28 Best Things to Do in Barcelona

"Barcelona is famous for its buildings being works of art; this is one of the few examples of a garden stepping up to that level. On the wilderness spectrum, Barcelona’s oldest park is beauty-salon manicured: splendid temples, lily-glazed ponds, sculptures of mythological figures, and a cypress maze that’s clearly given the gardener’s pruning shears a workout. The labyrinth is definitely the standout feature, a maze made of elaborate swirls of thick foliage. It recreates the Greek myth of Theseus destroying the Minotaur (a part-human, part-bull monster) to fall in love with Ariadne. A similar fate awaits those who make it to the center—no bovine slaying required, but you will find love in the form of a statue of Cupid. If that all sounds a bit soppy, scoff later: the maze is harder than it looks." - Gemma Askham

24 Mesmerizing Mazes and Labyrinths

"The archetypical hedge maze sitting in the center of Barcelona’s Parc del Laberint d’Horta (Labyrinth Park of Horta) is one of the city’s hidden gems, having delighted visitors for centuries making it the oldest garden in the city. Work on the labyrinth and the surrounding gardens began in 1791 as part of a wealthy estate owned by the Desvalls family. The maze and its attendant Italian-inspired terraces were part of the original construction that is today known as the Neoclassical section of the park. The majority of the rest of the park was created in the mid-1800s, and is now known as the Romantic portion, however as the name implies, it is the central labyrinth that really steals the show. The tall manicured hedge walls of the maze create over 2,000 feet of twists and turns for visitors to get lost in. Anyone who makes it to the center will find a statue of Eros, Greek God of Love, implying that the romantic part of the garden existed even before any expansion. There are also pavilions that overlook the maze and feature their own statues of Greek gods. There is also a picturesque pond at one end. The gardens were given over to the city of Barcelona in the 1960s and are now a public park. Since it is set off from the regular tourist strips the Horta labyrinth remains a magical little secret for those willing to get a little lost." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

"The oldest garden in the city, the Laberint d’Horta was once the property of the Marquise Desvalls. Explore lush green spaces in search of striking statuary and plant life, then find love—in the figure of Cupid at the center of the neoclassical garden maze. Above the maze there’s a large terrace overlooking the gardens and a charming pavilion with a reflecting pool full of carp. Be sure to pack a picnic, as the snack bar’s selections are limited and overpriced."

This park offers a delightful escape filled with winding paths and lush greenery, making it a perfect outing for families, especially those with kids. The maze is a big hit, encouraging playful exploration and sparking the imagination of little ones as they weave through the tall hedges. It’s not just about the maze; the whole area is well-maintained, providing plenty of space for picnics and relaxation, while the beautiful gardens add to the charm of the experience. Parents will appreciate the safe environment, allowing children to roam freely as they burn off some energy. The serene atmosphere combined with the vibrant colors of the plants creates a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Overall, it’s a lovely place that fosters both fun and tranquility for visitors of all ages.

Google
We stumbled upon this on our first day after we arrived in Barcelona. It is chargeable about €2.00pp apart from Wednesdays and Saturdays I believe. Absolutely stunning buildings and fountains dating back to 1800s. I do have to say we thought there was a maze and waterfall but the maze is being renovated and the waterfall has dried up as there has been a drought for a long time now but worse in recent months :( Apart from that a beautiful place to take a lovely stroll in nature 🌿🪷🦋

Google
This park offers a peaceful escape from city hustle with its stunning neoclassical garden, maze, fountains, and charming sculptures. The labyrinth itself is the main highlight! 🌀 Walking through the maze was so much fun, and reaching the center felt like a mini-adventure. Perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking for a unique experience. Apart from the maze, the park is beautiful and have ponds—making it an ideal spot for a relaxing stroll or a quiet picnic. 🦆🌿 📌 Things to Note: ✅ Entry is free on Sundays & Wednesdays (otherwise, there’s a small fee) ✅ Less crowded compared to other tourist spots ✅ Great for photography 📸✨ ✅ Bring some snacks & water for a relaxed visit If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with a touch of adventure, this park is a must-visit in Barcelona! 🌿🏛️ Would definitely go back! 😊

Google
The labyrinth was closed (and will be for the following two years) without any notice until we arrived, but the rest of what we were able to see was still lovely. The park is clean and well taken care of, and there is still a lot to see without the maze.

Google
Cute and dreamy park, sometimes a bit Alhambra-ish. The labyrinth in January was a bit sad (some of the corridor walls were see through 😅), but still fun. Tons of people doing photo shoots. Free on Wesnesday afternoon.

So magical. The red fish is so pleasing to see and the little fountains. They have renovated the building that is at its entrance and it has an Islamic architecture design, it took me back 1 thousand and 1 nights fairy tales. I am so pleased with its new form and I wish that they open it with the fountain working in the middle.

Google
The parc is currently under construction and looking very run down and not like the photos. It was peaceful here regardless.

Google
Although the old structures are beautiful, the park was not very well maintained, there’s no fish in the pond, just a lot of algae and the maze and main building are closed for reconstruction until 2027. It was also noisy and smelly in some parts of the park with the construction going on so not exactly a peaceful atmosphere. Not really worth paying for, they should make it free until the construction and regrowing of the maze is finished.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful parks I've ever been to. Has a very classical feel to it. There is a maze and a ton of fountains. Also mosquitos are here. They got me. Still, we'll worth the visit.

Yelp
Quite a ways out of the city center. I found it on a list of places in Barcelona to see when you've seen all the standards. https://bnc.lt/gtCg/Y7AS0m8x11 Not an especially scenic walk, past many hospitals, clinics and apartment complexes. There's a big highway along much of the route. Below ground level, but not covered as in town. You're heading towards the end of the L3 line. The park is worth the trip. Fabulous gardens, the maze, and 200+ year old buildings. Some statuary shows its age, but that adds to the charm. If you're over 65, admission is free.

Yelp
This is an 18 century park in the outskirts of Barcelona with nice gardens, some beautiful pavilions, lots of walking, and a maze that is fun to explore and complete. It was probably fantastic when first built but the buildings are crumbling a bit, gardens are still beautiful and there are Koi and turtles in the ponds. Locals take their kids here to play.

Yelp
Our friend who is a local recommended this park to us over Parc Guell. We did both parks in the same day and while Parc Guell is definitely worth seeing, this Parc is special and definitely worth the ride. To get here we took a taxi from Parc Guell and our driver remarked that he'd been driving a cab for years and had never heard of this park! But this place is so beautiful and so worthwhile. It's absolutely gorgeous, lots of roman inspired gardens and architecture. We loved it! Plus the nature features, there are streams and waterfalls. WE SAW A WILD BOAR. I went into the Pyrenees and didn't even see a wild boar there! So neat. The real star of this park is the labyrinth and it's no joke! I walked in super arrogant, claiming I knew the secret to get out of any maze! Whining that it's barely a maze if you don't get to choose your own path. But 20 minutes later I was still in the maze and real cranky about it. Looking back, it was so fun! It is hard to get a taxi out of the park back to the city though, I'd recommend taking the metro.

Yelp
I'm just gonna go ahead and forewarn you now; Jareth, the Goblin King does not live here, and it's not his Labyrinth you're getting lost in even if you do say 'the words'. I guess that's why I was getting such odd looks from the locals.... Well, despite all that, this was indisputably the most beautiful place we visited during our stay in Barcelona. We took the Metro to get there, and then it was bit of hike to get to the top of the actual entrance of the Labyrinth. We walked by a school where some young elementary school children were playing outside. Their laughter, and energetic spirit as they waved at us really added a positive note to our journey, and listening to their perfect Spanish at such a young age made me blush because as an adult brought up in a Spanish speaking household; I'm still trying to figure out the language. We paid 2,32 Euro per person to get inside. Words cannot describe how beautifully kept the Labyrinth and the surrounding gardens are. (see the pics I uploaded, you'll understand what I mean) I know it's going to sound tacky, but during my visit to the Laberint d' Horta, everything was good in the world. I felt really relaxed, and at ease, especially with all the surrounding flowers, plants, statues, and waterfalls. Everything was so lush, green, and vibrant; I really just wanted to absorb everything in as much as possible. Yes, I got lost while walking the Labyrinth, but it's definitely part of the fun, and you'll hear when other people get lost too as the nearby chuckles, and giggles can be an indication of what path you should probably avoid. At the end though you are rewarded with a stunning view of..... but I guess you'll have to go and find out :)

Yelp
One of the most beautiful parks in Barcelona. My friend and I came here after Park Guëll and it was a very peaceful place to get away from the touristy craziness. The park is extremely expansive with many gardens ands buildings located within to explore and photograph. This park is located off the L3 which can take you back to tourism land (Las Ramblas) where you can grab tapas and shop after you've had your fill of nature. Highly recommend! P.s. No admission fee on the Sunday I visted

Yelp
A great little park which is close to the metro. If you're staying in the Gothic Quarter or central area, I highly suggest taking the metro train. The walk which we chose to do after we had lunch , was supposed to take about an hour as per GPS and ended up being more like 2 and we had some pretty crazy streets to climb. The park once we got to it was very nice. Quiet and away from all the rush of the city. It was nice to take the stroll and decompress from all the hustle. The labyrinth gave us something fun to do and otherwise there are some picturesque areas to enjoy birds and aging architecture. It's free to enjoy Wednesday and Sunday which is also nice.

Yelp
I think Parc del Laberint d'Horta is Barcelona's best kept secret. We came across Parc del Laberint d'Horta while researching parks in Barcelona on Yelp, and I am so glad we did! This is an 18th century park and is Barcelona's oldest garden. It was a great place to unwind from a few busy days sightseeing and shopping in Barcelona. Parc del Laberint d'Horta is about an hour bus ride out of Barcelona, so I recommend taking a picnic (see note below) and spending the afternoon here. It will also give you enough time to explore the beautiful manicured gardens, bush, hidden walkways, watch the cute turtles in the ponds, admire the waterfall and of course, complete the maze! It reminded me so much of film The Secret Garden. And the best part was that there were very few people there on the day we visited. It truly is Barcelona's best kept secret, in my opinion! Note: You can only picnic outside the gardens, but there are a few picnic benches. There is also a small entrance fee of under 3 euros to get into the park.

Yelp
Located just a few miles outside Barcelona the Parque del Laberinto de Horta should figure into the schedule of any visitor looking to spend a few days outdoors, a mere 2.23Euro admission fee giving guests full access to the grounds containing many sculptures, a moat and tons of foliage including a fairly complex hedge maze that will see persons of all ages reach mostly dead ends before finally getting to the finish.
google avatar

Yelp
Quirky off-the-beaten-path option if you want to get away from the crowds for an hour or two. The park is quite charming with a bunch of old buildings, ponds and lots of shady pathways. The maze is fun and offered our kids 20-30 minutes of running around. Might be more/longer fun for younger kids. Could also be a nice picnic option, though we didn't do this. Downside is that it's pretty far from town and not a place I would imagine staying very long... so just know what you are getting into.
google avatar

Jasper H.

Yelp
If you want a nice relaxing place to stroll and take pictures, this is the place to go. The name of this park speaks a lot for itself. The Labyrinth maze is fun but surprisingly frustrating when you hit a dead end. Definitely recommend going with a friends so they can take pictures of you trying to find your way out of the maze. There's a nice stream to watch ducks, koi fish, and turtles swim around. I'm not sure how it usually is, but the park was not crowded at all when I went. So you won't be bumping into crowds of people and worrying about pickpockets. Note: There is an entrance fee of 2.23 euros.
google avatar

Lee H.

Yelp
This park is not only beautiful and off the beaten path from the regular tourist stops, it also features a labyrinth. If you've never experienced being lost amongst a maze of bushes, you must check it out. To me, this park felt like *real* Barcelona. Lots of families having picnics and birthday parties, tons of kids running through and getting lost in the labyrinth, young couples on a romantic stroll through the grounds. We spent a few hours roaming around the park, got terribly lost in the labyrinth and took in the beauty that this park has to offer. If you're a tourist, a visit to this park will require a scooter or rental car. It's well worth the trip.
google avatar

Andy S.

Yelp
This should not be included in your 1-3 day itinerary in Barcelona, but if you are here for an extended period of time, you should stop by for a unique experience. The gardens and labyrinth provide a nice escape from the hustle and bustle and tourist side of Barcelona. Con: A bit of a subway ride to reach Tip: Exit subway and walk down to street. Take a left and walk a few blocks. It will be on your left hand side up the hill a bit. There are no clear signs!
google avatar

Megan N.

Yelp
We took Metro L3 from Las Ramblas and got off at Mundet Station. From there it was a 5 min walk to the bottom of a hill that leads to the parc. We passed by a cute little park that had writing symbols in concrete and headed to top of the hill. If you want to get a good cardio go to the top of the park. The labyrinth was absolutely a unique experience for me, I had never seen a park like that before. I could see the city is investing in the park and some constructions were going on. The Labyrinth itself is not open to the public. On our way back we took a pick in the manicured garden of Placa de Lleons which was absolutely stunning!

Yelp
K. So I'm 40 now. And while I still love a good party and can give any 20 year old a run for her money, I seek quiet and solitude from time to time. Barcelona is a city abuzz and there are many areas that are very crowded and busy. Parc del Laberint d'Horta is a welcome oasis from all of the business on La Rambla, Barri Gottic, and Barceloneta. I swear there couldn't have been 20 other people in the park, which itself is tranquil and intensely beautiful with waterfalls, still pools, incredibly manicured gardens and of course-- The Labyrinth. To be honest, I hated the labyrinth, but that's due to my fear of enclosed spaces. That doesn't mean that you should feel the same way. It's really quite neat for those who don't panic when they hit a dead end. The only negative is that you can't picnic inside the park. I love me a picnic and we searched for a place to buy provisions for quite some time only to be told that we had to eat in the designated area which, at that time happened to be populated with many children. Ew. Anyway, this place is prettier than many of the other tourist parks in Barcelona. Entrance is under 3 Euro each.

anna c.

Yelp
Great place! Not too crowded and cool, but it is a little fat away from the center of Bcn.
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
Wonderful park for all intents and purposes. First of all, this is a really relaxing place where you never have to worry about their being too many tourists, always nice. It is really cheap, the tickets cost less than 10 euros if I remember well. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. The labyrinth is really fun, and the view from above the labyrinth is really nice. There are all sorts of little paths to take off in different directions where you'll find turtle ponds, and fountains, and just nice walks. Also can be a really intimate place, since it has a really romantic (not in a romance way) vibe. In terms of how to get here, it's not the simplest thing in the world but it's not hard. There's a metro stop nearby. Totally worth 5 stars! Great place!
google avatar

Mini V.

Yelp
It was fun going there and figuring out the maze! Very close to the metro stop. Too bad it started thundering and raining out of nowhere. I really liked it though.

Xiao L.

Yelp
Amazing park, majestic and whimsical. It wasn't really crowded when we went, a Friday afternoon. A little run down but charming and fun to explore.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Didn't get to explore all of the Parque because of the time and weather, but what we saw was great. The park was very clean and scenic. The maze was challenging but fun. I would definitely come back to explore the rest of the Parque. I'm not sure if there's and admission fee? We just walked into the park. =P

Yelp
After four days of battling the tourist crowds of Barcelona, I was in desperate need of some peace and quiet so I took the metro up to the gardens. This picturesque, formal garden has many wonderful paths and nooks to explore. Formal gardens, grottos, bridges, gazebos, mythological statues, waterfalls and winding paths reward the traveler who is willing to explore further afield. The labyrinth at the center is gorgeous and well maintained. This place is perfect for a picnic lunch away from the crowds. Lovely.

Mark F.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful. It has a variety of themed gardens, as well as a surprisingly challenging maze. Great to go at any time. Easily accessible via a short walk from the subway station. Well worth the ~2 eur entrance fee.
