage (there is a car park at the top if you are lucky enough to get a space). The restaurant was excellent but we noticed several errors in ordering some things, in our case a glass of wine instead of the bottle we ordered. In fairness, the staff were really friendly and obliging but it didn’t quite give the impression they were all at the top of their game. However, any minor lapses did not restrict our enjoyment of our meal, which was excellent.

We woke in the morning to cloudless skies, with a river of mist rolling through the valley below our bedroom window. It was a very beautiful and different sight. The Parador de Cardona truly is a castle in the sky! Had a nice walk all round the castle before a lovely breakfast in the restaurant. Outstanding service; and outstanding value for money. A must-stay if you are in the area.

The place is very unique but the hotel itself is a bit outdated. The breakfast was rather poor with very few choices. The staff is very friendly though. In conclusion, worth a visit but do not expect too much.

A beautiful place with a gorgeous scenery. Common areas were beautiful and cozy. The room was quite large, comfy beds. Breakfast was high quality, though lacked a bit of variety. Churros could have had hot chocolate. Parking was a bit complicated, and accessibility inside the building was not quite full.

We arrived upon check in the older gentleman at the front desk must have been in a mood the moment he saw my passport and saw i was not from Spain his tone changed and was cut & dry. It didnt bother me but I didnt feel welcomed. The rest of the stay I avoided going up to him and would purposely get jn a different line to talk to his desk partner to ask a question or check out. I was simply not in the mood for his attitude. Other than that I loved this place! Clean, elegant and the dinning room staff was excellent! The sweetest most attentive staff was in that dinning room. Food was amazing! We stayed 2 nights and got to do the Salt cave tour and hotel tour both worth it! Everything was 10/10 except for the guy at the front desk I give him a 5/10

Absolutely stunning. The parador and its location are breathtaking. A completely different place to stay. Suite was very spacious and well equipped. Only criticism - the shower/bath and bathroom floor were treacherously slippery when wet. Mats are needed. The service and cuisine well matched the location. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent.

This was most definitely an interesting stop on our travels through Northern Spain. For sure I thought this was a return to the time of the Middle Ages it was wonderful to standi high atop while viewing over the charismatic town of Cardona. We also visited Minyona Tower and a church, both dating from the 11th century. We were very happy that we stop in this wonderful town to visit the castle with its towers, walls and gothic features. The lunch was also very good along with the wine. Well we had lots of wine.

What a great spot for spending a night to relax and eat well. The Mid Evil castle is a national treasure. It's very well kept and clean. The rooms have been redone and bathrooms are very nice including the towels. The restaurant food was spectacular. The highlight was the Cannelloni and service!

I highly recommend coming to Parador de Cardona! Why? Because this is a one and lifetime experience and such an adventure. we cruised around the different towns nearby- ate dinner at the Castle; Our servings were very Medieval - I ordered lamb, hubby ordered fish- our plates had no side dishes to accommodate the main course. My 5lb lamb thigh Was served with nothing else on my plate. Very interesting I thought

Everything about this place hits the mark. Picture a ridiculously old fortress with hundreds of years of history turned into an amazing hotel. Plaques explaining the history throughout the years hang everywhere as well, which as history nerds, my wife and I scoured the hotel looking for. The rooms are spacious and well furnished and the common areas are fabulous. Dinner was served in a huge hall that used to be part of the church and you enter through a former audience cheer that used to ALSO be a torture room. The food was very good and would recommend the taste of Catalonia with the lamb, sausages, croquettes, and bread. Dinner was topped with a crime brûlée and dessert wine. All delicious! This is a great romantic getaway and my wife and I would recommend to anyone looking for the same.

We were staying in this beautiful paradore so dined at the restaurant. It was beautiful and cozy lights for the holidays. The food and red wine selections were excellent. For a starter, I had the terrine and mushroom soup - both exceptional. Tenderloin and sea bass entrees were a hit. Reasons I did not give it 5 stars: understaffed so service was lacking; everything somewhat salty (maybe from the town's salt mines); breakfast was poorly staffed for a buffet, so lacked table service and restocking food.

This quaint, hilltop hotel inside the Castle of Cardona was wonderful. Our room was not luxurious, but it was very comfortable and came with a wonderful view of the countryside, salt mine and the small town of Cardona. The parador's location offers stunning views both inside and outside. The restaurant inside the parador is reserved for guests only and serves stunning food. It is not cheap, but well worth it. The Medieval cloister, ramparts and tower are all amazing to explore. Wi-fi is very, very slow.
