Yum! I loved the BEEF and the MUSHROOM Empanadas! The crust was delicious and everything tasted fresh and homemade. The sauces are wonderful too. The white one was my favorite. I cannot wait to try every empanada on the menu!

Google
Alfajores Dessert It is absolutely fabulous. I just got it to try it out. I saw it while I was walking around then I didn’t think about it went to my car in the parking lot, which is far away the moment I tried I had to come back to the place just to tell them how delicious it is. Thank you so much. It is absolutely made my day. Oh man so good.

Google
I came here two times in one evening because their empanadas are so fire! Things you should know: I. PARKING Within liberty station, so there's various, free parking lots surrounding the building. II. SERVICE Timely III. QUALITY I wish I had bought a jar of their signature sauce before I left San Diego because wow.. so much flavor! Our favorite Empanada was the Malbec Beef! Had to get more than one. IV. CAPACITY There wasn't much of a line the two times we came on a Sunday afternoon. Probably because they're so efficient.

Google
The worst empanadas in my whole life. I felt ashamed of sharing these empanadas with friends. The filling needed more flavor and it was too mushy. I'm from Argentina and we are very proud of our culture and our food. So I was excited to have a great time but unfortunately it didn't happen.

Google
Good casual spot to get a delicious empanada for a good price. It is juicy and very well baked. It is also very well seasoned, specially the Malbec beef and super recomend it. I ordered the combo of 3 and picked one chicken, one malbec beef and one spinach with feta. Chicken was the one I liked less. Good service, the attendent was kind and efficient. Don't miss the opportunity to get empanadas during your visit in market.

Google
Empanadas are a bit blonde and some of them are really skimpy on the filling. Got a shrimp one and it was half empty. The spicy beef was the best one I got. Chicken was a little dry.

Google
Delicious empanadas and a great spot for a quick bite! I tried the Malbec Beef empanada, which was flavorful on its own, but was really kicked up a notch by the chimichurri sauce. With over a dozen fillings and three sauces, there are endless possibilities! The food court itself can get very crowded, but there is lovely outdoor seating available.

Google
These are such delicious empanadas! They were baked perfectly; not too dry. I tried the Beef and the Mushroom and they were both heavenly. There was so much flavor to them. I can’t wait to try every single other kind because they all sound so good! The price is great, and it is such a quick, easy meal because they’re already cooked and kept hot so there’s no wait time. I will be back very soon!

Yelp
Want a "hold me over food?" Ed and I split one empanada. We wanted to make sure they were good. THEY WERE GOOD !!!!! Going for more!!!

Yelp
I've heard San Diego has the most consistent weather anywhere. Not too hot never too cold. The same is true of Paraná. This legendary fixture in the Liberty Public Market offers some tasty empanadas, some questionable. I really enjoyed their signature salsas. To me the biggest reason to come here. My BIL explained to me that these are traditional Argentinian empanadas and as such, I have no idea what I'm talking about (respectfully). So take this with a grain of salt. I haven't much exposure to true Argentinian fare. I'm just used to these being more flaky with more filling. A must try is the Alfajores. A cookie sandwich filled with dulce de leche. You can also get a box of water, which I had never heard of until today. The people were very nice even though the atmosphere wasn't the most relaxing.

Yelp
I came on a Thursday evening. I had a hard time finding this place. I didn't realize that it was a small kiosk in the middle of the walkway near the kids playground at WTC. There's very limited seating inside. The lady at the counter was courteous. I got the happy hour special, buy 6 get 1 free. The Malbec Beef was surprisingly good even though it was sweet due to the raisins. It was so different than any other. The crust was crispy. 5/5 Spicy beef was not too spicy. It was OK. Could've used more Beef inside though. 4/5 The chicken Chipotle was OK. Nothing special 3/5 Margherita was like a pizza in an empanada. It was OK but it didn't work for me. 3/5 I loved that they had different flavors, it was almost hard to decide. They didn't have everything so next time I would like to try the other flavors.

Yelp
This was a delicious bite! We stopped by Liberty Public Market and picked up a small bite. The staff was quick and friendly and the line moved fairly quickly on a Sunday afternoon. Within the Liberty Public Market, this was one of the stalls that was recommended! We got the beef (seasoned ground beef, green olive, roasted red bell pepper, sautéed onion) and chicken chipotle (chipotle seasoned shredded chicken, cilantro, roasted red bell pepper, green onion, sautéed onion). There was plenty of filling so each bite was packed with flavor. Both empanadas were delicious with the sauces! We also got a Matte Latte - it was my first time trying yerba mate and it was refreshing! Its basically a herbal tea and was really good chilled.

Yelp
I just love those empanadas! Large selection of fillings. My favorite is the chicken one, but the mushroom, 4 cheeses ones are also delicious! They are very reasonable in price for their size.

Yelp
We came in on a very busy Saturday evening. The market was packed. We had to wait in a short line. We ordered a dozen empanadas we had to wait 10 or 15 mins for some to come out of the oven which wasn't surprising considering how busy it was. We went and got some donuts while we waited. When they gave us our order they gave us a complimentary cookie which I thought was very nice. The only downside is it can be difficult to get in and out of liberty station.

Yelp
Located in Liberty Station in SD, this is a vendor in the popular food court. They specialize in empanadas. I love empanadas, but I have to say that this place isn't my favorite. The fillings are nice, but I prefer a flakier crust.
google avatar

Yelp
You can never go wrong with empanadas and these never miss. They have an extensive menu of unique and traditional empanadas, packed with filling and great sauce options. This was by far the longest line at the public market, and I'm not sure why since all the empanadas are ready and kept hot, even just getting the two empanadas took them a minute to put in the bag and hand to us. It's a great appetizer to get if you go to the public market, they just need to speed up their orders

Yelp
Empanadas: Pockets of happiness since 100 BC! Empanadas are a traditional South American dish that have been around for centuries. They can be filled with a variety of different ingredients, including meats, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables. It's *the* hot pocket before Hot Pockets became a thing! I ordered the Rajas, Cheeseburger, and Chicken Chipotle empanadas with the three sauces [chimichurri, chipotle chimichurri, and creamy green olive] to take to the airport with us. In our haste, we left the sauces in the hotel. Oops. Regardless, the empanadas were so good, even had traveled 354 miles on a one-hour flight to Phoenix. I think the cheeseburger was my favorite, but the rajas was a close contender. I wish I had the opportunity to try them with the sauce, especially since I'm a big chimichurri lover and the creamy green olive sounded interesting. Come visit Paraná! You won't regret it.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I split 3 empanadas: Jackfruit, Chipotle Chicken and Mushrooms. Surprisingly, the chipotle chicken was both of our least favorite of the three. I loved the jackfruit, but I think I'd have to say mushrooms was my favorite. Lots of flavor in both of them and I would happily get them again. The biggest downfall, in my opinion, was how thick the empanada dough was. I ended up just ripping some of it off of every bite because there was too much for me. I was also very happy with the quick service I received. The girl I chatted with for a bit was bubbly and fun and made me feel good about eating there. I would give this place 3.5 stars, but I'm going to round to 4. Worth eating again if I'm at Liberty Station, but I wouldn't go out of my way to drive over and get them.

Yelp
I tried the spicy empanadas and I was pleasantly surprised! They were the perfect amount of spicy and flavorful! I wish they were a bit bigger but otherwise I was very happy with them!

Yelp
I don't make it to Liberty Public Market often been when I do this spot is a MUST stop by spot for me. The prices are great considering how much filling is in each empanada and I love the variety of flavors they have to pick from. There is typically a line but it does go by fast this time around I did the 3 empanadas from $10.85 I think? This spot is towards the back side of the Public Market if you are entering from the front grass patio area. But always a must stop for me, this time I got the chipotle chicken and both beef flavored ones. So good and filling!

Yelp
Hands down some of the best empanadas. I tried a Margherita one and a chicken one. There are several things that make these top notch. The crust s perfect: flavorful, flaky and thin. Not too doughy. This is where many empanadas go wrong but Paraná Empanadas has set the bar high. I love that the fillings are finely chopped and cooked with a balance of seasonings before being put into the crust. The other thing I love is that they imprint the empanadas with letters so you can identify the flavors if you order a variety to take home, genius. No more cutting into them to guess the flavors. This eatery has mastered the balance of flavor. Their Chimichurri sauce is no exception. Some people like it super spicy with red pepper flakes and other like it more bland but my vote goes to perfectly balance and Paraná's sauce gets first place.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing empanadas they are flavorful and juicy. The green sauce is a great topping to add and it's not slide my for the people who don't like spice. When you walk up to the stand the staff is welcoming and happy to answer any questions about the empanadas They also offer soda to go along with your empanadas The reason I didn't give this establishment 5 stars is because even thought they are flavorful I have had better empanadas. I prefer empanadas that also have egg inside. This is just a personal preference but it add to the flavor. This is still a great place to stop if you are in the area

Yelp
I've been walking by this spot for months and finally checked it out and was not disappointed! This is a very cute spot just a couple of blocks from Pacific Beach. I was pleasantly surprised by the space itself. From the outside it looks like a rather small shop but they have a beautiful patio out back. It would be the perfect place to work from, especially because they have a great mid-day deal of empanadas. The service was quick and easy because they're empanadas are premade. Despite that, they came to us hot and crispy. We got 4 empanadas, the Margherita, Raja, Malbec Beef, and Mushrooms. We were thankful that they stamp the initials of the empanada on it, as you can see in the photos. The empanada themselves were not the biggest I've had but perfectly crisp and packed with flavor. My favorite was definitely the Mushrooms and the Malbec Beef. I will definitely be back for their lunch special!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service from Angela and her associate. I'm back in town for a short visit and stopped by. They have a buy 4, get 1 free bacon special. They also have a buy 12 special discount. So great time to come eat some empanadas for a great price. I got 4+4+4 with 2 free bacons. Angela printed out a label of each bag's empanadas so I know who they're for. The package was very neat and tidy. It's early in the morning so the place is on quieter side. It'll get packed later on from past experience.

Yelp
We happened to come across their booth at the North Park mini-Farmers Market on Thursday evening before the concert at the Observatory in North Park. We tried the mushroom, spinach, and beef empanadas and they were so good. They are slightly bigger than another nearby restaurant. The pastry tastes substantial but not fluffy (perfect), and the insides melting my gustatory self--the chimichurri sauce was also divine. As I snapped photos, I realized the name of the place was the city I visited 30 years ago in Argentina. Fond memories! They had outdoor tables at the cross street of North Park Way & 29th St. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food selections at UTC is great Parana Empanadas Argentina looked so good The choice they offer had a wide range of ingredients service they Weber very friendly and wee all know the ambience at the mall is always good .

Yelp
Best empanadas! My favorites are the Jackfruit, Spinach and Mushroom. I've been to the exact location and I've ordered them for delivery and they had the same quality and presentation. Just delicious!
google avatar

Maegan S.

Yelp
Quick service, great quality. What's better than having a delicious empanada in hand while you walk around liberty station? I love that there are several options to choose from. I ordered the Rajas and Jackfruit empanadas. Paired with their different sauces and my goodness was it divine! The store is located within the Public Market but they make their presence known with beautiful white and blue decor. Definitely recommend to anyone who visits Liberty Station.
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots in San Diego! I love Parana, and have been to both their UTC and Liberty Station locations. Their empanadas are decently sized and the chimichurri sauces are delightful. You really can't go wrong with any of the flavors here--some of my favorites are the Malbec beef, chicken chipotle, rajas, and the spinach. I have ordered online and they keep them warm so when you pick them up it is piping hot. Both of the locations I have been to are small stands and the staff is very friendly. I've also worked with them to place a large catering order and they are quick to respond. It's a casual grab and go, and I can't wait until my next round of empanadas!

Yelp
Saturday at 2pm Food/Drinks: Malbec Beef and Jackfruit Empanada; Malbec Beef is was the better of the two. My friend recommended it and definitely a must try. 2 was enough for a quick snack. The sauces it came with were also good. I loved mixing the green and white sauce. Ambiance: The place is small and there is seating outside. There is some seating inside, but I don't think they clean it very often. Service: Ordering was quick and easy Take-Out Packaging: Plastic utensils and sauce containers. Paper trays and bags to hold the food.

Yelp
Pananá Empanadas sells some of the best empanadas we've ever tasted. Full Stop. We've come here a half dozen times and the empanadas are both fresh and tasty. If you are not sure what to take home, do as we did our first time and dine in. The only problem with that, is you'll end up liking everything you taste... they're so good. I would recommend buying a dozen for $29.88. On the crust, they are marked by two letters, indicating what they are. Easy, Peasy (see photo). I've listed some of your choices below: * Chicken -- seasoned shredded chicken, roasted red bell pepper, green onion, sautéed onion. * Beef -- traditionally seasoned ground beef, green olive, roasted red bell pepper, sautéed onion. * Margherita -- fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, parmesan, fresh basil. * Eggplant & Cheese -- seasoned eggplant, mozzarella, parmesan, roasted tomatoes, sautéed onion. * Rajas & Cheese -- roasted chilies, mozzarella, corn, roasted tomatoes, sautéed onion. * Corn & Cheese -- corn, mozzarella, roasted red bell pepper, sautéed onion. * Bean & Cheese -- pinto beans, mozzarella, jalapeños, sautéed onion. * Spinach & Cheese -- spinach, mozzarella, feta, sautéed onion. * Five Cheese -- seasoned mix of mozzarella, provolone, monterrey jack, parmesan, and ricotta. * Mushroom & Cheese -- champignon, portobello, porcini, mozzarella, parmesan, sautéed onion. Btw, don't forget to ask for extra chimichurri sauce, they have two types. You'll thank me later. Enjoy!

Yelp
Very delicious go to snack/meal I went to Food market with my family for the past weekend and wanted something pretty lite to eat. I'm glad that I chose this location. Parking: I went on a Saturday and the parking up front was full, but I was able to find a spot that was roughly a minute away which is good. Service: The server was patient with me as I took my order due to them having over 10 different types of empanadas. I decided to order the Chicken Chipotle empanada and she then mentioned which type of sauce I would like to try. I went for the Chimichurri and I'm glad that I did! The empanada was warm and not too hot which is good. I was able to finish it within minutes which hit the spot. Ambiance: Being in a food market there is a good amount of traffic of people everywhere. That's to be expected on a Saturday afternoon, but I do enjoy how based off your entry into the market, you could either see it upon entering or leaving the area. Overall: I enjoyed myself, the customer service, and the food here. I'll definitely be coming back to try the different flavors that they have! 5/5 ( I already took a bite and the photo didn't look good)
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
This is my second time trying the empanadas and they are great! Good flavor! Warm and fresh! I got the beef empanadas, service was great and quick, the ambiance is in the public market at liberty station so it's a hustle and bustle feel/vibe. Everything was great, later I did feel heavy after two empanadas so it's rich and heavy with their ingredients, but was well worth it.
google avatar

Dawn G.

Yelp
Great flavor and selection. Don't forget the Chimichurri it's all good. Received good recommendations from server/cashier. Went with 3 for $10.95 (or you can get 1 @ $3.90) beef, spicy beef and spinach. I preferred the regular chimichurri over the Chipotle and the white creamy one. It's located on the Public Market at liberty station so it's very casual. 3 empanadas was a bit much for one person cuz they were pretty filling and I would've liked to try some other things at the market. So if that's something you may want to do get one if solo but there if sharing.
google avatar

Ali R.

Yelp
The blue cheese ones are my all time favorite- I have had the other flavors.... I bought 12 of them today! Yum! The olive sauce pairs really well. I'm in heaven!
google avatar

Kevin T.

Yelp
Pretty darn good (and quick) Empanada stop in the middle of the Liberty Public Market. Of the things we managed to try, that one Malbec Beef empanada we had from here was definitely *very* juicy and sorely tempted us to try more. Flaky exterior, moist, and bursting with flavor. It almost didn't need the small plastic tub of salsa, but the additional acid helped complete it. We stayed true to our "eat something small from everything" journey, but this place nearly had us stray from the way. Excellent snack or go for broke and have a full meal.
google avatar

Lianne A.

Yelp
Got the 3 pack of empanadas (Malbec Beef, Jackfruit, and Chicken Chipotle)! I always enjoy coming to Paraná at Liberty Market Station and definitely recommend this spot for a delicious treat/meal!
google avatar

Suz C.

Yelp
Super yummy empanadas located in LPM! Lots of different fillings and also sauces! The lady who helped me was really nice! A really cute and helpful detail... the letters on the empanadas let you know the fillings you got! I thought that was a great detail they came up with!!! Can't wait to go back and order other flavors to try!
google avatar

Irene D.

Yelp
One of the best empanadas in town!!!! To top it off complimentary dipping sauces- chimichurri and creamy green olive sauce were soooo good! The location is perfect inside of Liberty Public Market. Staff were friendly. The only thing was I wished they labeled their empanadas especially when ordering a dozen.
google avatar

Consuelo M.

Yelp
Delicious empanadas! I've tried the beef and blue cheese ones. I also love their chimichurri and creamy green olive sauce. Sign up to get points each time you shop.

Yelp
I was planning to eat at Liberty Public Market and, given that there are dozens of food stalls to choose from, I wanted to choose wisely. Paraná caught my eye, as I haven't had empanadas in years. Got an order of their Malbec beef and guava empanadas to try out. The verdict: 1) Malbec beef-- SUBLIME. Juicy, tender, and rich. You can definitely taste the red wine (Malbec) cooked into the meat. Absolutely melts in your mouth. The pastry outside is hearty and crusty, but with just a hint of flakiness to leave you wanting more. My regret is not ordering more of these! 15/10 2) Guava-- honestly, a disappointment. Not enough filling, and I think the guava is mixed with cream cheese. Didn't really care for the taste, and the crust for it was too thick and doughy. Not a huge fan. 6/10 Empanadas are affordable at $3-4 each. I would definitely just stick with the savory ones, especially the Malbec beef-- I'll be dreaming about that one for a long time! XD

Amelia

Yelp
Delish I'm from Chile so our empanadas are slightly different but at Paraná they have such a great variety and all so delicious I have become a fan Not to mention the service is equally exceptional
google avatar

Yanli X.

Yelp
We tried the malbec beef empanada. We ordered just one empanada and were able to get it within a minute or two. The filling was flavorful and juicy. However the outside crust of the empanada was really hard and dry. It was not crumbly at all so it was impossible to bite into the empanada without the crust squeezing out all the filling. Definitely would have given a higher rating if the crust was better.
google avatar

Shamene M.

Yelp
This spot is inside liberty station market. We had never tried all the flavors before but this time we got to! We tried Beef * Malbec Beef Chicken Spicy Beef * Raias & Cheese BBQ Chicken Margherita Mushroom & Cheese Chicken Chipotle Spinach & Cheese Mushroom & Cheese Corn & Cheese * Five Cheese " Spicy Chorizo Vegan * Yerba Mate Lemonade * dulce de leche Alfaiors My favorite was the chicken chipotle. The goal is to make you taste I have to say I really love each flavor. Argentina every time you take a bite of an empanada with chimichurri sauce, a dulce de leche alfajor, or a yerba mate drink. I've been coming here for years and love trying a different flavor empanada each time. love how they have the flavor stamped in the dough, so you know which kind you are trying! The spot is nice and clean and decorated cute. There is seating available. I think it would be nice if the staff would look at you when you get there to acknowledge you. It took a good 6 minutes for either of the staff to look at us, they were just opening and busy but a hello would have been nice. When they did take our order she was very kind and helpful. The empanadas were warm and delicious. I would highly recommend!

Yelp
4.5 stars, rounded up. This is the only booth at the market that I consistently stop at; and it's usually to pick-up as I learned early on that these things travel very well! While many places fry their empanadas, they bake them here, making essentially what I can best describe as, portable hand pies. Spicy beef is my favorite, and I rotate between chicken, classic beef and Malbec marinated beef for my other two (I get the 3-pack). My most recent visit, I couldn't find another booth that caught my interest so I ate in. Spicy beef was the firmest, and the others, very mushy. I really prefer these room-temp or even cold. In order to ease my slight disappointment in the texture, I went ahead and got three more to bring home. Overall, a favorite stop for me in Liberty Station. Pros: - simple menu - chimichurri is fantastic! - easy ordering - quick, grab n' go Cons: - some filling textures a bit mushy when fresh
google avatar

Yelp
I've been hearing about Liberty Public Market so on a trip to SD, we stopped by and stumbled upon Parana Empanadas. We ordered the chicken, spicy beef and regular beef with all 3 dipping sauces. All I can say is WOW! The empanadas were so flavorful, the sauces definitely enhanced the flavors of the empanadas. It was so delicious, we came back for 3 more.
google avatar

Bo K.

Yelp
One of the better empanadas I've had in the states with a variety of options. The fillings were yummy, something about the pastry made me want more. In Liberty Station Market, this will be one of my go-to spots for a bite. You know it must be good with the lines!
google avatar

Camy K.

Yelp
Normally they have a line but the line was short today so we tried them. The pastry itself and filling could be a tad better but it's still one of the better ones I've had. Craving empanadas in the area then they are worth a try.
google avatar

Jun-Jun L.

Yelp
These empanadas were super fresh when I got them. I got their mushroom one and spinach one with chimichurri sauce and they didn't disappoint at all. I loved the flakey crust and and how freshly baked they were. The only disappointing thing about the empanadas was that I completely forgot to use my chimichurri sauce. I inhaled the empanadas because I was hungry and they were just that delicious. I'm definitely going to make it a point to try their other flavors the next time I'm in town!
google avatar

Cara H.

Yelp
Our must have item every time our family goes to Liberty Station! So fresh and such wonderful flavors, the yummy chimmichuri sauces are my favorite! We love that they have meat and vegetarian options for all of our tastes.
google avatar

Lexi R.

Yelp
The mushroom empanada was pretty good! The crust was decent. Nothing special. But what I really liked was the filling. It had mushrooms, onions, and cheese. Also loved the two sauces it came with. You can get 1 for $3.60, 3 for $10.17, and 12 for $32.88.
google avatar

Tara S.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place more. It is a cute little shop in the Market Place. The prices seemed reasonable. Lots of choices. Plus, they were pretty quick to serve us to go. The beef and chicken ones were decent. I really enjoyed the Spinach and Cheese. I appreciate them stamping and labeling each empanada because it helps if someone is Vegetarian or not a fan of certain flavors. The Guava Empanada ruined it for me. It was not Guava flavored at all. It was a very light almost berry tasting thin layer of cream cheese. I will save you the experiment. It was gross. Not at all what a Guava anything should taste like. I may go back for the other empanadas of I am in the area, but I will never order their "Guava" Empanada again.
google avatar

Karlie S.

Yelp
This empanada spot inside Liberty Public Market serves up yummy empanadas. I liked the spicy beef one and it packs some good latent heat. The Malbec beef one is on the sweeter side. Chimmichurri sauce is good. The line can be long but it moves fast.
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
I was walking through the market before dinner out across the street, and wanted a quick bite somewhere. I have had their empanadas several times before, but this time got a single margherita empanada! I opted for that flavor as I have yet to try that one, and it was good. I did think it would be more solid of a bite than runny, as it was more on the creamy side than tomato/basil, but it was still was warm, fresh (despite going at the end of day), and enjoyable to fill the time. Would keep coming back again.

Mia P.

Yelp
The veggie Empanadas were great. The person at the counter was very helpful. I got the chicken empanada which wasn't great, the sauce they mixed the chicken in was a little off and tasted like those frozen taquitos, so if you like that taste, definitely try the chicken empanada. The ones I liked were the corn and spinach ones. It is a grab and go situation but they are very filling

Yelp
This Argentinian eatery is another win for the Liberty Public Market in San Diego. They have 13 different types of empanadas. The dough that contains the fillings is slightly dry but nothing to cry about. I have had empanadas that have softer dough and better color because they have an egg washed coating. This by no means is a negative statement for these delicious empanadas. I tried their 2 most popular empanadas. The first, malbec beef (24-hour ground beef marinated in Argentinian wine, raisins, sautéed onion). I did not get enough taste and flavor out of this one. Nice bite for the dough. The second, the spicy beef. This was superb. A good dough bite but a very flavorful and spicy filling that pours out to your taste buds. So far, this one is my favorite.
