Montreal’s Best Restaurants for Gluten-Free Eaters | Eater Montreal

"Quaint bakery and La Fontaine Park neighbour Parc Sans Gluten is a hidden gem for lovers of wheatless bread and sweets in the Plateau, with a range of largely French-inspired treats that are gluten-free in name but rarely in taste. Fill your breakfast table with Parc San Gluten’s eclairs, tarts, quiche,s and viennoiseries, and, of course, lots of bread." - Holly Tousignant

Hands down the best gluten free croissant I’ve ever had! We had the chocolate croissant and potato/spinach empanada which were both amazing! Almost everything here is gluten and dairy free but you’d never know. This place is a hidden gem. A must go for anyone gluten or dairy free.

Google
The best gluten-free croissants! Super flaky and buttery. My partner has Celic’s and we came to Parc sans Gluten every morning for breakfast while we were in Montréal. As someone who can have gluten, I thought their croissants, danishes, and empanadas were just as good as non-gluten free ones. Highly recommend!

Google
We had 5 different pastries here and they were all amazing! I loved the outdoor seating too, it was beautiful and right across from the park. The owner was very nice. We will be returning!

Google
A gluten free and dairy free dream come true! I'm so glad that I stopped here during my second last day in Montreal. The selection was amazing and it was so good to know that I didn't have to worry about gluten or dairy. The croissants were absolutely delicious! I got a few treats for the trip home and enjoyed all of them. Amazing, friendly and helpful customer service were the icing on the cake 🍰! Thanks!

Google
This is not the fanciest gluten-free bakery in the area. What it does do is croissants very well with different fillings. It is definitely worth your visit. It’s less expensive than the other bakeries. What you find here are amazing croissant, empanadas., and wraps. I would definitely come here again.

Google
I’m not even gluten free and these are some of the greatest baked goods I’ve had in my life. Highly recommend the chocopatine and the fruit danish if they have any left when you go.

I was so excited to discover this bakery on our trip to Montreal. I haven't had a good pastry since going gluten free. We tried the chicken and spinach empanadas, chocolate and plain croissants, and the multi grain bread. They were amazing! I was the only gluten free person in our group and everyone enjoyed the treats. We wouldn't have known they were gluten free. I highly recommend this patisserie!

Google
Incredible gluten-free pastries - I cried being able to eat a great croissant - and really warm customer service. Cannot recommend enough for the food and people. The empanadas are a must!

Yelp
WOW, run don't walk to this incredible bakery. My family who is celiac have been going on about how awesome this place is and I finally satisfied my curiosity today. I am not celiac but this is Hands down the best pastry I ever had. Well done!

Yelp
All of the pastries that I bought, including almond croissants and chocolatines had an overwhelming smell of eggs that was disgusting. The service was also borderline rude. I would never recommend their pastries to anyone.

Yelp
If you are gluten free then this is a must visit when you are in Montreal! Fresh, fresh croissants, bread, tarts and wraps. There are a few tables and chairs if you are like us and wanted to immediately enjoy. Everything is soooo FRESH!! FYI- they don't take credit cards- cash only!

Yelp
There are so many GF options in Montreal. I really thought this would be another amazing spot but, alas, it's a bit depressing: the chicken wrap was premade and fell apart. the tart looked pretty but had no taste and had the gravelly feeling of early days GF baking. We went in the strength of the most recent rave reviews but it's like they reviewed a different store! The bread loaves were the ugliest I've ever seen. I took a photo so I could show the ugly loaves to others. The options felt limited and the entire shop and owner were depressing. No charm. It seemed like a business about to close down, to be honest.

Yelp
Twice I have eaten here, twice I got sick. The bread was still raw on the inside. The space is not welcoming and the staff were pushy. Also dont be fooled by the pictures here. It is just a bunch of breads, a couple of sandwiches, and some frozen stuff

Yelp
Stopped in here on a whim. We purchased an eclair, a couple croissants, some espressos. The total came to $25. My sister in law gave the guy $40 because that is all we had. He gave us back $10 in change and scammed us out of our $15 change we should have received back because he didn't have enough change. For a cash only business, that is shady. This business needs to carry more change. The gluten free products were delightful though. It is too bad they were so good.

Yelp
Fantastic gluten free baked goods! The croissants and eclairs were phenomenal and remarkably fluffy for gluten-free baked goods. I have visited Parc Sans Gluten twice now and found that the baked goods taste better in the morning (by the afternoon they can be stale). I've been gluten-free for 10+ years now and these were by far the closest to what I remember glutenous baked goods tasting like!

Yelp
Also try the bread it's like none other gluten free bread you'll ever have in your entire life. But you have to eat it freshly made.

Yelp
Gluten-free bakery right across from the park. Lots of choices, friendly service, despite my American lack of French. Only tried the cherry tart & seeded bread (frozen, to take home), but so good! Cash only, FYI.

Monica G.

Yelp
I just finished the best croissant I have had in about 14 years since being diagnosed with celiac disease. It was so buttery and flakey...I can't believe that it was actually gluten free. Gluten free bakers in Paris need to come here for a master class in gluten free baking. Well done!

Meg A.

Yelp
The food tasted like freezer. I had a croissant and what I thought was a chocolate mousse tart. The croissant was gritty and old. The tart turned out to be a rock hard crust with a dry cake-like filling and a very thin layer of chocolate icing. Extremely disappointing after reading the positive reviews. I can't eat gluten and have to minimize sugar, so desserts are a rare treat for me. I feel tricked by the presentation and the price. I would not recommend this place unless you're in a hurry and don't care about flavor or texture.

Yelp
Best gluten-free croissants in the entire world. How is it possible to make such a light and layered and scrumptious croissant that is gluten-free!? I've been gluten-free for 10+ years and have longed to eat a croissant. This is off the chain! Highly, highly, highly recommend. P.S. I told my husband not to talk to me while I ate it so as not to distract me from the pure delight of this delicious treat.

Yelp
This bakery brought me pure joy. Anyone with Celiac knows that typical gluten free baked goods are either overly greasy, excessively sweet or so crumbly and dry that you choke while trying to eat. But somehow the chefs at Parc Sans Gluten have mastered the ability to make perfect croissants, eclairs and danishes. So good even my gluten eating boyfriend was impressed! I've lived in NYC for over 10 years with Celiac, and nothing has come close in taste and texture. The prices were also very reasonable. I definitely recommend for anyone with a gluten allergy!

Yelp
I've been gluten free since 1999 and I feel like I've been waiting for a place like this all my life. The pastries are delicious!!! My husband, who is not gluten free and usually makes comments like "tastes a lot like sand" -- was shocked and agreed that it was pretty much the same as a real croissant and delicious!

Yelp
It's sooo good!!! It's just next to Parc Lafontaine! The guys are really sweet! Apparently in the summer they have tons of things!

Holly G.

Yelp
These are the best gluten free desserts I have ever had -- I got a lemon tart, palmiers, and a croissant. It takes true expertise to get gluten free right, and the owner (who is celiac himself) has truly figured it out! If I am ever visiting Montreal from the USA again I will be back :)

Yelp
Second all the 5-stars! Ate a custard coffee cake-type thing and it was beyond. Also tried the chocolate croissant which was amazingly flaky and well-ratioed. Super-nice guy there to help you out, and right across the street from the park which is the perfect place to enjoy your perfect pastry! The place is a true find, go there.
